PoliticsNo Protest In Abia - Governor Alex Otti (Video) by abc115(op): 5:01pm On Jul 30, 2024
It's official. NO PROTEST in Abia state- Alex Otti

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTUoCA3-a3I?si=bzLJ4Q9_kTDbN-HZ

Some economic policies of the federal government, including the removal of the fuel subsidy, may not have yet produced the desired results as initially intended, but I urge our youths to pursue peaceful means to express their grievances rather than resorting to violence.

What Abians need now is a strong sense of peace and sustained development, not chaos.

Our administration has made significant investments in infrastructure in Aba and Umuahia, and such infrastructure should be protected from those who may attempt to hijack the protest and cause mayhem.

Abia State civil servants have received the April tranche of the Wage Award, as promised by our administration, among other commitments. Therefore, I plead with Abia people to shun violence.

PoliticsRe: BREAKING: Tinubu Orders NNPC To Sell Crude To Dangote Refinery In Naira by abc115(op): 4:35pm On Jul 29, 2024
Like I pointed out previously.

Two main issues with Dangote refinery.

-Pricing
-Competition with NNPC for market share.

What the government has done with this is use one stone to kill two birds.

With a pegged “Naira to dollar rate” and only between “NNPC and Dangote” , the government has decided to subsidize PMS and also take away the leverage of subsidy from NNPC.

Should NNPC refinery ever work, it will be sold at almost the same price as Dangote

PoliticsWhy I Will Not Join The Planned National Protest by abc115(op):
WHY I WILL NOT JOIN THE PLANNED NATIONAL PROTEST.

Nigeria's problems are fundamentals. No man can lead Nigeria with these fundamentals in place.

1. He came and removed petroleum subsidy. The previous government was borrowing to fund it, and the nation was at the brisk of collapse because we were not only subsidizing for Nigerians but for the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.

Today, after subsidy removal our fuel import is down by 51.4%. Subsidy cabals are not happy with him.

2. He floated the Naira so that market forces would determine the actual rate.
Currency racketeers are not happy with him. This alone comes with some harsh economic realities.

3. Flying from next door Benin Republic to Europe or America used to be half the price the same airlines charge in Nigeria, this is because those airlines pay
"royalties" to vested interests, especially those that helped to kill Nigerian Airways for these airlines to dominate our sky. He brought in Airpeace against all odds to crash the price and these untouchable airlines were forced to crash their fares. Those vested interests who
fed from the fare excesses in Nigeria, will not like him.
4. He dares almighty governors, to give you local government autonomy, a man who doesn't have the people at heart will never do that.
5. The war in Ukraine has disrupted the supply chain of wheat and fertilizers. This and the current harsh global economic realities of which Nigeria is not in isolation, are hitting us hard and Nigeria is far better compared to other African countries.
When UAE was using oil money to build Dubai, your fathers and uncles were burning down Kaduna, Kano, Jos, Maiduguri etc. Today, you want Nigeria to be like "Dubai".

When Russia was laying petroleum pipelines to dominate Europe's oil markets,
, your fathers and uncles were bursting pipelines across Nigeria. Their actions crippled NNPC depots across Nigeria. This is how tankers took over our roads.

Your fathers killed our refineries, destroyed our textile industries, ate our national airline to extintion,

and looted our treasury over four decades that took life out of our capability to produce. Today you are shouting Tinubu.

Nigeria's problem didn't start overnight and no "ariaria overnight" approach can take us out.
He gave your governor money and even more money, but you choose to face him.

The cost of goods is alarming, and it is your right to peaceful protest, to voice your frustrations. But when "your peaceful protest" is being hijacked by elements loyal to either oil cabals, currency
racketeers, political interests, or any other vested interests, we may have no option than to storm the street in a counter-protest, because so far, the man is taking life out of fundamentalideals that have clogged our wheel of progress over several decades.
May President Tinubu Succeed!
The Best President in the history of Nigeria
God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria!

PoliticsLagos Students Shun National Protest, Plan Solidarity Walk by abc115(op): 9:52pm On Jul 23, 2024
Students of some tertiary institutions in Lagos State have said rather than joining a nationwide protest scheduled for August 1 to 10, they have resolved to embark on a solidarity walk in support of the state government on the same day.

The students on Tuesday distanced themselves from the planned national protest by some Nigerians, tagged ‘#EndBad Governance in Nigeria,’ to draw the attention of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the plight of Nigerians, hunger, and rising cost of living in the country.

The students, under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Lagos, said the “Solidarity Walk” would be held to support and encourage the government of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who they said has been of great support to them.

Speaking to journalists during a press conference at the Lagos State University College of Medicine, Ikeja, after a joint meeting, student leaders across tertiary institutions in Lagos State said their solidarity walk would also be held from August 1 to 10 to drum for peace, especially to ensure that the ugly incident of #EndSARS” of 2020 does not repeat itself.

The chairman, NANS, Lagos axis, Lekan Alimi, who addressed journalists on behalf of the students of various tertiary institutions in the state, described the planned nationwide protests against hardship in the country as “absolutely uncalled for.”

Alimi, flanked by the President of the National Association of Lagos State Students, Hafiz Olufowobi; chairman, National Association of University Students (Lagos Chapter), Miracle Yemoh; Assistant General Secretary (South-West), National Association of Polytechnic Students, Zainab Yakub; Chairman, National Female Students Association of Nigeria (Lagos Chapter), Titilayo Ekindayo; and Presidents of the Students Union of tertiary institutions in the state, said rather than joining the protest, students would prefer constructive dialogue with governments in achieving collective goals.

While noting that the trying times in the country would soon fade out, Akoni appealed to Nigerians to persevere a little more to enjoy the dividends of democracy of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He said, “In these trying times, it is crucial that we remember the importance of stability, peace, and constructive dialogue in achieving our collective goals. Given these significant contributions and the progress we have witnessed, we strongly state that we are not in support of any protest against the government of Lagos.

“We understand the frustrations and challenges faced by many, but we must also recognise the advancements and opportunities that have been provided to cushion the economic effect of the nation, and we hope other states can emulate the Lagos State Government.

“We cannot afford to let the destructive events of the past, such as the EndSARS protests, repeat themselves. Our priority is to defend and preserve the peace and prosperity of Lagos. “

He urged all students to channel their energies into constructive dialogue and positive action, such as volunteering for community development projects, participating in student-government initiatives, and engaging in academic and extracurricular activities that promote excellence.

He added that “We believe that with time, patience, and continued collaboration with the government, we will see further improvements and solutions to the issues we face. Let us stand together in unity and purpose, ensuring that our actions reflect our commitment to a better future for all.

“As a demonstration of our support for the Lagos State Government and our commitment to peace and stability, we announce our intention to hold a Solidarity Walk in support of the government.

“We plan to hold this walk from the 1st to the 10th of August, 2024, coinciding with the proposed dates of a planned protest by some unknown individuals. We will not let the voices of discord and destruction drown out our message of unity and progress.

“We invite all students, youth organizations, and well-meaning citizens to join us on this walk as we show our appreciation for the government’s efforts and our commitment to a brighter future for Lagos. Together, we can make a difference!”

Alimi, while declaring students’ support for Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration, expressed their readiness to protect Lagos from another #EndSARS saga in the name protest proposed to commence next month.

He said: “After extensive deliberations, we have come in unison and in one voice to say ‘Thank You Lagos’ for being prompt and responsive to many needs of the people through the THEMES+ agenda.

“It is also important to note that the Governor has maintained open lines of communication with student leaders, as evidenced by the recent parley with Mr. Governor. This ongoing engagement highlights a genuine interest in addressing our concerns and finding solutions that benefit us all.

“The Lagos State Government has prioritised education in its agenda, leading to the establishment of new schools, namely: Lagos State University of Education, Oto-Ijanikin with a campus in Epe; Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu; and proper and prompt funding of all existing ones with upgrades in their infrastructures; and the introduction of innovative teaching methods. These investments are empowering our young people with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.

He acknowledged what he said was “the tremendous efforts of the Governor of Lagos State”, who according to him “has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the student constituency.

“From the increment of bursaries and scholarships to the generous donation of buses to all tertiary institutions in Lagos, including the NANS Aluta bus, the Governor has shown that he values and supports the growth and development of students in our state.

“Additionally, the employment and job opportunities extended to some student leaders across the state are a testament to his dedication to our future. The recent appointment of student leaders to key positions in the Lagos State government, such as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Tertiary Education, Secondary and Basic Education, and Vocational and Technical Board, demonstrates his willingness and commitment to involve students in the decision-making process of the state.

“Also, in Secondary and Basic Education, N1,571,076,000 was approved as registration fees and other sundry costs for 58,188 SS3 students writing the West Africa School Certificate Examination; 18,912 Mobile Learning Devices were distributed to SS2 students across the six education districts in the state. Scholarships and bursaries for students of Lagos State origin in tertiary institutions have been significantly increased.”

Also speaking, Chairman, National Female Students Association of Nigeria (Lagos chapter), Ekindayo, said female students in Lagos State will shun any form of protest.

“Lagos has been in peace and will continue to be in peace. We students are saying no to protest in Lagos State. We appreciate Governor Sanwo-Olu for giving opportunities to women in the state, and we female students will shun any form of protest,” she said.

Olufowobi, said Governor Sanwo-Olu has done a lot in Lagos State; therefore, there is no basis to embark on a national protest in the state.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu has tried his best to ease hardship on students across Lagos State. We are not in support of any protest. This is our state, and we don’t have where to go if #EndSARS happens again. We are saying no to protest in my state,” he said.

💥 *If you are going to join any protest next week or so ever, it is good but ask yourself these questions:*

1. Why is Lagos always their target? How about starting from your state?

2. Why do we even leave federal capital and focus on Lagos?

3. Is President, Senate president and Speaker the owner of those targeted industries and hubs in Lagos?

4. Where would those who lost their jobs to the burnt factories, industries and businesses during the protest start from?

5. Do you know Shoprite Stores at Lekki, Adeniran Ogunsanya, Awoyaya were completely looted and burnt in the wake of the EndSars protest but Computer Village was spared from all the destructions? Think deeply.

6. while BRT buses at Ojota and Ebutte Metta were burnt, none of the luxurious buses at Yaba & Jibowu, traveling to the Eastern region was destroyed.

* Terrorism is currently on going in South East, where their people are forced to sit down at home every Monday, no protest about that.
* Some of their children missed WAEC exams , in the name of sir at home, no protest about that
* Four out of their five governors are still paying #18k minimum wage, no protest about that.
* Businesses are collapsing because of sit at home, no protest about that
* Weddings and burial are being done outside their region, instead of home, no protest about that.
* They pay IPOB millions of dues before they can have anything or ceremony done in their region, no protest about that.

*Be a good Nigerian, be positive and wise in your thinking .*

*Don't be a destroyer of the little good things we have*

*May God assist us to fix Nigeria*🙏🤲

Hold your Representatives responsible and leave Government properties alone…

This is a great message! It's important to hold elected representatives accountable for their actions and decisions, and to respect government properties and public spaces.

Holding representatives accountable means:

- Since you Voted responsibly You have a right to ask them questions
- Attending town hall meetings and speaking up
- Contacting representatives with concerns and opinions
- Demanding transparency and accountability

And When I say leave government properties alone means:

- Respecting public buildings and spaces

- Not vandalizing or damaging property

- Following rules and regulations

- Keeping public areas clean and safe

By doing so, we can contribute to a more responsible and respectful community!

*Please be warned. Leave Lagos out if your plan 🧏‍♀️*

Any bastards joining children of hatred against Nigeria will be treated the same.

Foreign AffairsTrump Flops Another Convention Speech by abc115(op): 3:34pm On Jul 19, 2024
JONATHAN BERNSTEIN, DAVID S. BERNSTEIN, AND JULIA AZARI
JUL 19, 2024

I was able to get a media pass and get in the convention hall tonight, and I’m glad I did, because I don’t think I would really believe that speech if I just read about it. I knew Trump would talk about himself a lot, because everyone else at the convention has, and about the shooting a lot. The pivot from “we need to turn down the temperature of the rhetoric” to “God intervened to save Trump” has been swift, at least in RNC-land.

Type your email...
Subscribe
But what followed was… what? I’m not much of one for theater criticism of political speeches, unpopular a choice though that may be in recent weeks. And as David points out, Trump has just suffered a traumatic event. I wouldn’t want to give a speech under those circumstances. No question. But Trump did, moving from topic to topic, sometimes without pausing. His delivery was monotone, and even the energy lines weren’t energetic. The crowd went wild for the “drill baby drill” line I think because they were looking for something to rev them up. People were nodding off in the alternates section next to me. I have been to statistics lectures with more verve.

The convention speech is for the people in the hall, but part of the idea is to pivot to the general election. Much of the convention has been dedicated to talking about Trump as a person – a father and grandfather, seemingly aimed at character issues and the recent felony convictions in New York. A reintroduction of sorts. But the speech might have made that job harder, because it was just so difficult to follow and there was so little there for a national audience.

One of my ideas about Trump as a party leader is that he leads by dilemma: he constantly puts other Republicans in the position of defending things they would rather not, which exerts power over them while also exhausting skeptical allies and thinning the ranks. A convention speech is pretty minor, but it might present one more such dilemma.

[Here’s David:]

Having done some journalism that involved speaking with many victims of gun violence and experts on gun victimization, I tend to think that it’s a very bad idea for anybody to return to work less than a week after suffering a highly traumatic violent gun assault. Perhaps ease back in; certainly avoid the most high-pressure tasks—particularly in situations that might carry similarities to the events surrounding the attack.

I’m not saying that this is what triggered Donald Trump’s odd reversion into rally-speak mode on stage Thursday night in Milwaukee. I certainly can’t untangle the thickets of his subconscious. I’m just saying—and have been privately grumbling all week—that somebody should have somehow put a stop to this. It’s not super-manly and tough and lion-hearted to pump your fist and charge forward with life-as-usual right after getting shot in the head. It’s reckless and unhealthy.

But here we were. Trump clearly intended to deliver a different kind of speech than he did. He and his campaign are (understandably) very confident with their position, and wanted to do nothing on national TV to jeopardize that. It was widely reported that, after the assassination attempt, Trump himself decided his convention speech should be softer, more unifying, less insulting. The speech as written reflects that.

But he couldn’t do it. He got through the (overly long) opening section, in which he publicly relived his literal near-death experience of five days earlier (again, not recommended), but even during that part he began to take on the distinctive flat, rhythmic, inflection-free tone and cadence of his rally teleprompter reading. He reads like an actor scanning lines to prompt himself about the next monologue; when he recognizes his cue, he almost literally cuts himself off to launch into the appropriate riff.

Those riffs—which in many cases he was doing almost word-for-word from what I’ve watched in his recent rallies (always televised and streamed in the right-wing marketplace)—are for the benefit and reaction of the audience in front of him. I think in the convention hall, following his somber opening segment, his written speech was unable to rejuvenate that crowd, and he instinctively switched into rally mode to get them going. He seemed, to me, to become almost entirely unaware of the televised audience. He was entirely focused on getting the people in front of him to hoot and laugh and roar.

And he knows which bits do that, like a veteran stand-up comedian does. And it’s the material that he wasn’t going to do on national TV: crazy Nancy Pelosi; countries emptying their insane asylums to send Hannibal Lecters across America’s borders; Democrats using COVID to cheat in the 2020 election; the “China virus”; weaponizing the justice system. And always, presenting himself and his followers as victims of cruel and evil Democrats.

Whatever led to it, the speech was a troubling performance to watch. And definitely not what the campaign intended.

[And here’s Jonathan:]

Beyond agreeing with everything my colleagues said, my quick take reaction to Trump’s convention speech is pretty much the same reaction I always have to him. Outside of that he’s running as an authoritarian, outside of his crimes and his history of sexual assault, outside of that he doesn’t believe in the rule of law, and outside of the other ways that he’s massively unsuited for the presidency: This guy also knows nothing about government and policy.

Now, George W. Bush was massively underqualified when he became president, and it was harmful to his presidency and to the nation. But W. wasn’t a stupid guy, and he really did improve over the course of eight years. Trump if anything goes backwards. Bush treated setbacks as setbacks and tried to learn from them; Trump treats everything he does as a massive victory, ignores any evidence to the contrary, and just bulls (and bullies) his way ahead, never learning from anything.

At any rate, it takes some real initiative to botch a convention acceptance speech, and Trump has now done it three times, with the third time being the worst.

PoliticsPhillip Shaibu's Full Security Details Have Been Reinstated by abc115(op): 3:33pm On Jul 18, 2024
The security details of the impeached deputy governor of Edo State, Phillip Shaibu, have been reinstated, paving the way for his official return to duty.

This development comes on the heels of a judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, declaring Shaibu’s impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly as illegal, unconstitutional, null, and void.

The court’s verdict, delivered on Wednesday, upheld that the impeachment process violated sections 188 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Consequently, the court ordered the restoration of Shaibu’s salaries and allowances, effective from April, when his impeachment took effect.

Additionally, a perpetual injunction was issued, restraining Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Edo State House of Assembly from hindering Shaibu’s performance of his duties.

The court directed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to restore his security details.

It should be noted that Shaibu and Governor Obaseki have had a long-drawn battle, which culminated in a decision by state lawmakers to impeach the deputy governor on grounds of disclosing government secrets.

The seven-man panel set up by the Edo State Assembly had three months ago, found Shaibu guilty and recommended his impeachment.
