Your Quiet Time With God. How Interesting? by dafidixone(m): 12:09pm On Nov 24, 2007
Quiet time could refer to those precious moments after the kids are in bed, but for Christians, a quiet time is more than that. Quiet time, or devotion time, refers to our daily appointment with God, when we shut out as much outside interference as possible. During our quiet time, we may sing praise songs, pray, read Scripture or daily devotions, meditate on God's Word, or simply be still and listen. Making that appointment is one thing; keeping it is something else entirely!

Share yours with us. What you do right and What you pray God to help you improve. Shallom! smiley

My quiet time is an experience i have come to cherish.It has really helped me weather the storms and missing it for a day sets me on edge.Its a time to communicate with God by reading his word,praising him and praying.Admittedly,i have to drag myself out of bed sometimes to keep the date while at times i start spontaneously and wish it never ends.In short,without my quiet time i won't still be a christian.Dont keep it regularly?U are missing a lot.

I have never really understood the idea of having a quiet time. I mean I hear it is marvelous and all but for me it is not really about a completely quiet time but I do mine all day long. So far, it has helped and I am hoping it will help me get to a place where I can actually do it once a day and be done with it or something like that .

Having a quiet time is like having daily appointment with God. At this period you have you and God chating discusing things that affect yo. It is also an opportunity to hear God more clearly.

All you do is Worship God in the beauty of His Holliness. Read your Bible with inspiration. And you not only read you meditate inwhat you have read. If youdo it before going out like I do mine. I almost get prepared for all that happen in the day. God will inform me ahead of the day.

I must commend you for even started any way.

My quiet is one indispensable part of my day.it brings me closer to him,thereby making me acknowledge his presence and time.you see i have come to the conclusion that,the quiet time we have with God is reciprocal.if you give him your time ,he will give u his in return.

I quite agree with you. Dots please for Christ sake reconsider your ways. Remember God does not like His children to be nude He Clothed Adam and Eve even thought they disobey Him.

Pornography is not Christlike .

I understand where you are completely. I myself talk to God like all through the day myself and have no specific time I can call my "quiet time". I also share your experience of not having really heard 100% from God. I say that cause I am not sure I have heard him. I do not want to say He has been speaking but I have not been able to hear him yet cause I know He is God and If He really wanted to Get through to me in words, nothing would be in His way. If you have time, please pick up a Book called " How To Listen To God" By Charles Stanley www.Intouch.org . I used to have anxiety attacks over the whole Not hearing God issue in my life but then I got to a place where I realized that God does hear me since He answers my prayers and I know each time it is Him, even though I do not hear him but I continue to speak to him and have come to accept the relationship as it is for now, believing that in the future, when God is ready to speak and have me hear, I will Hear him. Check out that book and I am sure you will enjoy it. Also check out the site for daily audio archives of messages from Charles Stanley. He is a good teacher.

See, I am not worried about hearing or not hearing him though. I believe this is where I need to be with him at this time in my life @Dafidxone. I remember I spent so much time having anxiety attacks about this. Wondering why God was not speaking to me in my situation and telling me what the heck is going on. I remember spending years praying this and that off of me and even got to the point where I was binding spirits and family curses. But Still no sound and then one day I got thinking, I know God answers prayers cause even with the big problems looming, he has made sure to provide for the little needs. He answers my many prayers, it is just that I may need to wait a little longer for the other things that I need him to do for me since it may not be His time yet for those. So if He hears me and he provides and his word says to wait and I know that, why do I need to fret?? The relationship is ok the way it is for now until when he definitely has to reach me and then He definitely will since He is God. And that was it for me. This breakthrough happened just late last month. And since then, after so many years, I not only have peace I have had with him for a while but I actually wait in peace too, which is cool.

My ‘quiet time’ is usually the moment just before I retire to bed.  During this period, I try to regress back to my activities for the day, to see where I did  well and where I erred. It’s a sort of self appraisal! After looking at all these, I consciously map out ways to redress in any aspect where I feel I did not do well enough to portray my FAITH in GOD.

I will also like to use this opportunity to tell you about what God said to all of us today. Actually it was during my quiet time. God says: "Devil has got no new tricks" He also said "It is over" To hear Him better, just open your Bioble to Nahum 1:9. or go to www.bible.com if you have no Bible right with you.

When are you going to use a bit of the Grey matter? you tend to forget i had read the bible, meditated on it, starting from front to back and back to front. I had even peruse other holy books (Bhagavad Gita, al-Qur,an, Talmud,Vedas especially Atharva-Veda, The Way and Its Power, and The Spring and Autumn Annals) to gain practices, knowledge and wisdom. meditate on this verse and seek understanding for yourself, that purity is there only because we think rightly or wrongly that we are better more or less holier than somebody. If there is no relativity then there will be no born again, there will be no base line to start comparison. Just like numeral without the value zero, we might as well forget about everything and go back to the stone age, Albert Einstein

We put thirty spokes together and call it a wheel;
But it is on the space where there is nothing that the usefulness of the wheel depends.
We turn clay to make a vessel;
But it is on the space where there is nothing that the usefulness of the vessel depends.
We pierce doors and windows to make a house;
And it is on these spaces where there is nothing that the usefulness of the house depends.

I wish you could read your own post for your self. Compare with that which says The fool says in His heart There is no God.

I think when you come to a thread like this it is meant for the Children of God.

Exactly! you are hasty to judgment! i must have been a son of the most loving God to post on this public forum thread. And i belief you feel proud that you think you are a son of your God while I'm not. remember the bible story of the Adulteress-Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. so we are even now because you should under the law of the bible be with an iota of sin.

My quiet time is the most cherised part of my day. I wake up and I automatically enter the mode. I dont need to think about it b4 i do it. i have been programmed to do it daily. If you dont have such a time with God, please start now, it is never too late to start.

Quiet Times and the Newness of Life
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4 NKJV

God wants every person to know and live in a “newness of life” that comes through the Holy Spirit. God sends the Holy Spirit to live in us at the moment we place faith in Jesus (1 Corinthians 3:16). The Spirit functions as a guide and counselor, who helps us live for God. As we yield to the convictions of the Spirit, new “fruit” grows in our lives such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Those who reap such fruits will experience satisfaction and contentment in life.

God longs for each of us to seek him out and walk with him daily. In any relationship, time and commitment are important to its health. Likewise, if we want a healthy relationship with God we’ll need to invest time each day in getting to know him. I call this a “Quiet Time.”

A Quiet Time will help us discover God and become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit. This in turn will help activate the newness of life that Paul mentioned in Romans 6:4. The main point of a Quiet Time is to tune ourselves into God and commune with him. We can do this through a variety of activities, including prayer, worship and Bible study.

I like using a “links concept” to illustrate the value of these Quiet Time activities. Prayer is our commlink by which we communicate with God and vice versa. Worship is our powerlink that helps us put on humility and invites God’s work in our lives. The Bible is our lifelink, which teaches us about God and his ways. By maintaining these important links each day, we maximize our potential to live in the newness of life for that day.

I’m guessing that worship might be the most-neglected activity in peoples’ Quiet Times. I know that this had been the case for me for years. There are several possible reasons for this, including embarrassment, uncertainty on what to say or sing, inability to sing, and not wanting to wake others up. Over the years I’ve found some creative ways to incorporate worship, such as:

Sing along quietly with a worship
Sing in the garage
Sing in the car along
Read a Psalm aloud as a prayer and declaration of praise
Thanking God for every blessing in my life
David wrote in Psalm 63, “O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You, In a dry and thirsty land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1 NKJV). There is no life that is drier than one without daily time with the living God. As the source of living water for our souls, God waits for us each day to come, meet with him, and drink freely from his refreshing springs. If we do so, we’ll have the best chance of living in the newness of life that he has for us.

Questions for further thought:

As you consider your Quiet Times, are there any recurring things that hinder your time with God? If so, what could you do differently to avoid or work around those hindrances?

What is one of the primary benefits to having our minds “stayed” or “fixed” on God each day? (Isaiah 26:3)

Are there any dangers to being too regimented in a Quiet Time routine?

Prayer:

“Heavenly Father, Thank you for the assurance that I have of peace with you through the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross! Thank you that I can come to you boldly, without fear of judgment or wrath. Please forgive me for not coming to you more often each day to commune with you in a Quiet Time. Please help me make changes in my schedule and priorities that will ensure I meet with you each day. Please help me give you the praise and worship that you deserve, and teach me how to communicate with you in prayer. Father, please open my spiritual eyes and ears to receive your word in my daily Bible study. Finally, Lord, please help me relate to you as my heavenly, loving Father, who desires to meet with me. Help me to see my Quiet Time as a way to build my relationship with you. Thank you, Father! I praise you now and forever, Amen.”
