Maybe someone needs to know how many patrol vehicles and bullet-proof vests that banks have been purchasing for the use of Police Force in Nigeria. At least we see them on the road. I am not talking about policemen on specie movement, but regular police patrol being funded by private companies through their Corpoate Social Responsibility. But in terms of ChannelsTV performing its CSR - it becomes unbearable for the 'oga at the top' |
A pastor and director of Light of Hope Orphanage at Akute, Ogun State, identified simply as Mr. Atunde, was on Wednesday arrested by policemen from Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos State for allegedly raping two minors at his orphanage. PUNCH Metro learnt that Zone 2 began investigating Atunde after receiving a petition from Project Alert against him. Project Alert, a non-governmental organisation, said the petition was prompted by a teacher of the school which the minors attended. One of the minors (name withheld) had allegedly showed up at school in March with blood dripping down her legs. When questioned by school officials, the minor claimed that Atunde had had sex with her. Project Alert programme officer, Tobi Asekun, said, “It was the school that brought the case to us. This is not the first time that we have received complaints against Tunde’s activities. “Last year, one of his neighbours came to us making the same complaints but no one could take action because we needed his victims to confirm the claim. “So when this case was brought to our attention, we wrote a petition to Zone 2 command,” It was learnt that plain-clothes officers from Zone 2 had visited the school and spoken with the minors who are aged 13 and 14 years before picking up Atunde from the orphanage which also doubles as his family home. The orphanage, a large one-storey building housing about 12 rooms, is said to have been functioning since 1996. Currently about 22 children live at the orphanage, most of whom were male and female minors. Another 11 orphans were said to be running various programmes in a private University with their expenses being paid by the orphanage. A total of 79 children are allegedly being cared for by the orphanage, which is registered with the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs. The Zone’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Balogun, confirmed Atunde’s arrest. He said, “Atunde has been arrested. We will have more details by tomorrow.” http://www.punchng.com/news/pastor-accused-of-raping-minors-at-orphanage/ |

Notwithstanding that banks get profit thru charges. It must be said that the charges must be moderate. At least the charges should not discourage customers from banking. |
CBN Cancels N100 Monthly ATM Maintenance Fee - The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced the cancellation of the N100 monthly Automatic Teller Machine card maintenance fee introduced by some banks recently and which generated public condemnation. The CBN in a circular titled, ‘Revised guide to bank charges,’ posted on its website, however, pegged the maintenance fee at N100 annually. Also affected is the mandatory cost of Short Message Service alert which has been pegged at N4 subject to the Nigerian Communication Commission’s directives. The circular, which takes effect from April 1, read, “In order to reflect current developments in the market and provide clarity on banking terms, the CBN recently conducted a review of the guide in consultation with all the banks and discount houses, Bankers’ Committee, financial experts and also considered inputs received from other stakeholders to produce the revised guide to bank charges.” On electronic transfer, the bank said N70 would be charged on transactions below N500,000 while N100 should be charged on transactions between N500,000 and N1m. Transactions above N1m will attract a charge of N500. It said issuing fee of a debit card should exceed N1,000, while international withdrawals per transaction on debit cards should be charged at N240 rather than N1,000 being currently charged by almost all the banks. The CBN pegged the interest on savings deposit accounts at a minimum of 30 per cent of the Monetary Policy Rate per annum. It would be recalled that following the Bankers’ Committee meeting in November 2012 which scrapped the N100 interbank charge on the use of ATM cards, some banks went ahead to introduce the N100 monthly maintenance fee on ATM cards... http:///U2slmT |
Someone tell me, where is safe in Nigeria? |
Fear gripped many residents of Lagos on Thursday when news filtered in that troops numbering about 100 stormed terror suspects’ hideouts in Ijora, a densely populated part of the city. The soldiers, who were assisted by men of the State Security Service, were believed to have acted on a tip-off. They were said to have arrived in the area around 7am in search of the suspects said to be members of an Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram. It was learnt that their search yielded fruits when two persons were arrested at 24 Aromire Street and three others at a location in an adjacent street. The soldiers then ransacked the building at Aromire Street where one of the arrested persons, Ibrahim Musa, occupies five rooms. A bomb kept in a cooler and hidden inside the ceiling of one of the rooms in Musa’s apartment was recovered by the soldiers. Musa, who a security source described as an illegal alien from Chad, was said to be leader of the suspects. Other items found were AK-47 rifles, cartridges and daggers. The security source, who craved anonymity, added the raid was as a result of an investigation which began a month ago. He said, “Security agents got information a month ago that there was a terrorist hideout in the Seven-Up area of Ijora. Although we were not sure if they were Boko Haram members or not, we did not want to take any chances so we decided to go and raid the place. “It was discovered that the place was being run by a Chadian and arms were recovered during the raid, including AK-47 riffles. Investigations are ongoing and those who are found not culpable will be released.” Musa’s neighbour, who craved anonymity, told one of our correspondents that they did not suspect he was a member of Boko Haram. He said the suspect moved into the house less than three months ago. “Musa rented his apartment about three months ago. However, since he moved in with his wife, who recently had a baby and a brother, none of them had any known form of livelihood. Musa and his brother, particularly were always going about with their laptops and expensive phones. “Though he (Musa) was not working, he was usually the first to pay for anything in the house. It was when the soldiers came that we got to know what they truly are. It was in the course of beating him (Musa) that he told the soldiers where he hid the bomb and guns.” Another resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Olu, said that when the suspects were being taken away by the soldiers “we did not know they were living here.” “When soldiers were taking them away, we wondered if they were living in the neighbourhood. It was my neighbour, who told me he had seen Musa once or twice,” he said. Olu said when the soldiers were going, they told them to be vigilant in the area, saying Boko Haram members had infiltrated the area, particularly the Hausa settlement. When one of our correspondents met the Ojora of Ijora , Oba Fatai Adeyinka, he said he was shocked that Boko Haram members had infiltrated the area. The spokesman for the Army 81 Division, Colonel Kingsley Umoh, confirmed the raid but said the army had been carrying out constant raids across the state in response to the rising level of insecurity in the country. Umoh said over 36 people had been arrested recently. He however said he had yet to receive the details of Thursday’s operation. He said, “The Nigerian Army is carrying out a proactive approach. We are raiding every nook and cranny of the state in order to rid it of criminal elements. We are not ignorant of the insecurity in the country so we are carrying out preventive measures and we want to make sure that Lagos is safe for all its inhabitants. “The raids have been in collaboration with sister agencies like the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the SSS, the police and others. It is the OP MESA of the army that is at the forefront of the raids and we have recorded many successes of late as we have also arrested some soldiers who were found wanting. “I will not be able to brief you fully about Thursday’s raid.” Lagos State Director, SSS, Achu Olayi, also confirmed the raid but said that it was too soon for him to say if the suspects were Boko Haram members or not. The raid on Thursday on the predominantly Hausa settlement came a month after the SSS uncovered a terror network coordinated by Iranians in Lagos. The SSS had said while parading a leader of an Islamic sect, Abdullahi Berende, and two others that they believed that the operators of the Iranian terror cell were gathering information about Israelis and Americans living in Nigeria. London: The childhood sweetheart of Pope Francis has revealed that she had been forced to reject his marriage offer in youth, a move which eventually led him to devote his life to God. The woman, known as Amalia, said that when Jorge Mario Bergoglio was young, they were both just 12 years old in the Buenos Aires suburb of Flores, declared that ‘he would devote his life to God if he couldn’t marry her’. However on Thursday, speaking from her home in Flores, an emotional Amalia said that the ‘romance’ did not prosper because of the opposition of her parents. María Elena Bergoglio, 12 years the junior of the 76-year-old pontiff, said he never wanted to be pope and now faced a lifetime of ‘infinite loneliness’. According to the Telegraph, she conceded that ‘having a brother who is a pope is a blessing from God’. She said that it was a historic moment, as he is the first non-European pope, the first Latin American and the first Argentinian’. Bergoglio said that she never knew anything about his young love life. Amalia added that she has nothing to hide, as it was a thing between children and totally pure. "Africans do not have the required experience yet to produce a Pope.” —Monsignor Georg Ratzinger (Elder brother to Pope Benedict XV1) The Christian Holy Book tells us that Saint Peter, sometimes referred to as Simon Peter, was a fisherman and one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. He was also the first Bishop of Rome (Pope). He is well-regarded within Christian tradition. In the 2000 years history of the Catholic Church, there have been some 265 popes. While a dozen or so were in office for 20-plus years, others lasted mere days and or weeks. Geographically, Africa has produced three popes. The 14th pope, Victor I (189-199 A.D.) was said to be from North Africa. And while the 32nd pope, Miltiades (311-314 A.D.), and the 49th pope, Gelasius I (492-496 A.D.) were born in Rome – both had North African ancestry. But racially, the continent has yet to produce a Pope. And it is not likely to produce one anytime within the next 100 years. The papacy, after all, is a European institution – an institution dominated, almost exclusively, by the Italians. From the moment Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation, speculations began to whirl about whether or not “the time is here and now” for a pope to come out of sub-Saharan Africa. On the list of the favoured are Francis Cardinal Arinze, and Peter Cardinal Turkson. A lot has been written about the former, but not the later. Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson is a Ghanaian who was ordained to the priesthood in July 1975, and was appointed spokesman for the Second Synod for Africa in 2009. He is the current president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. The PCJP is concerned, first and foremost, with issues of peace, justice, and human rights as seen through the sensibility of the Vatican. Cardinals Arinze and Turkson have what it takes to be the next pope. But don’t hold your breath: neither men will be elected. The odds do not favour them. Ordinarily, any Catholic male who has reached the age of reason, but not yet passed age 80, can be elected pope. In reality, however, only ordained male priests can be electors and with the power to select the pope. What’s more, there are other rules and traditions that come into play when electing a pope. It is these “rules and tradition and bigotry” that make it difficult, if not impossible, for a black priest or cardinal, to emerge a pope. Not now, anyway. For those who are in doubt, Monsignor Georg Ratzinger (elder brother to Pope Benedict), already made it clear, unambiguously clear that “Africans do not have the required experience yet to produce a Pope.” He is not a layman. He is an insider. A deep-throat, if you will. Sixty years of priesthood has taught and convinced Georg Ratzinger (an ordained Catholic priest since 1951), that Africans are not ready for global leadership vis-a-vis the papacy. Many of the Church’s early and significant members from the first century were Africans. Back then, the Church had four patriarchates: Jerusalem; Constantinople; Antioch; and Alexandria. Today, there is an estimated 170 million Catholics in Africa with a sizeable number of priests, cardinals, and catechists. Yet – yet – these are not enough for the Vatican and its network and for the likes of Georg Ratzinger to consider and elect a black pope. No African cardinal or priest is knowledgeable and advanced enough to be a pope. Africans have invested untold amount of resources in the Catholic Church, yet, their investment is, according to the likes of Ratzinger, not buoyant enough for the top spot. It is all politics, folks: politics, prejudice and insincerity. Nothing more! In a way, I commend Georg Ratzinger for voicing the “inner thought and feeling” of the Church’s hierarchy. And as Benedict XVI’s elder brother, it is likely that he was also voicing the Pope Emeritus’ view on the matter. The selection/election will be man’s doing; not God’s! As of today, the top contenders for the Bishop of Rome (Pope) are Cardinal Angelo Scola (71, Italy); Cardinal Peter Turkson (64, Ghana); Cardinal Marc Ouellet (68, Canada); Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco (70, Italy); Cardinal Francis Arinze (80, Nigeria); Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone (78, Italy); Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi (70, Italy); Cardinal Leonardo Sandri (69, Argentina); Cardinal Odilo Scherer (63, Brazil); Cardinal Claudio Hummes (78, Brazil); Cardinal Claudio Hummes (78, Brazil); Cardinal Christoph Schönborn (68, Austria); and Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith (65, Sri Lanka). Again, the selection/election process will be man’s doing; not God’s! And these men have decided that “Africans do not have the required experience yet to produce a Pope.” What experience is Georg Ratzinger alluding to? How to speak Latin or Italian, or how to walk in those red shoes? I don’t blame Georg Ratzinger and his type. I really don’t! After all, it was the Africans who rejected and abandoned their ancestral gods – the most original and authentic of all gods — for the white man’s god. For centuries, the Vatican has been looking down on Africans with pity and disdain; and treating them like slow-developing children who are incapable of complicated and uncomplicated tasks. And indeed, other religious denominations and sects also look down on Africans. The basic problem of many Africans is that most are fools, imitators, and are always seeking approval from outside. No one is going to treat us with respect when we disown our own gods, myth, history, and traditions. No one! Their gods are not better than ours! Africans had their own creation stories; and so did every “traditional society” on the face of the earth. Silly Africans, they condemned their own stories and belief system and then wholly adopted the stories from the Middle East (Islam and Christianity). We have forgotten that everything – everything – points to and confirms Africa as the beginning of mankind. We had our own creation stories, had our own gods, and had our own survival mechanism. For thousands of years, we survived. The biggest calamity which has befallen, and which will eventually destroy Africa and its people are Islam and Christianity. And any other imported religion and gods and belief systems. John Henrik Clarke was infinitely right when he said, “Anytime you turn on your own concept of God, you are no longer a free man. No one needs to put chains on your body, because the chains are on your mind.” The Church, especially, is destroying our mind and our continent. Please read if you eat shrimps - Very Educative: A woman suddenly died unexpectedly with signs of bleeding from her ears, nose, mouth & eyes. After a preliminary autopsy it was diagnosed that death was due to arsenic poisoning. Where did the arsenic come from? The police launched an in-depth and extensive investigation. A medical school professor was invited to come to solve the case. The professor carefully looked at the contents. In less than half an hour, the mystery was solved. The professor said: 'The deceased did not commit suicide and neither was she murdered, she died of accidental death due to ignorance!' Everyone was puzzled, why accidental death? The professor said: 'The arsenic was produced in the stomach of the deceased.' The deceased used to take 'Vitamin C' everyday, which in itself is not a problem. The problem was that she ate a large portion of shrimp/prawn during dinner. Eating shrimp/prawn is not the problem that's why nothing happened to her family even though they had the same shrimp/prawn. However at the same time the deceased also took 'vitamin C', that is where the problem was! Researchers at the University of Chicago in the United States , found through experiments, food such as soft-shell contain much higher concentration of five potassium arsenic compounds. Such fresh food by itself has no toxic effects on the human body. However, in taking 'vitamin C', chemical reaction occurs and the original non-toxic elements change to toxic elements. Arsenic poisoning has magma role and can cause paralysis to the small blood vessels. Therefore, a person who dies of arsenic poisoning will show signs of bleeding from the ears, nose, mouth & eyes. Thus as a precautionary measure, DO NOT eat shrimp/prawn when taking 'vitamin C'. http://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=176951655780825&set=a.118410748301583.20932.100003979759803&type=1&refsrc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphoto.php&_rdr After reading this; please do not be stingy. Its our duty to take care of our friends.

Yomieluv: A saving account will attract interest rate when withdrawal isn't more than 3 times in a month(I stand to be corrected),otherwise it will be treated like current account. That's quite true. When a savings account customer makes 3 or more withdrawals in a calender month, such customer losses the holding right of accrued savings interest for that month. The rational is this: Savings ought be kept as savings while a working float account be. It is believed that when a savings fund is drawn beyond a certain limit, it is not worthy to be classified as savings but as 'float'. SMS alerts are optional. |
