b) We don't know if the few percentage points is significant. I suspect that it is, but I don't know for sure.

Well, apart from literature, I haven't seen any really amazing or significant differences in the academic/intellectual achievement of the top people in different areas for most southern groups - despite the frequent assertions of superiority from this or that group.

And where in the world do they "sift" certain people out because they scored high marks in an examination, and give them "specialised education?" A genius should be able to adapt to anything, and make the best out of it..

Judging people's genius based on one performance is flawed - people peak academically at different times in their lives... So, rather than give certain people special treatment based on one performance - the Nigerian educational system needs to be improved to cater for all.. Let the 'geniuses' compete with other students! There's no harm in competition...

Einstein wasn't given special treatment, neither was Bill Gates - they proved the genius outside the four walls of a University..

Read what I wrote earlier about Thomas Alva Edison. You might not understand where I am coming from.
You mentioned Einstein, I hope you realise he was not a trained physiscist?
Bill Gates? I hope you realise that like Thomas Alva Edison, he pulled out of school?

About sifting. In your England, I'm sure they have classes based on intelligence, like year 13a, year 13b etc. And I'm sure the teachers take interest in grooming the brighter ones for leadership roles too, as well as pushing them into various community roles and toward schools like Canbridge. That is what is called sifting, but you might not know.

Beaf:

Thats why I used the word, "technically." Its according to Obj's definition.
In the real sense, the ND amounts to Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers which combined would struggle to get past 14 - 15 million. So the 20 million figure covers Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Edo. If we add Akwa Ibom and Cross River, we should get 22 - 24 million (most likely less).

The population of Akwa Ibom + Cross River combined is 2-4 million?

Why don't you do the math (not that hard) for the entire ND, then add Akwa Ibom + Cross River.
Lets see if you come to a different figure.

I am not the one who made the claim of a population of 20 million for the SS. You made the claim. So the onus is on you to defend your claim. Not me.

Dude, the math is not hard. You are the one making sneering remarks, so don't be lazy to show that you haven't been sneering and "laughing into your breakfast" out of stup!dty. The math isn't hard and census figures are out there.
Re: GEJ - 100 Top Student Brains To Be Given Scholarships by ektbear: 3:04am On May 25, 2012
If you say that X is true, nobody is obliged to do your work for you and back up your claim.

You make a claim, you back it up.

@ Beaf, Einstein was a very much a 'trained' physicist. His doctoral advisor was this fella:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Kleiner

A good example of a self taught, 'untrained' physicist of note is Oliver Heaviside or George Green.

Yes, I was wrong. He had a teaching diploma, but in 1905, the same year in which he wrote the Special Theory of Relativity, he obtained a PhD.

This is a good move from the retardeen. More of policies like this are needed and hopefully will stop calling him a rretard. I hope the executioners of this policy will do a good job. Kudos presido.

From the data: https://www.nairaland.com/925938/which-state-most-educated-nigeria/9

In 2005

SE App = 249618 SEAd = 41026 Ratio = 6:1

SW App = 249618 SWAD = 22901 Ratio = 9:1
A commensurate proportionality in SW Admission should no less than 34351 admissions. Percentage shortfall = 33%

2006
SE app =275758 SE Ad = 26498 Ratio = 10:1

SW app = 227834 SW ad = 17001 Ratio = 13:1
A commensurate proportionality in SW Admission should no less than 21667
Percentage shortfall = 22%

2007

SE app = 263144 SE ad = 32448 Ratio = 8:1

SW app = 218763 SW ad = 25578 Ratio =9:1
A commensurate proportionality in SW Admission should no less than 27496
Percentage shortfall = 7%

Average percentage shortfall for period = 20.7%

From the data so far, it is clear that SE applicants are more in number and also more successful in securing admission (higher pass rate).

It is good to ignore some of the B.S going on here, but once in a while records have to be set straight for those who like to put others on the defensive.

FACE: That source I posted was also a government source. And moreover is likely of higher value, since it actually provides more information than just raw applicants per state...it also tells us how people are doing on JAMB by state.

Just because the result is unpleasant for you doesn't mean that it is invalid.

However, I'll take a look at Table 3.26b from the PDF you posted. And if you have any other, feel free to post.

Actually, anyone mind typing up Table 3.26b and 3.26c (pages 174 and 175) from this: http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/ext/latest_release/ssd09.pdf?

Type up and share as a spreadsheet.

I have done a quick addition of the first two periods from pg 174-175 and they check out with the zonal totals I used. You can do same to verify.

I missed the official record you posted; I only saw the data from the other thread which was debunked at the time. Could you please post the source of the official record your referred to ? Thanks.

I am asking, can you or someone else type those tables into a spreadsheet?

As for the source, just check a few pages earlier where physics asked.

bayooooooo:

70 percent is an exaggeration. It's a national, not South West, list!!!!! 20-32% is more realistic. But I have no doubt that the South will dominate the list and even within south, yes, the West will dominate it. The job of the committee (it seems GEJ like committee a lot) is made easier already in some schools like UI where there is Dean's Roll of Honour in each faculty. All that's needed is to compile such lists and submit them for national competition. There is no point sending names, just send the matric number with the CGPA.

This is one policy I have absolutely nothing against and can only wish it could have been much earlier. It should also be put on record that OBJ canceled the only FG scholarship in 2004. FG used to pay 40k-60k based on performance in the test then to some good students with good heads on their shoulders only for OBJ, in his usual manner, to cancel it without any cogent reason.

If the programmee is implemented faithfully, as in without any form of quota system, it won't take five years that opposition will mount against it as the list will primarily be that of South Nigeria. Thereafter, a modification will surface with some propositions for the best of the worst to be considered and the whole scheme then get bastardized. Time will tell.

so for your mind, yoruba people sabi book pa for naija. soorrry ohh. its only the yorubas from ondo dat are dat brilliant from my experience.
for me the igbos come first, then the yorubas before odas, den the abokis shud be d last on the list grin

If you are referring to the links above, none of them have any verifiable source or link to govt documents and the tables are simply a figment of someones imagination in the absence of any source to back them up. However, this link http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/ext/latest_release/ssd09.pdf? has a source and is verifiable.

I will leave this thread now and I hope people have learnt their lessons about making outrageous claims designed to belittle others.

If you don't find the result of a presentation made by the head of JAMB credible, that is your problem, not mine.
