This is a very interesting topic. My parent told me that Onicha Uku Onicha Olona Onicha Ugbo and Onicha Nmili (Onitsha) were of the same parent. When they became adult they settled down in where they are today in Delta State. But the brothers had a bitter quarrel and this got Onicha Nmili very angry that he decided to cross the Niger river to settle down where Onitsha is today. I don't know how true this story is, but Onitsha people has similar dialect with the other Onicha's. that is quite different from other typical Igbo speaking people in the core south east. |
I schooled in Enugu and I became familiar with ogene genre during those years. This particular guy Ogene Onyeoma was spectacular. here is one of his track on YouTube. I Love his voice and the transition in the music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeLJGgvCups |
In fact BEDC is the worst of all the DISCO. In May our transformer went bad. They said for us to get light we have to repair it ourselves. The cost of the repair was 500000 naira at Onitsha. Each building in the area was billed 10000 naira to raise the money. When they brought the transformer back after about a month. They said we were owing BEDC 25, 000, 000 naira. That if the debt is not cleared they will not reconnect the transformer. All the landlord in the area had to match to their office to asked them to go from house to house to disconnect anybody owning them that kind off money. When they realise that their game was up they connected us. Then they brought my bill with over 20, 000 naira consumption for a month and half that we did not have light. I went to their office to complain they said that it was what I consumed. I said how. My meter was never read. How did I consume such an amount inside darkness. The guy was looking at me. I asked if I have to pay for darkness. He could not answer. Up till now I am still battling with them to get the problem corrected, but it seems they are not willing to correct it. The government is just playing to the gallery with this their statement. They don't monitor all these DISCO's. The DISCO know this fact that is why they misbehave a lot. Lisaint: |
The Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State, has commenced a three-day warning strike over allegations of massive cuts in their salaries. JAC is the umbrella body of staff unions in the university, which include Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Union of Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT). The workers in a circular dated April 6, 2017 and addressed to the university’s Chairman of Council, expressed dismay over the development since 2016, pointing out that whereas there was no cut in the allowances of council members. In the circular signed by the University’s ASUU Chairman, Agbalagba Ezekiel and four other union leaders, the workers also passed a vote of no confidence on the Governing Council. They alleged that the council has been unable to attract the needed funds for the institution’s infrastructure development since inception four years ago. According to circular made available to newsmen, the unions also protested the abandonment of two student hostels, which it alleged has gulped an unjustifiable amount of money spent on it so far.The university registrar could not be reached for comment as telephone calls to his mobile phone were not taken. https://guardian.ng/appointments/crisis-looms-in-fupre-over-alleged-salary-cut/ |
I weep for my country naija. At the way things are going in this country, I beg to say that this country can never get better. It is not a course but reality. The people we have in leadership position are not helping matters at all. Even the followers too. Everybody is just concerned about how to get a piece of the country not to contribute to its growth. Even under this very administration that prides itself as a corruption fighter, many underhand activities are going on in the government circle. Just call any government office in Abuja for example Budget Office or the Accountant General Office to process your budgetary allocation approved for your agency, the staff there will demand gratification from you before they will even move your file. It is so pathetic. Were do we go from here my dear country? God help us. profhezekiah: |
Yesterday I went to purchase prepaid electric bill, the sales person asked if I am aware that PHCN has increased the billing rate from 24 Naira to about 31 Naira? I said I wasn't aware of any such thing and I asked him, how come there was no mention of such on any of the Nigerian dailies. I felt probably he wasn't sure of what he was saying since it is a private shop. When I got home I searched the net to confirm, but there was no news anywhere about it. Later I saw a friend that works with Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), I asked to confirm. He confirmed it to be true. I asked him why there was no news about it, he said they did it surreptitiously in order not to provoke the sensitivity of Nigerians. That people will get to know about it when they receive their January bills next month. So, I felt I should bring it to the notice of everyone so that the shock will be bearable when we receive our bill next month. Anyone with genuine information should please confirm this. Thanks |
