U dont need to start any harshtag on twitter or take this up. NCC has given a directive that all ntwrks should start selling their data at the same price and the price would be announced by NCC come first of december. I am a CCR at one the telecoms in Nigeria and i got the mail to the effect a couple of days ago at work. So lets wait and see the uniform price NCC would give
You must be a CCR in "Bambiala Networks". If the network you work for is waiting for NCC to announce data price, you guys are on a long thing. NCC long ago informed Telecos of data floor price and ceiling price. So what announcements are you guys waiting for? This is same way one clown who claims to work in Glo was talking rubbish on another thread. Saying Glo won't increase price because of some stupid reasons. Let me see how Glo will breach NCC's directive!

Lol... Your post reminds me of Noah and the Ark story.

With this Data issue, I have come to agree that Nigerians are their own problems. They are just too docile. This protest will start and end online. As a telecoms insider, I brought it to the attention of Nairaland early enough, but people kept saying it is not possible. Now see where they are. Make una enjoy una new data rates from December 1st. Am on the staff data platform, so na una wen no gree take actions on time go suffer am!

Oga that you sell recharge cards does not mean you work in telecoms. From what you have posted so far, it is obvious you are a bye stander in the Telecoms industry and not in any Teleco!

What i mean is- Glo slashed down their data price because they can afford to do it.(They're one of the major wholesalers in Nigeria. Meaning Airtel, MTN and Etisalat buy from either Glo-1 or MainOne in wholesale price and re-sell.)

Because of traffic at peak period, telcos need to either increase their network capacity(which requires sourcing for fx), drive traffic to off-peak periods when there is low capacity utilization, or increase data price in order not to continue to be at a loss.
Since they slashed down data price, they have been loosing at least 600 million naira monthly apart from Glo so the price is not realistic.
At the end something will have to suffer;quality or quantity

I repeat, say what you know or shut up. Wholesalers ko retailers ni. If you are really in the telecoms industry, you won't post this crap. MTN does not buy anything from any teleco. Only business MTN has with other telecos is collocation of base station which is a standard practice in telecoms.

Phones / Re: GSM Companies To Increase Data Rate by Abuleoshi: 6:51am On Nov 26, 2016

If you truly are an insider, you would have known that this your statement is mixed with truth and falsehood.

1.NCC did not say anybody should increase data price;more telcos did because Glo did first.
2.Most telcos buy from wholesalers(like Glo and MainOne) and after dropping data price, they've been at a loss since then.
3.Because they will need to source for forex to buy and pay for almost everything, network quality will suffer if they continue at same price.
4.And if they insist on continuing this same way, they will have no other option than to cut down their staff strength.

Say what you know. I guess you are unaware MTN has its own submarine cable that landed in Nigeria? You can keep giving reasons and excuses, that does not remove the fact that NCC induced this increase in the price of data!

No they don't. My question is what is NCC's business with fixing price of calls or data? In the right sense, they should support crashing the price lower. But no they are there to frustrate the common man.

Lots of guys are really misinformed in this our Obodo Naija... How on earth do people expect a government to decently function without people having to pay tax on goods and services?

For what it's worth, most previous governments in our country were dubious when it came to the issue of taxes on goods and services - pretending as though there were none, or ignoring to collect them, so as not to disrupt/disturb the apple cart. That facilitates their winnng elections, when, in fact, the government anywhere can't function without taxes! As a result, you and me have been deceived — and spoilt — over the years, guys. To me, the important things is to hold the government accountable for all revenues it generates, so as to fan development.

And, to the OP: I have a feeling this will turn out to be the case of someone confusing a directive by the NCC for networks to collect lawful taxes due on data, with the expected increase in data rates as a result! I hope I'm not wrong, because then it will be sad indeed if the NCC should now start meddling in how much the networks prescribe as own base charge for own data service (before lawful taxes are applied.) In other words, God forbid a revert to the era of price control!

Competition, they say, IS good — for both business and consumer.

Good luck, everyone.

Mr Man, this is not data tax. NCC Set a Minimum price that GSM companies can charge for Data. The GSM companies currently charge lower than the Minimum price. so by December 1st, ALL GSM Companies will have to Charge the Minimum price set by NCC. This is what will lead to customers paying more for Data. Your regular N1,000 for 1.5GB wont be like that again. From December 1st, N1000 might give you 1GB or 800MB. I don't understand NCC's Business in telling Network what to charge. The Yeye NCC don't Know the Cheaper customers pay for data, the more Networks make more money and pay more taxes. This is common sense!

Price of Data will increase. No network will offer you N1000 for 1.5GB from December 1st. I can confirm that N5000 will give you 5GB instead of 10GB. This an NCC's directive to GSM networks.

The essence of me shouting out is to get people to protest against this proposed hike in Data price. Easier to protest against NCC's induced price increment than wait till December 1st when the increment is implemented.

As an insider in one of the GSM companies, i can reliably inform you that data rate will go up 1st December,2016. NCC has mandated all GSM Companies to raise data rates. This is sad, Nigerians should not accept it, Nigerian Government through its agencies should not make life harder for Nigerians!
N1000 Will be 500MB from December 1st 2016.
