To be honest, many are not taken in by the histrionics of an incompetent and highly corrupt Government seeking to move attention away from how it is drowning in a a local and International Sea of criticism.

Buhari, Tinubu, El Rufai and others just provide this worthless Government, full of bellicose and thieving empty barrels, the chance to distract attention from the monumental misrule of the nation they are supervising.

Like we keep saying, GEJ and his fans, including those on NL, are the most guilty of the hypocrisy, sectionalism and ethnic jingoism they accuse others of. It is condemnable that the pro-GEJ voices here on NL are always ominously silent when SS sabre-rattlers launch their divisive and ugly tirade drenched in ethnic jingoism.

Why no noise, from GEJ and Abati the 'chatterbox', or Mr.President's fans on Nl, when Dokubo-Asari, Edwin Clarke et al were foaming rabidly at the mouth all over the place?

Jonathan is a sectional ruler

I totally share Mr. Onabule’s position.

I would’ve added that the main reason why Jonathan employed Ruben Abati as Presidential Media Advisor was because Abati has a pathetic and morbid fear (more appropriately, hatred) for Buhari and what the latter stands for. Mr. Abati, more than any other person, including journalists, held Buhari SOLELY responsible for the 2011 post election riots in parts of Northern Nigeria and imputed that the ONLY reason there were riots was because a Southern Christian “won” the election against a Northern Muslim. The riots may have taken place in the North but the rioters were both Muslim and Christian and the government knew that. If Jonathan were a truly national leader he would’ve distanced himself from this kind of divisive and self-serving analysis. What did he do instead? He rewarded Abati with an appointment as media advisor

This year alone, Edwin Clark, Jonathan’s self-styled Godfather, has threatened the country with dismemberment three times in his agitation for a Sovereign National Conference, another scarcely veiled euphemism for the dismemberment of Nigeria. The first time was at a government-sponsored conference at Sheraton Hotel in Lagos. Why would anyone who’s seeking dialogue threaten the nation with dismemberment if the dialogue does not take place? More importantly, why would our national government be associated with such a person or conference? All Jonathan needed to do, if he were the national leader he pretends to be, for these inciting and divisive statements from Edwin Clark to stop was to tell the old man to stop. Did he do that? Instead, Edwin Clark is not only a constant visitor at the Villa, he has recently been awarded Vice President Namadi Sambo’s official guest house under the “monetization” policy of the Federal Government and Sambo’s has since moved out. So, now who is a sectional leader?

Late last year, the Niger Delta militant-terrorist, Asari Dokubo, signed a statement which was carried in Nigeria’s major national dailies in which he and others threatened to break up Nigeria if Jonathan was not allowed a second term in 2015. Exactly two days earlier, I met Asari Dokubo in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation where he was an august visitor. Exactly two days after his threatening statement, he was announced by the Federal Government as a member of its delegation to Hajj in Saudi Arabia under the chairmanship of Sultan Saad Abubakar. Is this a government headed by a national, non violent leader?

I’m not a member of the CPC and I’m not one of Buahri’s political associates but if the 2015 election is rigged, whether or not Buhari is a candidate, I will personally take to the streets and, if necessary, attack those who participate in rigging it. This wouldn’t have been necessary if the judiciary is willing to listen to any petition against rigged elections and do justice to it. But with the manner in which Justice Ayo Salami was removed as President of the Court of Appeal in the middle of the 2011 presidential election petition by the NJC and summarily approved by Jonathan, and the shameless decision to reinstate him after the hatchet job has been done, and Jonathan’s dithering in approving the reinstatement, I have totally lost confidence in the Nigerian judiciary and the President and am ready to do the needful to assert my adult suffrage whatever that may entail.

We are not just watching. Next time we’re going to be acting…

BUHARI’S GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES “WAR AGAINST INDISCIPLINE”

Nigeria's military government is stepping-up its campaign against corruption, mismanagement and indiscipline at all levels in Nigeria society.

Preliminary hearings into corruption and abuse of office against former politicians and civil administrators have already begun and on March 21 the government launched its war against indiscipline.

One of the first areas under attack is Illegal Street trading in the capital Lagos. The military government of Major-General Buhari has promulgated a decree forbidding the street trading, a major source of income for many thousands of Lagos people. Police have already begun arresting street vendors and confiscating their wares.

The campaign is also designed to foster greater personal and social discipline with Nigerians being urged to queue for buses in an orderly fashion. The crackdown on indiscipline was announced by Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon, a member of the Nigerian Supreme Military Council.

BRIGADIER TUNDE IDIAGBON: "I want you to bear in mind the need to emphasise self-discipline and leadership by good example.
Begin by drawing public attention to little but important everyday manifestations of indiscipline such as rushing into buses, driving on the wrong side of the road, littering the streets, parks and dwelling compounds, cheating, taking undue advantage of scarcity to inflate prices for quick monetary gains, constituting ourselves into public nuisances, walking without commitment and devoting little or no time to the upbringing of our children.

Up to this moment there has been no formal declaration of war against indiscipline, it is my pleasure therefore to declare today a launching day for the war against indiscipline."

The Buhari administration identified indiscipline as the bane of the nation's ills and therefore decided to fight it in all its ramifications. Hence the pre-occupation of the regime was the launching of the different phases of the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) which has become a household word in may Nigerian homes. There were five phases of WAI, namely:-

a. Queuing (March 20, 1984)

b. Work Ethics (May 1, 1984)

c. Nationalism and Patriotism (August 21, 1984)

d. Anti-Corruption and Economic Sabotage (May 14, 1985)

e. Environmental Sanitation (July 29, 1985).

Buharinomics - General Buhari’s economic program marshaled out to salvage the nation in 1984

http://www.elombah.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5720:is-general-buhari-the-problem-with-nigeria&catid=36:pointblank&Itemid=83

Buharinomics was General Buhari’s economic program marshaled out to salvage the nation in 1984. He summarized the objective of his economic policy (as articulated in the 1984 budget) as follows: "To arrest the decline in the economy, to put the economy on a proper course of recovery and solvency, and to chart a future course for economic stability and prosperity" (West Africa, May 14, 1984). He had previously done similarly, in March while receiving the visiting Sudanese President, Gaafar Nimeiri. Upon his inquiring of what the new military government had in mind for the nation it then ruled, Buhari said to him: "The priority [of his administration] is for economic recovery, providing employment opportunities, improving people's living conditions, consolidating internal security and ensuring foreign respect" (Africa Now, March 1984). In a nutshell, Buharinomics set out to arrest the decline in the economy and refocus it towards recovery.

Buharinomics was to wean the nation off consumerism and profligacy, while channeling it towards frugality and productivity. To accomplish this, the government was to cut down on its expenditure, engage in more efficient restricting and controlling of foreign exchange outflow, undertake the revival of the country's productive capacity (concentration was on agriculture), and broaden government's revenue base.

The first test of Buharinomics was implemented to revive the comatose banking industry and arrest local currency hoarding. In April 1984, the government ordered a change in the color of the Naira. This action was dubbed the “real coup” by unscrupulous business men and politicians who had almost eliminated the need for commercial banking in Nigeria by keeping their moneys under their mattresses or by trafficking them into neighboring West African countries.

This currency change, which forced all holders of the naira notes into exchanging them for the new naira notes at commercial banks, infused billions that had remained unaccounted for into the banking industry and eliminated counterfeited currencies, which had inflicted inflationary and other nefarious effects on the economy. This measure had an immediate revitalizing effect in the banking industry and was an unqualified success. Banks that were close to collapsing became vibrant again, to the extent that some of them began to hire hitherto unemployed Nigerians.

To cut down on government expenses, the federal work force was cut by 30% and imports for 1984 pegged at 4 billion pounds (mostly on basic foodstuffs, spare parts, and raw materials for local industries), against 14 billion pounds spent in 1983. To ensure that Nigeria remained respectable on the international business world, Buhari committed to honoring Nigeria’s debt payment schedule irrespective of the limited earning potential of Nigeria. In August 1984, Buhari was on one of his meet-the-people nationwide tours, which he began as soon as the administration got on its feet. Everywhere he went, the people embraced him, coming out en mass and ushering him tumultuous cheers and unreserved applause.
