1.When a males demands, a female reacts; she doesn’t respond. 2.When a male gives, a female responds 3.When a male commits, a female submits. Nothing is more precious to a female than a committed male. Nothing is more depressing to a female than an uncommitted male. Here’s the secret, guys: If you want a submitted female, be a committed male. It’s that simple. 4.When a male abuses, a female refuses. Whenever a man abuses a woman, she refuses to respond. 5.When a male shares, a female cares. If you find a man who is willing to share with the woman in his life, you will find a woman who is willing to care for her man. 6.When a male leads, a female follows. When a man carries out his God-given responsibility for leadership, a woman responds by following his lead. Leadership does not mean being bossy, always telling others what to do, No, leadership means going ahead, not putting others in the front. Good leaders lead by example, not by decree…. Leading by example means doing ourselves what we wish others to do. UNILAG Post UTME Screening Examination Format The University of Lagos (UNILAG) usually sets questions on just three (3) subjects which are Mathematics, English Language and Current Affairs for all students irrespective of the course you have registered for in your JAMB and its subject combination. The format of UNILAG post UTME exam (number of questions per subject) is as follows: English Language = 20 Questions Mathematics = 10 Questions Current Affairs =10 Questions Total = 40 Questions Time to take Test = 30 Minutes. Total Post - UTME Score = 100 Marks How to Calculate Your UNILAG Post - UTME Aggregate Score In order to calculate your UNILAG post - UUTME aggregate score, the formula adopted by the institution is the sum of your UTME SCORE divided by 8 and your POST UTME SCORE divided by 2. For instance: If you scored 290 in UTME and went on to score 70 in POST UTME,your aggregate score will be calculated thus : UTME Score = 290/8 =36.25 Post UTME Score = 70/2 =35 Aggregate Score =36.25 + 35 =71.25% Don’t get confused, it can be quite understood that the post UTME questions is 40. You might want to ask, how then is it possible for me to score 70 in post UTME? This is the simple magic UNILAG performs;whatever you score in post UTME over 40 will be rounded up to 100, that is it will rounded up to percentage. Let’s say for example you score 20/40. It will be the same as 20/40 multiply by (*) 100/1 which is equal to 50/100. An objective of organizing a research paper is to allow people to read your work selectively. When I research a topic, I may be interested in just the methods, a specific result, the interpretation, or perhaps I just want to see a summary of the paper to determine if it is relevant to my study. For most studies, a proper research report includes the following sections, submitted in the order listed, each section to start on a new page. Some journals request a summary to be placed at the end of the discussion. Some techniques articles include an appendix with equations, formulas, calculations, etc. Some journals deviate from the format, such as by combining results and discussion, or combining everything but the title, abstract, and literature as is done in the journal Science. Your reports will adhere to the standard format. Title page Abstract Introduction Materials and Methods Results Discussion Literature Cited Title Page Select an informative title, such as “Role of temperature in determination of the rate of development of Xenopus larvae.” A title such as “Biology lab #1” is not informative. Include the name(s) and address(es) of all authors, and date submitted. Abstract Summarize the study, focusing on the results and major conclusions, including relevant quantitative data. It must be a single paragraph, and concise. It should stand on its own, therefore do not refer to any other part of the report, such as a figure or table. Avoid long sections of introductory or explanatory material. As a summary of work done, it is written in past tense. Introduction Introduce the rationale behind the study, including The overall question and its relevance to science Suitability of the experimental model to the overall question Experimental design and specific hypothesis or objective Significance of the anticipated results to the overall question Include appropriate background information (but please do not write everything you know about the subject). Methods and Materials The purpose of this section is to document all of your procedures so that another scientist could reproduce all or part of your work. It is not designed to be a set of instructions. As awkward as it may seem, it is standard practice to report methods and materials in past tense, third person passive. Your laboratory notebook should contain all of the details of everything you do in lab, plus any additional information needed in order to complete this section. While it is tempting to report methods in chronological order in a narrative form, it is usually more effective to present them under headings devoted to specific procedures or groups of procedures. Some examples of separate headings are “sources of materials,” “assay procedures,”cell fractionation protocol,” and “statistical methods.” Try to be succinct without sacrificing essential information. Omit any background information or comments. If you must explain why a particular procedure was chosen, do so in the discussion. Omit information that is irrelevant to a third party. For example, no third party cares what color ice bucket you used, or which individual logged in the data. You need not report sources of basic chemicals that would be found in any supply cabinet, such as sodium chloride or potassium phosphate. Report how procedures were done, not how they were specifically performed on a particular day. For example, report “samples were diluted to a final concentration of 2 mg/ml protein;” don’t report that ‘135 microliters of sample one was diluted with 330 microliters of buffer to make the proteins concentration 2 mg/ml.” Results Raw data are never included in a research paper. Analyze your data, then present the analyzed (converted) data in the form of a figure (graph), table, or in narrative form. Present the same data only once, in the most effective manner. By presenting converted data, you make your point succinctly and clearly. Figures are preferable to tables, and tables are preferable to straight text. However, many times a figure is inappropriate, or the data come across more clearly if described in narrative form. To give your results continuity, describe the relationship of each section of converted data to the overall study. For example, rather than just putting a table in the paper and going on to the discussion, write, ‘In order to test the null hypothesis that dust particles are responsible for the blue color of the sky, we observed the results of filtering air through materials of decreasing pore size. Table 1 lists the spectrum of transmitted light at right angles to the light path through air filtered through different pore sizes.’ Then present your table, complete with title and headings. All converted data go into the body of the report, after the methods and before the discussion. Do not stick graphs or other data onto the back of the report just because you printed or prepared them separately. Do not draw conclusions in the results section. Reserve data interpretation for the discussion. Discussion Interpret your data in the discussion. Decide if each hypothesis is supported, rejected, or if you cannot make a decision with confidence. Do not simply dismiss a study or part of a study as “inconclusive.” Make what conclusions you can, then suggest how the experiment must be modified in order to properly test the hypothesis(es). Explain all of your observations as much as possible, focusing on mechanisms. When you refer to information, distinguish data generated by your own studies from published information or from information obtained from other students. Refer to work done by specific individuals (including yourself) in past tense. Refer to generally accepted facts and principles in present tense. For example, “Doofus, in a 1989 survey, found that anemia in basset hounds was correlated with advanced age. Anemia is a condition in which there is insufficient hemoglobin in the blood.” Decide if the experimental design adequately addressed the hypothesis, and whether or not it was properly controlled. One experiment will not answer an overall question, so keeping the big picture in mind, where do you go next? The best studies open up new avenues of research. What questions remain? Did the study lead you to any new questions? Try to think up a new hypothesis and briefly suggest new experiments to further address the main question. Be creative, and don’t be afraid to speculate. Literature Cited List all literature cited in your report, in alphabetical order, by first author. In a proper research paper, only primary literature is used (original research articles authored by the original investigators). Some of your reports may not require references, and if that is the case simply state “no references were consulted.” http://www.academics.com.ng/2016/01/21/carry-report-academic-research-work/ |
Grades are often touted as the single most important factor when determining University admissions, job applications, and future success. The following is one of the single most asserted facts of life: Good grades grant entrance to an elite academic college. Academic success at a top university guarantees a well paying, highly respected job. Well paying jobs grant the necessary outcomes of success, including a big house, exotic vacations, societal status, large bank accounts, and many more luxuries of life. Examining this assumption will elucidate the issue of “grades determining success”. We become slaves to what we measure As soon as we decide to measure something, we become slaves to it. Grades are no different. Grades are a practical way to measure whether or not a student has learned school curriculum material. Without effective ways to measure other signals of cognitive and non-cognitive abilities, parents and children alike obsess over report cards. This is the executive summary of a student’s academic performance at school. Did the grade go up? Did it go down? Was it high or low? Grades are important for college. Like it or not, your high school grades are important signals to college admissions counselors in determining future academic achievement. Grades in college are important for graduate school and many highly selective corporations. With limited spots available for thousands of applicants, grade criteria is an easy selection process determining who gets a chance. Information asymmetry contributes to the stress on grades as signals in decision making processes. Good grades signal an ability to learn, and that is one of many qualities colleges and employers are looking for. However, grades are not the only sign, and in fact once grades are deemed good enough, many many factors will trump them in determining success. Therefore, we must examine what we believe to be success, and, once you have signaled you have enough ability to learn, what really determines success. Character Determines Success Character traits such as grit, curiosity, teamwork, oral communication and creativity are non-cognitive abilities that are not tested and reflected in report cards. These traits can help you get good grades. But they are not only useful in solving convergent problems, but also addressing the entirety of divergent problems and solutions in the real world. In the classroom, success is determined by a student’s ability to take converge to the right answer. In the real world, information is not clear. It comes from all different locations. The answers to real world problems are more divergent. There are thousands of solutions. We must have a certain level of cognitive intelligence and ability to learn. Clearly, good grades signal this ability. Success requires so much more. Success requires the ability to communicate complex ideas to a diverse team of people, relentlessly pursue solutions, and explore possibilities beyond current knowledge. When grades can reflect all these non-cognitive abilities, then they might hold more weight towards determining success. What is Success? The narrow path of success is a concept we’ve discussed in our blog before. It is one story of success. But in fact, there are unlimited possibilities when it comes to success. Most of the media paints a very consumer centric view of success, and so that is often all that our children hear. I cannot define success for you. The very script we are examining, “grades are important in life and grades determine success,” leaves out one important distinction. What do you want and how do you define success? Success is a personal endeavor, and if we don’t take time to step back and ask ourselves what we hope to accomplish in this life, we will never be content. Too often, we leave decisions up to others. But I charge you to ask yourself: what you want out of life? What would success look like for you? Realize that it is conscious decision, and that it is your individual vision that will lead to success. http://www.academics.com.ng/2016/01/21/need-graduate-good-grades/ |

Reading is the process of looking at a series of written symbols and getting meaning from them. There are few steps one can take in order to enhance his ability to understand what he reads. Eliminate distractions. Get off the computer, turn off the TV, and cut out the music. It’s very difficult to read, especially if you’re reading something difficult, when your attention is divided. Reading closely means you have to find a nice, comfortable location that’s distraction-free. Skim first and then read closely. If you’re reading something difficult, don’t worry too much about spoiling the ending for yourself. If you read a paragraph and have to start the paragraph over, consider skimming over the whole story, or flipping through the book somewhat to get a sense of the plot, the main characters, and the tone of the reading, so you’ll know what to focus on as you read more closely. Picture what you’re reading. Think of yourself as a movie director and picture the action while you’re reading it. Cast the movie with actors, if it helps, and really try to picture the events as realistically as possible. This can be a lot more fun, and it will help you remember and understand what you are reading a lot better. Read out loud. Some people find it much easier to stay focused and interested in what they’re reading by reading out loud. Lock yourself in your room, or hide in the basement and read as dramatically as you want. This can help slow you down if your tendency is to try to skim too quickly, and it can help make the reading more dramatic if you find it somewhat boring. Look up any words, locations, or ideas you don’t recognize. You can use context clues to help you figure out things by yourself, but it’s always a good idea to take a minute to learn any references you might not have gotten the first time. It’ll make the reading much easier. Mark up the text. Write questions in the margin, underline things you think are interesting, highlight important concepts or ideas. Don’t be afraid to make lots of marks on your text as you read. Some readers find that holding a pencil or highlighter makes them a more active reader, giving them something to “do” while doing the task. See if it works for you. Write a few sentences of summary at the bottom of each page. If you’re reading something difficult and find yourself often wanting to go back to get something you missed, start taking it one page at a time. At the end of each page, or even at the end of each paragraph, write a brief summary of what happened on that page. This’ll break up the reading and allow you to go through it with much more careful attention. Write down questions that you have about what you read. If you find something confusing, or you notice something that’s giving you difficulty, always write it down. This might give you a good question to ask later in class, or give you something to think more about as you continue reading. Take breaks. Make sure you save enough time to do your reading so you can complete it comfortably and take frequent breaks. For every 45 minutes of reading you do, let yourself relax for 15 or do some other kind of homework, to give your mind a rest and let yourself focus on other things for a while. When you’re ready, come back fresh and excited to get back to the story. Get together with friends or classmates and discuss the reading. It’s not cheating to discuss what you’ve read about before or after class. In fact, most teachers would probably be thrilled. Get your classmates reactions and compare them to your own. Again, try not to talk about whether or not it was “boring,” but see if anyone has a good explanation of something you might’ve found difficult or confusing. Offer your own reading expertise to help your friends. http://www.academics.com.ng/2016/01/21/how-to-read-and-understand/ |
