PoliticsRe: We Must Not Rest Until There Is Improved Welfare For Citizens We Represent ― VP by abel619: 12:14pm On May 06, 2021
I think Osinbajo is saying the truth. Though Nigeria is facing diverse challenges, it will overcome the problems and realise its potentials especially if people who share progressive views continue to work together in the interest of the country.

PoliticsRe: Ex-Alpha Beta MD Urges EFCC To Revisit N100bn Money Laundering Petition by abel619: 3:31pm On Aug 11, 2020
iwaeda:
A former Managing Director of Alpha Beta Consulting Limited and Alpha Beta LLP, Mr. Dapo Apara, has called on the new acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mohammed Umar, to revisit his petition against the company.

The former Alpha Beta boss had in July 2018 written a petition against the companies, alleging that the firms had failed to pay taxes in the sum of N100bn.

Apara further alleged in the petition that the firms seemed “untouchable” because they were being protected by powerful politicians.

However, the then acting Spokesman for the EFCC, Tony Orilade, had said that Apara did not give the EFCC sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against the companies.

For the records, the Alpha Beta investigation is ongoing and we have nothing to hide over the matter. If the petitioner has any further proof with regards to the petition, our doors are wide open. As a tradition, we do not deal on hearsay; we act on facts and raw data,” Orilade had said.

Apara has again called on the EFCC leadership to revisit the petition.

Responding to a question, he said, “I will like the new chairman to live up to the anti-corruption credentials of this government and carry out a thorough investigation of my petition. I am always available to provide further details required.”

Apara had alleged that Alpha Beta, which collects tax on behalf of the Lagos State Government, used a company, Ocean Trust Limited, to launder funds.

Incidentally, the property where Ocean Trust Limited is located shares the same address with the office of former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State known as ‘Freedom House’ located at Plot 684, Idowu Taylor Street.

Documents from the Corporate Affairs Commission revealed that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo’s former firm, Simmons Coopers Partners, served as company secretary of Ocean Trust until the eve of the 2015 Presidential election.

Osinbajo had, however, denied allegations and insinuations of graft against his person.

Alpha Beta Consulting was awarded a contract by the Tinubu-led government after a recommendation by a committee comprising the then attorney-general of Lagos State, Prof Osinbajo (now the Vice-President); Mr Wale Edun, the then commissioner for finance; and a former commissioner for economic planning and budget, Yemi Cardoso.

The firm was subsequently given exclusive rights to collect taxes on behalf of Lagos State and was believed to receive about 10 per cent commission from the revenue it collected for the state.

However, pro-transparency groups and opposition politicians have constantly alleged that Tinubu owns Alpha Beta even though his name is not on any of the company documents.

Alpha Beta has constantly denied allegations of fraud, insisting that he helped boost the internally generated revenue of Lagos State.

PoliticsRe: National Assembly To Investigate Corruption In NSIP Under Osinbajo, Uwais by abel619: 6:39pm On Aug 10, 2020
maybanks:
The National Assembly is set to begin the probing of activities of the National Social Investment Programme.

A source revealed to SaharaReporters that the parliamentarians will also organise a public hearing to investigate possible corruption activities in the scheme.

The probe will focus on the activities of the NSIP under the Office of the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, and Maryam Uwais, Special Adviser to the President on the NSIP.

“The National Assembly is beginning the process to investigate the NSIP and this will start soon.

“The aim is to expose the corruption that has taken place in the programme while it was under the Vice President.

“Next target is the NSIP and the National Assembly will be focusing the programme under the Vice President and Mrs Uwais’ tenure,” the source said.

The source further stated that the Senate President will champion the probe, adding that Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq, will be working with the National Assembly for the purpose.

Activities of the NSIP have come under scrutiny since President Muhammadu Buhari introduced it in 2016.

Some of the programmes under the scheme include N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfer, and Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

The House of Representatives had on Thursday invited Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed; ex-Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun; and Farouq over the spending of N1.7trn on NSIP between 2016 and 2019.

They are to appear before the House Committee on Public Procurement headed by Oluwole Oke.

The've fabricated another lie, who does not know Osinbajo was not involved in the disbursement of cash, he only supervised the scheme by strolling to markets to interact with marketers on how they are benefiting from the scheme.

The disbursement of the funds was done by the Bank of Industry.

The Vice President Prof. Osinbajo disclosed this on Thursday at the virtual Townhall meeting of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) themed “How to build the right mindset for a better Nigeria, post COVID-19”.

The Vice President while detailing the Federal Government’s economic response to pandemic at Law Students Townhall Meeting stated that today’s lawyer must be multidisciplinary, multi-tasking, digitally strong men or women of affairs.

According to the Vice President, “We are faced with a two-fold global crisis. First is a health crisis and then there is an economic crisis and the combined effects have resulted in possibly the greatest socio-economic crisis in recent history.

Continuing Prof. Osinbajo noted “…at the moment, we are also at a turning point with new opportunities to turn under-consumption into thriving business models if only we effectively innovate. We are seeing some of this emerge already.”

“The thing that we will always keep in mind is that this is a huge country. So, sometimes when things are done, you hear people say ‘I don’t even know that things are being done.” So, you will always have a situation where it will never seem like it’s covering the entire country.

I give you another example. When we decided that we were going to provide micro-credit for two million traders across the country, in fact, we did, eventually, over two million. So, in a country of this size, many will even say, we didn’t get anything.

So, every time you think, in terms of solving the problems of Nigeria, we have to think in terms of scale, scale is it. You can do 200,000 of anything and it won’t make a difference in Nigeria. So, scale is very important as you think through solutions.”

think it is a brilliant challenging new world that we have out there and I am sure you young people know that the days ahead are exciting, we are in the best moment in history, you have all the resources. I always say that never listen to the people who tell you of ”the good old days”, they have memory loss. There is no such thing as good old days, today is the very best day possible.

Every generation has its own challenges; the next 20 years, there will be different sets of challenges. You can’t say that my father told me that when he got out of school, he didn’t need to look for work. You’d need to ask him how many people were in Law School at the time? In my set, we were only 300 in the entire country. If I come out of school and say I found a job, so what? Today, there are thousands of people but there are also thousands of opportunities and the world is open.

In my day, I couldn’t seat in my office and talk to you, I didn’t have a mobile phone and even our regular phones were not working.

So, the days ahead are exciting and I hope this interaction will be one that will give you greater insights into the opportunities they are and I noticed that there are going to be many speakers even from the private sector”. He concluded.

Nigeria's Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN, is the first Nigerian Vice-President that is widely accepted across all geopolitical zones of Nigeria, not minding his ethnicity or his religion. Following the events that had the VP as a guest, the smile on the people knows no bound. The women, youths and the children are always glad to have him around, chanting the President's name as a sign of their perception of his loyalty to his boss and struggling for handshakes.

One of the love that bound the masses, the school children, market women and some of the poorest family is "Osinbajo", walking from school to school, market to market, home to home and even paying surprise visits to small scale business owners. I believe it is safe to call the Prof. "the People's Vice - President", owing to the fact that the vice - presidents I knew would rather prefer to go to the elites companies, established investments to lobby for contracts and travel to meet the who-is-who across the world.

Although the Vice - President is not lobbying for Nigeria's top political seat, yet he is one of the most qualified.

Yes, the Northerners love for Buhari's Deputy is real and I have being following up with many political related analysis, while some are real, few others are just fake narratives, not taking cognizance of facts and documentation of the majority and the dignitaries perception about the former University Teacher.

In retrospect, one could wonder if the learned silk has seven lives, giving in more energy, never relenting or tired to do more service to the nation. Even when it seems like a busy day, Osinbajo still defies protocol to attend functions in the far Northern states of Nigeria. So what more could we say of the maestro?

The verified facts remains that, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN has taken the Northern Geopolitical zone of Nigeria as his second home, having traversed to all nooks and crannies of the states. Pastor is never scared whenever he visits, knowing that he has performed and he is still performing at his best irrespective of the region or religion, making him the most hardworking and unsentimental vice-president the black most populous nation ever had.

It is a known fact that the northerners do invest massively in Agriculture, and other businesses. The Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo led Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council is already counting its gains, for both local and foreign based investors. In lieu of this, the north is a great beneficiary and couldn't hide their gratitude as their businesses keeps booming.

Despite the fear of the dying insurgency in the north, Osinbajo have visited villages, markets, functions (both public and private) as keynote speaker and also commissioning of projects. These and many more qualities made him more acceptable and in the chess of political bargains.

In the build up of the 2019 electioneering process, the VP escaped an helicopter crash in Kogi, the outpour of the public sympathy showed that Osinbajo is not just love by God, he is also admired by men both in the north and across the nation.

Indeed, the northerners appreciates loyalty and do acknowledge the best brains, that is "Why the northerners love Buhari's Deputy, Osinbajo", devoid of the political calculations by some minorities who are mere jobbers.
