Coup in 2016 with social media, and camera phones? Try it.The above was my take last week on the coup rumor in Nigeria. It makes it more complicated; a coup should be a secret endeavor, done in the most sacred of trusts, with the most brutal element of surprise (in the 80s, we only woke up to the national anthem and the voice of one General Sani 'you-know-who'). So, when you eliminate the secrecy angle, you eliminate trust, ultimately your most devastating weapon: 'surprise' is absolutely decimated! So what do you get -- you get left standing with your 'JT' in your palm . . . not a situation any half-intelligent and responsible officer wants to be in, considering the devastating consequences of a failed coup. Social media caused the Arab spring. The most successful a coup (especially a not-so popular one) can get in this time and age is, causing anarchy and disintegration. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA -- IT IS 'REAL' POWER TO THE PEOPLE! You wonder why all our politicians and public office holders now have an online media team -- you can get destroyed in a whim online! Ironically, the pathetic Turkish president (Erdogan), realized this and went attacking social media platforms -- voila, guess what saved him ATEOTD . . . It is a win and a big lesson for the Turkish people (that ultimately the power lies with the people), a win and a big lesson for all democracies and peoples of the world (that ultimately the power lies with the people) including ours -- a win and a loss for Erdogan (he might retain his seat, but he has lost his insane bid to stifle the people's voices -- he owes them one -- a big one), and a big, big, lesson for him, and an opportunity for him to have a re-think about his bullish and corrupt ways. A BIG LESSON FOR OUR LEADERS TOO. And for all democracies; you don't like the system, vote wisely with your head next time when it is time to vote. |

Jaymaxxy:So true (he is selfless to a large degree . . . not always about him), and he fought Abacha too. No doubt, he is an astute politician, he might not be a saint, he might be particular about looking out for his interests (who doesn't), but he does that while looking out for the interests of those around him, and the masses too; like a 'win-win'. |
Ezenwammadu: Irony of life. Shame on him. OTOH, I do not support hostile military takeover (coup). |
Further reason why every Nigerian president/HOS puts his men in charge of military affairs while retiring their predecessors appointees. Expect Buhari to unrepentantly and strategically Northernize Nigeria's military in coming days. |
TomLepskie:Exactly, I had him in mind. |
Sanusi has no pedigree to say much on this issue after defending the Naira with billions himself, accompanied with faulty policies that got us here . . . how convenient? OTOH, better trained economists disagree with him. He is advocating for a 'clean float', but asides Switzerland and Canada, almost everyone else practice a 'dirty float'. |
Fastest way to have your reputation destroyed in Nigeria is, to take up appointment as the minister of power . . . let's see if Fash can 'do superman'. |
papadjaji:That is Gen Abayomi Olonisakin (Chief of Defence Staff). Buratai's boss. He is the only active 4 star general (full general) in the NA. He is from Ekiti. |
Nothing in this article clears both men . . . no explanation, nothing, just some 'not-here-not-there' garbage. |

(2) The provisions of subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to civil proceedings against a person to whom this section applies in his official capacity or to civil or criminal proceedings in which such a person is only a nominal party. There is no such thing as absolute immunity, and our constitution rightly foresaw the abuse of power inherent in human nature, hence the clauses above. Then we have the small matter of immunity not covering electoral related cases. Any other informed interpretation is welcome. |
Do something, too many excuses already. |
kokoA:Brazilian booty, your majesty! Who can resist? ![]() |
With the way Saraki and co., are going about this (brutishly), they just might be detained with unmeetable bail conditions at the next hearing . . . so, what would they do? |
EFCC self . . . do they posses the proper/adequate training for this job? We want a more efficient and intelligent EFCC. |
Ali Nani, where is he from? |
Zenith bank has technically killed Fayose -- who knows what else Zenith has told the authorities? |
The kind argument for that house, no be here. ![]() |
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Mr. Peter Amangbo, has denied that the bank sponsored the governorship campaign of Fayose in 2014, contrary to the governor’s claim. Amangbo told the EFCC that the bank had only one branch in Ekiti State, wondering why the bank would invest in Fayose when the state government had no account with the bank. Fayose had claimed that his campaign was funded by the bank and a few private individuals. The bank MD said at no time did he hold a meeting with Fayose and his friend, Agbele. A source at the EFCC stated that Amangbo said at no time did he meet with Abiodun Agbele or any representative of Fayose. He said the allegation that the bank funded the Ekiti State governorship election was false. “He further stated that at no time did Fayose and the chairman of the bank, Mr. Jim Ovia, and himself hold a meeting. “He said the bank, as a matter of policy, did not sponsor political groups or elections.” |
That so, so, wrong if true. |
Dr. Teriba and Prof. Tella already said all what I need to hear . . . by and large though, they are all saying the same thing. |

globe16:Patience is a virtue. OTOH, Dino is on 'self-destruct' mode already -- no one needs to do a thing about him. |
OBAGADAFFI:Even at the height of Baba Adedibu's madness, he always accorded BAT his distinguished respect -- he never dared. |

"As of December 2013, the total installed or nameplate capacity (maximum capacity) of the power plants was 6,953 MW. Available capacity was 4,598 MW. Actual average generation was 3,800 MW.[1] As of December 2014, the total installed capacity of the power plants was 7,445 MW. Available capacity was 4,949 MW.[2] Actual average generation was less than 3,900 MW. The Presidential Task Force on Power's peak demand forecast is 12,800 MW (April 2015)." By 2018 we should have over 17,000 MW installed capacity (hopefully) . . . if transmittable, that should guarantee roughly 20 hours of steady power supply across board; not where we wanna be, but a good place if doable, considering where we were coming from. |
L L . . . 'alooter continua'. |
