A prominent activist and convener of the CountryFirst Movement, Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr, has condemned the Department of State Services’ (DSS) attempt to restrain Prof Pat Utomi, saying it’s unconstitutional. Nwaokobia argues that a “Shadow Government” is a legitimate effort to provide alternative policies to the current government’s flip-flops. The activist lists several allegations against the current government, including: – Poor handling of subsidy removal: Nwaokobia questions why the government removed fuel subsidy without viable alternatives, leading to increased poverty and hunger. – Devaluation of the naira: He criticizes the government’s decision to float the naira without strengthening production levers, deepening food security, or cushioning inflation. – Inflated revenue claims: Nwaokobia disputes the government’s claims of increased revenue, citing high inflation and unexplained debts. – Corruption: He alleges that the government is corrupt, citing examples like the 2025 budget padding and exorbitant line charges. – Insecurity: Nwaokobia accuses the government of democratizing insecurity, making Nigerians feel less safe than in 2015. The activist urges the government to focus on making democracy work rather than stifling dissent. He advises the government to “open up the jails” if they cannot govern effectively. Nwaokobia emphasizes that citizens’ actions will become imperative if the government continues to fail. https://www.signalng.com/dsss-attempt-to-restrain-prof-pat-utomi-unconstitutional-prof-nwaokobia-jnr/

By A. O. Augustine As someone born in Kano, I fondly remember the splendor of Sallah celebrations, particularly the majestic Dubar Sallah, also known as Hawar Sallah. The city was the epitome of royalty, with the late Alhaji Ado Bayero embodying the essence of kingship. His leadership was marked by unity, as he brought together the family of his predecessor, Emir Sanusi, and his own children, ensuring the continuity of royalty within the ruling clan. However, the greed of politicians has ravaged the once-revered throne. The creation of five first-class emirates by Governor Ganduje, allegedly to silence Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, has diminished the influence of the Kano emirate. The tussle between Aminu Ado and his cousin brother the 14th and 16th Emir Mohammadu Sanusi II has tarnished the reputation of the throne. The beauty of the Sallah festival, which once drew tourists and generated revenue for the state, has given way to petty power struggles. Kano's loss is evident, and it's time for stakeholders to reflect on the consequences of their actions. The question remains: can Kano reclaim its lost grandeur, or will the city continue to suffer from the ego-driven decisions of its leaders? Only time will tell. https://blazonnewsng.com/the-fall-of-kanos-royal-splendor-a-lamentation-of-lost-grandeur/

Prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Jibrin Sam Okutekpa, has strongly criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s assertion that “things are getting better” under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Okutekpa expressed concern that Nigerian politicians, particularly those close to the president, are out of touch with the struggles of ordinary citizens. He noted that these officials often engage in sycophantic praise-singing, failing to provide honest feedback on the government’s performance. Okutekpa challenged Akpabio to provide concrete evidence of areas where things are improving, citing concerns over security, food prices, road conditions, healthcare, and employment opportunities. He argued that the Senate President’s claim is an insult to Nigerians suffering under economic hardship. Okutekpa urged Akpabio to stop engaging in praise-singing and instead focus on holding the executive accountable. He emphasized the need for leaders to acknowledge and address the country’s challenges rather than living in denial. Okutekpa dared Akpabio to travel without escorts and experience the harsh realities faced by ordinary Nigerians, suggesting that this would give him a more accurate understanding of the situation. Okutekpa lamented the prevalence of sycophancy in Nigerian politics, arguing that it hinders meaningful progress and accountability. He called on leaders to prioritize the welfare of citizens and address the country’s pressing issues. https://kwararafareporters.com/san-slams-senate-president-over-things-are-getting-better-claim/

The Kano State Government has shockingly announced measures that contravene Press Freedom and Freedom of expression. The state commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, during a quarterly meeting with media executives yesterday, assumed the duties of Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) issued decrees restraining Media outlets in the state. Waiya announced a ban on live political programmes across media outlets to prevent alleged spread of inflammatory content. Secondly, Presenters were also banned from asking provocative questions or making suggestive gestures that could lead to statements capable of defaming individuals or damaging the image of Kano State. Thirdly, anyone appearing on media platforms for interviews must sign an undertaking to refrain from making abusive, defamatory, or culturally offensive remarks. The Commissioner further added that it is the government’s commitment to preserving the state’s moral standards, disclosing that sensitization programmes have been organized for political programme presenters, media commentators, and the Council of Friday Imams. These efforts, he noted, are designed to encourage responsible communication that conveys messages to the public without defamation or any act that could undermine the state’s reputation. Comrade Waiya further clarified that the government’s stance is not to suppress political opposition but rather to safeguard the sanctity of Kano’s cultural and religious values. https://www.arewareportersng.com/kano-govt-moves-to-gag-media-stifle-opposition-voices/

Dateline, 29 April, 2025. The brand new magnificent Enugu State International Conference Centre was the venue of the 14th Chief Emeka Anyaoku Lecture Series on Good Governance with the theme "The Imperative Of Good Governance: Nigeria in a Global Comparative Perspective", and organised by the Board of Youth Affairs International Foundation. The event was a Spectacle of immense didactic importance with great minds in attendance. The Former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku was the Star of the day, the former Military Governor of the Old Imo State, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Major General Ike Nwachukwu was the Chairman of the event, and Nigeria's former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari was the Guest Speaker at the event where the Performing Governor of Enugu State Dr Peter Mbah amongst other Esteemed Guests stood in honour of a nonagenarian whose life is a testament of dignity, integrity and discipline. At the event, the Former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, described Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State as an epitome of good governance, noting that the Governor was genuinely and quietly transforming Enugu State. Chief Emeka Anyaoku was clear and unambiguous in his appraisal of the Enugu State Governor as a visionary, and that Peter Mbah's leadership style works for the speedy development of the State. Anyaoku was emphatic that the spate of development in Enugu State under Governor Peter Mbah, would become the norm should Nigeria have a genuine Federal Constitution that engenders True Fiscal Federalism. The Super Diplomat whilst speaking at the 14th Chief Emeka Anyaoku Lecture Series on Good Governance hosted in his honour at the Enugu State International Conference Centre on Tuesday, was unequivocal in his praise of the Enugu State Governor, hear him, "Allow me the privilege of describing him (Governor Peter Mbah) as a truly performing Governor. Yesterday, I was given glimpses of projects that have either been completed or in active progress towards completion. I saw, for example, this magnificent International Conference Centre. I saw an array of CNG Buses at Okpara Square. I saw the Smart Green Schools, which I gather that the Governor’s plan is to replicate in every Electoral Constituency (Wards), and I learnt that there are as many as 260 of them. I was also able to visit a state-of-the-art Bus station, the Holy Ghost Terminal. So, I would say that Governor Peter Mbah is genuinely transforming Enugu State, which used to be described as a Civil Service State. He is transforming it into an Industrial, Educational Hub and Agricultural Innovation." Chief Anyaoku continues, “The surprising thing is that all these developments are going on with little publicity. I had expected, as my experience visiting many other States in this country has shown, that in places where you have two to three projects going, you will have massive publicity of them. But not so in Enugu. So, Governor Peter Mbah is not just a performing Governor, but he is also a quiet and noiseless Governor", he noted. In a few days, the Enugu State Government will be hosting the National Convention of the Nigerian Bar Association NBA, another testament to the beauty, the peace, the Security, the Industry and the camaraderie that attends the Enugu space, thanks to the ebullient Servant Leader, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. We, the Concerned Professionals For Good Governance (A Good Leadership Advocacy Group) are committed to a private sector driven appraisal of leadership any and everywhere in Nigeria. We shall praise, applaud and celebrate PERFORMERS whilst profusely lampooning all underperforming Political operators across the nation, such is our creed. And in furtherance to this creed of ours, we hereby adopt the salient and unequivocal words of the 92 years old Elder Statesman, Chief Emeka Anyaoku to wit that Peter Mbah is genuinely quietly transforming Enugu State... And such is the unassailable TRUTH. Okechukwu Nwafor Concerned Professionals For Good Governance. Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr Convener COUNTRYFIRST MOVT. A Good Governance Advocacy Group, has described Gov. Mbah's administration as the most remarkable and halcyon spectacle of good governance in the present Republic. Nwaokobia Jnr in a press statement said Mbah's performance is unarguably the reason Ndi'Enugu are clearly unanimous in the praise and appreciation of the commitment of their Governor to make real the promises of democracy. The statement reads further "The Peter Mbah led government has redefined governance in so many ways that every so often the trophy cabinet of the State government calls for regular review and rework as monstrous accolades stream in almost on a daily basis. Enugu State has become the lead example of exemplary and servant oriented leadership. And Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is without an ounce of doubt a homo sequentum". "Have you googled Enugu State to see the remarkable strides in Agriculture? Have you searched the internet to see the monstrous strides in Infrastructural Development? Have you heard of the unassailable commitment of the Enugu State Government to the protection of lives and property? Have you heard of the Digitalised Control Centre that works for seamless synergy between Security Agencies in the State? Have you seen the beautiful Smart Schools that define the commitment of the Enugu State Government to Education? Have you read about the monumental investment of Enugu State in Healthcare, and the Healthcare Centres springing up across the Wards in Enugu State?" "Have you seen the Cargo Wing of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport targeted at opening new frontiers for business? Have you seen the ongoing International Conference Centre and the Five Star Hotel project, with the profound intention of making Enugu State the go-to destination for Business, and for leisure? Have you seen the commitment of the State to Arts, Culture and Tourism? Have you seen the resurgence of Pipe Borne Water in Enugu State, and are you aware that no State in Nigeria comes near Enugu State in the restoration of Pipe Borne Water? Have you seen the level of work on both urban and rural roads that has turned Enugu State into a huge construction site? And have you seen the olympic strides of the State government in Skill Acquisition, Human Capital Development, and Empowerment? Do you think that the popular refrain THE FUTURE IS HERE is masturbatory? Folks, without a shade of equivocation Enugu State is the lucid manifestation of the greatness that responsible and responsive leadership engenders." "Within the past 6 months the Enugu State Government have been first in almost every parameter and sector of governance. Peter Mbah has been Governor of the Year. Enugu State has led the pack in Infrastructural development. Enugu State tops the chart in Healthcare, in Education, and in the commitment to the Security of lives and property. Yes, laudable laurels and trophies litter the Enugu tapestry, thanks to the unalterable commitment of the Governor to make Enugu State profoundly better than he met it." "The awesome strides of the Peter Mbah led government of Enugu State are so manifest that even the fiercest opponent of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in the 2023 contestation for the high office of Governor, Barrister Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party has returned to the Governor's Party, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP. And in doing so, Edeoga was emphatic about the great strides of the Peter Mbah led government. Edeoga was forthright in his call for Ndi'Enugu to support 'the man who knows the way', and 'to stand with the man whose commitment to an Enugu State that works for all is without blemish.'" "Edeoga's return to the PDP and his profound testimony about the man that is consistently Making A Difference MAD in Enugu State enamours; and very striking however is the recent endorsement of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah by the leaders of Nsukka Community, and take note that Nsukka is arguably the largest voter demography in Enugu State." "In endorsing and applauding the Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah led administration, the Nsukka Leaders noted that they are overwhelmed by the strides of the government in Infrastructural Development, in Healthcare, in Education, in Urban and Rural Development, in Skill Acquisition and Human Capital Development, and in improving the general well-being of Ndi'Enugu." "Need I tell you that as the endorsements stream in, the humble People's Governor of Enugu State has remained focused, Unfazed and committed to the promises that he made to Ndi'Enugu during the 2023 campaign season. To Governor Peter Mbah there is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off. And he is unwilling to allow the blinding lights of sycophants and Court-jesters derail his vision and dream of an Enugu State that meets the standards of a highly progressive world. To Peter Mbah The FUTURE IS HERE." "And to all advocates of good governance and servant oriented leadership I commend the watchman in the saddle at the Government House in Enugu, knowing that when in unison we applaud all vistas of good governance on our political kaleidoscope, we shall be redefining thereto the moral and ideological minimums of leadership in Nigeria." "To Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah a heart of love and admiration. And to Ndi'Enugu I say, The Future Is Here." https://kwararafareporters.com/gov-peter-mbah-remains-focused-and-unfazed-prof-nwaokobia-jnr/

Aminu Bala Madobi Feb 24th, 2024 I'm compelled to respond to the recent letter published in the dailies, which launched a vicious attack on the person and character of Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, the Honourable Commissioner of Information in Kano State. The letter, penned by a self-styled "Concerned Citizen of Kano", is a tissue of lies, misrepresentations, and barefaced distortions. Firstly, we take umbrage with the writer's attempt to impugn Ambassador Waiya's character by alleging that he has a history of conflicts with certain groups. This is a blatant falsehood, as Ambassador Waiya has always been known for his bridge-building abilities and his capacity to work harmoniously with diverse stakeholders. In fact, Ambassador Waiya has been instrumental in fostering partnerships between the Kano State Government and various civil society organizations, which has led to significant improvements in the lives of the citizens of Kano State. Furthermore, the writer's assertion that Ambassador Waiya's presence in the committee has turned what should be a platform for oversight into a battlefield for personal grudges is a gross exaggeration. Ambassador Waiya has always conducted himself with the utmost professionalism and decorum, and his contributions to the committee have been invaluable. It is on record that Ambassador Waiya has been a key driver of the committee's efforts to promote transparency and accountability in governance, and his expertise has been sought by various stakeholders, including civil society organizations and the media. I also find it curious that the writer would suggest that Ambassador Waiya should be replaced by Sanusi Bature, the Director-General of Media. This is a clear attempt to sow discord and create unnecessary tension within the government. Sanusi Bature is a respected colleague, but he is not a substitute for Ambassador Waiya's unique skills and experience. Ambassador Waiya's expertise in information management and his ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders make him an indispensable asset to the Kano State Government. Moreover, flabbergastedly amazed by the writer's audacity in attempting to dictate to the Governor of Kano State on how to run his government. The writer's suggestion that the Governor should "pull Waiya back from the brink" is a clear example of meddling in the internal affairs of the government. I'm using this podia to urge the Gov. Yusuf to ignore this unsolicited advice and continue to work with Ambassador Waiya and other officials to deliver on his campaign promises to the people of Kano State. But what is most galling is the sheer hypocrisy of the self-styled "Concerned Citizen of Kano". This individual, who has suddenly developed a keen interest in the affairs of Kano State, has no credibility whatsoever. Their track record of activism is non-existent, and their sudden concern for the welfare of Kano State is nothing but a thinly veiled attempt to gain relevance. We challenge this individual to come clean about their true motives and to explain why they have chosen to launch a vicious attack on Ambassador Waiya. It is also important to highlight the significant role played by Ambassador Waiya in the Ministry of Information. Since his appointment, the ministry has undergone an amazing metamorphosis, transforming from a sleepy, ineffective department into a vibrant, dynamic hub of activity. Ambassador Waiya's unique leadership style, which emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and results-driven performance, has been instrumental in driving this transformation. Under his watch, the ministry has launched a range of innovative initiatives, including a comprehensive reform of the state's information management systems and a major overhaul of the state's media landscape. Ambassador Waiya's historic background as a human rights activist and a champion of social justice is also worth noting. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to the values of transparency, accountability, and human dignity. His work has taken him to the forefront of some of the most pressing social and economic issues of our time, from the struggle for democracy and human rights to the fight against poverty and inequality. It is this wealth of experience and expertise that he brings to his role as Honourable Commissioner of Information, and it is this that has made him such a valuable asset to the Kano State Government. In conclusion, we urge the good people of Kano State to disregard the malicious and unfounded attacks on Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya. Ambassador Waiya remains a dedicated and loyal servant of the state, and his commitment to the development and progress of Kano State is unwavering. We will not be swayed by the petty machinations of those who seek to undermine the government and its officials. Mr. David Anyaele, Chairman, Abia State Commission for the Welfare of the Disabled Persons, said that Gov. Alex Otti is committed to prevention and reduction of incidence of disability, and leprosy in the state. Anyaele in a statement issued to newsmen in Umuahia on Saturday, said that the governor demonstrated this through enhancing access to healthcare services to all Abia residents. He stated this when members of the Integration Dignity and Economic Advancement (IDEA-Nigeria) and the state chapter of National Association of Persons Affected by Leprosy paid an unscheduled visit to his office on Friday. He stated that the governor launched the renovation and remodeling of 200 primary healthcare centres across the 184 wards in the state a few days ago. Anyaele said that Otti’s plan was to equip those centres with independent power supply, efficient water supply systems, and other support infrastructure to enhance quality healthcare delivery services. According to him, that’s the reason behind 35 per cent budgetary allocation to healthcare and education sectors in our 2025 budget. He disclosed that the commission's interest was to collaborate with the Ministry of Health to ensure access to prevention and treatment service to residents affected by leprosy. Anyaele who is the Special Assistant to the Governor on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), said the measure was to ensure that services were available, accessible and affordable to the people especially those in rural and hard to reach areas of the state. He stated that the commission was committed to ensuring public awareness campaigns in collaboration with IDEA on the key issues that were raised particularly on educating residents about prevention and treatment of leprosy. The statement read in part: "We equally commit to reducing stigma and discrimination because we understand that the bulk of the key challenge IDEA members face has to do with stigma and discrimination. "We learnt that most of your members that have already been treated are finding it difficult to go back to their communities because of the negative perception of the members of the public on prevention and treatment of persons affected by leprosy. "Therefore, we will continue to activate all measures to foster collaboration with civil society organisations, NGOs and others to get support for your members to attract necessary assistance *required* to enhance your well-being and capabilities for economic independence." Earlier, Mr. Emeka Ikpe, the Chairman IDEA-Nigeria and the National Association of Persons Affected by Leprosy, Abia, said that the visit was part of its activities to mark this year’s World Leprosy Day. He disclosed that the theme for World Leprosy Day 2025, which is usually celebrated on Jan. 26 is “Unite. Act. Eliminate.” Ikpe expressed worry that the multi-drug therapy (MDT), treatment for people affected by leprosy was no longer available in the state and the federation. He stated that the group was creating awareness for the stakeholders and the government to help make the drugs and treatment accessible. "This is because we're having new cases of people with leprosy and If you go to Uzuakoli, you'll see the new cases," he said. Also, Dr Ngozi Ekeke, who works with Red Aid Nigeria, formerly German Leprosy Relief Association, stated that thousands of newly diagnosed leprosy patients had no access to treatment even medication for about one year now. "Leprosy treatment is given free of charge in Nigeria and all over the world. "The arrangement is this, Novartis produces the medicines and brings it as donation to the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva. "WHO distributes to countries according to their needs and requests made. "Nigeria either failed to request or failed to take delivery because they don't care for leprosy patients," the statement quoted Ekeke.

The Abia State Commission for the Welfare of Disabled Persons, has harped on the use of technology driven assistive devices to enhance inclusion for blind persons in Abia state. Mr David Anyaele, the Chairman of the Commission said this at a two-day training and sensitisation workshop organised by the Commission for blind persons in the State. The workshop themed “Introduction to Assistive Technology for the Blind Community” trained not less than 40 blind persons and their aids. Anyaele said that the purpose of the workshop was to train the visually impaired, strengthen their capacity and capability to live independently and to contribute to the socio-economic development of the State through the use of technology. “The Abia state government is committed to ensuring inclusion for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through education and other empowerment programmes. “Governor Alex Otti has shown his commitment in several ways especially through the 20 per cent budget allocation on education in the 2024 budget. “Education gives opportunities to take advantage of opportunities, and the Abia State government is particular about key areas that would enhance inclusion of PWDs to benefit maximally in the state. “I urge all participants of this workshop to learn, unlearn and relearn ways to enhance inclusion through the use of technology assistive devices,” he said. Anyaele said that training which had started in Abia Central would spread among the three senatorial zones to accommodate more participants. According to him, the knowledge gained, when applied would aid persons with visual impairment to communicate, interact and go about their daily businesses independently and effectively. He appreciated the Nigerian Association of the Blind (NAB) for supporting the workshop and urged the association particularly the Abia Chapter, to leverage modern assistive device for their own benefits. He also appreciated the See-through Humanitarian Foundation for their contribution to the programme and passion for PWDs welfare in the state. The Commission Chairman said that those who would develop interest and explore the opportunities on the use of technology to enhance would become visually impaired resource persons with capacity to train others across the country. Mr Orji Apolous participant lauded the commission for organising the programme and creating the platform for the blind to explore modern assistive devices. The participant said that the training on technology, as well as other programmes for PWDs were apt and should be sustained. “Gov. Otti is working for the good of the state and the people which is commendable. “Haven watched how the blinds across the globe are involved in sports like basketball amongst others, I can say that this government is gradually bringing the dreams of the blind to reality,” he said. https://www.signalng.com/abia-state-disability-commission-harps-on-use-of-technology-to-enhance-inclusion-for-blind/

Recalled that there had been uproar from different quarters criticizing Amobeda of delivering controversial judgments to the detriment of the state. The scheduled Local Government Poll for tomorrow has faced various litigations especially from the APC in an attempt to disallow the election. Taraba state governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has revealed that the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo would be ready for commissioning in December 2024. Gov Kefas made this known after meeting with construction giant, CCECC, in his recent trip to China. The airport, which has since begun commercial flights, will be upgraded to accommodate more airlines and more days of flying. Currently, there are three flights per week to and from Abuja to Jalingo. Gov Kefas seeks to expand this operation. In a statement he personally signed, he noted that the partnership with CCECC will contribute to great changes in the state. The statement reads in part "Fellow Citizens of Taraba State, I am pleased to update you on the positive outcome of my recent visit to Beijing, China, where I held a productive meeting with the President of the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). Civil societies in Kano Have raised an alarm over what they described as unpatriotic attitude of Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano. The CSOs under the aegis of Citizens for Development and Education (CDE) in collaboration with Organization for Community and Civic Engagement (OCCEN) and Citizens Voice Against Corruption said Simon is against the people of Kano. According to Amb. Ibrahim Waiya during a press conference on Thursday evening the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) must as a matter of urgency transfer the Judge in question from Kano. He said since he's transfer back to Kano which was suspicious, Justice Simon has been known for delivering controversial judgments with the recent being sacking the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) and some key officials thereby halting the scheduled Local Polls this Saturday. Waiya, lamented that it is on records that Justice Amobeda deliver judgements during public holidays and during the weekends and does not not have the interest of the state and it's people at heart. He further stated the said Judge is about to deliver another suspicious judgement tomorrow calling all and sundry to call him to order immediately for the interest of peace and progress of the state. Furthermore, the CSOs call on President Bola Tinubu to swing into the issue and called those using the federal might to cause set backs in Kano to desist from doing so. In his words " The people of Kano are watching and they know you will contest again in 2027, so it is only wise to stand with the people. We at the CSO will not fold out hands and watched one person smuggled back to Kano destroy our state and tarnish the image of the Judiciary as if Kano is the only place he must serve, he said".

A group called Nigerian Democracy Working Group, a network of civil society organizations, academics, democracy activists, patriotic individuals and entrepreneurs across the six geo political zones of the country, who work to promote democratic practices, cultures and ethics, for the attainment of good governance and sustainable development has threatened to file a petition against Justice Simeon Amobeda. Recall that Justice Amobeda had delivered a judgments delivered while sitting in Kano, which unceremoniously sacked the Chairman and five other members of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KNSIEC). The Judgement coming just barely three days to the date for the conduct of the Local Government Councils Elections. The Group in a statement signed by Dr. Vincent Okpara Innocent Convener and Dr. Idris A. Mohammed Co – Convener of the group , described the judgement as an attempt to truncate democracy. Part of the statement reads; "Although, the ill feelings of the federal High Courts Judges in Kano, to cause conflicts and disharmony in the State, have been imprinted on the minds of every average Kano resident, who have for long known for issuing conflicting court orders which, if not for the divine intervention, Kano State must have been on fire for long". "It is our firm belief that, every civilized democracy, which respects the will of the people, courts wouldn’t have reduced themselves to temples of creating confusion, disharmony, social disunity and disorder, as the essence of their existence on promotion social and legal justice, for the people has been woefully defeated. Therefore, such a judicial system has lost the right to claim any legitimacy of constitutionalism or sanctity. The Nigerian judges have apparently reduced themselves to agents of encouraging servitude against the ordinary citizens, bowing to the interests of some evil minded individuals who care not for any person, except for their self - serving interest". "It is clear that the Federal High Courts in Kano, are on a special mission to destabilize the peace and security of the State. Every responsible person would wonder, how could a competent court of law, would compromise the interest and feelings of over 20 million people of Kano State, by truncating a long time plan to conduct the Local Government Councils elections, bearing in mind the deadline of the Supreme Courts to all States, to ensure then conduct of the elections in all states of the Federation, barely three days to the conduct of the Kano State elections, and not minding the huge and unquantified human and material investments. Why would some selfish individuals be encouraged by the Court to truncate and dash the hope of more than 20 million people residing in Kano State? As we condemn this judgment in totality as insensitive, anti - people, anti - democracy, anti – social justice, emotionally loaded, we call on all Nigerian citizens to condemn the judgment as irrational, miscarriage of justice and ill – timed". "We are compelled to follow the path of true and objective democratic leaders who have steadily observed that, the courts judgments in many politically related cases in Nigeria in recent times, are turning the Nigerian democracy, upside down, reducing the country to a laughing stock as well as damaging the little integrity of the Institution, a body which was supposedly considered to be hallowed". "The Constitution provides the Judiciary with a power as a sacred institution in our democracy, to administer justice and protect the rule of law. It is mandated to, not only administer justice but as well people must see justice being done. We have however, found ourselves in a situation where some allegedly corrupt members of the bench collude with some evil politicians to distort our democracy and elections, consequently, the Nigerian Judiciary has methodically transformed itself into a self-styled “power broker” fully loaded with emotions, self-serving sentiments, and apparently became so monotonous to the plight and concerns of the ordinary Nigerian citizens, at a critical period when the country is imminently faced with the challenges of disintegration, clamors for revolution from within and outside the country, yet the Nigerian judges have continued to act ignorant and insensitive to all the ugly happenings and fundamental threats to national security, peace and social cohesion around the country". "As Civil Society organizations (CSOs) working to promote democracy and good governance, we condemn this anti people court decision purportedly scripted to waste public funds and cause chaos in a volatile State like Kano, without any recourse to public interest, which should be assumed as the overriding. This kind of irrational court judgment is not good for our democracy, and it is of course another factor that would encourage the people to lose the little confidence remaining of the Nigerian Judiciary". "We therefore, wish to call on the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun, to take a decisive action against Justice Simon Amobeda, in line with the pledge of the CJN, of effecting some tangible reforms in the Nigerian Judiciary and deal with reckless judges who indulge in issuing indiscriminate court orders. Justice Simon is indeed fully aware of a subsisting court order from Kano State High Court of justice, prohibiting all political parties, individuals or organizations from interfering or making any attempt to distort or disrupt the process of conducting Local Government Councils Elections in Kano State. The judge, however, chose to scandalously deliver a judgment that may likely have conflict with the earlier position of the Kano State High Court order. This ugly development, is not only an embarrassment to judiciary, but also a deliberate attempt by some elements at the bench to further ruin the little reputation left of the Nigerian Judiciary". "It is our adamant conviction that, if Justice Simon Amobeda is subjected to disciplinary process, it would serve as a deterrent to others. It is time for the new leadership of the Nigerian Judiciary to cleanse the system of all elements with questionable character". https://kwararafareporters.com/group-to-file-petition-against-kano-high-court-judge-over-judgement-stoping-kano-lg-election/

Emmanuel Bello If one were to take the report carried by the relatively unknown newspaper NEWDAY on its face value, it would look as if Governor Agbu Kefas foreign trips are in vain. The report, relying on a recent survey purportedly by the National Bureau of Statistics, did not make any efforts to fact-check the data or even facts on the ground. Data churn out by even the NBS ought to be grilled and benchmarked against realities on ground by any medium that use them for stories. The six billion tale! To begin with, it is hard to even imagine how a whopping sum of six billion naira, as the report alleged, could have gone into any kind of trip. Is this bogus amount for the transport fare alone, or does it include accommodations? What period does the amount cover? Is it for a year or all the trip Governor Kefas has done? Who did the computation? What indices were used? Is it from the receipts from the trips? What are the other details of these amounts? These are the questions that any serious editor will contemplate when looking at the figure. Gov Kefas and trips. It should be stated from the onset that Dr. Kefas is no stranger to traveling both as a private citizen in the past and now that he has the popular mandate of the people. As a private citizen, Gov Kefas has traversed the nooks and crannies of the planet as a student, a well sought-after security consultant, and other personal engagements. None of those trips were frivolous. They were serious trips with strategic missions. Today, as Governor, Dr Kefas has continued in the tradition of high-level engagements with partners around the world - some of the relationships built over the years. Every trip is often well thought out and well designed to address a particular sector of the state. Apart from occasional personal trips (and this is not outlandish for people in government), all the other trips are tied to the needs of the state. Attracting foreign investment. The editors at NEWDAY should have inquired to know what partnership and collaboration Taraba state has entered with foreign governments and how this is impacting on the state. A recent trip to South Africa just the other day, for instance, brought SA partners to Jalingo, who have established the first ever hydrofoam block making technology. Apart from revolutionizing the construction sector, the technology will create new jobs for many. But it goes beyond that. Dr Kefas' effort with another country-Finland- has guaranteed a relationship based on a mutual commitment to free education. Finland is also investing in solid minerals exploration that will cut off any adverse effect on the environment. Governor Kefas links with the Czech Republic go way back. Today, that collaboration has translated into a huge influx of tractors and other agriculture related pacts. The Chinese, too, are flooding Taraba state with collaboration in various sectors: aviation, agriculture, road construction, and other bilateral understanding. A recent trip to the JAC group in China by the governor is opening up the transportation sector with top of the shelve buses coming soon to crash the cost of traveling. Trips to the United States have facilitated investment in environmental causes and maternal/children health causes. Today, with partners at the United Nations, Taraba is getting the right funding to deal with desertification and other environmental degradation crises. Serious Leadership Governor Kefas is known for his seriousness in leadership. Little wonder, therefore, that the world is starting to take the state seriously, too. More investors are willing to come even as some of them have trooped in. There is a clear understanding that nations can do business with Governor Agbu Kefas, given his transparency and proclivity for friendship. We should be celebrating the fact that the world is opening up for us as a state. Although some of the collaborations are yet to manifest openly, the friendship and partnership built with many other countries, whose Embassies Governor Kefas has visited in Abuja, is one that will benefit the state in the long run. https://kwararafareporters.com/that-report-in-newday-on-gov-kefas-foreign-trips-emmanuel-bello/

By Emmanuel Bello With a brilliant blueprint for development, an emerging class of entrepreneurs, and a serious leadership at the helm, Taraba state is becoming more investors friendly. Top-level Nigerians and foreigners keep trooping to the state as if the proverbial Mungo Park has rediscovered Nigeria. Access to the state itself, a major obstacle in the past, has been greatly enhanced with the modified Danbaba Suntai Airport- an ambitious project to open the skies of Jalingo and facilitate more airline brands into the state. The roads are also getting better attention to create greater access to the hinterlands. Dr Agbu Kefas, the swashbuckling governor of the state, has brought his midas touch to the airport- remodeling it to appreciable standards. He told reporters recently that the airport would continue to undergo a face-lift until it is able to expand its clientele and reach. Already plans are underway to train Taraba citizens in various aspects of the aviation industry. A consulting firm has been assisting in churning out basic workers for the airport, thus providing employment for many. Next to this is the overall security Taraba state is currently enjoying. Predicated on a strong tradition of military intelligence, the governor has brought to bear the full impact of his training and worldview as far as security is concerned. The result has been tremendous. The state is now a corridor of safety in the boisterous atmosphere of the wild North East region. It can not be overstated that Dr Kefas is a renowed security expert, well sought after across the globe. He therefore takes the security of Taraba state rather personal as this would be one of the greatest tests of his legacy. No wonder that today, Governor Kefas has relentlessly worked with various military formations and also the paramilitary to secure Taraba as an unsafe haven for bandits and other criminals. The feeling of safety, coupled with tremendous work to protect the borders, has continued to place Taraba on the safety map of a troubled country. People are also taking advantage of all the huge opportunities in education, agriculture, health, mineral exploration, ICT, and all the major sectors to seek new outlets for trade and investment. Free education meant more school aids, teachers' training and support. The ongoing agricultural revolution with the tractors means that farming entrepreneurs now have greater opportunities to diversify. Mining is such an attraction, too, as many of the investors are targeting the newfound zeal and the legal framework that is ensuring better practices. Overall, the state is a beehive of fresh activities. A re-energized civil service wakes up each morning with renewed zest to work. With prompt remunerations and the assurances of proper pensions and gratuities, the workforce is highly motivated. The state is, therefore, constantly humming with the sound of progress at all levels. Taraba state governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has described as disheartening the death of Mrs Niemiss Garba, one of the many residents of Jalingo engaged by the government to keep the metropolis clean. It would be recalled that a hit and run driver had reportedly killed Mrs Garba on the 22nd of August, 2024, in Jalingo. Some government officials have since continued to pay condolence visit to the home of the late Mrs Garba. Reacting to the news, Governor Kefas said the death of Mrs Garba was unfortunate. He said she died in active service while contributing her modest quota to the development of the state. He said the government will continue to prioritize the welfare of those engaged to keep Jalingo clean. He noted that Mrs Garba was doing a descent job and that there is always dignity in any labor. Consequently, Governor Kefas applauded the efforts of the cleaners, noting that the job they do is very important. He said, "keeping our state capital clean is no mean task. I personally always extend my gratitude for the work they (the cleaners) are doing. We had many visitors recently in our city and we expect more as the spate of development increases. It is the great job of those keeping Jalingo clean, among other things, that is attracting more people into our state. These workers are, therefore, my partners in progress." Meanwhile, Governor Kefas has cautioned motorists to be mindful of those cleaning the streets and other road users. He said there would be serious consequences for reckless drivers who put the lives of residents in danger. He further urged the cleaners managers to put safety measures in place to forestall such painful episodes. He prayed for the soul of the deceased and also condoled with the family and colleagues of Mrs Garba. Emmanuel Bello Special Adviser Media and Digital Communications |
