Coach Bonfrere Jo was never given a gold medal by the organisers of 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The gold medal was neither given to Nigeria after the Olympics, till date.
The organisers said the coach's gold medal was not available and he was prevented from going on the presentation podium for this reason.
Very painful after 30 years though, it is not correct to make it look like anybody in Nigeria stole his medal. He should rather seek understanding with the current Nigerian administration to find a way of reaching out to the Olympics organisers for the medal.
The government should as well investigate the issues surrounding fulfilment of rewards promised him towards redeeming same where the claim is valid.
