The Lagos cable car project is on course. It is privately driven and the private sector need to get all the permits.



After three years of postponement, work has begun on the $275million cable car project.
In an interview with The Guardian, Lagos state Commissioner for Transportation, Dayo Mobereola, revealed intricate details of the car project.
“The Lagos cable car project is on course. It is privately driven and the private sector need to get all the permits, on the side of Lagos, we have given them all the necessary permit, they are talking to the federal government to get some level of guarantees and we have assisted them to write to the federal government. They have taken the advantage by starting to build from the Iddo side of Lagos."


Upon completion, the project will have eight stations in three routes, in order to handle the estimated 240,000 trips daily.

The car project will begin at Ijora, then move to Apapa and Victoria Island, with a central hub around Adeniji Adele.

A Lagos Tolling Company, set up to be in charge of the concession of the bridge, would retain 27 per cent of the gross revenue from the toll, while 73 per cent goes to the state government

A project management consultant, Aderanti Dairo, said: “MMA2 is a very good example of a PPP arrangement that has worked and has shown that if the government is serious about closing the infrastructure deficit, PPP is the way to go. It has really been a resounding success, which no one can deny. PPP is sure the way to go.”State governments, such as Lagos, Rivers and Cross River states, have also used the PPP.  In Lagos, the Lekki-Epe Expressway was built through the PPP. The Eko Atlantic project, which is sitting on what used to be known as the Bar Beach, is being implemented through the PPP. The Lekki-Ikoyi suspended bridge was also built through PPP. A new sea port and airport around Lekki are also being worked out through a PPP arrangement.

Are you judging by the night lighting or paints on the bridges? it's easy for cars to fall off these bridges, the best bridge in this country is Onitsha niger bridge, I don't think Nigeria will be able to put such structure again

Keep deceiving your self, Lakki bridge was PPP agreement between JB plc and Lagos state, that's why it's most expensive toll bridge concessioned in Nigeria, Lagosians pay through their noses before they access the bridge, have you ask yourself how many vehicles ply the bridge, from Lakki phase 1, you will see residents using the cheaper Lakki toll gate which is more stressful with heavy traffic, instead of using the bridge that can easily connect to Ikoyi.
