Good day sirs. Please I need urgent assistance. I drive a honda accord 1999 model with no transmission issues for a long time. I traveled and left it for a friend only to come back to discover that the reverse gear does not engage. When you put the car to reverse you only hear a terrible nosie and it dosent move but the forward movement is ok. Please can anybody help me by giving me a probable cause and remedy. Thank you guys

Your friend has probably damaged your car. and has anyone ever told you about Honda babyboy always having transmission issues.
go to a good auto mechanic workshop and get it checked out.
it could be fixed, so all hope is not lost.

this problem is more mechanical than electrical. Im afraid the tranny might have to come down. pls get the car to gear box specialist and not just a regular mechanic

yes sir.
firstly get a specialized gear box mechanic to check the car and then go to ebute metta and enquire how much a tokunbo gear box is.

compare notes. if it wuld cost like N10k to repair and N30k to replace, u choose what suits u

Reverse gear synchronizer sounds like it is damaged (sound you are hearing). This controls engagement of the reverse clutch drum which houses the clutch friction discs for reverse movement.

FIX: REPAIRABLE

1) REPLACE REVERSE GEAR SYNCHRONIZER ASSY
2) POSSIBILITY THAT FRICTION DISCS MAY ALSO BE AFFECTED. CAN ONLY BE DETERMINED UPON REMOVAL & DISASSEMBLY OF GEARBOX
3) GEARBOX OIL SEALS WILL ALSO REQUIRE REPLACEMENT, AS SOME SEALS MAY NOT BE RE-USABLE.
4) WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FILTER AT THE SAME TIME.

YOU MUST USE HONDA ATF Z1 (OR EQUIVALENT) AFTER OVERHAUL TO MAINTAIN SMOOTH OPERATION & LONGEVITY OF THE TRANSMISSION!

GOOD LUCK!
