Olanifesi: The scholars of al islam explained this sural tul taobah that when the country in an islamic state, ie if the leaders like the president and others are muslims. Like Saudi Arabia. This means that Islam will be the most practising religion before the ruling of the sural can be applied.Errm...I don't think Saudi is an Islamic state. A Khalif is needed to make an Islamic state and we have none at the moment. |

Fighting, my friend, is to be embraced when it is inevitable. This did David, Solomon and the Israelites do in order to survive in their own time. He S.A.W was not a paedophile. What you consider paedophilia now was not 1500 years ago. He S.A.W did not die at war. We don't preach vengeance and hatred, we preach Justice and Peace. |
mr.official2:Just may be a little too late then. ![]() |
Jazakumullahu khayran. Nice piece. Not many couples follow these rules nowadays. Hope this changes how some men treat their wives and vice-versa. |
m.k.o2005:Sura 4:101: And when you travel throughout the land, there is no blame upon you for shortening the prayer, [especially] if you fear that those who disbelieve may disrupt [or attack] you. Indeed, the disbelievers are ever to you a clear enemy. (Self explanatory) For Surah 9:5, The Muslims were in no position to negotiate. The pagans were giving them the option of either leaving Islam or face death. The Muslims chose to fight them...that isn't so bad, is it? I don't think it is written anywhere that you can't fight for your life. More so during war time, you don't expect Allah to tell the Muslims to wait until they got massacred by their enemies hence, the verses you quoted above were revealed. Sura 9:39 You don't think it is in the interest of a people when some run from the battle ground while others fight for the survival of the same people. Allah doesn't like cowardice and so He encouraged Muslims to fight or be killed through other means. BOTTOMLINE: Death is inevitable, run from war or go to war, you will die....probably before those who go to war. Sura 9:81 ...is true.. Sura 22:78 ...Yes and there was a reward for that. They were at war!!! Sura 48:29 ..were the unbelievers nice to them? Sura 6:152 ...wrong quotation... Sura 61:3 ...of course, who wouldn't love those who fight in his or her cause. Sura 5:34 ...has nothing to do with renouncing Islam... Perfect your questions so that they can be addressed better. All the misquotations were discouraging. PS: God commanded the Israelites to fight also, I can remember reading where David decapitated Goliath but we hear nothing about all that. |
tomakint: You are still dodging the issue at stake that there is a strong nexus between Islam and Violence and I need answersLike the growth of every other empire, they were bound to either expand their empire or be subdued by another empire or enemies. The Roman empire did it, so did the Germans, Persians, Ethiopians; even the Oyo empire did it. Were they inspired by their religions which was not Islam? NO! Islam was spread by adequate teachings of the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Where there were forces willing to kill Muslims for what they believed in, Muslims would defend themselves or risk extermination. I like to put it this way: Muslims extended peace but their enemies extended violence thereby giving the Muslims no choice other than to fight for their lives. The fights in Syria is to oust a leader who has no feelings towards his people, a tyrant whose people have tolerated enough. They are not cowards who celebrate mediocrity like we do here and that is why they revolted (albeit I don't support revolution). Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the like are being forced to be ruled by leaders and a system that they are opposed to by foreigners (USA). They say they don't want to be slaves on their own land again and that the USA should leave them to run their affairs but you call them terrorists just because they oppose tyranny. The fights all these countries are fighting can be likened to the fights the Zulus fought against British rule over them. |
Abagworo: A borehole costs at least 5million in Ideato if you are lucky it might take a few weeks or months. In Owerri or Port Harcourt, it costs 60k and it takes a few hours. What an irony....and I bet the state can't afford 5 million naira. |
tomakint: ....and what did the 'real boko haram led by Yusuf' did then that was different from what these current boko harams are doing?Oh please. Human beings were wild at one point in time. Has that wildness manifested itself in us now? No! Wildness is not hereditary and it is misplaced to connect it to recent events. |
deliveryboy: I totally agree with Soyinka on this, you are only trying to associate Islam with violence when you know that that there are more cases of violent killings in the christian dominated southern Nigeria, I did my national youth service in the east and one always woke up to see dead bodies in the streets of Aba, so is Onisha, people still kill and use clay to bake human flesh in most parts of the eastern Nig. Anambra and Akwa Ibom states had the highest murder cases(both 70% of national murder cases), Ezu river bodies were not likely to have been dumped by muslims, neither was Alu community a muslim community, life has little or no value in these areas, just that you pple are masters of conceal, rather u focus on other ppl to hide your flaws. Besides the bible is still d book with most violent stories of ravages I've read so far.Hmm....a revelation. |
m.k.o2005:Don't kill. You can always look at the assailant in admiration until he kills you. Jokes apart, if you cherish your life, you should do anything to stay alive even if you have to kill someone who wants to kill you. That is 'self defence'. |
maclatunji: At bolded, we know. Read this:Don't mind them. They know that Muslims are not spiritually attached to the stone. They just derive pleasure in faulting Islam. |
shymexx: The sun is actually better for calculating time... When the sun rises, you know what period of the day it is... When it sets, you also know what period of the say it is... The sun also shows the seasons in every year - it enables you to know if it's winter, autumn, summer, or spring...The sun is only better to calculate days. It has nothing on the moon where monthly calculations are concerned. The moon is more accurate. About the Saudis and Islam, they knew about monotheism and a divine God called Allah before Mohammad. Saudis knew about Islam after the first revelation came to Mohammed S.A.W in the cave from the angel Jubril A.S and not from the Ethiopians as you put it. |
shymexx: Why the moon?? Why not the sunWhat?! The sun is better for calculating time and seasons? You are wrong there sir. He wasn't educated about Islam anywhere except Saudi. How could the Ethiopians have taught him the things he knew when the things he knew were confirmed to have been out of this world even by the people better than the people you claim taught him? |
sexyverah: Mohammed was d no 1 muslim terrorist.. he raped old nd young, looth, enslaved nd forced people outta their will to join this so called anti-christ called islam.. take it or leave itQuote and cite your source or stop spreading falsehood. |
sexyverah: Not every Muslim is a Terrorist but Every Terrorist is a Muslim..Fallacy! Not all terrorists are Muslims. |
shymexx: Islam started before Muhammed, just as what we now call Christianity started before Jesus Christ.... Those two prophets were just "legends" who popularised them...Come off it, will you!!? Christianity started after Christ. |
kuss: TUFIAKWA TO BECOME A SUICIDE BOMBER OR WHATYou must think that you are funny. I am confident that no follower of the Qur'an will commit suicide. The reason is in the Qur'an: “And do not throw (yourselves) with your own hands to destruction; but work (deeds of) excellence for verily Allah loves the people of excellence.” [Surah Baqarah 2:195] Thus we are ordered to not destroy ourselves rather to direct the mind and energies to doing good deeds that please Allah. In another verse, “And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allaah is Most merciful to you.” [Surah Nisaa 4:29] In the hadith also, the prophet S.A.W whom you all think they are following warned against it: Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "He who commits suicide by throttling shall keep on throttling himself in the Hell Fire (forever) and he who commits suicide by stabbing himself shall keep on stabbing himself in the Hell-Fire." —Sahih al-Bukhari, 2:23:446 Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever purposely throws himself from a mountain and kills himself, will be in the (Hell) Fire falling down into it and abiding therein perpetually forever; and whoever drinks poison and kills himself with it, he will be carrying his poison in his hand and drinking it in the (Hell) Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever; and whoever kills himself with an iron weapon, will be carrying that weapon in his hand and stabbing his abdomen with it in the (Hell) Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever." — Sahih al-Bukhari, 7:71:670 |

tomakint: I don't talk here for the fun of it, how come those masquerades were not attacking and killing Christians! The truth is, you started the attack on these custodians of traditions and the reason we don't know! The case of Ajagbe Mo keferi at Ibadan came to mind where he descended heavily on the Oloolu and his olokos because it was said they (the masquerades) beat up one of the Cleric followers, many of the 'Olokos' were severely wounded and few killed while none of the Cleric's followers died! The question is this, why are you people (Muslims) violent and always pugnacious over little matters? Throughout the federation Muslims fanatics are always fond of fomenting while Christians (even the fanatics among them)have been observed to be peaceful! I need answersChristian fanatics like the Norwegian terrorist have always been peaceful right? |
tomakint: Our Own Wole Soyinka I totally disagree with you on this! Those tebliks who beat up masquerades in Oshogbo, Ibadan, Abeokuta are muslims and not Boko Harams, those who beheaded Gideon Akaluka in 1994 are not boko harams but are muslims, those who beat up Oloolu (a famous Masquerade) and his followers at Ibadan last year are muslims and not boko harams, the message is very clear there is a connection from Islam to what boko harams are doing and that is VIOLENCE! Truth be toldWhere were you when masquerades were killing Muslims? Were all the actions of reverend King preached in the bible? Your understanding of Islam is just like boko haram's. |
My advice is that they shouldn't marry. |
misterh: Your mindset is pathetic. And who told you Soyinka is an atheist? Prove to me that Soyinka is wrong. Oya show me your own understanding of the Quran! MstweewI tire o. |
PORT HARCOURT: NOBLE laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has lashed at members of Boko Haram, saying they have limited knowledge of Islamic religion. Speaking Monday in Port Harcourt at the opening of this year’s Rivers state education summit, organised by the state government Professor Soyinka said poor knowledge of the Koran was largely responsible for why Boko Haram should despise western education. According to him some of the greatest philosophers in history were Muslims, adding that there was need for members of Boko Haram to be retrained on the content of the religion. “Boko Haram are not educated enough about their religion to know that some of the greatest philosophers came from the religion. They have been taught one track line (Monorail) about the religion. They need to be re educated about the religion”, he said. Soyinka who was Chairman of the opening session said government should take urgent steps to redress the decay in the nation’s university system, stressing that he was happy to be invited to the summit to be part of a move to rebuild the educational system. Professor Emeritus, Ayo Banjo who gave the key note address called for steps to improve on the quality of education at the primary level, stressing that it was the foundation of the educational system. He traced the high percentage failure recorded in the past at the West Africa School Certificate Examination to a weak foundation at the primary level, adding also that the shaky foundation was also behind poor quality graduates being shunned out by universities in the country. Professor Banjo further called for a total overhaul of the educational system from the secondary to tertiary level to achieve the best for the nation. Earlier in his welcome address, governor Chibuike Amaechi said the government was set to engage thirteen thousand teachers to provide the needed manpower to achieve quality education in the state. He said the newly built modern schools would be managed by private hands for the state. The governor who spoke extensively on some of the challenges militating against quality education in the state said his government had to institute a Quality Assurance Board to check the problems. seyibrown: .... and do you not think that the couple's family, neighbours and friends will also not gossip about whether the couple had actually used the child for some kind of ritual? The man took the decision he thought was the best and one could agree with him from a point view ... one can only pray never to find oneself in that kind of situation!True! That is the problem. People will never believe their story in as much as they didn't come back home with one of their family members. May we be saved from such situation. |
Rukemi291: So, what happened to the 'sacrificed' child?Nobody knows what they did to the child. They just took him away. There are 1000 + 1 things they can utilize him for though. |
seyibrown: Terrible situation to be in ...... but I believe the head of the family should have sacrificed himself for his family as Christ sacrificed himself for us. How would the Mother and Father live not knowing what would be done to their child! I can imagine endless nights of them imagining all sorts of horrible things happening to the kid. They had a duty to protect the child. Sad situation.Truly sad. One can only make easy decisions when one is not in the same situation. What do you think would have happened to the wife? How was she to convince her in-laws that she did not kill her husband? |

Adufaye: lol, make dey share the money naHmm! Naija and money. Politicians will never share money to ordinary citizens, they will rather keep it for themselves. Besides, when the time comes, there will be less time to spend all the money you may have acquired. |

I hope you are familiar with the bloody expedition of the Ottoman Empire in his bid to spread Islam all over the world, I hope you know that similar tactics were used in spreading Islam in Mali, Sudan, Nigeria etc. Perhaps I need you to expatiate on why Muslim-populated countries are prone to violence and are yet to have relative peace [Mali, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, former Yugoslavia (now Sebia and Montenegro), Iran, not forgeting northern Nigeria and many more] all these countries have been boiling and still boiling Why? Because they are Muslim-populated No?
