LOL.....guy u funny ooo. As for me ooo. It's not by force to work in Lagos State. The senior doctors on level 14 and above will assist the new ones. Atleast, most of them were trained in naija and earned the same degree. Recruitment still ongoing and applications keep pouring in. I wish everyone goodluck in their career. Most important, Fashola has still got the love of the populace as always. Eko oni baje!

It will be conditional on being employed by the state. If it's not free it must be subsidized. If they are no longer working they cannot live in the houses. Normal tenancy rules will not apply. i'm guessing sha- that only makes sense. The houses technically doesnt belong to them, it belongs to the state.

It doesn't belong to them. But you can't kick people out of their homes on short notice.

They should be forced to pay NORMAL RENT upon being fired. But they should still be given 6 months notice.

Imagine, some of these doctors will have families. Children in school. You cannot uproot a family just like that.

Nupeng goes on strike, holds the nation to ransom, people lose their lives, no one complains... Even nlc went on strike, it turned to occupy Nigeria. Suddenly doctors are asking for their due and Lagos state health system's about to go down...people are rejoicing. Lesson-don't swaet for nigerians

200k is not too much for a new doctor working in a teaching hospital.....And one doctor said only 5 percent of them get quarters...Hw much is 200k in lagos sef... Dnt forget that doctors av such a tight schedule that their hospital is their life.

Well i'm no lawyer, but if the home is being subject to your employment then I understand if the government is at no obligation to make provision for that.

It's probably only doctors with families that have housing, we will see anyways. Haven't lived in subsidized housing esp in Nigeria so I'm also clueless to how it works. But it makes perfect sense to me for the doctors to be stripped of all benefits especially since they were fired for misconduct.

I still maintain that doctors work hard and 200k is not too much...Av u eva lived with a doctor working in a teaching hospital b4? It is when they're younger that they work hardest sef.... The ones in the teaching hospitals av such an heavy schedule that me I pity them. They sleep in the hospital in the night sef....They sleep only few hours... They spend their lives basically around the hospital...And they rush to eat.... They enter sometimes 3 a.m in the night. Out like 8a.m in the morning again. Monday to sunday. And they still av exams they do and books they read. I swear me I cnt do such wahala for less than 200k with accommodation around the hospital. PERIOD.

The level of foolishness and ignorance here on NL is becoming alarming. Doctors will beg? Are you in your right senses? A heart surgeon will beg you? You have no clue and are as d.u.mb as Fashola. Many of these are specialist doctors who are being sought after everywhere. All they need to do is relocate. Tanzania, Angola, Ghana, Senegal, Gambia, Mideast, there are opportunities for them everywhere. You are a real dunce to think they are the loosers. Lagos state is the biggest looser here because the people you employed are all neophytes that cant run the hospitals. This is a disaster to Lagos health care and will set Lagos back for at least 20 years!

you are the one spitting rubbish by attacking peoples opinion.. It shows you are the ignorance one because the doctors are not in their right sense to strike for whatever reason if need for salary increasing they can easily pass it on without having to endanger the citizens life by embarking on strike which shows Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria.. If you have been to other developed countries you will understand what you typed here is total rubbish and you shouldn't be taken serious.

Well, Doctors are not the only health professionals who stand in front of the cadaver!

So I understand your point.

If free housing is one of the perks of your job, if you are fired or go on strike, presumably you shouldn't be able to get this benefit any more. (This is why imo employers shouldn't offer perks like this. Just pay your workers a higher salary in lieu of free housing, and let them find their own accomodations.)

So one way to handle this is to kick them out of their house immediately.

But an easier, more humane way is just to make them pay rent until their 6 months is up.
Re: Lagos Issues Quit Notice To Sacked Doctors. by ektbear: 5:18pm On May 11, 2012
Employers offering free housing just makes things messier, imo.

Harder to fire employees, harder for employees to quit and find a new job.

Lose-lose situation.

As an employee, I'd prefer the cash (assuming I'd get equal value).

As an employer, I'd prefer paying cash too.

The scenario which is most likely to unfold over the next few days - or weeks - is that the sacked Doctors will all be recalled to their old jobs . . . that’s if Governor Fashola is as smart as people on hear make him out to be.

If this wasn’t so life threatening (pun intended), I would have been laughing out loud at this moment! The reality on ground however, is that no matter how much we’d want to disparage the Doctors, NO state in Nigeria can afford to sack its Doctors, not when among those sacked are 2 US-trained brain surgeons, in a country where there are no more than 5! I suspect that amongst those sacked would also be many experienced Surgeons, Paediatricians, O&G specialists . . . and yes, even Psychiatrists! .

The cost of this misadventure is difficult to quantify but . . . let me state with a lot of confidence and possibly a bit of arrogance . . . I am sure that the costs will far outweigh any ‘superficial’ political short-term gains that our esteemed Governor Fashola thinks that he is making. I say ‘political’ because this decision is clearly not well thought through – there is no gain that can be made from sacking Doctors in a country where there is only 1 Doctor to every 4000 patients . . . especially when the only thing the Doctors are asking for is for the government to fulfil its part of an agreement!

What some supporters of this decision seem not to immediately realise is that those, employed to ‘replace’ the sacked Doctors are not going to be of the same level of experience or competence - a Consultant who is not already in government employment would most likely not be applying for these vacant posts, because the government will NOT be able to pay him even half of what he is used to earning! The gullible public should not be hoodwinked by the media into thinking that the government is doing the right thing. It isn’t . . .

The right thing to do is NOT to renege on what has already been agreed on. The right thing for the government to do is to go into a negotiation mode, if it thinks that it cannot fulfil its part of the agreement . . .

You see, in spite of whatever hypocrite’s oath that Doctors are supposed to have made at the point of graduation, which some erroneously misconstrue as a pledge to a life of poverty, Doctors are actually flesh and blood human beings. And like all flesh and blood humans . . . who are intelligent . . . they too have the inner dialogue that some also refer to as a conscience, so will submit to reason when it is presented to them without any threats! And because they are humans, they too need to eat, pay rent and phuck like every one else . . . and none of these things are gratis . . .

To cut a long story short, if the sacked Doctors are not recalled to their old jobs then the Health sector in Lagos is going to be more phucked than it already is.

And in case I missed the most important point of this my Friday afternoon drivel, the sacked Doctors are not the ones who are going to come out of this whole drama worse off . . .

So pathethic how people reason in my Naija. How on earth would people be glad that experts in the Health Sector are relieved of their duties because they asked for their right Do you think the replacements has enough experience as those that were laid off? Was the selection process on merit? If Fashola agreed to pay them on a particular scale, why on earth is he reneging on earlier agreements? The future of Nigeria still seems very very bleak.
Re: Lagos Issues Quit Notice To Sacked Doctors. by tallfact: 6:06pm On May 11, 2012
In my opinion this will only introduce checks and balances in the face-off between the doctors and the lagos state govt. Yes the doctors have every right to ask the govt to fulfil its promises base on the signed agreement but they should remember that politicians are more powerful, can do and undo with impunity. The doctors should remember that theorems are differ from practical when it come to relating with people. If am in lagos state shoe today, I will take the same decision because I need to let you know that I can appeal to the public supports knowing that this affect them most not even when I had completed 80% of the agreement which made doctors in lagos far better than the rest in the country. Mind you there are other professions that are not enjoying half of what you enjoy today.

THIS WILL ONLY CREATE FEAR IN SOME OF THE DOCTORS AND BRING DOWN THEIR RAISED SHOULDERS.

Good riddance to bad doctors
How could someone be so heartless
let them vacate the apartment and for everyone thinking what Fashola did was wrong should go take a dive because if someone close to you died doing their strike then you all would know they are evil.

Sack them all and give young ones the opportunity besides they are overfed.

Imagine they even live in a free house mtcheewwwwwwwwwww

Never knew Fasholq is such a Dummy.where are the oppoistion parties? They have all gone to bed.I observed so many post supportn fasholq's action.Am very sure most of them are related to the thieving Action Congress politicians.where is Lai Mohammed,Bakare, occupy Nigeria, who where against FEG?Can't they now also fight out against injustice and wicked Government decisions? Most of the posterd here sounds like bunch of Action Congress Thugs who have never been to school. How much were the Doctors asking for?can it be compared to the billions wasted to celebrate Tinuubu's birthday? The same Action Congress made so much noise when Salami was ssuspended, made so much noise wen Tinubu was docked for corruption,I can go on and on mentioning so many illegalities. Is the same Fashola you want as president or Vice president in 2015?
Re: Lagos Issues Quit Notice To Sacked Doctors. by kinguwem: 6:31pm On May 11, 2012
Lagosians open your eyes. There are rumours that Fashola has flown his ill father abroad for medical treatment at the expense of LASG. Mean while he has refused to pay doctors a living wage at home. The masses are now dependent on quacks, herbalists and spiritualists for their health care. The haste to evict sacked doctors from their quarters proves the lawlessness of the LASG. I think there is a political motive behind the actions of the LASG. Lagosians think.

Please the affected doctors should relocate, there are countries out there even within Africa that would appreciate you plus you'd work in very standard and up to date facilities.
Barbados,T&T,U.K,U.S,Australia,U.A.E, just to mention a few.Just give yourself at most a year to pass the professional exams then move with your whole family. The working hours are heavy sometimes but you are paid for it and exactly on time. There's a pension scheme and many other benefits. It's never too late, use this time to restrategise jare.

Lagos state government and ACN doesn't do things in line with democrase they preach most cases. If GEJ happens to be in their shoes, by now there would have been all kinds of rubbish from them to him. But see what they're doing now
Their internal politics is too poor. So, what do we expect
How can you evict someone who pays for the quarters within 24hrs? What kind of barbaric, inconsiderate government is that
You need to see how this anti-people government demolished thousands of houses at ISHEFUN AYOBO 3years ago without proper negotiation and consideration. A lot of people died, some went down and never recovered up till now.
They generate over 18Bn internally generated revenue monthly, spend less than 6Bn on infratructrusture with their quack contractors and we're happy that Fashola is working.
What a heartless, shameless, useless government is this sef?
