Christianity EtcUN Removes Jesus’s Birthplace From Danger List Of Heritage Sites by Acebot(op): 10:19pm On Jul 02, 2019
The United Nations Organisation had on Tuesday announced that it will remove the site of Jesus Birth from its list of world heritage in danger, DailyPost reports.

https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Birth-place-of-jesus-2.jpg

The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on Tuesday announced it would remove the site officially recognised as the birthplace of Jesus from its `List of World Heritage in Danger’.

The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO, which made the announcement at its 43rd meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, based its decision on “extensive restorative work on Bethlehem’s Nativity Church, in Palestine”.
The synoptic gospels of the New Testament of the Bible state that Christ was born in a manger in Bethlehem, in the reign of King Herod, to Mary and Joseph.
“The nativity is the basis for the Christian festival of Christmas,” the organisation said in a statement on its website.

According to the statement, the committee acknowledged the high quality of work carried out on the church in recent years, including the restoration of its roof, exterior facades, mosaics and doors.

It also welcomed the shelving of a project to dig a tunnel under Manger Square and the adoption of a management plan to conserve the site.
“Just last week, reports revealed that archaeologists had discovered inside one baptismal font, or basin of holy water used for the baptism rite, a more ancient font that dates back to the sixth or seventh century.

“Since the Second Century the church, situated 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem, has been identified by Christians as the birthplace of Christ.

“While the edifice of a church built there in 339 CE was replaced after a fire in the sixth century, the elaborate floor mosaics were retained from the original building.

“The official site also includes Latin, Greek Orthodox, Franciscan and Armenian convents and churches, as well as bell towers, terraced gardens and a pilgrimage route,” the statement added.
The birthplace was inscribed on the World Heritage List 2012, and was simultaneously added to the List of World Heritage in Danger due to the poor state of the Nativity Church.

Others on the list include Syria’s ancient cities of Aleppo, Bosra and Damascus, all inscribed in 2013, and the “Maritime Mercantile City of Liverpool” in the United Kingdom – which consists of six locations in the city centre – inscribed in 2012.

The 54 properties on the List of World Heritage in Danger aim to alert the international community to threats to essential characteristics for which a property was initially inscribed on the World Heritage List.
These can include armed conflicts, natural disasters, unplanned urbanisation, poaching or pollution, the statement added.

PoliticsRuga Will Destroy Nigeria, Buhari Should Have Lost 2019 Election – Wole Soyinka by Acebot(op):
Professor Wole Soyinka has reacted to the ongoing plan by the federal government to build Ruga settlement for herdsmen in the country saying its a big problem to the nation's unity.

https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Wole-Soyinka.jpg

Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has opposed the federal government’s proposal to establish Ruga settlements across the nation for herdsmen, DailyPost reports.

Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday at the launch of United Nations’ Solutions 17 SDG programme, Soyinka berated the federal government for the idea, which he said can cause Nigeria to explode.

According to him: “Ruga is going to be an explosion if not handled with care. But why do we not take our policies from good models? This is not the way people and countries deal with issues of cattle.

“I travel everywhere. It has to be handled in a way that is logical, comprehensible to the environment. When a cattle walks up to the window of my house in Abeokuta, a house which is located in a residential area, then there’s a problem.

“When cattle goes to Ijebu Ode and eat up their plant seedlings and so on and you expect people to be quiet?”

He stated the handling of the herdsmen issue by President Muhammadu Buhari was enough to make him lose re-election.

“President Buhari deserved to have lost the last election for the lackadaisical attitude he took to the issue of cattle rearing in the country.

“People have been killed in hundreds just because of the failure of leadership at a critical time. And the cattle herders have been given a sense of impunity.

“They kill without any compunction, they drive away the farmers who have been contributing to the food solutions in the country, the cattle eat their crops and then you come up with Ruga.

“I think that there is going to be trouble in this country if this Ruga thing is not handled imaginatively and with humanity as a priority.
“Any country where cattle takes priority over human life is definitely at an elementary stage,” he said.

PoliticsTribunal: PDP To Present Over 400 Witnesses At Tribunal In Bid To Sack Buhari by Acebot(op): 8:41pm On Jul 01, 2019
https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Buhari-Atiku.jpg

Nigeria’s opposition People’s Democratic Party Monday said it has over 400 witnesses to present at the presidential election petition tribunal to further challenge President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the February poll.

“We have over 400 witnesses. But if we are able to present up to 300 we will review our case,” the party’s lead counsel, Levi Uzeugwu, said.
However, when asked for the exact number of witnesses so that the tribunal can allocate time for each party to cross-examine the witnesses, Uzuegwu requested the court to stand down for 30 minutes to allow them to decide. The request was granted.
The tribunal granted the party 14 days to do this and tender all documents they need to prove its case.

The Justice Mohammed Garba-led five-man tribunal said the 14 days period is prescribed under paragraph 16(3) of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act.
While reacting to the ruling, Uzoukwu said as much as his clients had proposed 400 witnesses, they “intend to call as many witnesses as possible within the prescribed time”.
Uzoukwu also informed the tribunal that counsel representing the various parties in the case had also agreed that “we will tender and reserve objection till final addresses”.

“What we have not agreed on yet is whether we will be given opportunity or isolate the preliminary objection from the main address,” he added.

“We are also not too sure on the length of time of cross-examination.”
Justice Garba said, the length of time for cross-examination “will be dependent on the circumstances and facts”, particularly the number of witnesses parties to the case intended to call.

PDP and its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar are challenging the victory of Buhari in the 2019 presidential poll.INEC declared Buhari winner with more than four million votes.

Local and international observers said the election was tarnished by low turnout and a number of irregularities, including deadly violence and vote-buying.
The PDP said it has technical experts from Microsoft and Oracle to corroborate its position that the announced results were tampered with.

The party presented the court with another set of results it said are from INEC’s official web server that shows a PDP victory by 1.6 million votes.
INEC responded to the allegations, saying the alternative set was fabricated and “invented for the purpose of this case”.

PoliticsI Spent N1.2bn On Funerals - Ex Bauchi Governor, Abubakar by Acebot(op): 10:54am On Jun 27, 2019
Immediate past governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar, has said he only spent N1.2 billion on funeral materials and not N2.3 billion as alleged.

https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Mohammed-Abdullahi-Abubakar.jpg

This was made known by a Social Media Aide to former Governor, Mukhtar Jibril, his media aide, the former governor said he inherited the practice of buying funeral materials from his predecessors due to its impact on the people.
Governor Bala Mohammed of the state had accused his predecessor of spending N2.3 billion on funeral materials in five months.

Jibril said in a statement that the purchases passed through “due process” and awarded to qualified contractors.
He said:“In response to media reports on the issue of mahogany and shrouds procured for burials, we want to state that this is a practice inherited by the government of Abubakar from its predecessors. Considering its significance and impact on the people, especially the bereaved, it decided to continue with it.

“However, the project, like any other of the same magnitude, was awarded to qualified contractors. Based on the available verifiable record, N1,270,743,520 had been expended since its inception and not the exaggerated figure of N2.3 billion mischievously posted on the social media by critics. We urge the good people of the state to disregard this insinuation as an act of desperation by elements of retrogression.

“Besides, every contract awarded was subjected to the scrutiny and appraisal of the due process agency in accordance with public procurement law, contract agreement, payment of tax due on such contracts and other requirements"

SportsWhy You Should Support Nigerian Football by Acebot(op): 8:21am On Jun 27, 2019
https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Rangers_.jpg

Many Nigerians do regard supporting their country’s football is inconsequential, an they neglect their teams an run to support European top teams. This action make foreigners see the league as being inferior and not worth being a fan.

Football is the passion of many Nigerian youths, It’s not only because they like the wholesome exercise that it provides the body, but also because they enjoy supporting a team they desire to.

The Nigerian League(NPFL), formerly known as the “Nigeria Premier League” as of the 2015/2016 season is the highest level of Nigerian football. It is fed into by the Nigeria National League (NNL) and it’s organized by the League Management Company.

Without must ado, here are the reasons any football loving Nigerian should start supporting his homeland teams.

SUPPORTING OUR OWN:
Nigerians don’t seem to support their own. Like they have a desire for foreign products, it is the same for football. Even the Nigerian Super Eagles team is coached by a foreigner. We can start patronising our assets by reducing the time we spent watching the premier league and support the Nigerian league by going to stadiums to watch a Nigerian club playing.

IT IS WELL ORGANIZED:
Since the league management body started managing the NigerianLeague, they have made concerted efforts to make the league more exciting and interesting. They have ensured that the stadiums are TV friendly and the players and fans obey rules and regulation. This has encouraged players to give out their best and you now see a Nigerian league player scoring a hat-trick.

PRIVATE CLUBS CAN BE SUPPORTED:
Looking at the past when the 20 clubs playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League are government owned, there are now privately owned clubs that are professionally managed.
We have The Mountain of Fire Football Club, Ifeanyi Ubah FC, and Remo stars. You can support these clubs because they churn out EPL like football week in, week out.

https://footballlive.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Godswill-Akpabio-International-Stadium-Uyo.jpg
THE STADIUMS ARE SAFE:
Even as at now many Nigerians have the mindset that whenever they visit the stadium, they will be harassed and waylaid. This is in the past. They are now safe because it is now incumbent on clubs to provide security for fans and players alike.
A stadium to look out for in Nigeria is the God’swill Akpabio Stadium (Nest of Champions), Uyo which hosts the Nigerian club, Akwa United. The stadium is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government and they provided full security for the stadium.

Lastly, Supporting our own teams will help reduce this current economic abberation we are facing i.e taxes generated will be used to pay the club’s workers and will thereby reduce unemployment rate.
As the Nigerian Football League would kick off in a date that’ll be announced by the League Management Company, you should have a team you will be supporting for the next campaign. Supporting teams like Kano Pillars, Akwa United, Rivers United, Wikki Tourist, MFM, Ibom Angels,… will show your love for the country.

Education5 Things You Need To Do To Have A Sucessful Admission This Year by Acebot(op): 10:11pm On Jun 24, 2019
5 THINGS YOU NEED TO DO TO HAVE A SUCESSFULL ADMISSION

As the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has commenced the start of 2019/2020 admission process, There are many nitty-gritty as a Candidate seeking for admission into a higher institution you need to do so as to gain entry sucessfully.

This is that time of year again: thousands of school leavers across the country are submitting applications to get accepted into a polytechnic or university of their choice to study sciences, business, economics or engineering.
Nonetheless, this journey you're about starting is a short one that will produce a positive or negative result as you know. There are many tasks and protocols you need to complete to ensure a successful admission.

1. Know Your Stand
Knowing your stand entails these things:
A. Does your course suits your cut off mark?
You have probably been reading something on cut off mark, it is the minimum mark set by the university on all their courses. Take for instance your university sets 230 as the JAMB cut off mark for your course, and you were lucky to score 196 in your UTME, Would you be considered for admission? The answer you know,
B. How competitive is the course?
This is another hinderance to most candidates admission in past years . This always affects when the candidate seeking for admission is going to a competitive course like Mechanical engineering with a low score.

2. Ensure You’re Prepared for Tests
Some candidates always have the fear to write test, thats why few years ago when the FG scrapped Post-UTME Aptitude Test many were happy with the development.
Up until this point, all you have done is testing. From the time you entered primary school to the moment you finished secondary school, it has been all about tests, quizzes, exams and anything in between.
Is it any surprise that more students are suffering from test anxiety?

3. Choose the Right Courses
Today, many young people apply to college or university just because everyone else is doing it even if they don’t want to or it is expected of them once they complete their secondary studies.
In other words, you’re spending large amounts of money on courses you’re not really interested in, only because your mates, family and instructors expected you to. That’s not the way to go through life.
As you consider going into a particular field, you need to determine that you have selected the right courses that match your career objectives. If you’re studying Bantu philosophy or The History of Obafemi Awolowo for the heck of it, then you’re wasting time and money.

4. Stand Out
By first, you must be determined to study the course you're applying for. Just think about after your 'stressfull' study, you will be living a good future ahead. Also pray for your God to be on your side cos 'it's not an easy road'.
Be prepared to stand out among thousand other candidates seeking admission with you.

5. Review The JAMB Rules
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has its own way of giving admission.
The current and critical 'rules' of the body concerning admissions are:
A. Do you upload your O level?
To many these may seem to be a light thing, but it's a serious thing. This issue nearly caused thousand of candidates to miss their admission last year. Just imagine the scenerio of you getting 316 UTME score to study Mechanical Engineering and you wait long not being admitted to hear that you would've been offered admission but because of you not uploading your O level, you were declined.
B. Other things you need to check whether they're in place is your subject combination, and whether your WAEC or NECO results meets the requirements of your aspiring course.

Africa is a continent that is blessed with a lot of wild life and most of its team that will play the Africa Cup of Nations have branded their teams with names of animals to show their pride. We take a look at these names.

The prestigious AFCON tournament started yesterday in Egypt, with 24 countries - all with different monikers and 'animals' battling on the field for the glory.
From the lion to the snake, leopards to elephants, all of them will be at this year's tournament.
African football is noticable for its nicknames and giving attracting names to their teams - not only do they give identity to the fans, they also help motivate players. Team nicknames, alongside colourful fans and drums, are part of the very essence of the AFCON tournament.

Save Us From Persecution, IPOB Urges Trump

The Indigenous People of Biafra has alleged that its members in Aba and Port Harcourt are being persecuted and arrested by security agencies since President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel .

In a statement by IPOB ’ s Media and Publicity Secretary , Emma Powerful , the group complained about the open persecution of its religious group, Shalon Synagogue Church of Israel .

The group said its ordeal began shortly after Trump pronounced Jerusalem as the capital of Israel .

It enjoined Trump and Israel to intervene in the ordeal to save its members from annihilation by the President Muhammadu Buhari - led government.

The statement read , “We, the family members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, worldwide , condemn the ongoing religious persecution , harassment and arrest of IPOB members , especially those of the Shalom Synagogue Church of Israel in Aba, Abia State , last week .

“Since President Trump announced US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel , the wave of arbitrary arrests and persecution of Biafrans that practise Judaism in Aba and Port Harcourt have dramatically increased.

“Nigerian government is setting a very ugly and dangerous precedent. Those arrested for their faith must be released immediately, including all those illegally detained for expressing their legitimately held views that they are better off in Biafra than Nigeria .

Powerful added , “Arresting members of Shalom Christian Church because they are connected to the Jews in Israel is religious discrimination of the worst kind . Every religion has a root and in as much as nobody can deny that Saudi Arabia is the root of Islam , nobody can deny that Israel is the foundation of both Judaism and later Christianity . ”
