agitator: Please, I am looking for Tbaba1234, passingshot, dabuilt, 989900, blackmarket, martineverest, pentiumpro these guys know where the naira appreciated against the dollar. People should help a brother and point them to this post - Thanks 989900: The new CBN policy to float the Naira 'sort of', can either turn to be a good thing, or a bad thing.
In this breakdown, I'll like to omit the hue: "appointed primary dealers" . . ..
Pros:
1. The new policy will foster Forex inflow through FDIs, both portfolio (some rules need to be set for those as regards withdrawal) and long term investors.
2. It will lead to less hoarding (which is one of the major albatross of the Naira) if managed right.
3. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if the CBN will furnish it with far better supply than it has been doing lately.
4. It will lead to an even more appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if the CBN can implement the 'Boyo' approach by implementing 'dollar certificates' in payments to governmental organs.
5. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if the dollar weakens and oil prices keep going north of $50 along with increase in national production.
6. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if the Mining/Agric/manufacturing/export sector are well funded with Forex, low interest loans, and industry growth enabling laws.
7. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if reasonable stable power supply can be sustained.
8. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if we can get our refineries working at near top capacity.
9. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if the current transparency, prudence, and accountability campaign can be sustained along with recovered Forex loots.
10. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if reasonable/sustainable foreign withdrawal limits are set on Naira ATM cards.
11. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if the population can be educated on the need to patronize Nigerian made goods and services.
12. It will lead to appreciable value of the Naira in both the inter-bank and BM rates, if ultimately, the CBN can abort its criminal ways (I still wonder why banks are allowed to keep over 20 billion dollars cash money in their vaults without enough CRR nor SLR to back it up, or do they?).
The Cons:
Just flip the 'pros' on its head, and you'll have anarchy: demise of the Naira. |

chccho: I don't mean to support buhari blindly here but I just wanna set the records straight here so that we stop misinforming ourselves here. Buhari has never master minded any coup in Nigeria not even the coup that overthrew shehu shagari, though he emerged as the commander in chief eventually he didn't master mind that coup neither did he have prior knowledge of it..You all should get your facts right He wasn't the master-mind, nor a major player like Babangida, Vasta, Bako, Idiagbon, Abacha, Bako, Gwadabe, MKO Abiola, Tunde Ogbeha, David Mark, Jokolo, Magoro, Umar, Akilu, or Dasuki, but he knew about it, and was complicit. Now, standard procedure with coup plotting is, it comes like a whirlwind, it doesn't take forever, once word is out -- it's out; you move in or abort. Irony is, once you know about it, or you're told about it, it's either you're in (part of the coup), or out (which means reporting it to the powers that be, or you are part of it). It is a life-threatening position to be in.
Most people indicted in the Vasta coup (1985) and the Diya coup (1997) were listed for execution, just for knowing about it, and not reporting it.
Buhari was selected to lead as one of the most senior . . . he might not have been a major player, but we can say he is glad about it, given his kinda sour relationship with then C-in-C Shagari.

blissbay: Well, in the case of Baba Falae, to me I don't see any issue in a party without presidential candidate to give her solidarity to any chosen candi date just as they supported PDP during the last election. If PDP decides to mobilize them with cash, it was not wrong and there is no way Falae can trace such money to Dasukigate. After all, many people contributed funds to President Buhari campaign including notable questionable personalities. I didn't hear that he reject such fund. However, saying that he divided the money between himself and the party maybe not be the business of EFCC as well. Lets be frank here. The corruption fight of this Government to me logically, it may not be totally from a Nigeria patriotic mind. Very soon, we shall see the end of the whole drama and the truth will be revealed I share your sentiments, the EFCC does too, that is why it is giving those with them yams, the opportunity to return them without further prosecution.
“We are not victimising any political party or investigating the source of campaign funds. All we are doing is tracing the billions of dollars stolen from the ONSA account. Once you return the money, you will have no problem.” OTOH, morally, Baba with his wealth of experience his aware of the massive looting and naked native stealing going on under Jonathan, and he was ready to support the same candidate for peanuts, selling we his people to penury -- that's moral treachery, or chicanery if you will! |

A detective said, “Chief Falae came to our office based on an invitation. He told us the story of how he received N100m based on the instruction of Anenih. However, our investigations revealed that Falae only transferred N60m to his party, SDP.
“The remaining N40m was personally withdrawn by him.
“We are not victimising any political party or investigating the source of campaign funds. All we are doing is tracing the billions of dollars stolen from the ONSA account. Once you return the money, you will have no problem.” It's sad to know someone like baba Falae would support the evil cancer (PDP), eating up the country like no tomorrow, for less than a N40m 'cut' (N40m divided by 3 million citizens of Ondo state = N13.33Kobo each, we were sold to PDP/Jonathan) . Why would a 77 year old statesman succumb to selling his soul and his people for a paltry sum (less than $100k)? |

95%+ of APC and PDP stalwarts, and folks on Nairaland DO NOT know what the word 'impeach' means.
Impeach: to charge with a crime or misconduct; specifically : to charge (a public official) before a competent tribunal/Senate, with misconduct in office.
Impeachment is the first step in removing an officer from office . . . it is not an end; rather, a means to an end.
E.g. Impeachment proceedings could be set up to remove a DPO (police), or Dean of faculty (University) from office.
OTOH, under average circumstances, we should resist a coup against a democratically elected government at all cost, regardless of party affiliation, Unless we are ready to go back 33 years back in time.
The 'new coup' is at the ballots, vote wisely next time, and always.

Politics › Re: What Nigeria Can Learn From Turkey Failed Coup by 989900E: 8:44am On Jul 16, 2016 |
Coup in 2016 with social media, and camera phones? Try it. The above was my take last week on the coup rumor in Nigeria.
It makes it more complicated; a coup should be a secret endeavor, done in the most sacred of trusts, with the most brutal element of surprise (in the 80s, we only woke up to the national anthem and the voice of one General Sani 'you-know-who').
So, when you eliminate the secrecy angle, you eliminate trust, ultimately your most devastating weapon: 'surprise' is absolutely decimated! So what do you get -- you get left standing with your 'JT' in your palm . . . not a situation any half-intelligent and responsible officer wants to be in, considering the devastating consequences of a failed coup.
Social media caused the Arab spring. The most successful a coup (especially a not-so popular one) can get in this time and age is, causing anarchy and disintegration.
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA -- IT IS 'REAL' POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
You wonder why all our politicians and public office holders now have an online media team -- you can get destroyed in a whim online!
Ironically, the pathetic Turkish president (Erdogan), realized this and went attacking social media platforms -- voila, guess what saved him ATEOTD . . .
It is a win and a big lesson for the Turkish people (that ultimately the power lies with the people), a win and a big lesson for all democracies and peoples of the world (that ultimately the power lies with the people) including ours -- a win and a loss for Erdogan (he might retain his seat, but he has lost his insane bid to stifle the people's voices -- he owes them one -- a big one), and a big, big, lesson for him, and an opportunity for him to have a re-think about his bullish and corrupt ways.
A BIG LESSON FOR OUR LEADERS TOO.
And for all democracies; you don't like the system, vote wisely with your head next time when it is time to vote. |
