Politics / Security: Kogi Responds As 11 Bandits Fell To Superior Firepower by Abel7777: 9:05am On Sep 20, 2021
A group of bandits terrorizing some parts of Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State have met their waterloo as officers of the State Vigilante Group killed 11 of them and arrested others while 3 kidnapped victims were rescued successfully

According to information at the disposal of our reporters, Security operatives acting on intelligence, nabbed an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Inspector Abdullahi Saidu who alongside a friend supplies the criminals with weapons and information to undertake their heinous crimes

The successful operation by the security operatives was carried out in series working with credible intelligence.

A source within the Kogi State Vigilante Service had this to say: ”Alaidi is their ring leader. He was killed during the first camp attack. Rabo and seven others were crushed. Madei and one other were killed in the second kidnappers' camp while Umar escaped with gunshot injuries but was recaptured".

They also confirmed that five of the kidnappers arrestsd, including the civil defense operative were in the custody of the Department of State Security for further investigations.

Reacting the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Muhammed Onogwu noted that such security success by the operatives was a welcome development and a proof that the security architecture of Kogi State was strong and solid enough to quash all forms of criminal vices

He opined that the Local Vigilantes across the state have continued to record good results because of the morale boost and support the Governor has continued to give as well as the cooperation from the citizens and synergy between the security operatives

Onogwu noted that the continued efforts of the Kogi State Government to keep the momentum as the safest state in the country were so far yielding remarkable results noting that the Governor has severally made a commitment to securing the lives and property of the citizens and make the state a no go zone for criminal elements

He reiterated that Government at all levels would continue to make efforts towards sustaining the drive for a peaceful Kogi state by making every nooks and cranny of the state unsafe for criminal elements and their sponsors.
In the same vein, security agencies are on the trail of kidnappers who were reported to have carried out attack on certain individuals in Kabba.
The State Government said it is in touch with security agencies and that the Governor already gave a marching order that those kidnapped must be rescued and the perpetrators apprehended.
A source within the Kogi State Security circles who doesn't want his name in print said they are getting "encouraging headway" in their operations against the kidnappers.

Politics / Yahaya Bello One Of The Best Performing Governors In Nigeria- Group by Abel7777: 11:19am On Sep 17, 2021
The Convener Got Your Back Nigeria ,Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr ,has called on Nigerians to rise above sentiment and fake news as it regards to kogi state governor.

Prof Chris in a press statement said governor Yahaya Bello is doing his best to transform Kogi state.

The statement reads:

"Is the young man that superintend the State of Kogi from the Lugard House in Lokoja one of the best performing Governors in Nigeria, today? The answer is YES in caps. Is his watch over Kogi uneventful and mediocre? The answer is a NO in caps. So you wonder why he courts the flak of political opponents like ants and honey. Don't bother too much, they criticize him, they oppose him, and they lie against him and the State of Kogi because he doesn't belong to the cult of egocentric and self serving political operators. He has done, and is yet doing great things in Kogi".

"Have you wondered why lately there is an uncanny desperation to de-robe Kogi State of her deserving feat as the safest State in the North and the second safest State in the whole of Nigeria? It is about the politics of 2023. It is about the wickedness of selfish politicians and the ungodly quest for power by all means devious, foul, impish and impious. But do not despair just yet because the Security agencies in Kogi are compiling the names of the agent provocateurs and their sponsors, and shall as always bring them to book. Yahaya Bello has kept that promise several times over, and regarding the contrived jailbreak a few days ago, tell the rumour mill that almost all the fleeing convicts are back in custody. And tell them that we are watching".

"If they are not contriving violence, they are sponsoring falsehood in the media. If they are not procuring and sponsoring violence, they are lying and paying the media to build mountains out of mole hills. And if they are not lying about salaries that have since been cleared, they are sponsoring mendacity in the media about corruption and monies allegedly fixed in Banks, tales most unfounded and demonic. How more confused and wicked can they be? But their lies, won't stick".

"Against Kogi State and Yahaya Bello is a growing hoard of soulless lie mongering, rumour churning, falsehood growing, deceit cultivating, blackmail dishing and tale feasting political hirelings, their brief is satanic and wicked. But then again their lies won't stick because we are ready, willing and able to puncture their devious script with the bludgeoning fervency of TRUTH".

"The truth is that Kogi State under the watch of the 46years old Technocrat in Lugard House fondly called GYB, Governor Yahaya Bello is the safest State in the North, and the second safest State in Nigeria, and adjudged so by all available Security Index locally and internationally".

"The truth is that Kogi State is the most gender sensitive State in Nigeria, with the longest serving female Secretary to State Government in Nigeria, with mind blowing minimums like females as Local Government Council Deputies in all the Local Governments where men serve as Chairmen, with females as Speakers of all the Local Government Council Legislatures, with the only Female ADC to a Governor in Nigeria, and the highest number of women in any State Government (cabinet) in Nigeria. Kogi State surely stands out as a manifest example of what governance and leadership must be".

"The truth is that Kogi State tops the chart in the servicing and cutting down of local debts. The Accountant and Auditor cum Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello has clearly excelled in the management of the States resources such that beyond the effective running of the State, he has been able to service and also reduce the local debts of the State. So tell the liars and the peddlers of falsehood against GYB that their lies won't stick, and that the truth shall always prevail over falsehood".

"The truth is that Kogi is not owing her workers, and Kogi State is not owing Medical Doctors and Health worker at all. We shall therefore consistently debunk the perfidy and the chicanery of political jobbers and their pay masters, yes their lies won't stick, as Kogi will consistently remain a question mark on their conscience, nay on our collective conscience".

"The truth is that Lokoja the capital of Kogi State is presently one of the fastest growing cities in Africa. Do your research and avoid the blinding deceit of blackmailers and haters who wonder at the capacity and the competency cum magic of the magician called Governor Yahaya Bello GYB".

"The truth is that in Kogi State under GYB's watch is one of the most functional Rice mills in Nigeria. In Kogi State is the biggest health facility in West Africa over 60% done. In Kogi State today is one of the most effective Skill Acquisition programs in Nigeria, and that Kogi State is one of the best agriculture friendly State in today's Nigeria. So when you hear the lies of the conscienceless political operators out there, confront them with the unequivocal truths that we put before you".

"We shall continue to point out the lies that they trade against GYB whilst putting the records straight. And we shall not relent in meeting their falsehood with the unwavering and redemptive force of TRUTH".

"We shall continue to drum up and consistently raise the phenomenal Youth called GYB as the bastion of the new deal for Nigeria come 2023. And we shall relentlessly call our nation to the politics of ideas and policy rather than falsehood and mudslinging. God Bless Nigeria". He Said

Politics / Late Keniebi Okoko’s Legacies To Be Immortalised by Abel7777: 4:21pm On Sep 15, 2021
The legacies of late multi-billionaire businessman and politician, Pastor Keniebi Okoko (1978 – 2020), is set to be curated and made public via a memorial microsite that will be launched in October.

A product of prestigious citadels of learning including the University of Port Harcourt, Carleton University Canada and Harvard Business Law, Okoko shone brilliantly in the business world, where he rose to quick prominence in the Oil and Gas sector, before venturing into the volatile political space in 2019, driven by a desire to make Nigerians wealthier and erase the poverty mindset of the masses.

Before his untimely demise at 42, Okoko made an unprecedented and significant impact in the socio-political space of the tumultuous Niger Delta, specifically in Bayelsa where he hailed from and aspired unsuccessfully but remarkably, to be the youngest governor of the state in 2019.

Okoko was known for promoting education, empowering youths and the less privileged in the society; and had bright chances of victory at the gubernatorial polls, as a community and bridge builder that he was, if he had not lost the party primaries.

The memorial microsite which is being put up by his family and friends, is expected to serve as an inspiration to many, particularly youths and will feature the many impacts he made in the short space of time that he lived.

Other features of the website www.kenniebiokoko.com include current testimonials from beneficiaries of his empowerment programmes, his plans for the state as an aspiring governor, his philosophies of life as captured in his many public appearances and speeches among other short documentaries.

Politics / The 9th Senate Won’t Fight President Buhari – Orji Kalu by Abel7777: 12:02pm On Sep 14, 2021
The Nigerian Senate will not pick a fight with President Muhammadu Buhari, says Orji Kalu.

Mr Kalu is the Senate’s chief whip.

He stated this on Tuesday at the National Assembly.

“The Senate is not a rubber stamp, it is just that we have done things differently. There are many things the Presidency has sent to the Senate that we rejected, and we reject it at the level of leadership and send it back to him,” said Mr Kalu. “There is no need to fight with the President because our job is to complement the efforts of the executive, to give them the chance to give Nigerians good governance.”

According to him, the Senate’s duty “is not to fight.”

But, he noted, “if we want to fight, we join the Nigerian Army and carry the gun to fight.”

He explained that the senators’ duty “is to make laws and ensure we stabilise the polity by ensuring there is a good relationship between the judiciary, executive and the legislature.”

Mr Kalu claimed that the Senate “has been very successful in bringing the budget before December each year.”

The chief whip added, “This is the job of the legislature. We don’t want to enter into unnecessary controversies with the executive. We have fought many times with the executive, but quietly. People can call us any name. But I can speak out my mind to say we are not rubber stamp(s).”

A former governor of Abia, Mr Kalu, further stated that there was cooperation in the Senate.

“This Senate is very cooperative, and we are one family. Since I joined politics, I have never seen a family like the Senate. The Senate is one united family, and I can testify to that,” he stated. “When I had my problem in prison, a lot of my colleagues, including the Senate leadership, showed a lot of compassion towards me. Every other senator tried, but senators Sani Musa, Kashim Shettima, and Ibikunle Amosun were exceptional.”

Business / Naira Continues To Fall Helplessly , Now N550 To A Dollar by Abel7777: 6:56pm On Sep 13, 2021
Nigerian naira has further dipped in the parallel market as it now sells for a whopping N550 against the dollar, according to Aboki FX, a popular forex trading platform.

The naira, which sold at N548/$1 Monday morning, now sells at N550/$1 in the evening of the same day.

The local currency has continued to depreciate, despite efforts by the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to salvage what’s left of its value.

On July 27, Mr Emefiele halted sales of forex to Bureau De Change (BDCs) operators across the country.

This has caused a heavy scarcity of the dollar which is one of the highly demanded foreign currencies.

Nigeria, which consumes more products than it manufactures, has continued to suffer heavy inflation over the unending rise of the dollar.

The depreciation in the value of the naira translates to a heavy hike in the prices of imported products such as milk, sugar, rice, electronics, cars, and many other consumables

Politics / Aisha Buhari Reveals Why She Shared Pantami's Video by Abel7777: 5:49pm On Sep 13, 2021
The First Lady, Aisha Buhari has shed light on why she posted a video of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami giving a sermon, where he cried.

She had captioned her first post, “A Reminder. Achire tsoro ayi abinda ya dace,” in Hausa language, meaning, ‘Be courageous to do the right thing’.

In her latest post, Mrs Buhari said, “Tafsir na Malam kan tsoron Allah ba tsoron mutum ba!

“Da aka cire tsoro da son Kai aka shiga Jihar Zamfara, abubuwa sun fara kyau. Sai a dage a shigo sauran wurare da ke bukatan haka.”

This is translated from the Hausa language to loosely mean, “Mallam (Pantami) is preaching about the fear of God and not of man. As fear and selfishness have been removed in the case of Zamfara State, positive results have started to show. It is left for the those in charge to take control in other states in need of intervention.”

Politics / Abducted Zamfara Pupils Regain Freedom by Abel7777: 8:50am On Sep 13, 2021
The 75 pupils of Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State who were abducted on September 1, 2021, have regained their freedom.

The Nigerian Television Authority broke the news via its verified Facebook page overnight.

Nigerian Police had reported that gunmen abducted more than 70 students in the country’s northwest state of Zamfara.

Zamfara State Police spokesman, Mohammed Shehu, had said in a statement that a large group of attackers stormed the Government Day Secondary School in the remote village of Kaya that Wednesday morning, seizing the pupils. He had given the number of seized children as 73.

“The abduction followed the invasion of the school by large numbers of armed bandits,” he had stated.

Shehu said that Police rescue teams were working with the military to secure the release of the pupils.

The bandits later returned five of the pupils within 24 hours.

A former councilor of Kaya ward, Yahaya Kaya, said that his niece was among those released by the bandits; adding that the five freed pupils had been returned to their hometown of Kaya.

It is not yet clear if any ransom was paid before the pupils were released.

Following the abduction, the Zamfara State Government had ordered the immediate deboarding of boarding facilities in 30 schools.

In reaction to the abduction, UNICEF, on September 3, said it was horrified by yet another attack on an educational institution in Nigeria.

The UN agency, in a Press release distributed by the APO Group, stated, “Of the abducted students, 23 students escaped and returned home – two of them with bullet wounds. The abducted students are aged between 14 and 19.”

“We strongly condemn this attack, which has happened just a few days after kidnapped students of a school in Niger State, north-central Nigeria, were freed,” said Peter Hawkins, UNICEF Representative in Nigeria. “We call on the authorities to take expedited action to rescue these students and reunite them with their families.”

“We reiterate that attacks on schools and abduction of learners are a gross violation of children’s rights, and a horrific experience for children to go through – one which could have long-lasting effects on their mental health and overall well-being,” said Peter Hawkins.

“Schools must be safe; no child should experience any harm because they went to school, and no parent should come to grief for sending their children to learn,” said Hawkins.

Politics / Nigeria Needs Federal Ministry Of Fulani Herdsmen – Sheikh Gumi by Abel7777: 10:04am On Sep 12, 2021
Fearless Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi on Friday called for the establishment of a federal ministry to address the grievances of bandits and killer Fulani herders terrorising the country.

Mr Gumi, a self-appointed intermediary in the ongoing crises of banditry and killer herdsmen, said in a Facebook post on Friday that bandits should be rehabilitated like Niger Delta militants, adding that declaring war against bandits would be futile.

“Some said we have tried amnesty but it didn’t work. You didn’t try amnesty but tried amnesia. Amnesty without rehabilitation, reconciliation, and reparation is no amnesty,” Mr Gumi said. “Ask the former Niger Delta Militants who killed security men in the past what an amnesty is. What stops us from having a federal ministry of Nomadic Affairs where their grievances and complaints will be addressed?”

President Umar Yar’Adua implemented an amnesty policy that saw the rehabilitation of thousands of Niger Delta militants who had waged a decade-long war on oil facilities across the region. The militants lamented economic deprivation and environmental degradation that assailed the oil-rich region, drawing both sympathy and condemnation from different segments of the society.

The militants accepted political and economic solutions, including the creation of a Niger Delta ministry, proposed by the Yar’Adua administration and relinquished their arms and ammunition, marking an end of hostilities that saw the destruction of oil installations and deadly attacks on local and expatriate oil workers.

Mr Gumi’s statement came days after Katsina Governor Aminu Masari openly admitted that Fulanis are the bandits and herders responsible for the widespread killing and abduction across the country.

Mr Gumi said his efforts to get amnesty for bandits and killer herdsmen have been sabotaged by President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to deploy troops against violent criminals.

“Some disingenuous people say: peace and negotiations with herdsmen bandits have failed, and your mission has failed! I said my mission has not failed but it was sabotaged or discouraged by the same influential people that benefit from the chaos or like us to destroy ourselves and leave the herdsmen in perpetual ignorance,” Mr Gumi said.

Politics / PDP Crisis: Wike Tells Mark Panel He Won’t Withdraw Cases Against Secondus by Abel7777: 9:14am On Sep 12, 2021
Governor Nyesom Wike, has said he will not withdraw the lawsuits against the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, because he does not trust the chairman to honour agreements.

Wike disclosed this in a meeting with the Senator David Mark-led committee set up by the PDP National Executive Committee to resolve the party’s crisis.

The bid by Secondus to seek re-election and the determination of the Rivers State governor to stop him is reported to be the genesis of the crisis.

The Mark-led panel had met with Secondus and Wike with a proposal that they both withdraw pending lawsuits to pave the way for the peaceful resolution of the crisis.

While Secondus agreed to withdraw on the condition that the other party does the same, Wike insisted on going ahead with his.

The report submitted by the Mark-led committee quoted Wike as insisting that the “court cases instituted would not be withdrawn because of the lack of confidence in the other party to keep agreements”.

This was contained in the report submitted by the committee to the party’s NEC at its 93rd meeting in Abuja, on Thursday.

Crime / U.S. Court Jails Nigerian For $2.5m Romance Scam by Abel7777: 8:16am On Sep 12, 2021
A United States court in the Northern District of Oklahoma on Friday sentenced a Nigerian, Afeez Adebara, to four years in prison.

Adebara bagged the jail term for managing a group of money launderers in an online romance scam that defrauded multiple victims, including elderly individuals across the U.S., and caused losses of at least $2.5 million.

According to a statement by the U.S. Department of Justice, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering on November 3, 2020.

Court documents and testimony revealed that between 2017 and November 2019, the 36-year-old and his co-conspirators knowingly concealed the proceeds of a romance scam operation by moving money between and among multiple bank accounts that were opened under various aliases, using fake passports and other fraudulent identification documents to obscure the source of the funds and the identities of his accomplices.

He was said to have taken further steps to conceal the source of the funds, took a commission for himself, and sent the remainder of the funds back to the online romance scammers in Nigeria, including in the form of vehicles and vehicle parts.

“Adebara coordinated with overseas co-conspirators who had assumed false identities on online dating websites and social media platforms to defraud victims,” said the statement. “Adebara opened multiple accounts using fraudulent identities, then provided the account and routing numbers to the overseas co-conspirators. The overseas co-conspirators told victims that they were U.S. residents working or traveling abroad.

“As the online relationships continued, the overseas co-conspirators requested increasingly larger sums of money, with the claimed purpose that the funds were needed to complete business projects or for them to return to the United States.

“The victims were directed by the overseas co-conspirators to send funds to certain bank accounts, with an assurance that the money would purportedly be allocated as needed.”

Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite Jr. of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, Acting U.S. Attorney Clinton J. Johnson for the Northern District of Oklahoma, and Special Agent in Charge Melissa Godbold of the FBI-Oklahoma City Field Office made the announcement.

FBI’s Field Office in Oklahoma City conducted the investigation with assistance from the agency’s San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York Field Offices.

Trial Attorneys Babasijibomi Moore of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Nassar of the Northern District of Oklahoma prosecuted the case.

“This case is part of an ongoing national effort by the Department of Justice to address online fraud schemes, including those based out of Nigeria, that target U.S. citizens and residents,” the statement added.

Politics / War Of Words: Sheikh Gumi Calls Femi Adesina A Bootlicker by Abel7777: 5:35pm On Sep 10, 2021
Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has said he’s not a bandit-lover, in an apparent response to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

Adesina, in an article titled, ‘I Like This Pampering. Don’t You?’ had hailed the military for its offensive against bandits in the north.

The military’s action was faulted by Gumi who said those at the receiving end “are going nowhere,” adding that “they are already in battle gear.”

Without mentioning the cleric’s name, the presidential aide had said, “A bandit-lover is on record as saying military offensive would not work, and that the bandits “are going nowhere.”

“True? False. They are going somewhere. And that is: hell.”

Reacting, Gumi, in an article titled, ‘War Has Never Been A Solution Anytime Anywhere,’ dissociated himself from the bandit-lover tag.

He said, “You bootlicker that called me a bandit-lover! I am not one, but my country-lover, my region-lover, my state-lover, and my people-lover, and humanity-lover.

“I am a qualified medical doctor who knows what it takes to precisely excise a brain tumour without destroying the delicate surrounding brain tissues. I was a commissioned military officer who knows what the military is for and what is the capability of our military. I am an intellectual with a PhD from abroad. I am an Islamic scholar who knows the immorality of killing innocent lives. So, silence for me in this ocean of oblivion is not an option.

“Only a fool would allow his dwelling to be a theatre of war. Unfortunately, how many fools are there. Killing rats in your rat-infested sitting room with an iron rod will only end up destroying your gadgets and furniture probably without killing any. We should not mask out poor governance with artillery power.

“Some disingenuous people say: peace and negotiations with herdsmen, bandits have failed, and your mission has failed!

“I said my mission has not failed but it was sabotaged or discouraged by the same influential people that benefit from the chaos or like us to destroy ourselves and leave the herdsmen in perpetual ignorance.

“Some said we have tried amnesty but it didn’t work. You didn’t try amnesty but tried amnesia. Amnesty without rehabilitation, reconciliation, and reparation is no amnesty. Ask the former Niger Delta Militants who killed security men in the past what an amnesty is. What stops us from having a federal ministry of Nomadic Affairs where their grievances and complaints will be addressed?

“All the bandit leaders we saw complained of how some repentant ones were picked and extra-judicially killed after the surrender of their weapons. Without their trust of the very unjust system all Nigerians complain of, which they took arms to fight, peace and negotiations with them will not work. This brings our role of mediation. They know as religious men we will not deceive them, and they came out in troops to meet us. To our astonishment, it is the same unjust system that turns round to betray our peace mission. Some of the press for giving a negative narrative, whom I also term criminals-in-purpose, some of the politicians who I see as urban-bandits who out of their share mismanagement of our meagre resources and misplacement of priority cause the death and infirmity of more people than the bandits affect.

“Of recent, how many Nigerians die of cholera -a water-born disease- because of lack of simple clean water to drink, or typhoid, malaria, and malnutrition? A nation with a maternal mortality rate of almost 500,000/annum because of the lack of adequate maternal health facilities and qualified staff. A country where its highly-priced medical personnel is looking for a window to escape the inferno. Such a country, please!”

Politics / VAT: Kogi State Opposes Lagos, Rivers by Abel7777: 3:40pm On Sep 10, 2021
The Kogi State government has said it will not involve itself in the pursuit to retain the Value Added Tax as embarked on by the governments of Lagos and Rivers.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, had signed a bill on VAT followed by an order requiring businesses to henceforth pay VAT to the state and not to the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

He announced that the payment of VAT to the state will commence this September.

This was after a judgment by a federal high court in Port Harcourt restrained the FIRS from collecting VAT in the state.

The Lagos State government, in line with the judgment, also passed a VAT bill and asked the FIRS to stop collecting VAT from businesses in the state.

The move by both states was opposed by Kogi State through the Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Fanwo, in an interview with Arise TV on Friday.

He said, “We are not created equally, and God that created us did not give us equal potential, and we have to support one another.”

Speaking further, Fanwo said, “This call shows that some of our leaders are insensitive, self-centred and trying to make policies that will further divide the country.

“Kogi is bordered by about 10 states of the federation and a gateway to the north, south, to everywhere. And you know that thousands of vehicles transverse the state on a daily basis. It’s the mineral capital of Nigeria. When you look at our advantages, we should even be at the forefront of fighting for VAT to be completely retained in the state.”

He continued, “When you look at the development of the South-West in those days — the cocoa house — and the groundnut pyramids in the north, the whole of Nigeria is reaping the benefit till today. And what we need to do at this material time as leaders is to stop thinking about ourselves alone.

“The position of governor Yahaya Bello on this is very clear: we will not jump on that bandwagon to call for the retention of VAT completely in the state. We are not created equally, and God that created us did not give us equal potentials, and we have to support one another.”

Politics / Bullets Fired At Lekki Toll Gate Were From Nigerian Army – Forensic Expert by Abel7777: 3:27pm On Sep 10, 2021
A forensics company, Sentinel Forensic Limited, has said that bullets expelled from firearms during the #EndSARS protest in Lagos on October 20, 2020, were from the Nigerian Army.

The company’s representative, Joseph Kayode Funsho, disclosed this during an appearance before the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution which sat on Friday.

According to Funsho, the live ammunition (bullets) were discovered to have been registered to the Nigerian Army.

He, however, said the blanks didn’t match the records from the Nigerian Army’s inventory.

The case was, thereafter, adjourned to Saturday, September 11, for further hearing.

The company’s findings, however, seem contrary to claims of the Nigerian Army.

In November 2020, Commander of the 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Brigadier Ahmed Taiwo, who appeared before the Judicial Panel insisted that only blank bullets containing gunpowder were fired at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20.

He also insisted that the military only fired into the air and not directly at the #EndSARS protesters.

While explaining that the blank bullets used, cannot cause any damage to the flesh, Brigadier Taiwo said if real bullets were indeed fired, one bullet had the potency to kill three persons at one shot.

Business / Naira Hits ₦550 To A Dollar, EFCC Warns Banks Against FOREX Fraud by Abel7777: 9:47am On Sep 10, 2021
The Naira was at a record low against the dollar on Thursday, depreciating to nearly N550 at the unofficial market from N530 at last week’s close as demand for the greenback from importers continues to bump up against scarce market liquidity.

Checks in Kano revealed the record high forex rate especially at the Kano’s popular Wapa BDC market in Wapa, where forex traders said as of Thursday evening, a dollar was exchanging for N549, and that it could even exceed N550 before the close of the day.

Aminu Shua’ibu Malan, a trader in the market, said: “Prior to the last three days, it used to be around N520, but has now reached N550.

“This is caused by the high demand by importers and its scarcity courtesy of this Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy. We are afraid that if this policy continues, a dollar could reach about N600-N700, which will surely spell doom for our economy.”

The traders, who said that there is no hope in sight as to when the Naira will appreciate, called on the apex bank to have a rethink on its dollar ban policy in order to save the country’s economy.

In Abuja, the Naira continued a free fall, shading off about N12. At the Wuse Zone 4 BDC market, most of the forex traders sold the naira for between N540 and N542 to the dollar, as against about N528/$1 last week.

A BDC operator named Sumaila said he sold for N540/$1. He also said the price has spiked because even the banks don’t sell to BDCs, yet most SMEs get their forex funding needs from BDCs’ supplies.

Some other BDC operators said they sold the dollar for between N540 and N542.

Ibrahim Audu, a forex hosteller who prospects for customers at Wuse Zone 4 Abuja, told our Correspondent he could arrange for N542/$1 if the Correspondent would sell up to $10,000.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos showed that dollars exchanged for between N530 to N535 at the parallel market.

“We started at N525 this week and it has continued to rise because of high demand,” says a Bureau De Change operator.

“We don’t even understand it again. They said banks should give dollars and when you go there, they would tell you there is no dollar. The banks too have become Bureau De Change,” another BDC operator, who identified himself simply as Hassan, said.

“We now sell at N529, N530. We hope very soon, things will change and CBN will reconsider their stand,” he added.

EFCC reads riot act to bank heads

In the meantime, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, has warned banks against fraudulent election financing, foreign exchange malpractice and money laundering.

Baba gave the warning on Thursday during an interactive session with managing directors of banks at the Lagos Zonal Command of the commission.

According to a statement by the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujiaren, the anti-graft agency boss charged the bankers to comply with the guidelines of CBN on the issuance of Personal Travel Allowance, PTA, and Business Travel Allowance, BTA, to their customers.

“You need to ensure full compliance with regard to knowing your customers and ensuring that you do not give opportunities for foreign exchange malpractices,” he said.

Pointing out the salient issues EFCC will tackle, Bawa said, “Some of the issues we have identified include foreign exchange malpractices and fraudulent election financing.”

‘Banks selling to cabals’

The Chairman of BDC Operators, Local Airport, Mr. Danladi Sunday blamed the CBN for the development.

He said while the CBN had directed commercial banks to sell dollars, the banks only supply to “cabals.”

“The stoppage of dollars to bureau de change is the cause of this problem. The CBN said they would be giving to commercial banks and the commercial banks are not selling to everybody, they are only selling to their cabals,” he alleged.

“And once the demand is higher and supply is lower, definitely, the money is going to be high. The solution now is for the CBN to call us back. Once they call us back, the money would come down.”

Trading Desk Manager at AZA Murega Mungai said: “Despite the current weakness, the central bank on Tuesday said it still expects the country’s unofficial and official rates to converge.”

The Naira was trading at 411.30 to the dollar on the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Rate Fixing (NAFEX) window this week. We expect the currency pressure to persist in the coming days as demand for forex continues to outweigh supply.

Business / Nobody Can Accuse Me Of Corruption – Buhari by Abel7777: 9:31am On Sep 10, 2021
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said he has kept himself free of corrupt acquisitions, hence no one can accuse him of corruption.

Mr Buhari made this assertion at a town hall meeting with leaders of the South-East region in Imo.

The president made the claim despite reports of corruption by his aides and close associates, who remain unconvicted.

The president also touched on other issues pertinent to the Igbos.

‘‘If there is no security, there is nothing anyone can do no matter how much you try or the initiative you have.

‘‘Security is number one priority and then the economy. When people feel secure they will mind their own business,’’ he said.

The President told South-East leaders that while fighting corruption in Nigeria had become very sophisticated and difficult, he would continue to strive to leave a lasting legacy of integrity and accountability in the system.

‘‘Nobody can accuse me of having companies or mansions anywhere in the country and I thank God that I try to keep myself as clean as possible, so that I cannot be taken hostage.

‘‘I will do my best to ensure that Nigerians that try hard, succeed in their efforts,’’ he said.

On the forthcoming 2023 elections, the President reaffirmed his commitment to free, fair and credible polls, urging the leaders to honestly educate their constituencies on the need to hold their elected representatives accountable.

Acknowledging the resourcefulness and enterprising spirit of Igbo people, the President said:

‘‘The fundamental thing about the Igbo people is that there is no town you will visit in Nigeria without seeing the Igbos being in-charge of either infrastructure or pharmaceutical industry.

‘‘Therefore, it is unthinkable for me that any Igbo man would consider himself not to be a part of Nigeria.

‘‘The evidence is there for everyone to see that Igbos are in charge of Nigeria’s economy.’’

Noting that no country can make any meaningful progress without the development of infrastructure, the President expressed regret that successive governments at the Federal level contributed to the decay of critical infrastructure in the country.

He promised that the Federal Government would complete ongoing key projects in the South East, including the 2nd Niger Bridge as well as the railway lines and routes linking the region with other parts of the country.

‘‘I firmly believe that when you get infrastructure right, Nigerians will mind their own businesses,’’ he said, adding that as a group, the Igbos stand to benefit more from the ongoing development of infrastructure in the country because ‘‘they are more enterprising.’’

President Buhari had earlier commissioned four projects executed by Governor Hope Uzodinma, including the Naze/Ihiagwa/Nekede/Obinze link road, the Balloon Driven/Flood Control drainage at Dick Tiger Road, the Egbeada Bypass road and the New Exco-Chambers, Government House, Owerri.

Addressing Imo residents at the commissioning of Egbeada bypass named after a prominent son of the State, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President said he was very impressed with the level of work done by the State government.

‘‘I am very pleased with what I have seen and I assure you that I will support Imo State within the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,’’ he said.

In his remarks at the town hall meeting, Governor Uzodinma said Ndigbo believe in a united Nigeria predicated on ‘‘justice, equity and fairness.’’

He thanked the President for addressing the interests of Ndi Igbo through deliberate policy initiatives designed to give the people a true sense of belonging, including the ongoing construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge, among others.

Governor Uzodinma said the people of South East would remain grateful to the President for approving the establishment of a Naval Base in Oguta Local Government Area of the State, adding that as time unfolds, the economic benefits of the base would manifest.

The Governor also commended the President for strongly supporting the appointment of two prominent Igbos into two key international organisations-Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Assistant Director-General of Health Emergency Intelligence, World Health Organisation (WHO).

In his remarks, the President-General, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof. George Obiozor assured the President of the continuous support of Ndigbo.

‘‘Ndigbo are committed to Nigerian unity and there is news for those trying to push us out of Nigeria.

‘‘Ndigbo in Nigeria are like fish in the ocean and no matter how rough the storm is, it cannot drive the fish out of the ocean.

‘‘Mr President, it is in this context, that we see a new dawn in your distinguished presence in Igbo land and believe that on your return to Abuja the significance and substance of this visit will form new foundation of a platform for meaningful dialogue on critical issues of concern to the Igbo nation,’’ he said.

Politics / Kogi State Not Owing Salaries, Tops Chart In The Servicing Of Local Debts - Grou by Abel7777: 4:18pm On Sep 08, 2021
A Group Known as Got Your Back Nigeria has thrown their support for Governor Yahaya Bello of kogi state.

Prof Chris Nwakobia, the Convener of the group in a statement titled "Don't Swear On Their Falsehood: Kogi is Not Owing Salaries And Kogi Tops The Chart In The Servicing Of Local Debts".

Called out certain individuals who have decided to descend so low in choosing to propagate falsehood against truth and facts , all for political reasons , he also called that such individuals should desist from lies and do research before coming out to the press.

"I was compelled to do this write up by a debate I had a few days ago with someone who should have proper figures about governments and governance in Nigeria, but refusing to research and authenticate the figures, he was ready, and chose against facts and logic to swear on the falsehood bandied everywhere by the political adversaries and opponents of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello".

"The truth is that the Government of Governor Yahaya Bello inherited a workers wage bill of over 50billion naira, the truth is that at some point Kogi was owing over 24months of salary, the truth is that at some point every Dick and Harry pilloried the government of Yahaya Adoza Bello for owing workers in the State, and at some point the cliche was 'Yahaya Bello is owing workers several months of salary', in all of the hoopla no one cared to know how the huge wage bill came about. However the story is absolutely different today, not seeking any justification for the huge wage bill and the months of unpaid wages, the young man fondly called GYB went to work, he was able to increase the internally generated revenue of the State from 300/400million naira to over 1.4billion naira, and he was also able to prudently and proficiently deploy the Federal Government Bailout funds to clear the backlog of Salaries in Kogi State. And today, Kogi State is not owing her workers".

"Against glaring facts, naysayers would swear that Kogi State under Yahaya Bello is not doing profound, unfortunately they are either blinded by hate or too lazy to verify, research and or interrogate the figures. They swear that Yahaya Bello is not an exemplary leader and that he is not the worthy bastion of the Youth O'Clock movement ditto the call for a Youth to become the President of Nigeria come 2023. But what more can be further from the truth".

"At 46 Governor Yahaya Bello sits as the second term Chief Executive Officer of the State of Kogi, and not only has he been able to clear the over 50billion naira backlog of workers salary, he has reduced the local debts of the State more than most Governors have been able to do in their States. Indeed Kogi tops the chart in the servicing and reduction of local debts, which attests to the credence, the integrity, the competency and the capacity of the young man who superintend the State of Kogi".

"From Kogi being the State where bombs and IEDs were manufactured by Boko Haram before the Yahaya Bello administration, to Kogi being the second safest State in Nigeria under the Governor Yahaya Bello GYB watch, what more attests to competency and capacity? Or have we forgotten that the primary responsibility of government is the safety of lives and property? On Security, GYB has done better than 95% of the other Governors in Nigeria, that makes him the unassailable bride of the Youth O'Clock fervency, and the lead choice for President come 2023".

"Do you know that Kogi is the most gender sensitive State in Nigeria? Do you know that Kogi State has one of the most effective and functional Rice mills in Nigeria? Do you know that from the COVID-19 stimulus package Kogi State is 60% gone in building the biggest and the best Health facility in the whole of West Africa? Do you know that Kogi State is not owing Resident Doctors even a week of Salary? Do you know that Lokoja the capital of Kogi State is one of the fastest growing cities in Africa? And do you know that the average age of the Kogi State cabinet is 42, GYB is therefore the most credible validation of the Youth O'Clock fervency".

"Compatriots, when politicians churn out falsehoods and perfidy, please don't swear on their lies, verify, validate and interrogate the figures, for only the truth can set us free".

"I will close this piece with the indelible words of Sir Walter Scott which shall pass for a reprimand to those whose stock in trade is falsehood, deceit, blackmail and chicanery, 'O what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive'. Be guided, for on Yahaya Bello your deceit and falsehood will not stick. We shall continue to win going forward with no greater weapon than TRUTH. God Bless Nigeria".

Politics / Group Blasts Amnesty Int'l And The National Assembly For Kangaroo Committee by Abel7777: 11:27pm On Jun 25, 2018
Nigeria Islamist extremist group Boko Haram has been waging a terrorist’s war against the Nigerian State for over a decade yet Amnesty International instead of supporting the Nigerian military to combat the deadly insurgents that have maimed, killed and orphaned millions of children in northern Nigeria is manipulating and orchestrating a campaign of calumny against the Nigerian military.
In a press statement in Abuja Monday by Agenda for Peace and Security in Africa (APSA) and signed by the National Co-ordinator, Comrade Ishola Isiaka, he lamented that the so-called Amnesty International report alleging cases of rape by men of the Nigerian armed forces at the camp of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) was baseless and malicious.
The group chided Amnesty International for constantly engaging in acts and comments antithetical to humanity by defending Boko Haram terrorists and criminality who has been propagating violence and hatred for western education in Nigeria.
It also lambasted the National Assembly for constituting a kangaroo committee to investigate the alleged atrocities at the IDP’s camp instead of being on the side of the Nigerian military knowing fully well AI’s style of blackmail and propaganda against the Nigeria military.
The National Co-ordinator emphasized that the National Assembly should rather join hands with the Nigerian military to appropriate more funds for the Nigerian military so as to enhance the purchase of military equipment and the standardization of human capacity development for the overall sustenance of peace and security in Nigeria.

Speaking further the group admonished Amnesty International to partner with the Nigerian military to crush the Boko Haram insurgents so as the end the bloodshed, misery and poverty are being inflicted on a regular basis on the people of north-east by the Boko Haram insurgents instead of supporting Boko Haram against the military.
The group noted that well-meaning Nigerians are totally on the side of the Nigerian military and will continue to support its efforts of combating terrorism and criminalities across the length and breadth of the country and called on the international agencies to lend their support at eradicating this menace once and for all. It enjoined Nigerians that security is every body’s business and we must share intelligence with the security agencies so as to forestall any security breach within the country.
Concluding, Agenda for Peace and Security in Africa urged Amnesty International to embrace the international war against terrorism in Nigeria as Nigerian military scales up its war against the Boko Haram insurgents noting the Buhari Administration has performed creditably in combating the deadly terrorists in Nigeria.
Despite spirited entreaties by the Nigeria Army to Amnesty International for a balanced report, it appears that the so-called human rights advocacy group is bent on truncating Nigeria’s nascent democracy by pitting the public against the Nigerian State.
The Nigeria Army, according to the group, is complying with the rules of engagement and must not be distracted in her avowed commitment to restore peace and security in the North East.

Politics / Group Blast Amnesty International Over Mischievous Allegation by Abel7777: 3:57pm On May 29, 2018
A group, Professionals for Better Nigeria (PBN) has condemned the recent reports released by the Amnesty International (AI) on the operations of the Nigerian Army describing it as false, mischievous and malicious allegations made to undermine the efforts and sacrifices that have been made by the Nigerian Army to rid the country of criminal elements and terrorists in the country.
The group said that the Nigerian Army are carrying out their responsibilities in line with its assigned constitutional role of the protection and safeguard of the territorial integrity of the country and the protection of lives and property.
PBN National Coordinator, Diokpa Obi Iwanka and Comrade Chimeze Oyiuke
Publicity Secretary in a statement on Tuesday, said the reports by Amnesty International against the Nigerian Army "is a systematic ploy and agenda orchestrated in order to change the narrative against the Nigerian Army and win the support of its citizens in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents."
According to PBN, as champions of transparency, accountability and good governance in Public Service and the total wellbeing of Nigerians for the development of the country, the reports from Amnesty International is not only biased but unpatriotic and a smear campaign of calumny against our hard fighting and patriotic Nigerian military, whose only crime is not allowing the Boko Haram insurgents to override the territory and occupy the Nigerian state.
The statement read: "It is on record that whenever the insurgents have an upper hand, the AI says nothing, but when the Nigerian Army is having its way on ravaging and decimating the terrorists, AI comes into the foray, to bash and accuse the Nigerian Army of crimes against humanity. It is obvious that AI has continued to undermine the sovereignty of Nigeria by leading a psychological war on terror against the people of Nigeria while the insurgents are on the battle front to capture the territories.
The recently orchestrated reports on the Nigerian Army is not only malicious, mischievous and a fallacy but a wicked lie from the pit of hell, cooked up allegedly by AI to paint the Nigerian Army as rapists at the camps of Internally Displaced persons (IDPs).The continued attacks by AI and its cohorts have lend credence to the belief in the public domain that AI have fallen short of its mandate by championing the course of terrorists, defending criminals, and criminalities across the country.
The deliberate blackmail, witch-hunt is unfortunate and mischievously carried out by AI against the Nigerian Army since 2011. The said report is not only spurious, wicked and mischievous but a fabricated fallacy by a frustrated human rights body in its deliberate plans to change the positive and proactive narrative of the Nigerian Army and portray it in bad light by undermining its constitutional responsibilities in favour of the Boko Haram insurgents, for its own personal agenda and self-serving."
The noted that the orchestrated smear campaign against the Nigerian Army in the media "by AI and mischief makers are intended to drag the Nigerian military into odium and public ridicule and also put it in a negative public perception."
"Our worries stem from the fact that these narrative from AI donning the garb of human rights watch is calculated to tarnish the hard fought war by the Nigerian Army including the loss of lives by our officers and men infavour of the Boko-Haram insurgents, because overtime, the reports have favored the terrorists rather than the Nigerian military."
PBN therefore, urged Nigerians to be vigilant and not to be hoodwinked by these reports from AI as "they are not patriotic and do not have the interest of the nation at heart.
The group said that the reports are biased and lopsided and called on Nigerians to jettisoned such claims and give full support and cooperation to the military.

Business / FG Lauds BON Hotels On Home-grown Skills In Nigerian Hospitality Sector by Abel7777: 7:13pm On Apr 26, 2018
The Federal Government said it will continue to encourage investments in diverse sectors, particularly the hotel, tourism and hospitality sectors of the economy as part of plans to diversify the economy.

Speaking during the launch of BON Hotel Abuja on Tuesday, the Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, said with investments coming into various sectors of the economy, that Nigerians will gradually develop international and home-grown skills that will sustainably keep the economy in top shape.

The Deputy Senate President commended the BON Hotel Group for emphasizing their strategy of local skills and training in the Nigerian hospitality sector, pointing out the group made their home-grown policy known when they entered the Nigerian hotel management arena some two years ago.

According to him, recent reports issued by the group which indicates that the number of Nigerian managers coming through their program shows BON Hotel’s commitment to skills development and transfer for Nigeria and Nigerians.

Speaking at the launch of the newly refurbished BON Hotel Abuja, the Chairman of BON Hotels International West Africa, Mr. Otto Stehlik, said he is extremely pleased at the progress of the BON group, saying BON Hotel recognized the need of skills development when it began operating in Nigeria.

“We put together a transformation program, which the board identified as a priority. We are finally in a

position where we have a team of elite Nigerians who have been trained, educated, skilled and, importantly, mentored to head up and be supported by senior executive management and head office.

Stehlik said this idea formed an ideal base for future growth in Nigeria on all levels, saying It’s apparent that BON Hotels have a sincere strategy of tapping into the skills and expertise of seasoned hoteliers of upskilling local talent.

Giving insights into how far the group has come, the Executive Director of BON Hotels International West Africa, Mr. Bernard Cassar, said the organization is proud that its hotels across Nigeria is peopled by mainly Nigerians and a few expatriates staff have have devoted their energy into transferring their knowledge and abilities to eager Nigerian recruits.

“We are able to boast from the rooftops that more and more of our hotels are managed on a senior level by locally trained Nigerian staff. This strategy has been a work in progress, when as far back as 2001, Nigerian individuals were identified and fast tracked to form a new generation of localized senior managers”.

According to the BON Hotel executive director, of the 25 hotels which BON hotels manage across Nigeria, 80% of their general managers, deputy managers, senior management, department heads and executive chefs have, over the last two years, been trained, skilled and promoted to senior level positions by the group.

He explained that the Nigerian management headed by a Nigerian, Mr. Paul Umoh, who, from his position as executive director and major shareholder at BON Hotels International West Africa, has been one of the many local Nigerians who have been fast-tracked through the transformation policy, adding Umoh heads up the on-the-ground operational management of the Nigerian hotels.

Pointing out that multinational Nigerian hotel sector has been run and managed by expatriate leaderships imported from countries such as the United Kingdom and South Africa in the past, Casser said the predisposed support of imported staff, imported raw material, and imported supplies with very little local encouragement is one that BON Hotel has come to address, adding in two years, that BON Hotels has been able to identify the right talent within their ranks and has placed a strong focus on fast-tracking and supporting their home-grown program.

Business / NADDC Driving Nigeria’s Development Through The Automotive Sector by Abel7777: 5:17pm On Mar 14, 2018
By Meshack Idehen

Since coming on board as the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, (NADDC) about a year ago, analysts and stakeholders within and outside the automotive industry said there has been a marked and positive difference in Nigeria’s quest to become the hub for auto design and development in Africa and beyond.
This positive development is coming, even as other observers and industry experts said the Nigerian government is now committed to diversifying its economy that had been largely dependent on gas and oil-dependent, with policies now matching developmental actions.
In the past, Nigeria, they said, did not have an expert to drive its automotive design and development policies, but was always keen to tap into the unlimited potential that the automobile manufacturing industry represents, particularly with the hope that keying into these opportunities will help create thousands of jobs and draw large-scale investment from global car-makers around the world.
However, considering the pace with which the industry has been growing since the current leadership of NADDC led by Mr. Jelani Aliyu came in place, industry watchers said there were now hopes that the desires of the Federal Government for the automotive industry are now being realized.
United Kingdom based African Development Expert, Dr Mike Uyi, said the NADDC under Jelani Aliyu has been effectively utilizing the policy mandate of government, and has through that boosted local car production, reduced vehicle imports, and created industry wide skill acquisition opportunities for talented Nigerians.
“NADDC’s work under the current leadership has been guided by an automotive policy of the government that the current director general has been utilizing to draw global multi-billion dollars auto investments into Nigeria, like that with Nissan that was recently concluded”, he said.
It would be recalled that only few weeks ago, and as part of its continuous bid to make Nigeria the automotive design and development epicenter of Africa, Jelani Aliyu’s NADDC concluded arrangements to partner with global auto manufacturers, Nissan Automobiles International.
That initiative came even as NADDC fortified its efforts at creating more skills and job opportunities for Nigerians through its auto test centers located in various parts of the county.
Nissans Executive Vice President for Africa, Middle East and India, Mr. Peyman Kargar, at the event, said Nissan, through its partner, Stallion Motors has pledged its commitment to make more significant investments running into billions of dollars in Nigeria’s automotive sector.
According to him, “Nissan vehicles assembly plant which already covers over 380 hectares in Lagos, and produces four vehicles brands including patrol, Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), Almeria Sedan Urban Mini buses and Pick-up trucks will grow its investments and footprints in Nigeria”.
The global auto manufacturers also reiterated that it was committed to working even closer with NADDC due to the current leadership, in order to develop the automotive industry in Nigeria due to their belief in the work that the NADDC is doing.
According to experts, it is noteworthy that while the Nissan’s initiative is ongoing, that NADDC is also currently and very actively working with other global automobile manufacturers, including BMW, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen towards setting up operations to produce brand new ones right here in Nigeria, thereby employing thousands of Nigerians in the process.
Commending the NADDC for its foresighted plans for Nigerians in the automotive industry, Automobile Engineer, Mr. Daniel Yahaya said NADDC has structured the National Automotive Industrial Development Plan in full support of local automotive manufacturing, and is continuously working with relevant stakeholders to provide a vehicle financing scheme so Nigerians won’t have to put down 100% cash when buying new cars.
With these initiatives already being put in place, he said Nigeria will move from a place where there are few highly expensive cars and millions of cheap very old ones, but a place where there are millions of modern new cars and even more of current high end ones.
Giving insights into how the country will benefit from these initiatives recently, the Director General had disclosed that NADDC is in process of building three test centers in Lagos, Enugu and Zaria to make sure that the cars and components produced, sold and used in the country are world standard.
According to him, “NADDC is working on building Public Private Partnership (PPP) Automotive supplier Parks in Nnewi, Kaduna and Oshogbo that would go into automotive components production, and the agency is engaging a consortium of original components manufacturers that supply the big global automotive companies, which will support as part of a body of many international technical partners.
It was gathered that through the support and initiatives of the council, that strong support are going the way of local automotive producers, while other manufacturers such as Honda, Ford, Fuso and Yutong are already producing vehicles in Nigeria.
“Innoson is producing its own vehicles in Nnewi. Peugeot in Kaduna has introduced new models that it produces. Nigeria would soon start production of advanced vehicles used in developed countries”, Yahaya said, while praising the director and NADDC for bringing life into the industry.
On his part while insisting that Nigerians will soon stop driving old and dilapidated vehicles due to the proactive measures of the NADDC, United States of America based industry expert, Mr. Dominic Okoji, said every Nigeria will soon be able to afford and use a brand new vehicle that is safe, effective and efficient if NADDC will continue to work with very strong and relevant partners.
Pointing out there less than 10 operational assembly plants in Nigeria before now, Okoji said since approving the policy, and the coming of the current NADDC’s leadership, that over 30 global car-makers, including Toyota and Honda, have obtained licenses to begin car assembly in Nigeria.
To facilitate the place of Nigerians in gaining world class skills and opportunities in the automotive sector, the NADDC has also moved on to partner with the N-Power Programme of the government in order to identify, train and produce world class auto technicians that will service the nation’s auto industry.
The initiatives from NADDC, it was gathered, will create limitless opportunities for the industry in Nigeria, particularly jobs for the nations teeming youths, while credible auto workshops around the country that will partner with the council in training of the mechanics and technicians have already been identified. The Nigerian technicians training will be based on both local and global transport needs.
Chief Executive of Red Code Limited, an auto development company, Mr. Ayoade Olaide, said since Jelani Aliyu came on board as director general of NADDC, that there has been a marked difference in Nigeria’s quest to become the hub for auto design and development in the continent.
He said the NADDC director general and his team will help create thousands of jobs and draw large-scale investment from global car-makers. Nigeria’s government and citizens can tap into these potential.
Not fazed by these staggering paces of development in the industry, the NADDC director general has consistently maintained that a Nigerian vehicle that is conceptualized designed and developed by Nigerians for Nigerians in Nigeria can make the country Africa’s auto hub.
“A Nigerian vehicle designed specifically for the Nigerian populace. A vehicle in tune with the history, culture, environment and economic structure of the people, and I think we are heading there,” Aliyu added.
Making reference to a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) report which show that locally assembled cars which only accounted for 15% of car sales in 2014 could rise to 70% by 2050 depending on economic growth, Industry Watcher, Mr. Theophilus Ikedili, said Jelani Aliyu’s appointment is timely as an excellent move that will make Nigeria occupy its proper place as far as global automotive industry was concerned.
Ibrahim explained for a man that was immediately noticed by an American multinational corporation that designs and markets vehicles after graduation, and beginning his career as a design staff at General Motors, that even critics agree that Jelani Aliyu is considered by many as the super star of the General Motors renaissance, saying as the head of the NADDC, that Aliyu, will excellently implement new development policies for Nigeria’s automobile industry.

Business / NADDC Driving Nigeria’s Development Through The Automotive Sector by Abel7777: 4:12pm On Mar 14, 2018

Politics / Rights Group Blast Transparency International Over Anti-corruption Report by Abel7777: 9:15pm On Feb 26, 2018
International Human Rights Group, Global Peace Movement International(UK), has come out to challenge Transparency International over the recently released global anti- corruption index released by the group.

GPMI(UK), said the released corruption perception index by Transparency International was very wrong, inaccurate, out of tandem with current realities and does not represent facts.

According to Global Peace Movement International, it has become a pattern for Transparency International and its co traveler in falsehood; Amnesty International, to always try to rubbish the work and commitments of Nigeria’s active anti- corruption and security agencies whenever progress was being made
.
President General of GPMI(UK), Dr Mike Uyi, in a strongly worded statement issued from London on Monday, and made available to journalists in Nigeria and London, said, the position of Transparency International on the war against corruption in Nigeria was yet another scheme meant to becloud Nigeria’s glory and downplay the great work the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) was doing.

The Global Peace Movement International President wondered how Transparency International arrived at its anti-corruption perception index, just when few weeks ago, 52 nations in the African Union recognized and gave Nigeria an award in its anti-corruption campaign.

Describing the report as an international conspiracy to weaken EFCC’s fight in the campaign against anti-corruption, Dr Uyi said Nigeria cannot bow to international conspiracy and what he said was the theory of unknown ratification.

According to Dr Uyi, “EFCC is the number one anti-corruption agency in Africa, and the 11thBest Anti-Corruption agency in the world. There is no gang up or conspiracy in the world that can stop or erase that reality”, the global peace movement international president said.

Challenging Transparency International to come forward with empirical evidences on how they arrived at their conclusions on Nigeria, Dr Mike Uyi revealed that GPMI(UK) will be holding a world press conference in London and Nigeria in order to present the true anti-corruption index on Nigeria to the world, adding the fight to eliminate corruption is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.
