Christianity Etc"The Nature Of Our Job Does Not Permit Us To Take Sides" - TB Joshua On Politics by Achutebe(op): 11:32am On Feb 04, 2015
A video has surfaced of Pastor T.B. Joshua speaking briefly about the upcoming Nigerian elections, insisting that pastors should not take sides.

During Joshua’s ministration in his church last month, a lady, whom he had prophesied to regarding a marital challenge, stated that her husband was supposed to be a governorship flag bearer for Nigeria’s ruling party in the upcoming elections.

“Madam, you are bringing the issue of politics to the church,” Joshua immediately interjected. “There is nothing bad about politics but we should not allow it to infiltrate Christianity,” he continued, drawing applause from the crowd.

The cleric then publicly addressed the current political imbroglio affecting many pastors. “My members – whatever political party you belong – let it from your heart,” he counselled. “I should not allow it to infiltrate the ministry. I pray for all of you. I love all of you. Are you PDP? Are you APC? Are you Labour? You are my people.”

He continued, “The nature of our job does not permit us to take sides; we should pray for everyone and let God be the final. After you have done the job, God will still mark it; you should allow God to mark it.”

Joshua’s statement stands in contrast to the position of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) as recent reports suggest they have chosen to endorse ruling President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term.

Christianity EtcTB Joshua Returns N500,000 Tithe To Elderly Woman by Achutebe(op): 7:13pm On Feb 03, 2015
Just read this inspiring story on TBJ's Facebook Page...

OUR ELDERLY, OUR PRIDE: The Touching Story Of A Widow And Her Tithe...

The case of Mrs. Caroline Orugude deserves a place in the spotlight. On that unforgettable Sunday, which will remain engraved on the hearts of the thousands of people that heard her, she gently made her way to the altar of The SCOAN. Delicately clenching a hand that was just recovering from a recent attack of stroke, the elderly woman had the air of one with important news.

She came with a simple gift and message that would speak volumes to men and women of God the world over. A retired teacher from Bayelsa in Southern Nigeria, this woman still had a thing or two to teach the “young ones”.

When she spoke, it was with carefully chosen words: “What brought me here is the urge to testify of the goodness of God in my life,” she began. Every ear zeroed in, as she narrated how she had retired from her job in June, 2012 and was forced to wait many months for her gratuity that was supposed to have been paid immediately. She said: “There was nothing much we could do except pray because the pension system is unreliable. So, I kept praying for almost two years about this.”

Mrs. Orugude requested prayers from many pastors for breakthrough, promising she would pay her tithe, but the pension remained withheld.

After she was introduced by a family member to Emmanuel TV, her mindset began to change. “I witnessed the goodness of the Lord and how the God of T.B. Joshua helps people to achieve their goals,” said Mrs. Orugude. A month before this landmark testimony, the elderly lady began to change her prayer points, aligning them with what she saw on Emmanuel TV.

When praying, she would place the documents for the gratuity on the screen of Emmanuel TV, thanking God for His mercy. Then the mighty hand of God touched her!

Within two weeks, she received a call from the treasury, asking her to go to the capital city, Abuja. “I said, ‘Wow! Is it for the gratuity?’ They said, ‘Yes’. Brethren, I knelt down. The joy in me that day, I cannot express it. I said, ‘thank You, Lord. I am going to Lagos’. I decided when I got the money, I would come here [to The SCOAN] to appreciate the Lord,” she said.

Then, while everyone including the millions of viewers across the world watched, the frail woman made a statement that stunned all: “I am here with the small sum of 500,000 naira, to give to the man of God and The SCOAN, as my tithe.” Mrs. Orugude’s declaration soon filled the Church-gone-silent with gasps of astonishment.

A mark had been made! At her age, no one would have expected her to part with such a huge amount of money, at a time when she needed it most. The action could not pass unnoticed by the Man of God, T.B. Joshua. His response to the touching gesture was equally surprising.

He said: “Yes, it is written in the Bible that we should pay tithe, but how can we collect tithe from widows and the aged who are supposed to be under our care? Remember, she has stopped working. She needs our care for the rest of her life. These are the women we should be feeding and taking care of. She is our mother; she is my mother too.”

The man of God then announced that instead of receiving Mrs. Orugude’s tithe, he would support her with an additional 500,000 naira, as a gift to take care of her.

Explaining why he took such a unique stance, T.B. Joshua spoke about the marks of a genuine servant of God: “When God calls a man or woman, what they will eat, what they will use and everything they need for their journey will be provided abundantly by God, because God wants honour and respect for His anointed ones,” he said.

“When a minister begins to depend on tithes, you know he is not a minister of God. It is written that offerings and tithes are very important to the house of God, but a minister of God who is called by God Almighty should not depend on offerings and tithes. Tithe is between you and your God.

“This is a message to ministers of God all over the world. When we collect tithes, we should know those whom we collect them from. Don’t force anybody – it is between them and God. Since the Bible says the door of blessings will open, leave them to God. It is not you that opens the door of blessing. If someone is not giving the right tithe, he will not receive anything from God, and if he is doing the right thing, he will receive from God. Let us worship the Giver of money, not money,” the Prophet said.

This example might cause you to smile but it is just part of the move Prophet T.B. Joshua has been making, along with Emmanuel TV Partners, to fulfil the divine obligation, which requires all Christians to help the elderly.

Every Sunday at The SCOAN, the elderly are allocated a section in the church where they enjoy the company and fellowship of their peers during the service. Additionally, free transportation in luxurious buses is provided to and from their homes, courtesy of T.B. Joshua and Emmanuel TV Partners. A welfare programme is also in operation, granting a monthly allowance, supplies and foodstuffs to each of the elderly in the church.

The Bible makes it very clear that it is not a crime to be old; it is the grace of God. Psalm 91:14-16 says: “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”

The elderly nurtured and reared us in love, care and warmth. This is the time to reciprocate their love, care and tenderness, now that they are too old to meet their needs unaided. Any community or nation that neglects their old ones, neglects God because it is the will of God to grow old (Isaiah 46:3-4).

Where are your elderly? Care for them and you shall reach old age.

PoliticsNAMA: Aircraft That Flew Over Synagogue Building Before Collapse Was Military! by Achutebe(op): 3:39pm On Dec 15, 2014
SOURCE: http://africanspotlight.com/2014/12/15/aircraft-flew-scoan-building-belongs-military-nama-finally-admits/

Aircraft that flew above SCOAN building belongs to military – NAMA finally admits
The National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has finally admitted that the aircraft that flew four times above the building at The SCOAN before its tragic symmetrical collapse belongs to the military.

This assertion came during the continued proceedings at the coroner’s inquest in Lagos to determine the cause of the buildings collapse. Prior to this, Chief Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe had reiterated the court’s intention not to witch-hunt or prosecute anybody, observing that it is only on a fact-finding mission aimed at forestalling future recurrences.

He made this observation while receiving a fresh application from lead counsel to The SCOAN, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, who asked the court to stay action on the invitation of The SCOAN’s General Overseer, Prophet T.B. Joshua until the determination of the a suit which is before Justice Lateefat Okunnu of the Federal High Court. According to the Chief Magistrate, the court is unbiased and not after anybody, appealing to all invited witnesses to honour the court’s invitation to avoid being arrested.

However, he eventually granted the prayer for a temporary stay of action on the invitation of Prophet T.B Joshua by Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, pending the outcome of a ruling on the matter slated for Monday, 22nd December, 2014.

He further advised that the court should not be taken for granted: “We will not add to the pains of T.B. Joshua because we understand that his church members are the ones who died in the building collapse and at the same time, we will ensure that the rule of law is respected. I will grant your prayer, learned SAN but let it be clear to all that the court will not tolerate any attempt by any individual to disregard it. Nobody is above the law. We will be compelled to prove this if parties to this saga try to prove that they are above the law”.

The witness representing the National Airspace Management Agency, NAMA and Deputy General Manager in charge of Air Traffic Operations, Mr. Rafiq Olubukola, admitted to the court that the aircraft that flew over the building, prior to its collapse, was a military aircraft. However, he claimed the aircraft flew normally and in line with the agency’s rules and regulations. He was not forthcoming with technical details of the altitude, number of passengers and timing of the said flight while being cross-examined by counsel to The SCOAN, Olalekan Ojo.

Furthermore, his statement contradicted the evidence presented to the court through the CCTV footage of the incident. He claimed the aircraft didn’t fly over the collapsed building which was contrary to what appeared in the CCTV footage.

While The SCOAN counsel reminded him that the police in their testimony had said his agency was given a copy of the CCTV footage of the hovering aircraft prior to the collapse, he denied ever seeing such a material, adding that he only watched the footage of the collapse on YouTube and hence could not ascertain anything about the timing of the flight.

Meanwhile, the contractor who handled the construction of the collapsed building, Engineer Akin Fatiregun of Hardrock Engineering Company Limited, appeared in court despite being ill. Contrary to the magistrate’s claim that the Engineer had been evading court summons, Mr. Fatiregun told the court that he had always been present at the court save on three occasions when he travelled out of the country to seek medical attention.

The magistrate who had initially threatened to arrest the contractor soft-pedaled when it became very obvious to him that the contractor was ill. He however granted the contractor’s prayer to appear on Friday, 19 December, 2014. Proceedings resume on Wednesday, 17 December, 2014.

Christianity EtcRe: Does TB Joshua Have A School For Drama And Acting ? by Achutebe(f): 10:57am On Dec 04, 2014
Elijah78:
Well, just a bit of my experience, when i first visited, Note that worshipers start queuing there as early as 4AM with the idea that first come you will sit in front.

The church gates normally open as from 6AM meanwhile you already have a real queue along the street there with people agitating, almost fighting, others come late and want to stand first etc.

When the gates are open, come and see rush and almost fighting, thanks to the police officers watching the synagogue. The usher who was there even told us that the gates have been broken about 4times due to the mad rush of worshipers to enter to the church.

When the gates are open, normally according to the queue, the first may be 10 people are assigned to an usher, depending on how many ushers are at service, you might have a set of about 4 groups being attended to by ushers.

In my own group, we were told that firstly here our greetings is Emmanuel meaning God with us, they told us we have a prophet of our time who speaks directly with God and all you need is to open your mind! If the prophet is passing by and doesn't talk to you, don't shout, it only means there is no word for you. After all you coming to the arena of liberty is already deliverance, it was destined by God. Then they asked one question, ""who here really wants to see the prophet?"" one lady raise up her hand, she was immediately whisk to the far back of the balcony, we were calm. Then the usher told us that well the man of God will distribute anointed water, and that if she is the one giving us, it might not work, she laughed. Then she told me personally that since i am well dressed she will take me infront. she then took me and made me to sit 4 rows to the alter where the man of God stands to preach. Many other things that i cannot remember.

While in church while service was going on, there were two empty seats by me, 2 young ladies came and sat there, immediately one usher came and ask them that ''who send you here''? they were immediately whisk out.

Also something i noticed was that if you don't buy the message of last week which is about a dollar, you will not have access to the prayer request form!

Lastly underneath the choir is where real business goes on, during service you can go there to buy your anointed water and receive either the prophets pic frames etc.

Well what i am saying here may not directly be linked to the fact that people are trained to act, but i have an experience with a colleague who went to synagogue last dec on his own and i saw him on the prayer line shouting that he cannot walk, while putting on neck braces and waist braces, thinks i never saw him use at work? This is someone who has been doing his daily job without being aided?

If you read the Sir John's post on the healing school, you might have a clue that these people are advice to behave in a certain way when approached by these men of gods

Anyway, just food for thought.

thanks
I have been to the church as well in Ikotun and my experience was quite the opposite. Although the queue was very long and very hectic and the ushers shouted a bit too loud at times, I had a wonderful experience in church and can gladly say that there is nothing like 'stage-managed' miracles. I came with my male friend there who even received deliverance when they sprayed the healing water on the congregation towards the end of the service. He is currently schooling for his Nigerian Barr. and I know for a fact that he would NEVER agree to acting or stage-managing a deliverance or demons or whatever. In fact, after the prayer, he even asked me if it was true that he was shouting at the front of the church and I had to graphically explain what he had been doing just minutes earlier. Now, he is more happy than he used to be before. I don't know all his personal problems but all I know is that he is a more jovial person now than before coming to The SCOAN.

Only thing I can say is to not form an opinion based on what people say - the Bible warns against it. Go and see for yourself. If they are cult, shebi you will deliver them na?? If you are a Christian and accidentally go to a cult-house, if they can't dliver you, you will deliver them! ;-)

Christianity EtcMuch Ado About T.b. Joshua... by Achutebe(op): 5:11pm On Nov 25, 2014
Just read this article on today's Nigerian Pilot...

MUCH ADO ABOUT T.B. JOSHUA

THE average Nigerian citizen is not asking for too much if other men of God and government figures at all levels compliment the current effort of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration by taking a cue from Prophet T.B. Joshua, the General Overseer of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN) who has continued to exemplify true love and service to mankind.

He has become the archetypal father to orphans, widows, the destitute and all those who have found themselves at the unfortunate junctions of life. He has continued to dole out funds in defence of the defenceless. Scores of Nigerian students are on scholarship in Nigerian and foreign universities through his philanthropic efforts. In conjunction with his Emmanuel TV partners, the Ondo-State born prophet, through his ministry’s humble demeanours, has etched Nigeria’s name on illustrious heights. A country that was once famed for untoward posturing is now becoming a hub for spiritual rejuvenation. Let us not also forget the foreign exchange the influx of foreigners is generating for the country. Even the local businesses around the church cannot conceal the fact that life has been good.

Though he has been maligned by those who have not been able to attune themselves to the spiritual frequency at which he is operating, he has never joined issues with anybody; instead, he has preoccupied himself with his ministry’s principle of ‘spend more on others, less on ourselves’. As a Christian leader, he is aware that blackmail will certainly rear its ugly head, knowing that even Jesus Christ Himself was accused of performing miracles using the power of Beelzebub, the prince of demons. Some self-acclaimed experts in Christian demonology have called him all sorts of names, but with a Christ-like mien, he has refused to be drawn into any sort of media war with anyone. “By their fruits, you shall know them” – here is a man who doesn’t even have a car he calls his own in a country where some other ministers of God fly private jets over famished congregations and yet they call him names. Judgment is up to God. A ministry that has steadily progressed for almost thirty years has no doubt, gone through the test of time.

Contrary to reports in some media that the church only employs its members as workers, a visit to the Ikotun-based ministry revealed otherwise. The SCOAN is an equal opportunity employer; Christians from other denominations as well as Muslims work there. There are no discriminations. Our religious and political leaders should emulate this concept. If all governors, senators and Reps members can form a league and do what he has been doing for Nigerians, the country would have gone beyond the ignoble trenches of harbouring some of the world’s most venerated beggars lining up streets in major cities and attracting the CNNs, AFPs, BBCs and Al-Jazeeras of this media-centric world.

Amid footage of people living in the most squalid conditions, we hear of politicians purchasing vehicles with money that can feed an entire community for years. As we inch closer to the 2015 general elections, politicians are already conceptualising winning strategies to further their interests in political offices. Some, if not most governors who have either done very well or failed woefully are bidding the gubernatorial landscape goodbye and are thought to be warming up to retire to the senate. While it is not a crime to aspire to leadership positions, there must be a deliberate design by the federal government, the EFCC and the INEC to regulate the mutation of ex-governors into senators. If there are performance benchmarks that qualify or disqualify candidates in such equations, we will enjoy some level of sanity and order in the process. Because the beauty of our politics has been centred on how much money a particular politician can throw around, it has become increasingly difficult to check the escalation of political rascality at all tiers of government.

In Nigeria, some local government chairmen own luxury hotels while some governors spend billions of naira on hotel accommodation – funds that could have been channelled into other areas begging for attention.

It is sad that we are still living in an era when a significant percentage of our population is struggling to feed properly. With the enormity of resources we have been blessed with, we should have gone far beyond this piteous state. The proponents of stomach infrastructure may not have conceived it as a political weapon to cajole the hungry into making induced decisions during elections, yet it has been given diabolical interpretations by those who claim that as a nation, Nigeria should have been thousands of miles ahead in economic prosperity.

TB Joshua is not a god, he is just a pastor. That some people hold him in high esteem is up to them. Everyone has people they keep as their role models, some have superstars and celebs like Beyonce, Jay Z, Basketmouth etc etc etc. Some prefer men of God, some have their parents.

It is not really the point is it?

The point is, is TB Joshua guilty of collapsing the building or not? I think if you as a sane and mature human being reflect on it, you would know that he is not. But no matter what we say on this forum can't really change anyone's mind because you have already decided that he is guilty.

So there is no point on arguing if he is or not. Let us wait and see what the court says. I think that is the purpose of court isn't it? And unless you are a barrister that has passed the nigerian barr. test, please do not besmirch the on-going court case, because at the end of the day, that would be the highest level of ignorance from our side.

So far, the court has never said that TB Joshua is to be blamed. On what ground? That the building is on his compound? He is not an engineer for God's sake. They should take the engineers, architects and construction companies that built the house to court...

On a final note, do you think anyone in this world can say no to a summon to court? Obviously it is only media that is carrying an angled story for people to once again see TB Joshua in a bad light.

I personally think the Coroner is going beyond his boundaries in order to embarrass TB Joshua, maybe because he didn't like his way of ministering or his way of praying for people... I don't know. All I know is that people invited to witness are people that either saw the incident or were directly involved in the construction of the building..
