A while ago I discussed the radiator/transmission issues in the above stated vehicles (page 4 of this thread https://www.nairaland.com/678348/nissan-infiniti-parts-store-opebi/4)
I explained the design flaw in the radiator cooler for these models which will result in transmission failure in at least 70% of them if action is not taken.
In that same thread a nairalander stated he was about to get an 07 model and I specified what needed to be done to avoid transmission failure. This was back in January.

About a week ago, that user posted this thread https://www.nairaland.com/981992/transmission-gurus-what-would-cause describing an issue with his transmission which I commented on and asked him to bring over. Upon resolving that issue and knowing that the sensor affected almost never fails, i investigated the root cause of the issue and found this (see attachments)

At the moment, the transmission has lost the 4th gear due to the ATF mixing with coolant. We have a 50% chance of salvaging the transmission and if unsuccessful, a transmission replacement (costing between 600k to 800k) will be required in addition to an 80k radiator replacement.

I am posting this as a vivid reminder and description of what I posted earlier in January. The danger of transmission failure in these models is a strong reality. Take action now or ensure at the very first sign of your transmission acting unusually, you check your radiator water/coolant for any coloured particles and stop driving it.

Thanks Nissparts for this timely warning.I had to byepass my radiator 2days after i bought my 2005 pathfinder.Thanks for the drawing you provided.This is the only major flaw with the truck.

Hello Sir. Thank you for your very enlightening post. I just bought a 2005 pathfinder, the car mileage is on the high side (170k miles) . I'm not sure if the by pass has been carried out on the vehicle. Is there an easy way for me to check this considering I'm not too familiar with the connection system.
