WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN ONE SAYS, "I am a Warrior ". Many times those of us living with sickle cell disease, refer to ourselves as Warriors. What does this mean? A warrior is someone who is very active in battles and have won many battles, and most likely will still face many more battles and win or eventually be defeated. The above is simply the life of a person living with Sickle cell disease. We fight our battles as often as you can imagine. Both seen and unseen. Physical as well as psychological. The life of a Warrior is most times dogged with battles and no matter how weak we are, we still fight on. No matter how blunt the sword is, we still wield it with the hope of winning. No matter how hopeless our efforts seem to be, we still put in our best. We are Warriors and we have to fight and win or watch as we are defeated and added to statistics. Fortunately for most of us, QUITTING IS NOT AN OPTION. |
is this a campaign targeted at creating awareness for sickle cell which is the focus of vicar hope foundation or is the foundation diversifying into HIV/AIDS campaign and drug abuse campaign? |
ARE YOU STILL OF THE OPINION THAT WARRIORS DIE YOUNG? How many of you 'healthy' ones still think that what Warriors know how to do best, is to die young? Thank God for improved health system and improved information technology. We now know that there are many warriors out there living their lives and fulfilling their destinies. That misconception about dying young, no longer holds water. Because, when you live right and do what you are supposed to do healthwise, you will live a fulfilled life. |
viewingcentres:Hope your present 'Love' will be able to withstand crisis and reality if perchance you have a CC baby? Of course there are even SS living well and doing well. The question is, are you ready to face reality if and when it stares you in the face? |
HOW HAVE YOU CREATED AWARENESS: It's unfortunate that even in this day and time, many people don't know much about Sickle Cell disease. And because of this lack of knowledge, many have blindly gone into relationship and ended up making babies who eventually turn out to be Warriors. The unfortunate thing is that, these babies who never asked to be born are sometimes neglected to Fate. Some of them become so despised, even by their so called parents that you begin to wonder if it was their fault that they are born Warriors. It breaks my heart to hear that some so called 'fathers' even abandon the mother and Warrior child, because in his warped thinking the woman is the cause of their suckled cell baby. Young girl, yes you reading this, do you know your genotype? Even if you do, are you sure that the result from that laboratory is the authentic one? Handsome dude, are you really sure that your genotype is AA, or you just believe because your parents told you that all their children are AA? How much do you know about genotype testing? How vast is your knowledge about this thing called Genotype? How careful can you be, so that you don’t end up fathering/mothering a Sickled cell baby? |
How have you created awareness?
Do you know your genotype?
Are you still of the opinion that Warriors die young?
Are you still ignorant about, what it actually means being a Warrior?
Do you still consider Warriors as 'lazy' beings, who can't hold a job? |
babeface3:Can you be more specific. What is actually the problem with your boy? Also you could go through my threads, and learn one or two things about managing sickle cell disease. Warning: Be careful about contacting people outside NL... Also be careful about self medicating your. boy. |
mannatech:Someone told me exactly what you wrote up there. That the guy has a grudge against me. But I can't even begin to understand why. I was already managing the property before my mum died and it was I who signed tenancy agreement with him. My only solace is that the tenancy agreement was iron clad and was prepared by my lawyer. Thank you for your comment. |
I want to read more comments on this. Daboomb |
teemy:Yes. A record was taking concerning the threat. Sometime last year I was forced to serve him a Notice to Quit, because he was owing rents and wasn't even making any effort at communicating with me when he is likely to pay. He has always had that ego something. But eventually he came and paid, and that was when he told me he was annoyed with me. I would have built another burglary proof and put it outside his door so that he can come and go as he wished. But, if I let this slide other tenants will take me for a ride. His second Notice to quit is already counting and I intend seeing it through. Even if it gets to the court. |
Acidosis:Exactly. With benefit of hindsight, this problem may not have arisen if maybe the burglary proof was outside instead of inside. But, when he rented the place in 2015, my mum was still alive and my aunt and others were still in the house always. I will correct that mistake, but not with this present man. I have three other tenants staying in that house and I have never had any problem with them, neither do I disturb them or insult them even when they are owing rents. |
I understand the story is lengthy. But I appeal to the MODs to help me push this story. I need to get as much impartial comments as possible. Also lawyers in the house and property managers should make an input. The house has been handed over to a lawyer. But some of the tenants there have a cordial relationship with my family and I don't know if it's what gave the man the guts to threaten me. en1gma12:I believe I am genotype SC. But some of my lab results read genotype SS. Much difference is not found in genotype SC or SS. Both often witness severe mind wrenching crisis. If you have a better alternative, please avoid a union that will produce either SS or SC. |
Nairalanders please read and make comments. The Story: I rented out, a one room self contained to a man in 2015. The room is attached to my family house and have about two entrances. The entrance which the tenant uses to go out and come in has a burglary proof inside. For security reasons, we instructed the tenant to always lock his burglary proof and go out through the other entrance that leads into our side of the house, anytime he will be spending the night outside the compound and he agreed. When my mum was alive this arrangement was a problem as someone was always at home. After my mum's death in 2016, her sister living with her then traveled to Lagos to go spend some time at my elder sister's place, and she is still in Lagos even as I am writing this. December 2016, this tenant traveled with his family, and didn't come back to the house till January 2017. We tried to reach him on phone before my aunt traveled but his phone number was unavailable. when he came back January 2017, he went straight to the house and on getting there he found everywhere locked up. The time was past 9pm. He put a call to me to bring the keys to him, and I told him that it was already very late and I live a bit far from my family house. I asked him to spend the night at one his neighbors (another tenant within the compound and a bachelor) and very early in the morning I will come and open the door for him. He flatly refused and insisted on coming to my house to collect the keys. I didn't have a problem with that. When he came, I gave one my cousins that just came in that evening the keys to go with him. So that he can open up his room and my cousin will lock up the doors and bring back the keys to me. Sometime around mid 2017, the tenant opened up to me that he has been angry with me. I enquired the reason for his annoyance. He mentioned incident that I narrated above and that why he called me to bring the keys to him is because I have a car. I told him he shouldn't reason like that, one he came back in the night and I don't go out at night neither do I stay out late. Fastforward December 2017, this guy traveled to his village with his family and didn't bother locking up properly. When I found out, I went with the agent that brought him in another tenant in the compound and a cousin to go and lock up properly. Then I put a call across to him to call me when he is coming back to come and open the door for him. When he came back January 2018, he called me and I went to open the door for him. After opening up the entrance I asked him to go and open his door. He replied that, "I should go in and open his door the same way I locked it". His tone to say the very least was insulting and condescending. I repeated that he should go in and open his door or i will lock up and leave. It was then that this guy started jumping up and shouting that "he will deal with me" over and over again. It was my cousin that was even trying to calm him down asking him if he doesn't have respect. Eventually the wife came back and went in to open their door. I reported the matter to the police, and nothing came out of it. (we all understand NPF). I have equally served him a quit notice to vacate the apartment when his rent expires. It might interest you people to know that this guy has never paid his rent on time after that first payment and I haven't for one day, insulted him or spoke harshly to him. I am always patient with my tenants to a certain extent and I respect all man irrespective of your financial status. But threatening me, in my own house.... |
May she find solace. We have support groups, where we are free to talk and discuss what ails us. Don't be shy, look for these groups and join one. Search the Facebook, we are there and we hold each other up. I am sorry and sad about the death of this young boy. |
Because of tribe. Because of religion. If Southern policemen had carried out this atrocity on the house of a Northern politician, not even past Head of State, some parts of the country would have cried blue murder. Everything wrong with this country, stems from the Hypocrisy of. its leaders. |
cochtrane:What other proof do you need? The people of South America, some people from India and other races and nations do have Sickle cell. |
Chi59:You have survived this long, not by your power or might. Him, who have led you this far, will continue to hold up. |
cochtrane:Please this is falsehood. Yes, blacks have more number of people living with sickle cell, doesn't mean that other races don't have equally high number of people living with sickle cell. And No, it's not a black man's disease. |
bamisho:Brotherly, why are you getting yourself worked up because of ignorant people? I live with Sickle cell and I always tell the Nay sayers that my God is God that fetches water with a Basket to disgrace the bucket. My mum's friend, a warrior, is almost into her 70s that is if she has not already crossed the 70s mark. Some of my classmates in the secondary who weren't SS... are 6ft below. So why should I fear, when I Trust in God. Some said we cannot impregnate women and have our own babies, but many of us are carrying their children. Some say, we are not strong enough to endure the rigors of corporate enterprises, but many of us excel in our different careers and business, despite the odds. Sickle cell doesn't define me or any other Warrior. Congratulations Anne Welsh. |
bamisho:The S gene (and not sickle cell) was nature's way of protecting those living in malaria prevalent environment. That is why those with AS genotype are more resistant to malaria than those with AA..or SS.. genotype. |
Lekinzmah:It's very affordable. Shouldn't be more than #2000. May not even be up to that. |
omoelerin1:Go to a reputable laboratory or Teaching hospital and request for a genotype test. |
NwaAmaikpe:Bro, please educate yourself about Sickle Cell. Ask any male SS, he will tell you that he has a very high sex drive. Infact if a male SS don't take time, he may experience Priapism. Please Google it. I am married and God has blessed me with two wonderful kids. NB Your advice is out of place and stems from ignorance. |
SICKLE CELL ANAEMIA
(WORLD SICKLE CELL DAY) Legs aching with slightest sickness, Knees quaking with utmost weakness, A moment of leg ulcer, untold trauma, Crying bloody tears in a state of coma. A moment of sickness, paralyzed health, Writhing in pain, struggling for breath, Rolling on the floor in tearful pains, Bones aching like someone in chains. Oh why! Oh my! Oh why sickle cell? Crying hot tears in basket of well, Grips of pains seems too much, Miracle seems too far to touch. Ulcer legs, aching sore-ful bones, Fatigue, fainting, backout prone, A moment of pain makes very ill, Injections taken against one's will. It strangles health when you least expect, It gift pain without will to object, Ulcer legs, bones sore, Slightest sickness, knocking on heaven's door. Fatigue, blackout like a man in the coffin Oblivious of what is in the offin; But I'll rise again, I won't be silenced by pain. Though sickness makes nights dreary I won't allow my soul to be wearied, I will never give up on breathe And I will never give in to death. My faith won't be smothered by dismay, My strength will be renewed day by day, I won't give up the will to live, My head won't be buried in grieve. I may stand, faint and fall But I won't give up the will to stand tall, Anxiety and agony won't rest on my soul, I will rise again and be made whole. I won't give up the ghost, I won't be death's host, I won't yield to the bid of casket, I won't kick the bucket. All Rights Reserved Osoba Taiwo P. ©PeterPushingPoetrywithPenetratingPen 2017. |
@Dominique and Lalasticlala, it won't be out of order to ask that this thread be pushed to the Front Page. We remain loyal to NL. |
Today, June 19, is a day set aside by WHO as World Sickle Day. I am here today, because I have survived. Battles have been fought, casualties recorded, and comrades lost(in this fight against Sickle Cell). We will soldier on. We will keep lending our voices to the fight against Sickle Cell. No matter how obstinate or nonchalant the rest are about the scourge, we owe a duty to ourselves to make our voices heard. No matter, how much others disdain us, we owe a duty to ourselves to make our voices heard. No matter how loud and deafening the silence is, by those who are supposed to know better. We owe a duty to ourselves to make our voices heard. The scars are there. The pain has not gone away. The midnight tears, is a constant reminder of the battles we have to fight. But above all else, I have SURVIVED. Happy World Sickle Cell Day. |
NwaAmaikpe:I'm ashamed of you and those who liked your comment. Me, I be 'Sickler' as you called it. And I'm living testimony that shame those who are not 'Sickler.' This is because I have a God who Fetches water with the Basket in order to shame the Bucket. |
itzzhoneybee:AS crosses AA..... It will result in the probability of AA AS AS AA That is a 50% chance of having AA or AS in every pregnancy. That means, all the children can turn out AA or AS OR all the children will be a mix of AA and AS or All the children will end up being AS. |
MissRaine69:Please and please, never comment on anything that has to do with genotype until you have properly educated yourself. We can overlook those who say all type of trash about sickle cell, but when it comes to genotype pairing, I cannot in good conscience overlook it. |
itzzhoneybee:You dey mind her. Upon all the materials out there teaching genotype pairing, some people are still this ignorant. |
MissRaine69:Chai!!! ignorance |
