Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has told Adams Oshiomhole that they celebrated in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the day he was removed as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike said this on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Rumuepirikom Flyover in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. He explained that their celebration for Oshiomhole’s removal was because of how strong he was while he led the ruling party and made things difficult for the opposition.

“I know you; you are not someone who will like to flatter anybody. You shoot straight. that is why when you were shooting straight as Chairman of the party, some people were not happy and they had to gang up for you to leave. So, you can see the reality. You may think you want to straighten things, and some people will call you back, ‘My friend, you are straightening too much, bend!’

“Nigerians don’t like anything that is too straight. They will find a way to circumvent it to make sure the person who wants to do the right thing is taken out but God’s time is the best and I believe that is God’s time. If God didn’t sanction it, it won’t have happened even though we were happy because you were too strong.

“Anybody who watches you talk sometimes the opposition doesn’t know what to say again. So, the day you were removed, we said God thank you that this trouble man has gone. He has given us a lot of heat. You can see how comfortable we are now,” Wike said.

2023 Election Is Fight To Define Soul Of Nigeria - Tinubu Flags Off Campaign In Jos

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Tuesday flagged off his presidential campaign in Jos, Plateau state amid crowd fracas.

Although the cause of the crowd trouble was not clear, visibly angry supporters were recorded throwing objects in the air.

Speaking during the flag-off, Tinubu said the 2023 election is a fight to define the soul of the nation and “determine our collective fate.”

“Do we adhere to the ideals of broadly shared prosperity, competence, peace, justice and compassion toward all?” He asked.


“Or do we toss these ideals away, lashing ourselves to the divisive politics of the past or to those whose rantings show they cannot distinguish between fact and fantasy.”

President Muhammadu Buhari and other APC bigwigs were present at the campaign flag-off.


“I am deeply honoured for the presence of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari,” Tinubu said.

“As campaign chairman, he promised to lead from the front. A man of his word, President Buhari has done what he said and more.”

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, recalled the events leading up to the establishment of the Debt Management Office (DMO) while serving as Vice President under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration between 1999 and 2007.

Speaking at the 26th Lagos Business School (LBS) Alumni Conference held in Lagos, Atiku explained that when the PDP was elected into government in 1999, marking the beginning of the Fourth Republic, the party really did not have a policy document.

“When the PDP was elected into government in 1999, we really did not have a policy document. We didn’t have a plan. We met a country that was heavily indebted, that was in crisis between the various component parts of the country, and so on,” he said.

Atiku said during a trip to the annual International Monetary Fund-World Bank conference in Washington, he visited the World Bank to outline Nigeria’s debt problem.

“(I told them) we don’t know why we’re owing, whom we’re owing, for what, what the money was meant for, and so on. In other words, we didn’t have any records in the Ministry of Finance. Then the World Bank officials said, ‘Look, we have a brilliant Nigerian in this bank.’

“I said, ‘Can you please loan her to us?’ And I was introduced to our former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. I came back and told the president and we invited her to join us. From there, we realised had to set up what we called the Debt Management Office (DMO).

With the 2023 presidential campaigns underway, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be wary about the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, diluting the PDP’s political influence in the South-East.

Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, contested in the 2019 presidential election as the running mate to the party’s standard bearer, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. In May, he defected to LP mere days to Atiku’s re-emergence as the candidate of the PDP.

“The PDP has to worry more about the South-East than we do. First of all, traditionally, the stronghold of the PDP has been the South-East. Not so anymore. We have two exceptional governors there in Imo State and Ebonyi State who are doing very well and have built a broad base of support there,” Fani-Kayode said during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

“We also have pockets of support in places like Enugu where you have Senator Chimaroke Nnamani and so on. And you have this issue of a number of governors in the South-East who were originally PDP or that are PDP but are now against their party, working against their party.”
