Five people inside a Gulf car and four haulage vehicles and their occupants on Sunday morning were kidnapped around Tashar Tsuntsaye near Kuriga, along Brinin Gwari – Kaduna highways. This incident came barely ten hours after the arrest of a fake army officer by a civilian and a captain in the Nigerian Army currently on holiday after his assignment at Sambisa forest. Chairman, Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, said in a statement that, “Today, Sunday 30th September 2018, five vehicles were intercepted by armed bandits at “Tashar Tsuntsaye” near Kuriga along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highways. Five people inside a Gulf-three car from Birnin-Gwari were kidnapped around 10.30am, while four haulage vehicles and their occupants were also kidnapped. “We are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in Birnin-Gwari until all terrorists and armed bandits are subdued and degraded.” While urging the people to remain calm, he said, “We hereby issue a forty-eight hours ultimatum to the army to inform the general public, the true identity of the fake army colonel and his collaborators in Birnin-Gwari no matter how highly placed they are in our community. ”Also, we urge the government of Kaduna State to show the world that they are concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Birnin-Gwari by a simple statement that will calm the nerves of our people they abandoned since after the massacre of seventy-six people at Gwaska. “As we await the response of all authorities concerned, we once again urged the peaceful people of Birnin-Gwari that are surviving without peace and security to remain calm and not take laws into their hands.” The State Police Public Relations Officer, Yakubu Sabo promised to update our reporter on the true situation, when he was contacted http://dailypost.ng/2018/10/01/gunmen-kidnap-many-passengers-along-brinin-gwari-kaduna-highways/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |

Two policemen attached to a bank in the Okota area if Lagos state have been arrested for beating up a businessman identified as Damilola Durodola. Punch Metro reports that Durodola who drove a KIA vehicle, was on his way to work on Thursday when he ran into a traffic allegedly caused by a pothole in front of the bank. He had taken the bank’s premises to evade the traffic when he was reportedly challenged by one of the policemen, Ezekiel. The 28-year-old was allegedly held by the cop, who also called his colleague, Haruna, on the telephone. He said: “I WAS GOING TO MY PLACE OF WORK AT SURULERE ON THURSDAY WHEN I RAN INTO TRAFFIC ON OKOTA ROAD. THERE WAS A POTHOLE IN FRONT OF THE BANK, WHICH MOTORISTS WERE AVOIDING. THAT WAS AROUND 8.05AM. “I OBSERVED THAT THE BANK’S CUSTOMERS’ PARKING SPACE WAS EMPTY BY THAT TIME, SO I DECIDED TO USE IT TO GO OUT. I WAS APPROACHING THE EXIT WHEN THE MOBILE POLICEMAN, WHO WAS IN A POLO SHIRT AND KHAKI TROUSERS, FLAGGED ME DOWN. “I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NORMAL CONVERSATION, SO I WAITED. HE ASKED ME TO REVERSE. I TOLD HIM THAT IF I DID THAT I COULD CAUSE TRAFFIC FOR OTHER ROAD USERS. HE STARTED HITTING MY CAR AS HE HELD ON TO MY SHIRT. “I DROVE ABOUT EIGHT BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE BANK. THE MOBILE POLICEMAN BROUGHT OUT HIS PHONE TO MAKE A CALL. A FEW MINUTES LATER, I SAW ANOTHER MOBILE POLICEMAN ARRIVING ON A MOTORCYCLE. HE HAD A GUN AND AN IRON ROD IN HIS HANDS. WITHOUT HEARING ANYTHING FROM ME, HE BROKE MY WING MIRRORS AND WHIPPED MY EYE WITH THE IRON ROD.” The victim said a crowd mobbed the policemen and queried them for beating him up. Durodola said while in pain, he held on to his assailant. “I TOLD HIM THAT HE WOULD GO NOWHERE FOR ASSAULTING ME. HE COCKED HIS GUN AND THREATENED TO SHOOT ME. “THE MOB FOUGHT THE POLICEMEN AND THE BANK OFFICIALS CAME OUT TO INTERVENE. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, A TEAM OF POLICEMEN ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AND SHOT INTO THE AIR TO DISPERSE THE CROWD. “SUDDENLY, ONE OF THE POLICEMEN HELD ME AND SAID I WAS HARASSING A UNIFORMED MAN; THEY WANTED TO TURN THE CASE AGAINST ME. THE MOB CAME BACK AND RESCUED ME,” HE ADDED. The victim said he called and narrated his ordeal to the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, adding that the senior police officer asked him to report the case at the command headquarters in Ikeja. PUNCH Metro learnt that the case was referred to the office of the provost, who directed some senior police officers to follow Durodola to the Okota Police Station and the bank to identify the mopols involved in the incident. At the Okota division, the policemen on the ground allegedly gave wrong names to the team. The names given by the bank were also reported to have conflicted with those given at the station. “ONE OF THE OFFICERS WITH US, A DSP, ASKED TO SEE THE DETAILS OF POLICEMEN WHO TOOK WEAPONS FROM THE ARMOURY THAT MORNING. HE OBSERVED THAT THE NAMES WERE ALSO DIFFERENT. BUT AS WE WERE ABOUT LEAVING THE BANK PREMISES, I SAW THE TWO POLICEMEN COMING OUT AND QUICKLY IDENTIFIED THEM. “I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE ARRESTED ON FRIDAY. WHILE ONE OF THEM WAS DETAINED, THE SECOND, WHO HAS AN AILMENT, WAS LEFT TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. “THE OFFICER IN CHARGE OF THE MOBILE POLICEMEN AT THE OKOTA DIVISION LATER CALLED TO APOLOGISE TO ME ON BEHALF OF HIS MEN. HE SAID HE HAD ALSO BEEN AFFECTED BY THEIR ACTION. “BUT THE PROVOST TOLD ME THAT THE POLICEMEN WOULD FACE THE CONSEQUENCE OF THEIR ACTIONS. ALTHOUGH I WOULD HAVE WANTED THEM TO FIX MY CAR, BUT THIS IS NIGERIA AND I HAVE DECIDED TO DO IT MYSELF,” HE SAID https://www.tvcontinental.tv/2018/10/01/policemen-arrested-for-beating-up-businessman-in-lagos/

There is nothing that would be posted on social media, from family problems to people bragging about their latest fashion item and to sharing of unclad pictures. Obi who was seen sitting pretty in her pink leggings and wine colored top shared the pictures with the caption: “Chilling in the toilet. When you go to a hotel your A/C is in the toilet, you go there to chill once in a while.” According to her profile, Obi is a professional makeup artist working with the Nigerian Film Industry. She also studied at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka NAIJ.com earlier reported that a rising actress identified as Stella Clifford has taken to her Instagram account to call out a movie director Lake Asmah. The Nigeria Police Force have explained why their personnel restricted some voters from accessing the polling units where Thursday’s Osun governorship rerun election took place. Ali Janga, a Commissioner of Police, who is superintending over the force operations in Orolu Local Government Area of the state, told newsmen that voters prevented from polling units were those whose polling units were not involved in the rerun election. “We check people for their voters’ cards and ensure that they are registered to vote in any of the three polling units in Orolu LGA before we let them pass. The polling unit has been written on the card. “If your unit is not in any of these places we will ask you to go back ,” he said. Janga also debunked reports that police officers arrested observers and journalists, noting that the circulation of such information was the handiwork of politicians. “Nobody was arrested by the police. People are feeding out false information sponsored by politicians”, the Police Commissioner added. INEC had earlier said it would address all issues concerning the purported arrest and harassment of observers with the security agencies. #Osundecides Source: http://dailypost.ng/2018/09/27/osun-rerun-voters-blocked-polling-units-police/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

The PDP governorship candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, has still not been able to cast his ballot after the second attempt. His Permanent Voter Card was first rejected by the card reader and he waited a while before going back to try it again, but there was no success. He expressed fear that if this could happen to him, others might also be disenfranchised because there was no alternative to the machine. He said, “I cannot say I don’t have confidence in the electoral process but I have my fears. “My card has been rejected twice now. It is amazing and they asked me if the card is bent or something but you all can see the card is not bent. The REC should do something about that. “APC agents are going about distributing money to voters in the presence of INEC officials and security men.” He said he would still stay back to make another attempt to vote. http://punchng.com/ekiti-decides-card-reader-rejects-pdp-candidates-pvc/amp/#click=https:///vCmBKo0zqI |
Maurizio Sarri is the new Chelsea head coach. He moves to Stamford Bridge following a successful three-year spell at Serie A side Napoli. During his time there, the Italian, who is 59, revitalised the fortunes of the club and returned them to the Champions League while playing a scintillating brand of expansive, attacking football. In his three years at the helm, Napoli recorded two second-place finishes in their domestic league, including last season when they achieved a record points total for a runner-up, and one third place. In 2017, he won the Serie A Coach of the Year award. Sarri, who has signed a three-year contract, said: ‘I am very happy to be coming to Chelsea and the Premier League. It is an exciting new period in my career. ‘I look forward to starting work and meeting the players on Monday ahead of travelling to Australia, where I will be able to get to know the squad and begin our match action. ‘I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves.’ Director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘We are delighted to welcome Maurizio and are looking forward to him bringing his football philosophy to Chelsea. ‘Maurizio’s Napoli side played some of the most exciting football in Europe, impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism, and his coaching methods significantly improved the players at his disposal. ‘He has plenty of experience in Serie A and the Champions League and we know he is relishing the chance to work in the Premier League.’ Along with the team’s improvement in results, Sarri’s reign in Naples will be remembered for the quality of Napoli’s play. The term ‘Sarri-ball’ was coined and he also earned praise for his ability to re-shape the structure of the squad, nurturing some of the club’s younger talents with hugely positive results.

Napoli midfielder Jorginho is set to undergo a medical with Chelsea soon ahead of his proposed move to Stamford Bridge this summer. Identified by Manchester City as their priority midfield target, Jorginho seemed destined for a move to the Premier League champions and even agreed a contract with the club. However, Manchester City struggled to close out a final agreement with Napoli and now it seems they have been beaten to the post by Chelsea in the transfer race. The Blues made a late but decisive entry into the negotiations and have agreed a deal worth €65m, including bonuses, with Napoli for the Italy international midfielder. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed on Wednesday that the midfielder prefers a move to London over Manchester and it seems the transfer is close to going over the line. According to Italian broadcaster Premium Sport, Chelsea have already scheduled a medical for Jorginho and the midfielder will soon undergo the appropriate procedures with the Blues. The midfielder was seen leaving Italy on Wednesday and is expected to be in London today to complete a move to the Premier League from Serie A. De Laurentiis has also indicated that Chelsea have offered better terms than Manchester City to Jorginho. |
The Deputy Leader of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Adeniran Alagbada, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pitched his political tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC). Alagbada, representing Ise/Orun constituency, renounced his membership of the PDP in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, saying he decided to dump the PDP based on some lapses noticed in the party. Briefing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on his decision, he said, “I have consulted my leaders and the good people of my constituency in Ise Orun Local Government that elected me as honourable member of Ekiti State House of Assembly before this press conference on my decision and they approved of it”. On how Hon Gboyega Aribisogan was suspended indefinitely for defecting to the APC, Alagbada said he had no reason to fret over such action, stressing that he has the fundamental rights of freedom of association as enshrined in the constitution. He added: “I have also obtained their full consent before this historic declaration. I’m aware and it is an historical fact that during the 2014 PDP primary, Governor Ayo Fayose promised my constituency, Ise Orun, the governorship after his tenure. “We were therefore very hopeful when two of our illustrious sons, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Barrister Owoseeni Ajayi came out to show interests to contest for the PDP gubernatorial candidate. “My constituency was therefore shocked and surprised when none of the two aspirants from my constituency was found worthy of support by the governor. “Not only did he disdain them but worked ruthlessly to ensure their manipulation out as candidate of the PDP in preference for the Deputy Governor, Prof Kokapo Olusola Eleka who was nowhere when we risked everything to ensure the victory of the governor both at the primary and general election. “Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Barrister Owoseeni Ajayi have since left in protest to join the APC. My constituency too who elected me into the House of Assembly are also aggrieved and have directed me to follow suit with my leaders. “Consequently, in accordance with the directive of the good people of Ise/Orun constituency of Ekiti state House of Assembly, I hereby resign as the Deputy Majority Leader of Ekiti State House of Assembly and my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party due to irreconcilable breaking into factions of the PDP in Ekiti state following the rancorous gubernatorial primary. “I also use this opportunity to announce my defection to the All Progressives Congress forthwith,” he concluded. http://dailypost.ng/2018/06/19/ekiti-guber-house-deputy-leader-dumps-pdp-joins-apc/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

The former President, Goodluck Jonathan has charged leaders and politicians to think about the next generation and not just about the forthcoming 2019 general elections. He said, “Leaders must think of the next generation and not just the next election.” The former President called on the support of leaders to encourage the youths “instead of discouraging them with our words and actions, we as leaders must give our youths hope by using our language to draw out the very best in them. “We must accept that the nation only grows when elders plant trees whose shade they know they may never personally enjoy. The former President through his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, on Tuesday, commended the Nigerian youths, describing them as great achievers who are holding their heads high and greatly proving themselves globally. “Nigerian youths are high achievers who are making the country proud, all they need are the opportunities to demonstrate their capabilities”. As Nigeria marks democracy day, the former President urged all Nigerians to pray for peace in Nigeria. “We need peace in Nigeria. And it is up to you and me to ensure that our National Motto: Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress, is a reality and not just mere rhetoric. I urge Nigerians to understand and accept that nobody’s political, economic, religious or social ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. “As this year’s Democracy Day falls on the holy month of Ramadan, let me seize the opportunity to also extend Ramadan greetings to the Muslim Ummah. As you pray for Nigeria, I join my faith with yours and look forward to our prayers being answered by Almighty God. “There are many opportunities and crises on the horizon, but we must have the mentality of seeing the opportunity in crisis rather than the crisis in opportunity. “We have one of the fastest growing youth population in the world and we must see this as an opportunity, not a crisis. “What our youth need are opportunities to showcase their positive talents. They need leaders who believe in them and show affirmation for them through their words and actions. “Democracy is a game of numbers and the youths have the numbers. More than 50% of our population are youths. If we develop policies, programs and projects to empower the youth of Nigeria, the Nigerian youth, who single-handedly created Nollywood, the third largest movie industry in the world can be expected to return the favour and make Nigeria proud. “And they are already making us proud both locally and internationally. Nigerian youths are showcasing their brilliance around the world and I want to make special mention of Ukoma Michael, who at thirteen years of age invented a battery operated fan that lasts for 19 hours on a full charge. This ingenuity domiciled in Michael should be encouraged by our leadership. “Internationally, Princess Elizabeth Bright and Ramota Tele Lawal, two 22-year-old Nigerian youths who in May of 2018 became the youngest elected councillors in the United Kingdom, have made us proud. Very proud indeed. “These youths are the epitome of the hardworking, talented, innovative and ambitious Nigerian youth who make our nation respected in the community of nations and give us hope for tomorrow and national pride for today. “Rather than discourage them with our words and actions, we as leaders must give our youths hope by using our language to draw out the very best in them. We must accept that nations only grow when elders plant trees whose shade they know they may never personally enjoy. Leaders must think of the next generation and not just the next election. “While we celebrate Ukoma, Elizabeth and Ramota, I know that there are perhaps millions in Nigeria who are equally brilliant and only need the right enabling environment to unleash their creative genius. They are my inspiration on this Democracy Day. They are the reason why I believe in the continued corporate existence of this great nation founded on justice, equity, and freedom. “Happy Democracy Day. God bless you and your family and may God bless Nigeria”.
