The Ebonyi state People's Democratic Party governorship candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii, has refuted claims by Governor Dave Umahi that Ebonyi state would vote APC's Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in tomorrow's presidential polls. He noted that the statement was both reckless and a reflection of the delusions the governor suffers.

Odii noted that Ebonyi state is a PDP stronghold and that nothing will change that. His words: "Umahi insulted the collective sensibility of our people when he said our dear state would vote Tinubu in tomorrow's elections. That's pure fantasy. Our state is by its history and voting records a PDP stronghold. Everyone in the state read that statement with shock and wondered how far gone this governor is. We are not going to vote Tinubu as many people have already made up their minds who to vote for."

He said the PDP have already mobilised for the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, stressing that only the governor and his "micro" crowd will vote differently.

He added, "unless he is suffering from willful ignorance, Umahi should have seen that he has lost the state with his APC posturings. Our people are angry with his militia group, Ebubeagu. He used it to torture our people and now all the people want to do is vote him and his murderous gang out of office. They are doing that to deliver themselves from oppression and intimidation. We wonder why he thinks the people of Ebonyi will vote a party that has been discredited widely. Why should we vote in a Tinubu that is the butt of many jokes and comedies? Are we comedians? We are a much more serious people for that. Many signs exist that our people have rejected Umahi. When the Ebubeagu militia was disbanded by the courts, you needed to have seen the happiness and relief. That's the same relief our people seek as they vote out Umahi and his wicked party, APC."

A Political support group National Alliance for Atiku and Okowa (NAFAO) has once again pledge to deliver 2million votes for Atiku in the forthcoming presidential election.

The group through the national co-ordinator, Hon. Inalegwu Ejembi Adaje called on all State, local government and ward coordinators to ensure strong mobilization for the Saturday presidential election.

Adaje in his address to the press said the hardship experienced under the heartless APC government is enough lesson for Nigerians to use in comparing the APC and PDP and make the right choice by voting Atiku Abubakar.

He also said Atiku remains the only Pan Nigerian who has always work with every section of the country in the past and as such Nigerians should trust the only Unifier at the moment.

Adaje while writing off the other major front runners hit hard on the Obi camp asking them to remain grateful to Atiku for it was his forthrightness that even brought Obi back into lime light and as such can not be a threat to Atiku Abubakar.

"Who would have remembered Obi if it was not four years ago when Atiku insisted having him as his Vice presidential candidate against all the opposition especially from his own southeast governors."

Atiku Abubakar remains a force to beat in the forthcoming presidential election and not even the merging of APC and Labour Party can defeat the PDP, he said.

In an unprecedented display of solidarity, Ebonyi state Hausa Community unanimously visited and threw their weight behind the People's Democratic Party governorship candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii. They also pledge to work assiduously to ensure his victory at the polls. They made this assertion after paying Dr. Odii a visit Thursday at Abakaliki.

Speaking on the visit, leader of the delegation, Alhaji Idris Datti noted that the PDP candidate is the only one who has a plan for inclusion in his campaign manifesto. Datti said the Dave Umahi administration has neglected the Hausa Community and treated it with a lot of disdain.

He said the Hausas in Ebonyi have endured untold hardship under Umahi who has continued to isolate and targeted them in his avowed war against political opponents.

According to Datti the Hausa Community have never had it so bad in the hands of the state government, stressing that Ebonyi state Hausas have no where else to call home other than the state. He recalled that the government of Dr Sam Egwu recognised the Hausas and even made him a Special Adviser but Umahi completely neglected them.

He said, "even when I go to Kano with my children they always say let's go back home. I tell them Kano is home but they insist that they only know Ebonyi. My father's house at Abakaliki is over a hundred years old. I probably speak better Igbo than some of them. Yet Governor Dave Umahi has treated us as third class citizens and have shown us that we are not welcome."

Datti also decried the activities of Ebubeagu militia, noting that the outfit have specially targeted Hausas for ethnic cleansing. He said, "the militia group normally harass everyone but they have a special eye on us the Hausas. They have attacked us unduly and profiled us ethnically. We live in fears of our lives. Yet Umahi will go up North and lie that he's taking good care of us. He lying to our leaders in Abuja."

On the political atmosphere of the state, Datti said the Hausa Community have endorsed the PDP candidate as he (Dr. Odii) have promised to carry them along. He said, "the PDP candidate has clearly shown us he's not going to discriminate against us as Dave Umahi has done. Umahi has enacted policies that have excluded us. One of our big traders here lost close to 80 shops when Umahi suddenly moved the markets. This has led to a serious economic hardship in our community. Umahi has also earmarked our houses for demolition. It took the intervention of the Sultan of Sokoto and other well meaning Nigerians to stop the ugly plan. Some of the houses are as old as a century. He has isolated our traditional leadership by refusing to extend any courtesy to our Sarki (king). He stopped his salaries for no reason. Even when he shared cars, he neglected him."

There was wild jubilation in Ebonyi state Tuesday as news of the Federal High Court disbanding the dreaded Ebubeagu outfit spread. The court said the private police unit have done more harm than good in dealing with political opponents of government.

Commenting on the judgement, residents said it is timely as Ebubeagu has become a monster outfit inflicting untold hardship on the masses through illegal arrests and abduction, torture, frame ups and various anti human rights activities. Residents said they live in constant fear of harassment especially if one belongs to a different political party other than the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

Many have also expressed their concern over the Governor Dave Umahi militia outfit as the 2023 elections draw close, petitioning the police high command.

Consequently, leading opposition figures have maintained that the militia agency was set up to witch hunt them and also to make life difficult for ordinary citizens.

The Human Rights Writers Association HURIWA recently addressed a World Press Conference on the issue, drawing attention to the ills of the outfit.

Specifically, HURIWA had accused the erstwhile police commissioner Garba Aliyu of colluding with Ebubeagu to unleash a regime of dehumanisation.

Aliyu has since been redeployed.

In defence of Ebubeagu, the state's helmsman Dave Umahi said in a recent interview that the outfit was set up to deal with criminality. He lamented the barrage of attack on the outfit by opposition figures He furthered countered that the good deeds attributed to the group far out weigh what the critics were saying. He said the Governorship Candidate of the People's Democratic Party PDP, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii, goes about with a retinue of security personnel.

But a source at the PDP campaign said Umahi was lying about the attacks on Ebubeagu, stressing that, on the contrary, it was the outfit that was attacking and maiming people. According to him Umahi was only crying wolf to distract from the various investigations by authorities.

He stated further that Verdict of the court in Abakaliki was one of the best thing to have happened to the state.

Barely 24 hours after its fresh primaries, many leaders of the opposition APC in the state have expressed dismay at the exercise, stressing that it was illegal. Supporters of one of the Governorship aspirants, Senator Yusuf A Yusuf, for instance, said it was embarrassing to allot numbers to their principal since he did not participate in the re run held at a hotel in Jalingo.

They noted that the action showed that the fresh primaries was pre arranged and designed to cause confusion in the party.

Five aspirants, including Senator Yusuf had earlier said at a Press Conference that they would not participate in the event. They said they were boycotting because of the Supreme Court Judgement that did not accommodate a fresh primaries.

Surprisingly, some of them were still allocated some votes in the exercise that has further deepened divisions within the party.

Reacting to the development, some APC leaders said they may consider legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission for its disobedience of court orders. They accused the electoral umpire of colluding with Senator Emmanuel Bwacha to emerge as the sole winner in a purpoted primaries.

Speaking on the development, one of the party stalwarts, Alhaji Dattijo Falau, said there was an attempt to ridicule the party. He said the exercise did not solve any problem but have created new ones. He said, "the Bwacha camp did not wait for us to solve the problems on ground but rushed to hold a social gathering. There action have further torn the party apart."

Falau said he sensed mass defection hitting the party as many are disenchanted with what the Bwacha camp has been doing.

As petitions mount on the activities of Ebubeagu, the police highest command Tuesday redeployed the Ebonyi state police commissioner, Garba Aliyu. He has since been replaced with Mr Faleye ES Olaleye as the new Commissioner of Police.

Hailing the change, many opposition politicians welcome the development, stressing that a level playing field has been created for the upcoming polls.

It would be recalled that many observers have continued to accuse the police under the command of the former commissioner of siding with the Ebubeagu outfit. A report also revealed that the formation was used in muzzling opposition in the state through intimidation and other oppressive actions.

In a recent report, former Governor of the state, Senator Sam Egwu, narrated how the police stood by and supervised his harassment by the Ebubeagu militia. He said he was on his way to a rally when a blockade by the group delayed his entry into Ebonyi local government headquarters for his campaign. He lamented the fact that the police always appear helpless where Ebubeagu nefarious activities are involved.

Egwu condemned the governor for emasculating the political space, stressing that he (Umahi) was making it difficult for democracy to thrive.

Interestingly, the Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) had also issued a searing statement on the activities of Ebubeagu, accusing Governor Dave Umahi of colluding with the militia to haunt political opponents.

HURIWA, a respected Pro Human Rights body, has since followed up its press release with letters of petitions to the United States Embassy among other foreign missions to deny Governor Umahi Visas.

Consequently, credible sources have revealed that the Inspector General of Police office is currently investigating all reports of the high handedness of the Ebubeagu in the state. According to an insider at the police command, "changing the CP is one of the many ways the IGP is dealing with the Ebonyi state situation. He has also set up an investigation panel into any report of the atrocities of Ebubeagu. The new CP has been told clearly to curtail their menace and move the state away from militia anarchists."

Saturday the 4th of February, 2023 was the day the people of Delta North Senatorial Zone fondly called the Anioma People stepped out in support of the LP Presidential Candidate H.E Peter Obi and his Vice Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmed. It was in furtherance of the need to consolidate the Labour Party control of the political narrative everywhere and anywhere, and to win the many undecided voters over to the Obi-Datti Revolution. It was a day of Music, Dance, Speech Making and Commitment to the project Take Back Nigeria through the Labour Party LP and the Obi-Datti Presidency.

The day began with a Town Hall Meeting in Ibusa which is apparently the largest constituency in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. Ibusa is arguably the most Obidient town in Nigeria, as four of her illustrious sons are members of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council ditto Prof Pat Utomi, Diokpa Delly Ajufo, Dr Nosike Agokei and Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr. Interestingly, Prof Pat Utomi is the National Convener of the BIG TENT which is the Independent Presidential Campaign Council of OBI-DATTI.

The Town Hall Meeting was targeted at inspiring the Obidient Movement at home to greater action, and to ensure that LP wins resoundingly across all the Wards and Units in Anioma land. After the Town Hall meeting the convoy paid a visit to the Oldest Leader and Diokpa of Ibusa who at 103 was excited about the promise of a New Nigeria, he prayed for the Movement and for Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed. The convoy also visited prominent political stakeholders in Ibusa.

It was at the Oshimili South Arcade in Asaba the Delta State Capital that the One Million Man Rally proper took place. We had Speakers like Charles Oputa Charly Boy, Prof Pat Utomi, Diokpa Delly Ajufo, Dr Nosike Agokei, Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr, Johny Mamba, and the relentless Dr. Moses Paul MadMo Lead MC of most of Peter Obi’s Campaign Rallies was on hand directing the show. Indeed it was an evening to remember.

Speaker after Speaker informed the excited crowd about the need to turn things around for good with the instrumentality of their Votes. Use your PVCs justly and vote wisely was the message. Charles Oputa Charly Boy regaled the crowd with one of the latest revolutionary songs in his arsenal whilst encouraging the People to show through their Votes that Our Mumu Don Do’, ‘I’m glad and I believe say our Mumu Don Do’ he said. Dr Nosike Agokei charged the people to rise up to the challenge and Take Back Nigeria for good. He asked them to vote for the candidate who truly can take Nigeria from consumption to production. Johny Mamba a foremost leader of the Obidient Movement in Ika Nation urged the people to remain resolute in their choice of the Obi-Datti candidacy, and to step out to Vote LP in the general elections. Diokpa Delly Ajufo was unequivocal in asking the Anioma nation to vote overwhelmingly for the Labour Party LP noting that Peter Obi is the most reliable of the many candidates in the race for President.

Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr Director of Public Affairs And Lead Spokesperson of the BIG TENT speaking right before the Convener of the BIG TENT Prof Pat Utomi, charged the audience to make real the Promises of Democracy by voting rightly. The people of Kano on Monday, shunned President Muhammadu Buhari who is on official visit to the state after it was initially postponed due to security reasons.

Heavy security presences can be seen on the routes the President is expected to follow.


The streets of Kano were deserted while business premises around the Federal Government Projects to be commissioned remain closed.


Security sources reliably informed Blazonnews that such business premises were forced to remain closed by the stern looking security men while the few people who came out to catch a glimpse where driven 500 metres away from project sites.

President Buhari who enjoyed cheers and fanfare welcoming any time in the state, avoided the roads after arriving Kano and flew by Helicopter from the airport straight to Dala Inland Dry Port project site and to the Emir’s Palace.

However, angry resident at Hotoro Quarters barricaded the road leading to one of the project site in the area with stones and inter-lock blocks, attacking some vehicles in the convoy.

The situation was however, brought under control after tear gas were fired by the police to disperse the crowd who were already burning tyres.


Earlier, there were some disturbing incidences between some of the stationed security men stationed at the Emir Palace and pupils from school which led to throwing stones at the security men.


This development, is however unconnected to what majority of people described as unprecedented hardship forced on the people by Buhari’s Government especially, the recent redesigned naira notes and the initial January 31 deadline issued by the CBN.

As at the time of filing this report, president Buhari is still in Kano and expected to have a break at the state government house for lunch.

Ahead of the February 25th Presidential Election, the National Alliance For Atiku and Okowa has presented a documented report on the plan to canvass and deliver 2million votes across the nation.

It is no longer news that Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello recently quarried HRM Ado Ibrahim, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland over alleged insubordination.

However, findings by Daily News revealed that the allegation of insubordination to the office of the Governor as claimed for the query was far from the truth.

Multiple sources familiar with the crisis claim that Governor Bello is only using the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari as a dummy to dethrone the over 95 years old Royal father.

The sources confirmed to our Correspondent that the Governor on assumption of office 7 years ago has been having no love lost relationship with the first class monarch, HRM Ado Ibrahim.

One of the source said , the monarch has been careful on issue relating to the Governor to avoid collision.

“However, when the issue of Senatorial election begin to gather momentum, Gov. Yahaya Bello who thinks he has done alot for the Central Senatorial zone , deserved support from the royal father who is the custodian of the zone to endorse his candidate.

However, HRM Ado Ibrahim, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland seemed to have tacitly lent his support to Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, candidate of the PDP Senatorial election,” the source said.

More findings indicate that the Monarch’s relationship with the Natasha family dates back to when he was not yet crowned.This assertion is reinforced by the trending pictures of HRM with the mother of Natasha, her senior brother , now a Medical Doctor and the little Natasha.

It was gathered that all attempts by Governor Yahaya Bello to get the support of the Ohinoyi to his Candidate of APC , Abubakar Ohere met brickwalls.

The souces said, “So , Gov. Bello has been looking for an opportunity to punish the royal father and thus the opportunity came when President Muhammadu Buhari visited the state for projects commissioning.”

Another source said aside from the politics of the election, the Kogi State Governor had reconstructed the old palace and asked Ohinoyi to relocate to the place.

But the order did not go down well with the traditional leader who cited the burial of his predecessor Late Omolori inside the palace, an albatross to the Ebira kingship tradition.

The source explained that “on assumption of the stool, the Monarch, had pointed out this anomalies to the then Governor of the state, Late Prince Abubakar Audu who approved for him the use of his personal house as his official palace, -until those circumstances are corrected -the approval which has not been vacated.”

A source noted that on the fateful day, the outer entry gate of the Ohinoyi Palace was heavily blocked by the security personnel while the outer gate , the only outlet for him to go out was bombed by the explosion, as he was holed up in the building.

One of the indigenes who spoke on condition of anonymity said contrary to the expectations of the people, that the Governor will show official sympathy with the royal father, has decided to issue him a query for not receiving the president at the old palace, got to show that Gov Yahaya Bello had sinister motive for the monarch.

Reacting, the Kogi State government shed more lights on the imbroglio between it and the Paramount ruler of Ebiraland, Dr Ado Ibrahim saying that the Monarch was merely asked why he deliberately refused to grace the visit of the president, President Muhammadu Buhari when he visited the state to commision Bello’s legacy projects.

As statement issued on Monday evening by the state Commissioner for Local Governnent and Chieftaincy Affairs , Barrister Salami Momodu Deedat Ozigi stated that since the Royal father has decided to make the matter which otherwise would have been private a public one,the state government therefore has a duty to brief the general public on the issuance of the query.

The Commissioner explained that the Royal father flagrantly refused to receive the President at the newly renovated and befitting official palace chosen instead to remain in his personal house.

The statement read “It has become highly imperative to brief the general public on the issues surrounding the issuance of letter of query to His Royal Majesty, Alh. Dr. Ado Ibrahim CON, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

This is because, what ordinarily should have been an official process has been made public by the recipient of the query and as such the public deserve to be abreast with the truth and isolate it from falsehood.”

The Commissioner said that “the reconstructed palace of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland which was commissioned by the President and Commander-in-Chief of Nigerian Armed Forces has all along been the official palace/residence of successive Ohinoyi of Ebiraland”.

According to him “It is on record that when President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR visited Okene in the year 1984 as a Military Head of State, it was in the same palace that he was received by the then Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, late Alh. Sanni Omolori. The palace has been remodeled and reconstructed to a magnificent edifice that every son and daughter of Ebiraland could be proud of”.

However, he said that “the current Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, His Royal Majesty, Alh. Dr. Ado Ibrahim CON opted, on his own, chose to stay in his personal house and use it as a palace, that does not erase the fact that there is an official palace built over the years for Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

He explained that when the idea to reconstruct the palace to make it befitting for the revered stool of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland was muted, he (Ohinoyi of Ebiraland) was sufficiently consulted and he gave his consent.

“Upon the completion of the project which has received commendation from far and wide and the date for the commissioning by the President was approved and announced, I personally paid a visit to Ohinoyi of Ebiraland and I duly informed him of the programme of event. Although he responded negatively that he would not attend, I persuaded and entreated him to kindly attend in view of the importance of the project and especially the personality of the President that would commission the project.

It is now known to all sundry that he made good his negative disposition not on any account of ill health or circumstances beyond his control, but a deliberate act of disloyalty and insubordination to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Executive Governor of the State”. He added.

According to him,”It may interest the public to know that the official visit of Mr President to Kogi State to commission projects was not limited to Okene alone, sundry projects were commissioned by the President in Lokoja, the State capital. To this effect, the President, Kogi State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty, Matthew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa, Attah Igala led other Royal Majesties and all 1st Class Chiefs from both East and West Senatorial Districts and from their far domains to receive the President at the designated venue in Lokoja.

It is therefore left for the public to judge if it was fair and appropriate for His Royal Majesty, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, whose private residence is a few meters away from the venue of the commissioning of the palace and being the principal beneficiary of the project to stay put in his house while all the Graded Chiefs within the Central Senatorial District were present in solidarity with him to honour and receive the President.”

Yahaya Bello is a responsive and responsible Government and will not allow any person or group of persons no matter how highly placed to ridicule, humiliate and cast aspersion on or disdain the genuine intention of this administration to usher unprecedented development in the State. Actions that are tailored towards disloyalty, insubordination and that which tends to affect the peace, security, good image and cohesion of the State will not be treated with levity. This administration will continue to ensure that this State is governed by the rule of law, respect for authority and humanity and the guarantee of equal rights for all citizens.

A friend of mine, who is a journalist, visited me during the festive season on his way to a state that shares borderlands with Gombe. While we drove into town to have some fresh air and to show him around, unlike him, he was quiet and worried. I asked him what could be the reason? He answered me with some few fretful questions: is APC the only political party presently in Gombe State? How possible is it to have only one political party having their flyers, posters, flags and billboards across the state? What about the faceless posters and billboards I see torn all over the state capital?

I smiled and I asked him to open his phone and read from Google the definition of the word democracy. Below was the exact definition he read to my hearing, "Democratic leadership, which is also commonly known as participative leadership, is about letting multiple people participate in the decision-making process. This type of leadership can be seen in a wide range of contexts, from businesses to schools to governments".

Having read that, I smiled and I told him the question he needed to ask was whether democracy still thrives in the state or it has been murdered a long time ago, awaiting its funeral? He asked me to explain, but I told him to do investigative journalism, and find out for himself why this is so.

Two days later, he shared some disturbing videos of campaigns by the ruling party. Having watched those videos, I almost broke into pieces. It suddenly dawned on me that democracy has been long lifeless before we all knew about it. We are at the moment in a despotic and totalitarian system of leadership. I shared the videos with my lawyer, some leaders of the said party at the national level and some high-ranking associates in the States and asked them the repercussions of those contents and I was knocked for six to hear the degree of the contagion in those videos.

Writing about such a noxious state of affairs is definitely a waste of time. It took me days to recuperate from this life's coercions and other things I heard the led telling their followers to do to fellow citizens in their quest for power in those obnoxious videos. Words like gobble them if they..., deal with them if they..., scratch their bodies if they... by force or money we will win the elections, and one could see these innocent youths yelling on the top of their voices in agreement to this catastrophe and calamity that will soon come upon the people if care is not taken.

The truth still remains, posters, flyers and billboards will not be on the line in February to vote, humans will and their votes will be a statement of their fate.

We hope democracy is brought back to life in Gombe State as soon as possible before we lose total hope of the future that lies ahead of us.

Let's all ponder on this question as we head to the polls in a couple of days, does democracy still thrive in our state or has it long been murdered and awaiting its funeral?

The power to resuscitate our state lies on our thumbs.

A political support group "National Alliance for Atiku and Okowa (NAFAO) has assured the PDP of the group readiness to deliver 2million votes for Atiku come 2023 general election.

Prof. Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr, Convener “CountryFirst Movement” and a supporter of Peter Obi Presidential candidacy has called on all Nigerian Youths to retire the present generation of irresponsible leaders through the ballot paper come 2023.

Nwaokobia Jnr stated this to mark the two years memorial of the lekki massacre through a statement via his official Twitter and Facebook handle.

He stated that the gruesome carnage and massacre was against a generation that sought to right the wrongs of the most irresponsible government .

He admonished the youth to unsure their voices is heard in the forth coming election through peaceful ballot based People's Revolution for a New Nigeria.

Anyaele, Executive Director, Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), has said the current set of Nigerian leaders have failed to reduce poverty in the land as they have continue to consciously or unconsciously contributed to the growing number of persons with disabilities due to their inability to tackle the increasing number of Nigeria going into extreme poverty.

Anyaele in a press statement to mark the International day for the eradication of poverty also call on Nigerians as the 2023 general elections are around the corner to make poverty reduction a key campaign issue.

The statement reads: "October 17 annually is recognized as International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. It is a day to solidarize with people living in extreme poverty, in particular persons with disabilities, women, and children. It is also a day for sober reflection, and an opportunity to ask ourselves questions as a people on the extent we have contributed to the increase or reduction of poverty in our societies".

"The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Dignity for All in Practice”. The dignity of the human being is not only a fundamental right in itself, but constitutes the basis of all other fundamental rights. The 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights enshrined human dignity in its preamble:"

‘Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and, the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.’

"As an organization of, and for persons with disabilities, we are worried that while other countries of the world are taking steps to reduce poverty within their societies, the increasing number of Nigerians that are experiencing extreme poverty is very alarming. According to a World Bank report titled “A Better Future for All Nigerians: 2022 Nigeria Poverty Assessment", poverty reduction has stagnated since 2015, with more Nigerians falling below the poverty line over the years. The international organization projected that the number of poor Nigerians to hit 95.1 million in 2022".

"In other reports, Nigeria has been classified as the poverty capital of the world. This is because while the population of Nigeria is growing, the poverty situation is also competing with the population increase in the country".

"The most challenging aspect of this situation is that people living in poverty experience many interrelated and mutually reinforcing deprivations that prevent them from realizing their rights and perpetuate their poverty, including but not limited to dangerous, but degrading working conditions, unsafe housing, limited access to nutritious food, limits access to justice, stiffen access to political power and hinders access to healthcare services amongst others."

"This demoralizing poverty situation in Nigeria is manmade; fuelled by bad governance and corruption in the high places. Unfortunately, when people fall into poverty, their chance of acquiring disability becomes wider, as poverty has been linked as a major source of disability, even as disability pushes families into extreme poverty".

"The current set of Nigerian leaders have failed to reduce poverty in the land. They have consciously or unconsciously contributed to the growing number of persons with disabilities due to their inability to tackle the increasing number of Nigeria going into extreme poverty".

"As the 2023 general elections are around the corner, we call on Nigerians to make poverty reduction a key campaign issue. Amina Yahaya Okeke , a chieftain of the PDP and Media head of the PDP governor's forum has asked Nigerians to support the presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar.

Okeke described Atiku as a unifier, a man with many competencies and the only hope to the restoration of Nigeria lost glory.

Okeke while addressing the media on the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar said the youth and women won't be left out when Atiku is sworn in as president come 2023.

Anyaele, Executive Director Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has said this year's International Day of Sign Language is an opportunity for citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to reflect on the extent to which we accommodate citizens of our country that do not speak or hear the way we do, in particular persons with hearing impairments that use Sign Language as a means of communication.

Anyaele in a press statement personally signed congratulated the Deaf community for this year’s international Day of Sign Language.

He said it is an opportunity to ask critical questions on the extent to which Nigeria include Deaf persons in governance and socio-economic activities in the society; the extent of availability of Sign Language interpreters in Nigeria that could support the teaming Nigerians with hearing impairment.

The statement read further ," The theme of this year’s International Day of Sign Language is “Sign Language Unite Us”. This theme is apt for Deaf community in Nigeria as the primary beneficiary of Sign Language. This is because being Deaf in Nigeria attracts exclusion, isolation and stigmatization as well as poverty".

"Recognizing that over 80% of Deaf persons in the world are living in developing countries, with millions of Nigerians having one level of hearing impairment or the other; acknowledging that Sign Language is the major channel for accessing the world by the Deaf community, yet its awareness among Nigerians is very low".

"Appreciating that the major form of communication between the Deaf community and members of their society is through Sign Language, which is a tool for social interaction for Deaf persons; and concern that access to Sign Language for Deaf persons in hospitals, schools, government institutions and other public centres are very limited, if not impossible. One wonders how the persons with hearing impairment in Nigeria are coping with such a harsh society".

"Pleased that sections 24 and 25 of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 requires public hospitals and the government to ensure that persons with disabilities are given special considerations, including provision of special communication during situations of risk, emergencies (such as Covid-19) and other natural causes. Yet implementation is the real mountain to be removed for Deaf community to feel united in Nigeria".

"Sign Language is the surest way of encouraging the Deaf community's participation in the electoral process, as evidence shows that many political parties make no provisions for it".

"It becomes imperative to call on the Federal Ministry of Information in collaboration with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities to ensure awareness creation on Sign Language in Nigeria; and for the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities take appropriate steps to promote and recognize Sign Language as a lingua franca in Nigeria. This is to reduce the gap between the Deaf community and the larger society".

"Incentives should be provided by Federal and State governments to encourage and increase more students enrollment for Sign Language studies in our higher institutions. This is to ensure availability of Sign Language Interpreters in every location in Nigeria to support the increasing number of Deaf persons; even as the need for capacity building on sign language usage in our public institutions has become imperative".

"INEC and Political parties must ensure availability of Sign Language interpreters during the forthcoming General elections even as campaign kicks off ending of this month".

"No one should be left behind by reason of hearing impairment, as such with access to Sign Language to Deaf community, will not only unite us a people, but would go along way towards promoting inclusive society free from discrimination on the grounds of disability, and hearing impairment in particular", He said.

The National Alliance for Atiku and Okowa a group canvassing for the emergence of former vice president Atiku Abubakar as Nigeria's Next president has condemned the attempt to link Alhaji Tukur Mamu the arrested 'Bandit Negotiator' as an allay to Atiku Abubakar as mischievous and evil.

The group in a press statement signed by the National Coordinator, Mr Inalegwu Adaje called those behind the act as cheap blackmailers and enemies of Nigeria.

Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has called on the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu to without hesitation sign into law the Abia Disability Bill after the legislative document scaled the mandatory third reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly on Wednesday.

Executive Director, Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), David Anyaele in a statement welcomed the passage of the bill; pointing out that the action of lawmakers in the State House of Assembly has further demonstrated the commitment of the State government to the welfare and wellbeing of the people of Abia State especially those living with disabilities.

"I received with joy today the news of the passage of Abia State Disability Bill by Rt. Hon. Chinedu Orji led House of Assembly. The passage of this bill is a strong demonstration by the Abia State House of Assembly that all lives are precious, in particular the lives of Abians with disabilities".

He said the bill when passed into law will mark the beginning of a new era of liberty and freedom and the end of the years of marginalization, exclusion and even discrimination Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have endured in Abia State as a result of the absence of such a robust legal framework.

"Persons with disabilities in Abia State are the most excluded in governance at the subnational level in Nigeria due to absence of legal framework for the protection of the rights and dignity".

"With the passage of this bill, the end of exclusion of Abians with disabilities in governance by State and none State actors is coming to an end".

The CCD boss called on the Clerk, Abia State House of Assembly to ensure the bill is urgently transmitted to Governor, Ikpeazu for prompt assent to the bill.

"I called on the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu not to hesitate to sign the bill into law as his wife has committed so much to get this bill passed"
