Members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party have granted waivers to three governorship aspirants who want to contest its primary in Adamawa State on September 6.

Those granted waivers are Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Gen. Buba Marwa(retd.) and Marcus Gundiri.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

Metuh said the people of the state would be left to pick anyone they like among the 14 aspirants.

A Lagos doctor who treated the Liberian man that died few days ago of Ebola Virus has tested positive to the Virus, Nigeria’s Minister of Health said on Monday.

Late Patrick Sawyer flew in to Lagos en-route a trip to Calabar for an official assignment but fell ill in the aircraft.

The Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, also said that eight persons that had first degree contact with the Liberian before he got to the hospital had also been quarantined and are under strict observation.

An explosion has occurred in central Kaduna killing at least 10 people, a witness has said.

The blast occurred Wednesday afternoon along Isa Kaita road which leads to the popular Murtala Square.

A witness said the explosion is believed to have targeted the convoy of a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who was on his way to the Square.

The witness, Hassan Mohammed, told PREMIUM TIMES that the bomb, concealed in a red Volkswagen golf car parked by the road side, was detonated as the cleric’s convoy drove past.

The sheikh escaped unhurt, the witness said.

“As I speak to you now, I can see many bodies on the ground,” Mr. Mohammed said.

The police could not be immediately reached.

But the witness said security and emergency officials have arrived at the scene evacuating the victims of the blast.

The blast is the second targeting Mr. Bauchi in Kaduna State. In June, an explosion occurred near his house, injuring one person.

The Sheikh is a known critic of the extremist Boko Haram sect. It is however not clear whether the group is responsible for the attack.

A 50-year old Togolese and his two children were burnt to death at the Ikotun area of Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State, western Nigeria, at the weekend after the family’s generator exploded and compeletly razed their two-bedroom apartment and property

The deceased’s wife and one other child who survived the incident were severely burnt and are receiving treatment at a hospital.

The incident happened at about 8.00pm at the building located at 8, Odofin Street, Ikotun, Lagos when one of the children took a lit candle near the generator that had just been filled with petrol.

Sources said immediately she was close to the generator, it caught fire and exploded, engulfing the entire flat.

Before help could come, the victims had been severely burnt.

One of them died on the spot while others were rushed to a hospital where two others eventually died.

The incident was reported at the Ikotun Police Station.

The bodies of the dead family members have been deposited at the mortuary in Ikeja for autopsy.

When P.M.NEWS visited the premises where the incident happened, the residents confirmed it, saying the victims were well known in the area as a peaceful family.

They also said that the wife and one of the child that survived were still at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, where they are receiving treatment.

A woman suspected to be the landlady of the house prevented our reporter from entering the affected building.

When P.M.NEWS visited the the police station, the Divisional Police Officer was not around for comment on the matter, but sources within the station said the police had commenced investigation into the matter.
