His wrongdoings according to FA spokesman Timi Ibikagbaro were clubbing on saturday night and driving a car with a personalized number plate 'Obodo 5', in general 'showing off and attracting unnecessary attention'.

The graetest freedom is the freedom from fear. It is indeed unfortunate that it is now forbidden to celebrate your success in Nigeria. If this trend continues unabated, I forsee the beginning of the end of Nigeria. God forbid!

you were worried about about your dad last week in the aftermath of the plane crash

i hope if he is kidnapped you will share these sentiments

seriously how old are you?

is this support of thieves immaturity, a desperate cry for attention , or outright stupidity?

You know the truth is that its easy for you to be an internet warrior and sound all intelligent but I'm so sorry, the reality on ground isnt so..

If you read my post on the first thread that talked about his Kidnapped, I made reference to this issue of flaunting and showing-off as the very first reason for his kidnap.

I live in the Niger Delta and work for one of the major oil producing companies and many of my colleagues have been kidnapped and the one thing I can tell you for free is;

1. Kidnappings in the Niger Delta today are not carried out by MEND, NDLFor any such organized group. All those militants are now enjoying government money and bunkering money thanks to the Amnesty programme and Ateke's contract of monitoring/policing the waterways..

2. Showing off without having a mobile police present can attract the wrong attention. And even a mobile Policeman isnt a guarantee that you will not be kidnapped but it sure as well gives them something to think about..

3. Most Kidnappings today in the Niger Delta are planned and even executed by close friends, families and associates.

Now I am not making excuses for the inefficiencies of the Nigerian police, but there is only that much they can actually do to prevent a kidnap. Now if Obodo was indeed driving around in an expensive car at night that had his name on the plates, flossing money in the club and popping champagne, stayed out partying so late, then I'm sorry, he was playing with fire and without atleast a mobile police escort present, then thats surely playing russian roulette with his safety..

This is the Niger Delta, you cant act anyhow.. If he were to be in Abuja or Lagos, feel free to drive in a convoy of convertible cars with matching plates serially arranged throwing money out the car and pouring drinks on the floor... NO PROBLEM.. But in the Niger Delta... Such tomfoolery isnt allowed.. Even protected politicians lay low..

the other day you said you were posting from canada

your tribalist and childish posts are clearly not those have never come off as a responsible person holding down a job in a multinational, multiethnic working environment, and you have always been conspicuosly absent on threads that discuss some technical issues in the industry.

so i am not surprised that you are implying that your colleagues ('oil workers' like you) are directly responsible for their kidnaps because
they are driving around in an expensive car at night that had his name on the plates, flossing money in the club and popping champagne, stayed out partying so late
.

is that how your kidnapped colleagues roll?

sounds like you're one of those 'internet oil workers' - abi you're trying to get into some nl chicks pants like that fellow on the front page thread?

Another Okija: on 6th june

Nwokem... Read the article on page one that started this Thread.. I am only quoting.. I am in Canada and dont even know anything about the crash except what Nairaland and the news networks give me..

So explain that strange 1 hour and 5mins interval between the pilots Mayday call and the eventual crash?!

Another Okija: on 3rd june WTF!!!!!!

The plane was from where to where?!!

My dad is on a plane from PH to Lagos o!!

Yup!!

Two weeks on leave sir.. So calculate when I put up that post and check before then.. I dont post this early in the morning when I'm home..

On my job, Im sure since you have the time to go through my posts, check and see and you will see where I even came close to mentioning my salary..

You sound like a trustworthy person.. and I will take your word for it..IF YOU Promise me you would delete it as soon as you finish reading it and will send you a picture of my Business card and MAYBE my I.D with my picture blurred out.. Complete with my office phone number and ext. and you can give me a call in 14 days time by which I should be back and at work.. I hope I can trust you

Like I try to tell many Nairalanders, some of us are only here to clown. Nothing on this thread is serious.. We can rant all we want but until you can prove to me that Jonathan, a State governor, Senate president or someone with the official capacity to effect a change is actually a member and takes our opinions seriously, then whats the point..

On commenting on industry related issues, well.. I dont think I have posted much on Oil related topics.. Maybe its because such threads barely/rarely ever make the front page..
Re: Christian Obodo's Abductors Demand €150K Ransom by Nobody: 4:55am On Jun 10, 2012
ok. . .

but i still don't agree on the people get kidnapped because they are showing off

we had a security seminar in the office and the security guy said the same thing - don't drive flashy car, keep a low profile

but in nigeria, late model japanese and korean cars count as flashy - so what am i to do? drive a 1992 corolla?

kidnapping is going on in lagos - and i am frankly worried. in this country where one's neighbours can turn out to be 419ers, drug couriers or yahoo boys everyday is an exercise in paranoia

i also agree on the relatives bit - and that is even more frightening - while you are busy juggling all sorts of expenses etal, you have some lazy relatives who are benefiting from you and still beefing you for your 'big money'

gbam + 1000

70% Of most kidnaping cases has revealed that there's always an insider or a close relative involved who wants a piece of the cake, and by the way as some one rightly asked which gsm number did the kidnapers use to call? GSM in nigeria are supposed to be registered with finger prints. The nigerian police should track the gsm used by the kidnapers to make this call with gps, in order to lead them to the location of the kidnappers, stone age police.

It is high time the nigerian govt enacts laws to make kidnapping a very bitter, and unattractive business and not the current lucriative , juicy, money spiner that its right now in nigeria

1) Death sentence for all kidnappers and their informants

2) provide high tech tacking device to track mobile gsm phones in all 36 states as gsm is their favorite mode of comunication

3)create a high tech anti kidnapping squad fully equipped with high tech, state of the art tracking devices and security personels

4) lastly Create jobs for the youths ooooooooo

By the time the kidnappers and their informants know that they will eventually be tracked an executed i guarantee you that kidnapping in naija will be reduced to the barest minimum.

That is no excuse at all !!! If a persons phone is stollen, its his or her duty to report the stollen sim card number to the service provider( MTN AIRTEL ETISALATE ETC) to block that number. Most kidnapers confidently use the gsm number of their informants, or their own gsm number which can be easily traced by forensic experts, its probably one in every 10 kidnapping cases that stollen sim cards are used to comunicate to the family of the kidnaped person.
