Concerned Professionals For Good Governance, A Good Leadership Advocacy Group has described the news of the killing of 25 persons in Enugu by herdsmen fake news.

In a press statement release to press men titled "Debunking The Politricks of Insecurity: Enugu State on Our Minds".

Mr Okechukwu Nwafor Coordinator of the group in the statement said the story with the caption, 25 Persons Killed, Scores Injured As Armed Herdsmen Attack Enugu Village is not only built on devious masturbatory hallucination, but completely false.

The statement reads further

"Agreed that lately marauding herdsmen have been running amok across the Country, invading towns and villages, and leaving a trail of sorrow, tears and blood in their path. However, there was no such invaders attack on the agrarian communities of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in Enugu State that left 25 persons dead."

"This independent rebuttal of the falsehood targeted at diminishing the halcyon strides of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the Enugu State Government in the area of Security is long overdue. We MUST not suffer 'alarmists and fifth Columnists' gladly. We have therefore chosen to debunk the devious falsehood of tale-mongers and bearers of false report and fake news."

"Twice the false tale of marauding Herdsmen sacking communities in Enugu State have been bandied by those who are desperate to undermine the success of Enugu State in protecting lives and property. Not having any scores against the Enugu State Government in areas of Infrastructural Development, Education, Healthcare, Agriculture, and regarding facts about the profound strides of the Enugu State Government, naysayers have resorted to the Politricks Of Insecurity. They have chosen to hype isolated incidents and falsely alarm lovers of the State, Ndi'Enugu and Nigerians."

And we decided to query the possible reasons cum intention of the bearers of the false report and the fake news."

Last year, everyone was playing “forex lotto,” hoarding dollars and selling at ridiculous rates. But CBN shut that down by extending its $25,000 weekly forex sales to BDCs till May 2025. Translation? More supply, less panic, and a stronger Naira.

The Economics of Detty December
It is that time of the year again when the big cities of Nigeria come alive with vibes, flashy outfits, and endless events.

Chairman, Abia State Disability Commission, Mr David Anyaele, says the voice of women with disabilities are always missing whenever there are conversations around Gender Based Violence(GBV).

He said this when the commission organised a "Dialogue on Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Women with Disabilities" in the state, in support of the First Lady of Abia State, Lady Priscilla C. Otti’s call in the fight against GBV.

The aim is to empower women and girls to build a safer, more inclusive and prosperous state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that event in Umuahia, was part of the activities in commemoration of a 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

16 Days of Activism against GBV is a key international moment to call for an end to violence against women and girls (VAWG).

It runs from Nov. 25 (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until Dec. 10, being the International Human Rights Day.

Anyaele argued that the women with disabilities would be missing when critical issues concerning them and their solutions were being discussed.

"In many states and even at the national level, you see our women struggling and fighting to be carried along, to be recognised and to be part of the conversation" said Anyaele, a person with disability.

Anyaele told the different clusters in the disability community that the commission's was committed to adding the women's voice in the narrative and respond appropriately to their needs in the state.

He said that the objectives of the dialogue were to examine the extent of their knowledge, participation as well as the interventions for them.

The participants who were actively involved in the interactive session, were drawn from each cluster : deaf, blind, physically challenged, intellectual, IDEA and albinism.

Arising from their group discussions, the participants shared their bitter experiences, frustrations as well as discriminations by the members of the public, including some government agencies.

Shockingly, all the clusters said they were not familiar with the laws that protect them against GBV, neither had any organisations enlightened them on GBV in the state.

They urged the commission to train women with disabilities on GBV, in collaboration with the state Ministry of Justice.

Anyaele assured them that their contributions and suggestions would be catalogued, analysed and presented to the governor's wife for further actions.

He appreciated them and promised to invite their male counterparts for a similar interactive session.

A PASSIONATE PETITION AGAINST THE CHAIRMAN OF THE 11TH GOVERNING COUNCIL OF THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, MUBI

The establishment of Governing Councils or Boards for federal organizations, companies, and academic institutions serves the critical purpose of supervising their management.

These councils operate within a framework of laws, established precedents, conventional practices, and civil service rules. However, recent developments at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, have raised serious concerns about the actions and leadership of the Chairman and Members of the 11th Governing Council since their inauguration on 4th July 2024.

We wish to draw your urgent attention to these issues, which threaten the institution's integrity, financial stability, and academic standing.

Background and Initial Expectations

The Polytechnic community initially welcomed the inauguration of the 11th Governing Council with enthusiasm, as its arrival coincided with the need to address pressing matters, including: ng the vacant position of Registrar (who also serves as Secretary to the Council). printing Directors.

Unfortunately, the Council's actions have instead been characterized by indecision, arrogance, lack of administrative competence, and a pretense of omniscient leadership.

Concerns Raised

1. Misuse of Resources and Fruitless Activities

Upon inauguration, the Chairman flew to Adamawa on 9th July 2024 at the Polytechnic's expense, stayed for only 47 minutes on campus, and incurred over M1 million in transportation, accommodation, and feeding costs.

Subsequent Council meetings have resulted in no concrete resolutions, despite the Council consuming over N100 million in just two months.

2. Violation of Governance Principles

The Council suspended the Acting Registrar indefinitely and the Bursar for three months without following principles of natural justice and fair hearing.

Standing committees required by the Polytechnic Act have not been formed.

3. Unilateral and Unauthorized Decisions

The Chairman unilaterally formed 12 committees and appointed members without proper consultation with Management or adherence to institutional norms.

He directed the removal and replacement of key officers, such as Directors of Academic Planning, Consultancy Services, Entrepreneurship Education, and Dean of Student Affairs, in violation of the Polytechnic Act.

4. Interference in Academic and Administrative Processes

Fresh elections were ordered for Head of Departments, despite the lawful election of officers earlier in the year for a three-year tenure.
Unauthorized individuals, including a retired local government officer with a history of financial crimes, have been appointed to key positions, including as Chair of a Council ad hoc committee.

5. Extravagant and Questionable Contracts

The Chairman introduced external companies for managing the Polytechnic portal and security services at exorbitant costs.
The portal management company plans to charge students N5,000 per session, imposing undue financial burdens on students and risking the security of sensitive academic records.

6. Overreach and Threats to Principal Officers

The Chairman has usurped the Rector's executive functions and frequently threatens Principal Officers with suspension or removal.

Implications

The current leadership style has plunged the Polytechnic into financial disarray and disrupted its operations. The institution's autonomy, stability, and academic integrity are at grave risk.

Call to Action

We urgently appeal to the Senate Committee to:

1. Investigate the actions and decisions of the 11th Governing Council.

2. Direct the Rector to disregard the Chairman's unlawful directives.

3. Ensure adherence to the Polytechnic Act and established governance principles.

4. Address the financial recklessness and mismanagement under the Chairman's leadership.

Conclusion

As a 40-year-old academic institution, the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, deserves responsible and transparent leadership. We hope the Senate Committee will address these concerns with urgency and ensure justice, equity, and fair play.
Your prompt intervention will not only preserve the Polytechnic's future but also bolster public confidence in your commitment to upholding the principles of good governance.

In a significant development, a Kano State Hisbah Board official, Malam Aliyu Dakata, has retracted earlier claims that led to widespread allegations of misconduct against Jigawa State’s Commissioner of Special Duties, Auwal Sankara.

The viral allegation which had portrayed Sankara in a negative light, has now been debunked, clearing his name of any inappropriate behaviour with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.

Dakata clarified the situation in a recent interview, stating that Sankara was not involved in any immoral act.

“When we arrived at the scene, we found Tasleem in her car making a phone call, while Sankara was standing in the compound of a building under construction that belongs to him. There was no evidence of any illicit relationship,” Dakata stated, contradicting the earlier narrative that had spread across social media.

The accusations generated a media storm, leading to Sankara’s suspension by the Jigawa State governor.

The legal counsel for Tasleem, Barrister Rabiu Shuaibu further supported Sankara’s innocence, explaining that Tasleem has been estranged from her husband for months due to domestic violence.

“Tasleem has been separated from her husband for over 10 months and is running a business to support her children. On the day in question, she was delivering food to Sankara, who had placed an order, unaware that her husband was tracking her movements,” Shuaibu explained.

In response to the initial allegations, Sankara condemned the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

“These allegations are entirely false and malicious. I have the utmost respect for the institution of marriage and would never engage in such behaviour. This is a deliberate attempt to tarnish my reputation,” he said, urging the public to disregard the fabricated story.

Amid mounting concerns over the upcoming Edo State governorship election, the hashtag #EdoElectionNoBeWar has gained massive traction on social media, as citizens express alarm over reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be arming thugs to disrupt the electoral process.

The viral hashtag emerged following allegations that members of the APC, led by former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu are stockpiling weapons and preparing to deploy violent enforcers ahead of the election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

The reports have caused widespread anxiety in the state, with many fearing the possibility of violence and voter intimidation.

Several social media users are calling for peace and urging all political actors to avoid plunging the state into chaos.

X (formerly Twitter), in particular, has seen an outpouring of messages condemning any attempt to disrupt the democratic process through violence.

"Let us vote in peace! Thugs have no place in our democracy. #EdoElectionNoBeWar," one concerned Edo resident tweeted.

Another user posted, "Elections should be peaceful, not a battlefield. The people of Edo deserve better. #EdoElectionNoBeWar."

The reports of thugs being armed come on the heels of violent clashes in Benin City, which resulted in the death of a police inspector when Shaibu stormed the state recently.

The incidents have heightened tensions in the state, with voters expressing concerns about their safety on election day.

Political observers have also joined the online conversation, warning that the use of thuggery could undermine the legitimacy of the electoral process.

Dr. Anthony Dimka, a security expert, said, "The introduction of armed thugs into the electoral process can elevate tension to dangerous levels. Security agencies must act swiftly to ensure a peaceful election."

Meanwhile, civil society groups and community leaders are urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to step up efforts to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

They are also calling on all political parties to denounce violence and allow the electorate to cast their votes without fear.

The APC has yet to issue an official response to the allegations of arming thugs.

As the hashtag #EdoElectionNoBeWar continues to trend, it is evident that Edo citizens and Nigerians nationwide are united in their call for a violence-free election, where the will of the people, not armed thugs, determines the outcome.

A group called Obidients United For Equity, Justice, and Fairness has accused Mr Peter Obi of neglecting the principle he once upheld.

Ms Blessing Edobor leader of the group in a statement queried why Olumide Akpata who is a cousin of Governor Godwin Obaseki and from the same region be adopted by Peter Obi against the call of the Edo People for Justice, Equity and Fairness.

Part of the statement reads;

"All over the world politics comes with certain incontrovertible demands and such demands are more strident in democracies. There are calls/demands for Competency, Capacity, Commitment to the common good, Credibility and Character, and there are those of Justice, Equity, Fairness and Inclusiveness. Even in the recent choice of Tim Walz as Vice Presidential candidate to Kamala Harris over Josh Shapiro, the fact that Kamala Harris is married to a Jewish American, and that Josh Shapiro the Governor of Pennsylvania is Jewish was a deciding factor."

"In Peter Obi's 2022/2023 Presidential Campaign Council, there was the reflection of balance on account of Religion and Region. Even the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria acknowledges the Federal Character normative. For the reflection of Justice, Equity, Fairness and Inclusiveness in his Campaign Council, Peter Obi chose someone from the South West as Campaign DG, Doyin Okupe, even when he became muddled in some ex-convict controversy and excused himself, Peter Obi did not elevate Eseloke Obaze the Deputy DG to DG but still insisted on another Yoruba man Dr Akin Oshotokun as his replacement. But for Partisanship such deep values that work for balance means nothing anymore to Peter Gregory Obi.. What more defines hypocrisy?"

"When Peter Obi wanted to appoint a Lead Spokesperson for his campaign, he had better orators and proficient Speakers in Kenneth Okonkwo and Dele Farotinmi, but he chose Dr. Yunusa Tanko because he wanted a reflection of Religion and Region, he wanted a sense of balance and inclusion. What he considered right for his campaign, he doesn't consider right for Edo State. What more defines insincerity?"

"Peter Obi's candidacy was endorsed by the South South Forum PANDEF, it was endorsed by Afenifere, it was endorsed by The Middle Belt Forum, and by Ohanaeze all on the call for Justice, Equity, Fairness and Inclusion. Peter Obi cannot deny that. Why does he not think that Edo Central deserves Equity, Justice and Fairness? Why does Partisanship, or selfish ambition blind him to the call of the Edo People for Justice, Equity and Fairness?"

"He has been jumping from podiums to platforms in Edo State spewing invectives and spitting on the same values that made him popular in 2022/2023 which was the call for Justice, Equity and Fairness, yes those were the lead issues that got him huge endorsements. He didn't query the Labour Party when the Party allowed the manipulation of the Labour Party Primaries by Olumide Akpata and Julius Abure against the Candidates from Edo Central. Even when the APC corrected the same error by organizing a fresh Primaries to replace the Edo South Candidate they had earlier chosen with a Candidate from Edo Central. Peter Obi looked the other way, for his personal ambition and comfort, Truth, Justice, Equity Fairness and Inclusiveness can go to blazes."

"Peter Obi would ask for no fresh Primaries to replace a candidate of division and exclusion because his ambition matters more to him than the call for Equity, Fairness, Justice and Inclusion in Edo State. He hid behind 'Olumide Akpata is the Candidate of my Party' to mock the same reason he left the PDP to the Labour Party. Peter Obi left the PDP when it became obvious that Atiku Abubakar was going to win the PDP Primaries, and he along with his supporters in the PDP thought that it was only fair for Power to shift to the South after Buhari's 8 years, how come it doesn't matter to Peter Obi that after 8 years of Godwin Obaseki, Olumide Akpata his Cousin from the same Edo South zone cannot and should not for the sake of Equity, Fairness and Justice be Governor? Is Partisanship more important to Peter Obi than Justice, Equity and Fairness? In Edo, Peter Obi's insincerity has come to the fore."
