The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been berated for suspending all processes relating to Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state. All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council in Rivers state, while reacting to the suspension also described the decision as illegal and not having any legal backing. A statement signed by the Director, Strategic Communications of the APC Campaign Council in Rivers state, Prince Tonye T.J.T Princewill also said INEC’s decision would not save the state Governor, Nyesom Wike from losing the elections, even as he challenged the electoral umpire to declare results of areas where elections already took place. “INEC’s decision is illegal because it is not supported by law. Section 296 of the Electoral Act cited in the INEC Press Release is not even applicable because that section deals with a situation where a date has been appointed for the holding of an election, and there is reason to believe that a serious breach of the peace is likely to occur if the election is proceeded with on that date or it is impossible to conduct the election as a result of natural disasters or other emergencies, then the commission may postpone the election. “You can see that this provision does not apply to a situation where an election has already been conducted or held, which is the present position in Rivers State. “Since the elections in Rivers State have been held Saturday, INEC is bound by virtue of section 27 of the Electoral Act to announce the results. Having admitted in paragraph one of the Press Release that it has conducted elections on the 9th of March in Rivers State, INEC must by virtue of section 27 of the Electoral Act, announce the results. “INEC’s decision to postpone the already held elections is ultra vires, illegal and unconstitutional. Such an unlawful decision can now be challenged in court by virtue of section 26 subsection 5 of the Electoral Act. The challenge can be launched by any of the many contestants at a court or tribunal of competent jurisdiction and on such a legal challenge, the decision of INEC shall also be suspended until the matter is determined. “Our concerns about INEC and our lack of faith in the REC are continually validated. This was same way they suspended a by election we held a few months ago when it was clear we were winning. Now, the AAC candidate and several House of Assembly candidates supported by APC are cruising to victory and they do it again. Can they not just step out of the way and let the will of Rivers’ people prevail? “Rivers state was largely peaceful. Why not deal with areas where you say you have violence and leave the other results to go through? It’s common sense. Why suspend a whole state? Wike will go. It is only a matter of time. We always knew this. Now the world knows it too. Not even INEC can save him”. The statement said. https://leadership.ng/2019/03/10/rivers-election-suspension-illegal-apc-slams-inec/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |

Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says “O to ge”, the slogan used to dislodge Senate President Bukola Saraki is not applicable in Lagos. Loosely translated as “enough is enough”, the slogan yielded massive rewards for Kwara APC as the party displaced all the three sitting senators in the state, won all house of reps seats and President Muhammadu Buhari defeated Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic (PDP), with over 150,000 votes in the state. Some politicians and activists opposed to Tinubu had attempted to use a similar strategy to stop the emergence of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his preferred candidate. But fielding questions from reporters after casting his ballot at polling unit 047, ward 3, Ikeja local government area of the state, Tinubu said in Lagos, the people should consider “o to pe”, translated as “it’s worthy of praise”. He said there is a limit to copying concepts from other states, expressing confidence that his party would emerge victorious in the exercise. “The O to ge slogan is for Ilorin; Lagos is not Kwara state, and there is a limit to copying. Lagos should be O to pe, not O Toge,” he said. “We are going to win because we are the only party in Lagos state, others are pretenders; they come and they will go away. Leopard cannot change his skin. “Lagos belongs to the progressives; we are progressives and we will remain progressives. For Lagos, it has seen tremendous development since I was the governor; before then, the highest internally generated revenue (IGR) was N600 million, per month, now it is over N30 billion. “No other state has achieved what we have achieved, financial independence, as Lagos state; no other nation, they all depend on allocation from the federal government. Lagos State today will not depend on any allocation before we take care of capital needs; we build roads and bridges everywhere from Oregun to many parts of the state. “The real estate value of Lagos state has exponentially increased than any other state in the federation. We are the fifth largest economy in Africa; let me see that governor who will do better than that.” Tinubu said the the violence which erupted in the Okota area of state during the presidential and national assembly elections, is not enough to give the impression that the state is prone to violence. He blamed the media of giving hype to negative stories, saying that such attributes would not bring the necessary progress. “I take exception to what happened in Okota two weeks ago. I am very upset about that incidence placing Lagos as if we are violent-prone,” he said. “We have about 1,325 polling units in Lagos State and only five units were affected in Okota. That should not mean that the election was a failure in the state. “If we should rate it, the election should be about 97 per cent rate of success if right mentally. An incident in Okota should not be used to generalise the whole election in Lagos State. “The success rate should have been the story, not the ugly incident that should be the story. For the media, how can five units out of 1,325 units constitute a violent election and were given hype that Lagos is violent; we cannot do justice to that. “How can we have development to the economy and the medium of information? In terms of security, Lagos has always been ready to celebrate democracy, and violence free. The security officials are doing well and the INEC has started well too with the logistics well managed. “We will continue to welcome everybody to Lagos State. We cannot stop people from coming to the state. If Lagos is not good enough, they won’t come. If the state is plagued with disease or insecurity or unemployment, people won’t come. Those leaving their states to come to Lagos are welcome, they are not a threat.” https://www.thecable.ng/this-is-not-kwara-tinubu-kicks-against-o-to-ge-in-lagos/amp

Davido has revealed during one of his radio sessions in the US that he had to pay the sum of Fifty-five thousand British pounds in order to have the time of his concert extended. The African global superstar called at New York’s Hot 97 FM studio while on the move for his radio tour to discuss his intent on breaking into the US and he revealed to Oldman Ebro the sacrifice he made in order to have the hall packed before he got on stage. Davido revealed he was quite scared that as at the time he was due for getting on stage, the hall was half-empty and he was told people were still loitering around the hall premises. He said the management came over to him and told him he has to get on stage no matter the situation else he pays a fifty-five thousand fine for extending the time. And he said he would rather pay the fine than get on stage while people aren’t seated. Davido said in his words, “I was scared though, because first of all, you know how we Africans do, we’re always late, we take time. They said I gotta get on stage by 8, and I said alright and then by 8 o’clock my boy come tell me that brother you can’t go on stage right now and I say what you mean, he said brother everybody is still walking around, I looked at the stadium, half empty. I was going crazy.” He then went on to reveal exactly what he did to buy time, he said; “They said i’d have to pay £55,000 for time extension and i said I’ll pay two hundred thousand pounds in this place. Me, the way I know my people, people want me to fail. If I go on that stage that place is half empty, somebody will take that picture and that picture will go farther than anything. I waited till that place was filled. I waited for about an hour and thirty before we started. I’d rather pay the fine because people don’t want you to win. Negativity goes way farther than positivity http://naijatunez.com/index.php/2019/03/04/i-paid-a-55000-fine-to-buy-a-time-extension-for-my-o2-arena-concert-davido/

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were on Saturday, said to have invaded the Abuja residence of the Finance Director of Atiku’s group of companies, Alhaji Babalele Abdullahi. A statement by Atiku’s media adviser, Mr, Paul Ibe, said the EFCC operatives, numbering about two dozen, stormed Absullahi’s Maitama District home at 8.30 am. Ibe stated that the operatives came in two regular vehicles, an 18-seater Toyota bus, marked Abuja CS 522 RSH; and a Toyota Hilux van. The statement said, “They came with a search warrant to search the house and office of Babalele and found nothing incriminating. They then proceeded to his office at Oakland Centre in Maitama and found nothing incriminating there. However, they took away some documents of landed property. “Not done, the EFCC officials stormed his Wuse residence where they again found nothing incriminating after the search. Afterwards, Babalele was taken away to the EFCC office in Wuse to make a statement alongside Mr. Lawan Ayuba. “It was gathered that the petition relied upon to invade the residence and office of Babalele was authored by a brother of the wife of President Buhari. “As a law abiding citizen, Atiku Abubakar recognizes the constitutional role of the EFCC and indeed any other agency of the government to carry out investigations, but will not be cowed by any attempt to blackmail him into mortgaging his mandate”. The statement added that the invasion of Abdullahi’s home was part of the desperate moves by the authorities to make Atiku congratulate and concede the mandate to President Buhari.
