Well, for example, assuming I want to buy a mini bending machine or grinding machine or a welding machine that should cost say #30,000 and weighs say 30kg. Now assuming import cost is #1,500 per kg, it simply means I'd be paying #45,000 for importation alone, minus transport cost required to take it to the business location. So in total, I'd be spending about #75,000 for a machine I might find here in Nigeria for less this amount.

Another example is anvil. Anvil is a very heavy machine but cost little. As little as #10,000 to #15,000 but may weigh as much as 30-40kg

Jumia sells for #30,000 minimum
Konga sells for # 6,000 minimum
Kaymu sells for #32,000 minimum

My supplier want to sell for me now at $1.6

But I want to force the supplier down to $0.8 so as for me and the member of the Plan B group to maximize profit,will you not join the train now ? How much do you want to sell this item that you wont make profit? We are making payment for the item first thing on Monday morning.

The negative side: There is limit to the number of slots available in PLAN B,once all this slot is taken up, I will stop all registration and will also stop talking about the group on this thread. Kudos to Stanbic Bank and her management team! I was charged at #212/$ last week but the shipper could not ship my items due to some reasons and the transaction was cancelled.I got alert just now 2nd Sept,2015 1:12pm that the money had been refunded into my account. I checked the refund rate but Lo and behold,it was refunded at same #212/$.

6. Avoid unhealthy competition; don’t DEAL MUCH of goods that are widely circulated and majorly patronized.
It might not be easy to beat the local market price of some commodities due to the fact the cartels maximize their buying power by importing as many container loads as possible to maximize their profits. (This is why PLAN B exist,you cant beat their price alone. Togetherness does it!)

You wouldn’t want to compete with them by selling those types of commodity. Some of them are essentials like clothes, shoes, and electronics.

You can have your market share for selling this type of product if you can do a proper market feasibility report and you can offer the people a top-notch customer service or after sale services.

7. Avoid seasonal products, unless you have a strong marketing strategy.
It is rational and safe to only stick to products with a good customer base.
I can’t dispute the fact that there is a lot of profits that can be made by arranging a father Christmas event with schools and churches to sell your service and products, nor disputing that selling other festive product is unprofitable, but remember that they are time-bound and if you’re unable to finish your stock by the end of the festive period, it means you’re going to lose your money to tons of worthless products lying in your warehouse, some people are already saying afterall, there is always another festive period, don’t you think by the next festive period a product with a better design might emerge? (We just researched one of such products,its with a new design. Its gonna sell much.)

8. Avoid product with strict verification process.
You wouldn’t want to get into battle with NAFDAC, NDLEA and the likes. If not there is sensibleness in avoiding edibles and cosmetics. Though, the product that falls into this category can still be imported legally by means like contract-manufacturing, outsourcing which we shall treat soon but not in this article.

9. Ensure your supplier has the necessary compliance certifications as required by your home country.
Certifications (like SONCAP, ISO, CE, ROHS etc. ) are very important when buying wholesale from china.

Other than all this, your thinking you should be limitless.

You’re to explore as much as possible products that comes to your mind. Also, look into your local market and see what you think people will buy giving a fair price than what they already have on ground.

Don't mind me jare ,told you all that so as to defend myself and to appeal for your apology. Now to today's business,kindly follow me.

There are a few things you need to know before starting to import from china.


IMPORTING FROM CHINA TO NIGERIA

1. Don’t think of buying government controlled commodities like silver, gold, diamonds, etc. unless you’re licensed to do so.

Don’t be too wise in yourself, ask questions, and involve yourself in endless research before you finally conclude on the type of product to import.

2. Always refer to the import prohibition list on the Nigeria custom authority’s website. Always check that your product is not in the import prohibition list, you wouldn’t want to lose your money to the customs or worse be accused of illegal trading.

3. Make sure it’s small and light weighted

I can’t imagine some people thinking of importing school furniture, bed frames, sofa chairs etc.
How about shipping?

Always think of products that are lightweight, generally easy to ship so as not to lose all your would-be profits on shipping.

This can only be done in cases when you’re pre-ordering for a client, and your client knowing well that they are in place to borne all the cost involved. I’ve bought a washing machine for one of my client in the past, I pointed him to attractive local deals, but he insisted on getting the washing machine from the US.

It’s not that you can’t import any product so far it’s dutiable, but you should do your homework on what the LANDING COST of the product to your final consumers will be like.

Profits can only be made with such products a very large quantity is involved; maybe container loads, which will be very capital intensive; and a very large capital will be invested to make tangible profit.

4. Think of products that will give you more goods per dollar invested.
Another rule that applies in the wholesale world is, ‘the larger the quantity ordered, the lower the price per item/good’ and the ‘larger the quantity shipped the cheaper the price per kilo/kg’

The price per commodity of your goods should be between 0 to $100; in my own experience, anything costlier than this appears to be more capital intensive and makes you open to more risk.

Costlier products will require higher quality monitoring, high shipping rate and can make you vulnerable to mistakes. I advise you stay in this price range, as I am yet to find serious profit outside of that price range, but of course, it’s your call!

5. Make sure the product’s quality and durability can easily be determined.
