The rationale NOI (FG) IMHO is trying to adopt is a simple economic model.

Create scarcity in order to increase market demand which would in turn stimulate production so that producers would strive to supply so much as to fill the vacuum created by the scarcity, hence creating employment, revenue, specialization, etc...

in this case creation of scarcity will only further drive up costs and inflation in an earlier post you mentioned we don't need electricity or any other structures to start production of cars what this simply means is that the cost of production will be very high as manufacturers will have to provide their own amenities which then defeats the purpose of your policy and will only open up markets for smugglers imagine if a nigerian produced car is 5-7 million brand new but you can get a better spec'ed one from the us for 3 million how is such a market sustainable at the current wages nigerian workers receive how long before they are able to afford such cars? and this is even without touching on the issue of specifications and safety features which we already know the made for Nigeria market cars lack.
in my own opinion this policy will work out great if we have the proper legislation backing and also the proper backbone that will make the production costs low and the prices competitive especially in our own local market not to say it cannot work in its present guise but the hardship that will come along with it will be much not to mention the multiplier effect on almost every sector of the nigerian society

hope you noticed the A4 is actually the worst rated of the bunch and i don't think the Lexus will do worse than 8.2 when it is reviewed but then again you have to acknowledge that the IS is an alternative to the A4 i mean based on that review the cadillac should be the best seller but we all know it won't do as well as the bmw, benz, audi, and lexus

When I said don't put Camry and A4 in same sentence I wasn't referring to their market category but as an individual car, like I said the A4 is everything the Camry is not and pls don't mention Corolla and A4 in same sentence biko.
The Corolla and A4 are both in same market category but putting both in same sentence is a big disrespect to VW, Lexus IS would be more considerate.

why would it be a big disrespect? its not the same corolla that sells more than all the other luxury sedan's combined? once again my point is compare similar cars not cars in different categories marketed to different classes of people

Like I said in my first post which is the root of this argument, Camry might be a midsize sedan while the A4 is an entry level sedan but the A4 is everything the Camry will only dream of and shouldn't be mentioned in same sentence as you did in your first post.

bros but in my first comment i only asked why the A4 was being compared to a Camry and if it needed to be compared to a Toyota product then the corolla or IS would be more suitable comparisons and besides even at that the Camry offers better fuel economy more space and is also cheaper to maintain than both the IS and A4 so not like it doesn't have its own strong points

Yes the IS is Lexus' direct competitor to the A4, BMW 3series and Benz C class but that doesn't mean it can beat any of them head-head, base trim of the C class will have base trim IS for lunch anywhere and anytime.

like i said saying which is the better car is a subjective thing what you might like someone else might not and looking at online reviews some years of the IS were actually rated better than the C class but at least we are now on the same page not the A4 vs camry page lol

Mention the model year let's do the comparison and see where it takes us, the only Lexus that can push a German car to the brink is the LS which is a full size sedan in same category as Benz S. Class, BMW 7 series and Audi A8.

i dont understand what you are saying the IS was developed to compete with the C class, 3 series and A4 and is actually a very good alternative to the above mentioned cars. is it a better car? thats left to the buyer but is it a genuine alternative yes it is

The A4 maybe targeted at the entry sedan market but it is everything the Camry is not, a C-class and A4 will make Camry of same year look dumb.

as far as i am concerned its apples and oranges the camry cannot be said to be an alternative to an A4 the C class, 3 series and IS would be better alternatives

yup it may be bland shapcaeless and soulless but its one of the best in its class a midsize economy sedan and you cant be comparing it with a small luxury sedan different cars targetted at different markets

funny to see how those advocating hardship don't live in the country and probably was the same hardship that drove them away. When we have put things in order then a ban or hike in tariff might not be necessary because as the laws of demand and supply dictate no one will go to import what he can get cheaper in the local market but before that the only thing this will accomplish is a rise in cost of transportation with its attendant multiplier effects on all the sectors of the economy.
we have gone through enough voodoo economics by arm chair economists what we need are sustainable solutions and in my opinion instituting a ban on what we don't produce or have the capacity to produce as yet is not it

Ohhh, if you have seen someone being chased by such cars then its going to be a very race case..
Its very easy to catch any deviant, Just a traffic camera is enough to track people down.
But in some cases I have seen police helicopters go after people mainly accidents ...
I cant even get my head around a crime that one will commit and try to run with a car in that country...
Again those cars are usually driven by very high ranking police officers and those ones cant be bothered.

well sometimes not so easy as most would seek to flee the country to avoid prosecution and evem those high ranking policemen need high profile arrests to boost their careers

if you say so but i have actually seen someone chased most times the cars belong to foreigners and in such cases where they knockdown someone they bolt but yes that might also be a secondary consideration to pull in more tourists

yeah but that's the issue after the bid of 198 there were no other bids I understand the auto bid bidding in say increments of 2$ or 1$ or even 3$ but to jump from 198 to 215 is a bit much isn't it?

don't know if this the right section for this but mods bear with me

i have noticed overtime i use the outbid feature on eBay and win a bid it automatically charges me the highest amount i put to bid up to and not necessarily the winning bid for instance i just won an item in which i had asked to bid up to a maximum of 215 the last person to bid put in a bid of 198$ but on check out i was still charged the full 215 and not just say 200 or 199? does this happen to anyone else? is it normal?
