Blessing Okagbare just won the 100m event of the London Diamond League in 11.01secs beating favourites like Jeter Camelita (USA, 11.03) and world record holder FRASER-PRYCE Shelly-Ann (Jamaica, 11.82). Congrats blessing

In the 100, Okagbare of Nigeria won in 11.01 seconds, leaving world champion Carmelita Jeter trailing in second, and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in last place.

“Whatever you say about the conditions, you have to go out there and do your best,” Okagbare said. “That was what I did today and I’m really grateful for that. The time was good. It was a strong field.”

Fraser-Pryce said her focus was on the bigger race coming up in the British capital.

“As an athlete you have to take precautionary measures and hope things get better because the Olympics are pretty much on us,” the Jamaican said. “I’m working on some things at the moment.”

I remember those days how Davidson Ezinwa and Olapade used to beat the top athletes before the olympics and then come to the olympics and struggle to get to the final! I hope this is not her peak because her rivals have programs that ensure that they peak at the olympics. Before someone starts ranting about how we dont ever see any good in our achievements pls know that i wish her the very best o which is a gold medal in each event she participates in. But we have seen our good athletes burnout at the wrong time while those they used to beat months or weeks earlier go on to set World or Championship records.

Sometimes foreign athletes have to run so many meets in order to make money and to get name recognition due to the lack of sponsorship for the Olympic preparation. Usein Bolt can afford to pull out of a recent competition because he can afford to and then focuss on the Olympics and get well.

Fracer-Pryce might not be a graceful loser as thought.
