WARRI — THE Olu of Warri Kingdom, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse II, (CON), Wednesday assured the Itsekiri nation that no part of the kingdom would be ceded to anybody, no matter the degree of violence visited on his people and communities.

He also charged the people to always remember who they were and be good ambassadors at all times while making good contributions to the improvement of their heritage and fortunes.

The royal father gave the assurance and admonitions in an address to the Itsekiri nation as part of activities marking his Silver Jubilee coronation anniversary at Ode-Itsekir (Big-Warri), yesterday.

Ogiame Atuwatse II, who said his 25 years on the throne had witnessed ups and down, however, thanked the Almighty God for seeing him through the most turbulent years of his reign.

He said: “It is right and fitting for us to give thanks to God as we appreciate all that He has given us and has done for us, all these years. In spite of the strong wind of opposition which we did not initiate, God has preserved us and has kept us going. We give thanks to Him.

“Although we had a lot of wicked acts of aggression and oppression directed against us, we are still standing, not with our heads bowed in shame and defeat, and loss of hope and credibility, but with the confidence that God is with us, and God being for us, no one can be against us and defeat us.

“The grip of occultic and fetish forces has been loosed from Iwereland by the power of God.”

He made reference to his installation of Dr. Mark O. Erumi as the current Chaplain of Warri Kingdom and expressed the hope that the kingdom would look forward to greater things from the Almighty God.

Concluding his address, His Majesty said: “There is also the need and challenge to preserve our land and use same for the benefit of our people.

“By the grace of God, no part of our land shall be ceded to other people, no matter how we may be attacked. We shall keep developing and preserving what God has given to us, which our forefathers passed on to us. By the grace of God, we shall pass the same to our upcoming generations.”

He charged the Itsekiri never to forget who they were and be good ambassadors and contributors to the improvement of their heritage and fortunes.

So where is the Itsekiri land? From what I can see the warri town is shared between three tribes, warri south west has som many Ijaw towns including Tompolos gbamaturu clans....the entire stretch of the three warri lgas has major components of Ijaw and Itsekiri cris crossing each other, how do you carve out the itsekiri land? You people should not kill me with laughter.

Everyone wants to feel important. Where was this "His Majesty" for the last 25 years that even IBB was slicing and dicing funds with his military wing commander state administrators, and what is his response to IBORI that is rightfully sitting in a British jail for stealing money belonging to and covering his little dinky community.

If Nigeria likes, they can cede Itsekiriland to Cameroon and nothin go happon.

Wanted to ask but you know Nigerians as usual would have made it tribal. At least you are Urhobo. This was the cause of the long crisis that devastated Warri. The Olu is the Olu of Itsekiri people and not that of the 3 Warri LGAs.

I found it very gratifying knowing the Olu has drawn a very thick line between Spiritism, fetishness and Culture. Sad really that some are yet to make this distinction.

The title doesn't expand the kingdom, the Warri heartland belongs to the Itsekiris so they arrogated the name for themselves. Why didn't the Urhobos in Okere Urhobo choose to name their king after Warri also?

warri is itshe-land, whether na olu of warri or olu of itshekiri, all join, na the same thing. if you people want to fight about it, go and ask the ijaw what they cried back in 2001. a word is enough for the wise.

The Itshekri are the bonafide Owners of Warri, Warri itself is an Itshekri Name. When the time comes, every other tribe will be send packing.

Actually, Igbo warriors assisted Nana of Itsekiri against Britain and helped him escape being captured but he was later turned in by the people he called brothers.

How else can you characterize a community where so many things are going wrong, and yet where can be found some of the brightest (if not the brightest) people in the world?

Warri is an ancient game, transported in the belly of slave ships from the land of Owerri in Nigeria to the western lands beyond the sea – and transplanted into the fertile soil of, above everywhere else, Antigua & Barbuda. It is a game of numbers, of calculation, of strategy, of tactics, of foresight. Warri demands a swift command of mathematical calculations, the ability to instantly comprehend the implications of the opponent’s every numerical maneuver. It is a game of observation, of concentration, demanding computer-like speed and accuracy combined with strategic and tactical finesse.
