To be fair, the pocophone does not ship with ads. My short time with it, i didn't see any ads on them. Stand to be corrected though.

Did same setting for redmi note 5, no ads also. If i enable recommendations though, there are ads even on pocophone (Region matters also, ads are much in india region)

I think a large part of getting ads on your phone depends on how you set it up, while setting up a miui phone, don't just accept all the options by clicking next. Ensure you disable recommendations, user experience programs, and in apps like music players, disable recommendations also, for ads while installing applications, an option is there to disable recommendation once the security scan starts. I've never gotten a single ad on my phone since I started using it. This might be of help to people with ads problem in miui
