I’ve been a lurker for a long time and been following this page
I have read the holier than thou replies and I am not surprised one bit.
People are talking of visa renewal blah blah like you told them you plan to renew your American visa after child birth or you are scared of a Visa denial?
Nairaland saints fail to understand that priorities differ. Your priority was/is birthing in America for a "better future and more opportunities" for you child.
For those talking of visa renewal, someone was denied American Visa severally when he was living in Nigeria. The guy moved to Canada with express entry in 2014. He got his Canadian Citizenship this year, with his Canadian passport, he can travel to same America without a visa. So make una calm down, life does not end with not being able to renew your American visa. As I always say on this thread, there are lots of places to visit for vacation and shopping if America no gree give you visa!

the discount story is just a coverup to refuse visa and limit child birth especially from nigeria..now we see the new rule...
Those who can "donate" (Pay back discount given) to hospitals where they gave birth should carry on. No amount of what we say on this thread will discourage people who are desperate to renew their US visas. Sad but it is what it is.
Me and my wife will never go to US Embassy in Nigeria as long as Trump is President and the discriminatory practice against Nigerians of denying applicants visa based on discount given continues.

Honestly I'm still trying to wrap my head around this discount thing. If really discounts offered are not legal and it comes back to "bite" the receiver then how come only Nigerians are bearing the brunt? I know of 3 Nigerians who don't reside in Nigeria, they travelled to the USA from their country of residence to have their babies, they got discounts and they have successfully renewed their visas with two going back to have babies again. I met them when I went to have my baby and since then we have been in touch. In fact one of them told me when she went to renew her visa, she wasn't even asked why she was travelling or why she travelled initially...e get wetin Nigerians do wey make them single us out. Like my people say "den nor dey beat pickin the day wey e spill milk, na the day wey e spill water".
I also raised it in my post, how come this hospital discount issue is a US Embassy in Nigeria thing? Abi is it only the medical discount given to Nigerians that are illegal The world is now a real global village that people keep in touch with people round the world and know how things are done elsewhere.
My thought is, the US Embassy in Nigeria looked at different trival issues they can use to deny Nigerians visas enmasse, this so called discount was the strongest thing they could hold on to and the thing is working for them to the point Nigerians are even paying back discounts they got legally (To me this is donation to the hospitals. How do they reconcile their accounting books since the transactions have long been closed and patients deemed to have fully paid their Bills). I bet the US Embassy people laugh at how they have been able to push Nigerians to the wall and squeeze out hard earned money from them in the name or paying back discounts just to get US Visas. The joke is on Nigerians!

Unfortunately those discounts are not legal. That’s what a lot of people don’t know or are not aware of they charge it back to the government. It’s tax payers money and that’s crux of the problem. It’s aid coined as self pay discount .
Hmmm so this kind of fraud can happen in the great America? So I have some questions about the legality of the hospital discounts in question.
1. Birth Tourism and hospital discounts in America have been on for many many years, how come the US embassy in Nigeria realized these hospital discounts are not legal under Trump who is a racist and hates birth Tourism from third world countries (Shithole countries according to Trump)? Same Trump considered stopping automatic American citizenship till he was reminded Jus soli is enshrined in the American constitution. - https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/22/us/birthright-citizenship-14th-amendment-trump.html
2. How come Nigerians who renew their American visas in American Embassies outside Nigeria are not questioned about these hospital discounts you claim are illegal? I know a couple of people who birthed in America, got discount, renewed their Visas outside Nigeria without questions around the discount.
3. Let's take your argument these discounts are illegal because of what you stated, how is it the fault of the cash paying patient that the hospital goes behind to claim back the discount without the knowledge of the patient? I genuinely doubt this, you seem to think our Nigerian "anyhowness" of no systems and processes applies to other parts of the world. Before you claim money back from a country like America, there is a rigorous process and system that will check the kind of "easy fraud" you stated about hospitals claiming discount back without the knowledge of the patients.
4. Aside the "general Nairaland talk" that US hospitals claim discounts back without knowledge of the patients, do you have any link to a story or news that verifies this claim?
Lastly, I have placed links below to buttress the point that hospital discounts are legal:

So i had 2 kids with my visa, reapplied last year and was refused, went ahead to contact the hospitals to refund all the outstanding discounts given. Also applied to the UK Embassy and i was declined too, someone informed me that they contacted the American Embassy to know the reason for the rejected visa and that led to the UK refusal. I have paid all outstanding discounted bill, not sure if i should go back to the American Embassy or British. I work, i honestly have no intentions of overstaying my visa or having another child. Just want to go for summer with the family
You guys requesting to pay up the discount you were given are the real MVPs. Someone got 10k discount under Jonathan when dollar was N160 to 1 Dollar. Now, same person will pay the 10k discount under Buhari when Dollar is N360Nobi small thing ooh.
For us, we got discount at Houston North West, because of the high rate of denials based on discount received, we didn't bother going to renew our USA visa when my wife got pregnant again. We Jejely went to apply for Canadian visa, gave birth to out baby in Canada in ending of last year, paid ALL our bills and we are back to Nigeria.
Our accounting books where Houston North West discount appeared have long been closed and we have moved on. How do you give me discount cos I am a cash paying patient, then because Trump does not like my skin colour, I will go and pay a discount I LEGALLY received because of US Visa? Never ooh. There are too many countries to travel to that I can't be bothered with US Visa.
Una well done sha

Offpoint:
That's how I bought airtel line last year from their office, registered the line and went home. Two days later, I decided to register whatsapp with the line, that evening that's how I received whatsapp message.

A guy threatening me, telling me I stole his one month old phone 2 weeks ago and I even have the guts to start using the phone with his sim.

He threatened me with God, Ogun, sango, Poseidon, Hades, Odin, Amadioha, police, army... dude literally threatened me with everything he could.

I tried convincing him it's a new sim I just bought and was even surprised receiving his message cuz I've not given that number out yet.

The guy wasn't listening, after threats he was even begging I returned his phone cuz he saved for over a year to get that phone and he only used it for 2 weeks.

It wasn't until I showed him the sim card with the number on it before he believed me.

I was so pissed I call Airtel Care Deck and served them their own portion of what the guy served me... still not satisfied: I headed straight to their office and served them deserts.

Imagine if I was caught with such line in public, how will I convinced them that I didn't steal the guy's phone?

Re-assigning SIM is really dangerous.
Ogbeni calm down. This your story get K-leg. The rule is a line is suspended after 90 days (3 months) of inactivity. After the suspension, it takes another 6 months to recycle the number. Then another 1-2 months to get it to the point where a new customer can buy the line.
So this your story of 1 month na burnt dodo!

As MTN is listed did or anybody you know buy shares there ? For your information MTN used shell offshore companies to mop up its own shares as it listed so no gain to Nigeria ..you clearly don't know how the stock market works and what's it's for .
Those who are experts in capital market matters praised the decision of MTN's listing and highlighted the benefits but Gamal Nasser of Nairaland.com thinks otherwise because he knows more than them. For crying out loud, Gamal might just be a secondary school leaver with no practical understanding of capital market matters but he can pose online as a capital market expert because of the anonymity online platforms provide.
