If you would like to help, please feel free to let me know. Right now the project is in Analysis and Design and that is taking up the bulk of time as it entails typing up requirement for each of the proposed modules and creating design plans for each. We hope to start actual development work soon but no work until at least one BRD is actually approved and ready to go.

Hi team,

We really need more people involved in the research phase please. I understand that have an idea of what exactly it entails but for those who are trying to get ahead this is a great idea to actually get experience for your resume. Please email me if you are able as we need people who can take some time to go out in the field to gathe information from actors and participants in theĀ  area in which you live.

Basically, the more hands we have onboard at this state, the faster it will be for us all to conclude on this and move on to the next stage.

Hey, this is my first post here. There's a cool business opportunity I got to know of. A great online magazine is up for sale. I say it's great, because you can read alot of great stories. You can register to get nice summaries in your email box. If you feel you can turn around the business, then consider buying up the magazine. Alot of millions can be yours. Here's the link:

Hi everyone,

Been a 'passive' but very engaged member of nairaland for a while, but this noble cause has spurred me to sign up. I'm interested in being part of the team & I have about 2 years programming experience with a useful networking background. Done a little on Portal Administration for schools so I guess I should be part of this team.

Please feel free to include me. I can be reached via codeweavernaija@gmail.com

i really appreciate your urgency Kobojunkie, but if your need is a highly robust and scalable relational database system, then try Microsoft Office Access 2007. sorry to be naive now, but i really think that you should consider it (Access) as a solution to your problem.
i have considerable hands-on experience with Access (8 years) and i must say that i experienced a great deal of productivity increase in the migration of my former developed databases from the 2000-2003 File format to the 2007 file fromat. The search bar (an ActiveX data object is an added boost). i really believe that for mid-size recordsets (not exceeding 100,000 records per table), that you should use Access.
i just developed a database system using access 2007 for a specialist hospital and i must say that it is functional, stable and efficient. i think that your main concern should be your table design and primary keys development and setting. do give it a try,
for applicatios of your specification, i believe that the tables would use three primary key orientations. one for the student registration number(for the Registrar's Network/Security/Dean of Students Affairs), another for the Surname (for the Faculties/Senate Networks), and a dual primary key table with the Student Registration Number as the primary key (Records and Statistics Unit).
do try Access 2007.

Hi Kobojunkie,

Haven't heard from you about joining the team. Research, Analysis & Design are some of my strongest software development points. Anybody can code but 'coding' is NOT the hallmark of a successful software project! Email me the 'Project Team' details via codeweavernaija@gmail.com

Oh gosh!! that is what i needed to read. You are absolutely right on that one. over 60% of Software projects fail due to lack of enough research and Analysis done. And I really appreciate it that you are willing to join the research and analysis team. Right now, as we do not have enough hands on deck in that area, it has been really slow as gathering information on Nigerian schools from outside of Nigeria is really slow process. I will try to email you information on what I have been working on and what we still have to get done as soon as I can please, Thanks @Codeweaver

hmmm, nice initiative, im interested, ma area is .NET(vb {asp.net}and C#), i thot i read someone considering access for a relational database, i dont think access is a good idea, for a project like this, no,

reasons,
did u eva check out the specification of access
- only 2GB of space
- only 250 max connections
- and besides u are gonna be deploying in a large communtiy
- i dont think its a good idea

for me i dont think access is to be considered,
why dont u guys consider something like "SQL server 2005" and ORACLE, i think i like thier concepts, i dont knw if anyone understands what im talking about,

ma email is a4extra@gmail.com(preferably for email)
- a4extra@yahoo.com(chat purposes)

hope to join ur team, u got a project management website lemme knw??

I am a C#.Net programmer that works with Visual Studio/Visual Studio.Net very well.
I thought i should be part of the team to make the project a reality because i've developed a software pertaining school management system, so i thought it would be a very good idea for me to join.

Hi Team,

Sorry for the long break there. Been really busy with work. I have spent some time researching and looking for tools that could help ease the development process for us.

I was able to find a tool that we could use for this project. Basically, it is a whole school software, that I believe is currently being used in some schools around the world today. The tool seems to have basically all we need. We just need to work on making it more compatible with the school needs in Nigeria and essentially adding features that may have been ommitted. The only issue is that the whole is written in Python and since I assume Python is not really a popular language in Nigeria, I basically would like to suggest that we work on the following

1) Translating the code from Python to .NET
languages so we can better use them with available infrastructure

2) Work on reproduing the functionalities in .NET, for those who are not willing to learn python for this.

Please post suggestions on what you think. Thanks.

Hi Team,

Earlier in the week I sent out access information for the development project for all team members. Please access your accounts and modify your profiles. While you are at it, do check out the files that we will be working with in the School Tool directory.

If you are ready to start working on it, do go ahead and post your updates back so others can access them. Also be sure to tag files so each person knows who is working on what.

If you have any questions, feel free to email or IM.

Dude how is this project going. I know i expressed some reservations about doing this kind of stuff with people based in nigeria
Re: .NET C#/VB.NET Project in the Pipeline for Programmers who may be interested by Kobojunkie: 3:54pm On May 14, 2009
The work is coming along real slow. Time limitations and limited number of hands. At this time, I have had to resort to getting non-Nigerians involved so as to get some work done. Turns out not all those who signed up where even ready to do the work required, however I am working currently with at least one person in Nigeria to see how we move this forward.

have been researching other solutions however. Also working on connecting with the right resources down in Nigeria to help raise funds for this.

Thats what happens when u try to involve people living in Nigeria. They are usually just not motivated to do things like this except u dangle some cash in their face

This is why Nigeria is underdeveloped, the work ethic is too low! The best software in the world was created for FREE! They must realize that Open source software, although its developed for free is rewarding skill wise and most importantly to them FINANCIALLY!. Its just that initially you will not get paid. Anybody up for creating a site to promote Open source software in Nigeria?
