PoliticsPDP Invites Ex-vp, Rules Out Automatic Ticket For Him by actiondrilling(op): 6:16am On Nov 25, 2017
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, urged former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to return to its fold, following his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition party, however, ruled out automatic presidential ticket to the former vice president or any other aspirants, but assured them that a level playing ground has been put in place to allow every member realise his or her ambition. The PDP at a press conference addressed by its spokesman, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, in Abuja, also raised the alarm about alleged plot by some of its members to organise a parallel national convention on December 9.

The party praised Atiku for realising his mistakes in defecting to the APC in the first instance, based on empty promises, adding: “Atiku, who was one of the founding fathers, contested and won elections as governor of Adamawa State on the platform of the PDP.

“However and unfortunately, in 2013, he was deceived into believing that there was a platform that would correct all the ills in the PDP and that it could create an Eldorado in Nigeria.“I believe they were deceived, people like Atiku, because we had challenges in our party at that point in time, they went and joined the new party called the APC, which every Nigerian has now seen is a fallacy.”

Declaring that the PDP remains open to Atiku to join, Adeyeye said: “It is human to make mistakes because we are not infallible. We have no knowledge of what will happen in the future. Human beings can always be deceived. But in John 8: 32, the Bible says ‘And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.’

“I believe Atiku has come to know the truth, like he said in the statement that he has now known the truth, that the APC is not what they call themselves, that APC is not a better platform.”The PDP said it believes Atiku has seen the truth and the truth has now set him free, adding: “Being a founding father and because we have an umbrella that is big enough to accommodate everybody, he could simply return.

“PDP is a democratic party. PDP is a free party and was conceived for all Nigerians and is free from all religious, ethnicity and geographical divisions.

“It has capacity to accommodate everybody. Our doors are open for him to come back to his home without any precondition. He is free to come back, like every other Nigerian, and we want to appeal to those who have not seen the truth and we are praying that they will soon see the truth, so that the truth will set them free. And as soon as they are free, let them come back,” the party stated.

On the alleged plot by some elements in the party to convene a parallel convention, Adeyeye said:“The National Caretaker Committee (NCC) has uncovered plans by some unscrupulous members of our party to hold a parallel national convention in December 9.

“This is totally uncalled for and a complete act of sabotage. Those making such plans cannot be said to be honest members of our party. They are not patriotic, but just out to destroy our party.”

According to Adeyeye, the plan was unnecessary, as the NCC has been working very hard to carry all members and supporters along in all the preparations for the convention.“One of the steps taken by the leadership is to make available and in good time, the comprehensive names of all the delegates to all the aspirants before the convention.

“We, therefore, see no reason for any honest member to want to disrupt our programmes, except they are of course working for the ruling APC.”

He also accused the APC of planning to destabilise the convention, adding: “Apart from the internal fighting within the APC, one of the reasons why the party postponed its national convention to next year was to enable it to monitor closely our convention, with a view to destabilising our party ahead of the 2019 general elections. “The planned parallel convention is one of those ideas of the APC to create division amongst members of our party.”

PoliticsFull Letter:atiku Resigns From APC by actiondrilling(op): 9:07am On Nov 24, 2017
Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress.

Abubakar confirmed this in a statement he personally signed on Friday.

He also gave reasons for quitting the party.

However, he did not state which party he intends to join, but said he is pondering on his political future.
The statement, titled: “Statement of resignation of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa) Vice President of Nigeria, 1999-2007 from the All Progressives Congress,” reads in full…
“On the 19th of December, 2013, I received members of the All Progressives Congress at my house in Abuja. They had come to appeal to me to join their party after my party, the Peoples Democratic Party, had become factionalized as a result of the special convention of August 31, 2013.
“The fractionalization of the Peoples Democratic Party on August 31, 2013 had left me in a situation where I was, with several other loyal party members, in limbo, not knowing which of the parallel executives of the party was the legitimate leadership.

“It was under this cloud that members of the APC made the appeal to me to join their party, with the promise that the injustices and failure to abide by its own constitution which had dogged the then PDP, would not be replicated in the APC and with the assurance that the vision other founding fathers and I had for the PDP could be actualized through the All Progressives Congress.
“It was on the basis of this invitation and the assurances made to me that I, being party-less at that time, due to the fractionalization of my party, accepted on February 2, 2014, the hand of fellowship given to me by the All Progressives Congress.
“On that day, I said “it is the struggle for democracy and constitutionalism and service to my country and my people that are driving my choice and my decision” to accept the invitation to join the All Progressives Congress.
“Like you, I said that because I believed that we had finally seen the beginnings of the rebirth of the new Nigeria of our dreams which would work for all of us, old and young.
“However, events of the intervening years have shown that like any other human and like many other Nigerians, I was fallible.

“While other parties have purged themselves of the arbitrariness and unconstitutionality that led to fractionalization, the All Progressives Congress has adopted those same practices and even gone beyond them to institute a regime of a draconian clampdown on all forms of democracy within the party and the government it produced.
“Only last year, a governor produced by the party wrote a secret memorandum to the president which ended up being leaked. In that memo, he admitted that the All Progressives Congress had ‘not only failed to manage expectations of a populace that expected overnight ‘change’ but has failed to deliver even mundane matters of governance’.
“Of the party itself, that same governor said ‘Mr. President, Sir Your relationship with the national leadership of the party, both the formal (NWC) and informal (Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso), and former Governors of ANPP, PDP (that joined us) and ACN, is perceived by most observers to be at best frosty. Many of them are aggrieved due to what they consider total absence of consultations with them on your part and those you have assigned such duties.
“Since that memorandum was written up until today, nothing has been done to reverse the treatment meted out to those of us invited to join the All Progressives Congress on the strength of a promise that has proven to be false. If anything, those behaviours have actually worsened.
“But more importantly, the party we put in place has failed and continues to fail our people, especially our young people. How can we have a federal cabinet without even one single youth.
“A party that does not take the youth into account is a dying party. The future belongs to young people.
“I admit that I and others who accepted the invitation to join the APC were eager to make positive changes for our country that we fell for a mirage. Can you blame us for wanting to put a speedy end to the sufferings of the masses of our people?
“Be that as it may be, after due consultation with my God, my family, my supporters and the Nigerian people whom I meet in all walks of life, I, Atiku Abubakar, Waziri Adamawa, hereby tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress while I take time to ponder my future.
“May God bless you and may God bless Nigeria”.

Foreign AffairsRuling Party Assured Mugabe He Wouldn’t Face Prosecution by actiondrilling(op): 7:09am On Nov 24, 2017
Zimbabwe’s ruling party assured Robert Mugabe that he wouldn’t be prosecuted if he resigned, a party official said Thursday, as the fate of the 93-year-old became clearer and the country prepared to move on. “Prosecuting him was never part of the plan,” ZANU-PF chief whip Lovemore Matuke told The Associated Press. “He is safe, his family is safe and his status as a hero of his country is assured. All we were saying is resign or face impeachment.”

As Zimbabwe prepared to witness the swearing-in of new president Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday morning, its citizens circulated on social media a new photo showing what appeared to be Mugabe at the end of his 37-year rule.

Mugabe and his wife are shown sitting on a sofa with advisers standing behind them. A dejected-looking Grace Mugabe, who just days ago had been poised to replace Mnangagwa after his firing as vice president and even succeed her husband, looks off camera. A listing Robert Mugabe’s eyes are closed. The photo could not immediately be verified.

Mugabe, who resigned on Tuesday as lawmakers began impeaching him, has not spoken publicly since his stunning speech on Sunday defying calls from the military, ruling party and the people to step down. But it appears he and his wife will remain in the capital, Harare.
According to protocol, Mugabe could even be present at the 75-year-old Mnangagwa’s swearing-in on Friday morning at a 60,000-seat stadium after making a triumphant return to the country. He fled shortly after his firing, claiming threats to his life.
Mnangagwa’s speech upon his return Wednesday night outside ruling party headquarters promised “a new, unfolding democracy” and efforts to rebuild a shattered economy. But he also recited slogans from the ruling ZANU-PF party, unlikely to reassure the opposition.
The opposition party MDC-T, which supported Mugabe’s removal, said it had not been invited to the inauguration. Spokesman Obert Guru said the party was closely watching Mnangagwa’s next moves, “particularly regarding the dismantling of all the oppressive pillars of repression.”
In a new statement Thursday, Mnangagwa urged Zimbabweans against “vengeful retribution.” The pastor who led large anti-government protests last year, Evan Mawarire, says Zimbabweans should let Mnangagwa know that the country should be for everyone and not just the ruling party.
Mnangagwa, a former justice and defense minister with close ties to the military who served for decades as Mugabe’s enforcer, remains on a US sanctions list over allegations of violently cracking down on opponents.
He fled Zimbabwe after being fired on Nov. 6 and was in hiding during the week-long political drama that led to Mugabe’s resignation. His appearance on Wednesday, flanked by heavy security, delighted supporters who hope he can guide Zimbabwe out of political and economic turmoil.
Mnangagwa will serve Mugabe’s remaining term until elections at some point next year. Opposition lawmakers who have alleged vote-rigging in the past say balloting must be free and fair, a call the United States and others have echoed.
Mugabe’s resignation was met with wild celebrations by people thrilled to be rid of a leader whose early promise after taking power at the end of white minority rule in 1980 was overshadowed by economic collapse, government dysfunction and human rights violations.
On Thursday, an editorial in the privately run NewsDay newspaper said Mnangagwa has “an unenviable task” and that he should set up a coalition government that represents all Zimbabweans.

PoliticsINEC: How Anambra Election Conduct Rekindled 2019 Hopes by actiondrilling(op): 6:53am On Nov 24, 2017
The fair conduct of the Anambra State gubernatorial and one State House of Assembly seat elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last Saturday, despite security threats, has rekindled hope from stakeholders on what to expect in the 2019 elections, SUNDAY ISUWA reports.

The timetable for the conduct of the Anambra State governorship election was released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nine months earlier, only for it to be met with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOP) threat.

IPOB had released a statement asking the Anambra State people to stay away from the voting centres saying, “If you vote, you die.”
INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, while carrying out their statutory duties as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution and the electoral act, reported the security threat to the security agencies who also acted promptly.
According to INEC, the election in Anambra State was historic because no state in Nigeria has fielded 37 candidates in a gubernatorial election in the country.
The commission also said that it was the first time the state had 2,158, 171 registered voters.
It was the first time in 2017 that the commission combined a gubernatorial election with a state house of assembly by-election.
Preparing voters and other stakeholders for the election, the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu said, “The decision on who becomes the governor of Anambra State, rests with the people of the state. We shall uphold their choice without favour or ill will.”
“INEC is neither for nor against any political party or candidate. INEC has no candidate in this election.”
“Let me further reiterate that this election in Anambra State is unique in many respects. With 37 political parties fielding candidates, this is the first governorship election to be conducted by the largest number of political parties in the history of Nigeria.”
“Secondly, with 2,158, 171 voters, it is the election with the largest number of PVCs collection in the history of Anambra State,” Yakubu added.
To lend more credence to their preparation, the commission accredited 605 Journalists to cover the election.
42 local and seven international observers were also accredited in a state that has 21 LGA, three senatorial districts, 326 registration areas, 4608 polling units, 731 voting points and a total of 2,158,171 registered voters.
The observers that monitored the election include: European Union (EU); British High Commission; US Embassy; High Commission of Canada; International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES); African Union Economic; Social and Cultural Council and National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI).
The 47 local observers that monitored the election include: African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development; Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness; Initiative for Promotion of Civic Obligation and Sustainable Peace; African Initiative for Sustainable and Positive Development as well as Network of Civil Society Organisation in Nigeria.
Observers, politicians, political parties and other stakeholders have commended INEC over what they described as fair and peaceful conduct of the Anambra State election.
The State governor, Willie Obiono of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) won the election by a landslide.
Obiano, who won in all the 21 LGAs, polled 234,071 votes to defeat his distant rival, Tony Nwoye of the APC. The PDP candidate, Oseloka Obaze came third while Osita Chidoka of United Progressives Party (UPP) came a distant fourth.
Even though there were some reports of card reader malfunctioning and delay in result collation, the commission was able to manage the situation on time.
The Nigerian main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could not immediately commend over the election in Anambra State.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), commended INEC for conducting a peaceful, free and fair election.
According to APC, even though its candidate came a distant second in the election, the party believed INEC showed it’s independence because of the purposeful leadership provided by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what is regarded as a credible election, which passes the integrity test. Similarly, we praise the high level of dedication and professionalism displayed by the security agencies and other ad-hoc staff mobilised for the election.”
“As a party, we believe the smooth conduct of the election, irrespective of its outcome, is a testimony to our Party and President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to free, fair and transparent polls,” a statement signed by the APC national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said.
On his part, the Labour Party (LP) chairman, Dr Mike Omotosho also commended INEC over its conduct of the election and urged them to maintain the momentum to the 2019 general elections.
Omotosho commended the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC administration for allowing the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC the free hand to operate in Anambra State.
He also applauded the security agencies for maintaining law and order during the elections. These he noted, reaffirms the significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which establish that the authority to govern shall be based on the will of the people as expressed in periodic and genuine elections.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who also participated in the election monitoring, applauded INEC over what it described as a hugely successful conduct of Anambra State governorship election..
NLC asked the commission to build on the present successes for the 2019 general election.
NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, in a statement in Abuja said: “We urge INEC to build on this success in subsequent elections as its credibility is key to the success or outcome of other elections. INEC may wish to commence this process by early preparations as well as plugging identified lopholes in the Anambra election.
Reacting, INEC chief press secretary, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, said the commission is happy that Nigerians have appreciated their efforts.
He said even though the commission is working hard to ensure hitch free conduct of elections at all levels, he added that they will build on the gains recorded.
Speaking on the reported malfunctioning of the card reader, Oyekanmi said: “from the reports we got from the field, only about 95 out of the 6,200 Card Readers deployed had issues.”
“This is less than two per cent of the total and adequate provision was made for this kind of eventuality. However, some of the issues have to do with the way some voters handle their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). There is a security chip on each PVC and if it is broken, the Card Reader will not be able to read its features.”
“So, mishandling can cause the damage. If you put your PVC in your back pocket for instance and sit on a hard surface, the chip could be broken. Our appeal to voters is to ensure that they keep their PVCs in safe places for adequate preservation. However, the commission will study the report on why some Card Readers failed to function effectively and correct any error noticed in future elections,” Oyekanmi said.

BusinessCourt Strikes Out Oando’s Suit Against SEC by actiondrilling(op): 6:35am On Nov 24, 2017
A Federal High Court, Lagos, has struck out a case filed by Oando Plc against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), seeking to stop the Commission from conducting a forensic audit on the company and also lift a technical suspension placed on its shares.

The trial judge, Justice Mohammed Aikawa, consequent upon a preliminary objection filed by counsel to SEC, George Uwechue (SAN), struck out the case on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter and advised Oando to take its case to the Investment and Securities Tribunal (IST).

“I hold that the subject matter of this issue falls within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Investment and Securities Tribunal (IST) and not this court.

“In addressing this issue, I find the provisions of the Investment and Securities Act 2007 quite instructive. Section 284 of the ISA (2007) says the tribunal shall, to the exclusion of any other court of law or body in Nigeria, exercise jurisdiction to hear and determine any question of law or dispute involving -(a) a decision or determination of the Commission in the operation and application of this Act, and in particular, relating to any dispute – (i) between capital market operators; (ii) between capital market operators and their clients; (iii) between an investor and a securities exchange or capital trade point or clearing and settlement agency; (iv) between capital market operators and self-regulatory organisation; (b) the Commission and self-regulatory organisation; (c) a capital market operator and the Commission; (d) an investor and the Commission; (e) an issuer of securities and the Commission; and jurisdiction of the tribunal and so on and (f) disputes arising from the administration, management and operation of collective investment schemes.

“It is not in dispute that the matter before me is a dispute between capital market operators,” he declared in his ruling.

According to the judge, the duty of the court is to apply the law, saying: “On this premise, I have no option than to uphold the preliminary objection. I also in the same vein uphold the preliminary objection of the second defendant (Nigerian Stock Exchange). This court lacks the jurisdiction to adjudicate the dispute between both parties.

“The proper place for this matter to go is IST. I, therefore, strike out this matter.”

Oando approached the Federal High Court to obtain an order to stop the suspension of its shares and an impending forensic audit after

SEC, on October 18, directed the NSE to place the shares of Oando Plc on full suspension for 48 hours and on technical suspension from Friday, October 20.

The suspension, according to SEC, was to enable it conduct a forensic audit into the affairs of Oando Plc following petitions and protests by some aggrieved shareholders leading to a directive by the House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market to issue a directive to the regulator to investigate the grievances.

SEC explained in a statement in October that it carried out a comprehensive review of the petitions and found a breach of the provisions of the Investments & Securities Act 2007 and discrepancies in the shareholding structure of Oando Plc, among others.

It said these findings were weighty and therefore needed to be further investigated.

PoliticsOur Security Architecture Has Collapsed – Senate by actiondrilling(op): 6:26am On Nov 23, 2017
Senators yesterday reflected on the rising insecurity across the country, concluding that the security architecture has collapsed.

Senators spoke during the debate on a motion on the killings in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, sponsored by Senator Tijjani Kaura (APC, Zamfara) and seconded by Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima (APC, Zamfara).

The lawmakers who debated the rising insecurity for over two hours resolved to constitute a special ad-hoc committee to review the current security infrastructure in consultation with security agencies and come up with the way forward.

Speaking on the challenge, Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara) said the situation has forced youth to bear arms even in Gusau the state capital.

“More worrisome is the proliferation of arms. Our youth are forced to bear arms, you see people bearing arms without hindrance. Unless something is done, I foresee that axis becoming heavily militarised,” he said.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu said the insecurity has assumed a national dimension threatening the economic development of the country.

Calling for the decentralization of the country’s police, Ekweremadu said Benue people are facing challenge over the grazing law and threats by the Niger Delta Avengers to resume attacks on oil installations.

“Centralised police is not helping matters. Senator Marafa just said people are bearing arms in Zamfara. Why won’t they, when you have 350,000 policemen for 170 million Nigerians. We must decentralise the police and address the insufficiency,” he said.

Also, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC, Kebbi) said the rising insecurity was as a result of the total collapse of the country’s security architecture.

Abdullahi who was a member of presidential committee on National security during former president Olusegun Obasanjo called for the review of the entire architecture.

“The entire national security architecture in the country has collapsed. Local fire is quenched locally. Intelligence must be strengthened. We have to sit down, look at it and review the entire architecture based on our needs,” he said.

Citing Daily Trust report, Senator Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe) said aside Boko Haram, a lot of people are being killed by ethnic militia.

“A lot of Fulani women and children were slaughtered, according to newspapers by Bachama militia. These kinds of killings are alien to us. I’m not against state police but we must go beyond that. People that were killed yesterday (Tuesday) were not killed by people outside Numan. So, if we have state police, they might take side,” he said.

For his part, Senator James Manager (PDP, Delta) said: “Throughout the country, we have similar cases like that of Zamfara State. Something has to be done. Every day we observe a one minute silence for the departed, the departed are too many.”

Senator Magnus Abe (APC, Rivers) threw his weight behind the total overhauling of the country’s security architecture, saying “Otherwise we will continue to have this kind of conversion.”

In his remark, Senate President Bukola Saraki said the collapse of the country’s security architecture was responsible for the proliferation of firearms.

“It is the collapse of the security infrastructure that led to impunity with people carrying all forms of weapons. We will redesign the structure and based on that we will arrive at the solution,” he said.

Saraki said members of the ad hoc committee to review the country’s security architecture would be named today.

PoliticsSenate Reveals Why 2018 Budget May Not Be Passed Before January by actiondrilling(op): 5:48am On Nov 23, 2017
The Senate yesterday said that it may not be able to pass the 2018 budget before January 2018 due to the attitude of some government agencies towards providing critical insights to the appropriation document.

Briefing journalists after yesterday’s plenary, Senate Spokesman, Aliu Saabi Abdullahi, said heads of most Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) have not been co-operating with the National Assembly on budget issues.

His words: “We want to report that the Senate is disturbed by a new trend where heads or chief executives of critical institutions who should play a critical role in this budget process but choose to ignore the invitation by the Senate to appear before it for deliberation.

“Specifically, on Tuesday when we had a deliberation, the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning was around. But based on the discussion we were supposed to have to look at the revenue projections, which are the basis for the MTEF, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC did not show up.

“Also, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and Director of the Department for Petroleum Resources (DPR) all failed to show up.”

He said the question if the national budget was important and everyone depends on the country’s resources to run their businesses, what other business could be more important than looking at this very critical assignment?

Abdullahi, who is also a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, observed that the speed needed in passing the budget could not be realised because of the attitude of most heads of the agencies.

He argued that a situation where heads of MDAs send representatives that are powerless and could not answer critical questions was not as good as the heads attending such critical sessions, adding that some of them never even sent any representative.

“It is important that we report this because, overall, the media will still come back to us asking what progress are we making and why are we slow in taking decisions.

“We are trying our best and we want to see what progress we can make but we are constrained by some of the actions of some chief executives in the Executive arm of government. Let it also be said that some people are not giving maximum cooperation to the National Assembly for us to do our job,” he added.

PoliticsWhy We Flooded Cross Rivers With Policemen Says Police by actiondrilling(op): 1:59pm On Nov 22, 2017
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Cross River State Command, CP Inuwa Hafiz has explained why there was a huge presence of Police on the streets of Cross River.

In a phone chart with Akelicious, Hafiz said that at the end of every year, the command embarks on what he described as ‘Operation Velvet’.

He explained that the exercise was aimed at recovering all stolen vehicles across the state and the nation, noting that a similar exercise was going on in other parts of the country.
“It is operation velvet, normally, at the end of the year, every command in the country intensify security operation aimed at recovering stolen and robbed vehicles.
According to him, the command receives reports of stolen vehicles and the only way to recover these vehicles are through these checks his command was doing.
“There have been reports of alleged stolen vehicles and other criminal activities in the state” he said. He confirmed that the exercise started yesterday, “The activity started yesterday”.

Consequently, as security operatives in Cross River State embarked on security checks in the state aimed at recovering stolen and robbed vehicles, owners of vehicles have deserted the roads.
Akelicious monitored the exercise on various streets where the exercise was being carried out, and observed that uniform personnel were seen conducting checks on vehicles.
The security men and officers from the Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were seen at various roads checking vehicle particulars.
The presence of these security operatives on the streets scared vehicle owners particularly commercial vehicle operators whose car’s particulars are not complete and they have deserted the roads causing challenges for workers and business men and women.

Some government workers, it was gathered, reported late to work today because of scarcity of commercial vehicles. Sadly, some government workers whose vehicle’s particulars are not complete left their cars at home and walked to work.

PoliticsEkwueme Hero Of Democracy – David Mark by actiondrilling(op): 6:16pm On Nov 20, 2017
A former President of the Senate, Sen. David Mark, has described the late Second Republic Vice-President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, as a quintessential leader and hero of democracy in Nigeria.

Mark expressed the view in a statement, issued by his Media Assistant, Mr Paul Mumeh, in Abuja on Monday.

Mark said that the late elder statesman was outstanding in character and leadership and described him as a foremost leader of modern Nigeria.

He said beside Ekwueme’s success in politics, he was among the leading indigenous architects, who designed the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT), Abuja.

Mark recalled Ekwueme’s relentless struggle for the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria when he led the G34 that metamorphosed into Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that formed the government in 1999.

He stressed that Ekwueme propounded the segmentation of Nigeria into six geo-political zones during the 1994, 1995 National Constitutional Conference convoked by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha.

“Interestingly, the six geo political zonal structure ( North West, North East, South East, South West, North Central and South South ) have remained the a road map for power sharing arrangement in Nigeria today.

“Nigeria and indeed Africa have lost a visionary leader, a forefront politician who brought intellectualism into governance.

“His quest for excellence, due process and rule of law in Nigeria will remain a reference point in politics and leadership in many years to come.

“No doubt, history will be kind to Ekwueme for his immeasurable contributions to the political, socio and economic development of Nigeria,’’ Mark said.

He urged the Federal Government to immortalise Ekwueme for his selfless contributions to the nation.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines and Boeing have announced an order for four Boeing 777 Freighters – the world’s largest and longest-range twin-engine cargo jet – in a deal valued at more than $1.3 billion at list prices. The deal includes a new order for two freighters. It also includes two freighters the airline announced as a commitment in June that finalised into a firm order and posted on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website this month.
“This airplane order will provide Ethiopian’s Cargo & Logistics business with enhanced cargo capacity and better operating economics as we continue to build one of the largest cargo terminals in the world,” said Tewolde GebreMariam, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, who signed for the new airplanes at the 2017 Dubai Airshow.

@www.Akelicious.com

Two of the most innovative brands from the stable of Chi Limited have been recognised for delivering superior values to the market and exhibiting excellence in upholding effective marketing strategies at the recently held 2017 edition of the Marketing World Awards.

Whilst Chivita Active Vegetable Fruit Nectar came tops in the Best Use of Packaging category, Hollandia ChocoMalt Drink was recognised as the Emerging Brand of the Year in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) category.
For Chivita Active Vegetable Fruit Nectar, while its offering of vegetable and fruit in one mix is the first of its kind in Nigeria, it is the brand’s ambient and aseptic packaging, which again happens to be a first of its kind, that saw it pick up the award for the Best Use of Packaging.

The offer of vegetable and fruit juice in a packaging that does not require refrigeration and is free from contamination, along with a cutting edge design, rich vegetable, fruit and juice visuals combined perfectly with an appealing colour pallet, is one that resonates with consumers who lead an active lifestyle and are primed to achieve more.

While it was awarded the Emerging Brand of the Year for a FMCG, Hollandia ChocoMalt Drink is the first ready-to-drink chocolate, malt and milk drink in the Nigerian market.

It is rich in vitamins and minerals, and takes away the hassles and inconvenience associated with preparing a choco-based drink the traditional way. As a product, it is fast reshaping consumption trends for a choco-based beverage because of its ready to drink convenience and offer of instant “sharp sharp” nutrition.

According to Akin Naphtal, Chief Executive Officer of Instinctwave, this year’s edition of the Marketing World Awards showcased the latest industry innovations and initiatives, while recognising the exceptional work of marketing champions over the past 12 months. He reiterated that like the proverbial golden fish, innovative brands like Chivita Active Vegetable Fruit Nectar and Hollandia ChocoMalt Drink deserve the recognition.

“Chivita Active Vegetable Fruit Nectar and Hollandia ChocoMalt Drink have not only pioneered new segments in the juice and choco-based beverage markets but have also within the last 12 months, achieved consumer preference status in their respective categories through innovative offerings and packaging,” he said.

Chi Limited’s Managing Director, Mr. Deepanjan Roy, indicated that the recognition of two of the company’s most recent innovative brands at the Marketing World Awards was a reflection of the resourcefulness and value-driven processes that have ensured product quality, from conception to packaging.

“The awards received by both of our brands at the Marketing World Awards show our continued desire to meet up with changing consumer needs. As always, the consumer is king; and thus, it is important to provide consumer satisfaction at all times. Innovation is key to achieving this. We are proud of these brands and their amazing stories of consumer satisfaction and achieved recognition,” he stated.

In addition to the Chivita Active Vegetable Fruit Nectar and Hollandia ChocoMalt Drink category wins at the Marketing World Awards, Chi Limited and brands from its stable have won a host of recognition in recent times.

PoliticsPdp Will Return To Winning Ways Again, Says Secondus by actiondrilling(op): 4:58am On Nov 18, 2017
The former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and National Chairmanship aspirants, Prince Uche Secondus has said that every member of the party would have a sense of belonging under his leadership if given the mandate.

Secondus said that the new leadership he intended to give the party if given the mandate would take the party to another level with a view to restoring its winning ways again.

A statement from Secondus Media office in Abuja said he made the pronouncements Thursday night at Ibro Hotel while addressing North Central delegates to the December 9th National Convention of the party.

He told the delegates that included former Governors, former Ministers, old and serving Senators and members of House of Representatives and other Chieftains of the party that PDP was at a crossroad and needed a leadership that would hit the ground running.

“Our party at the moment is not at a comfort zone and therefore requires purposeful leadership as it cannot afford any waste of time.

“With election around the corner, there is no time to learn, the party needs an experienced person and I think I have it having served the party at various levels meritoriously.
“Let me assure you that as your National Chairman, I would deliver votes and if I can’t deliver votes from my constituency I would resign.

Listing some of the achievements that stood him out to lead the party, Secondus said under his watch as National Organising Secretary, the party had the best internal and external elections.

He also said that as acting National Chairman, he set up a special committee that looked into the causes of the failure of the party in 2015 general election, pointing out that the post-mortem report which had been adopted by the National Executive Committee NEC would be a huge guide for him to rebuild, reform and regain the party.

Secondus also reminded the delegates how he saved the party from an impending constitutional crisis by ignoring the urge of the former National Chairman Alhaji Áli Modu Sheriff, who wanted him not to preside over the Port Harcourt convention and which became the grounds for the Supreme Court to dismiss Sheriff.

“If you give me your mandate, under my watch, I would decentralise power to states and get our members more involved in the running of the party.

“I would ensure that popular candidates fly our flag because when popular person hold the ticket, the election is 50% won

“The 2019 election is for us to take if we do the right thing and I can assure you that I have the skill, I have what it takes and the experience if you give me the mandate.
“I would not be distracted, I would leverage on the peace and support the party enjoys in my state and in my zone,” he concluded.

In a vote of thanks after the interaction, the former Governor of Plateau State and a current PDP serving Senator, Jonah Jang said the North Central delegates appreciated his humility of seeing himself as a servant of the party.
“What this party needs now is not a chairman but the chairman who would take the party to victory, we have all seen how painful and hurting it is to lose election,” he said.

The former governor however said that the PDP position at Aso Rock was still empty and members and their leaders should not keep God away in what they do or seek.

This is coming just as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also confirmed that sensitive materials have arrived Anambra State capital, Awka and are being distributed.

A document obtained by our correspondent from INEC shows that about 47 local observer groups will be joining their international counterparts to monitor the election.

PoliticsMy Ministers Are Performing Well, Says Buhari by actiondrilling(op): 4:44am On Nov 16, 2017
@Akelicious.com

Nigerians clamouring for the sack of some members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet over perceived inefficiency, might have to tarry a while before their wish would come true as the president on Tuesday night said he had confidence in his team.

The president, who spoke in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, while making closing remarks at a dinner organised in his honour by his host, Governor Dave Umahi, in the Banquet Hall of the Government House, said he had a good team.
According to the president, a number of his appointees were unknown to him before their appointments, pointing out that the appointments were based on merit and proven track records.

A statement by the president’s media adviser, Mr. Femi Adesina, Wednesday said Buhari also emphasised that he had always put the best interest of Nigeria into consideration before making decisions.

He said: ‘‘Some of the people holding high positions in the government, like my ministers, will tell you that I didn’t know them from Adam.
‘‘I just came across their names from the records and I worked with the records. I thank God that I have a very good team.’’

According to the statement, the president commended the governor for his development strides in the state, saying: ‘‘The absolute commitment of the governor to his position is very remarkable and I am very impressed.’’
While expressing gratitude to God and the people of Ebonyi State for recognising his modest contribution to the country, Buhari described Nigeria as a great country with incredible resources and highly talented people.
‘‘We should continue to pray to God that the elites that will be in charge of the country in the future fear God,’’ he said.Meanwhile, Buhari has directed the reinstatement of the security aides of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State.

While welcoming the president to Awka Wednesday for the grand finale of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship rally, the governor had complained about the withdrawal of his security aides.

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, had withdrawn the security aides of the governor at the weekend, claiming that he did that to provide a level playing field for all the gubernatorial contestants in the state.

But Adesina in a terse statement on his Facebook page Wednesday said Buhari while departing Awka directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Mr. Joshak Habila, to ensure the return of the governor’s security personnel.

Also deliberating on the matter, the Senate Wednesday condemned the police boss’ action, saying that it was improper and must be reversed immediately.
It directed its Chairman, Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim, to liaise with Idris and ensure that its resolution was respected by Thursday.

The Senate acted upon a motion moved by Senator Emmanuel Bwacha under Order 41, faulting the reasons given by the Idris for his action.

He said: “I woke up to my shock to listen to an explanation offered by the Inspector General of Police in respect of the withdrawal of security aides of the Governor of Anambra State.

“Mr. President, this matter is bi-partisan. The explanation offered went to the extent to mean that because there is a need for a level playground for all the aspirants in the Anambra governorship election, so, the governor who is a sitting governor should lose his security aides. Mr. President, I was in a state of shock when I received this explanation.

“The governor has lost his immunity on an election that everybody is allowed to participate. If a precedent is being set, we want clarification. That in 2019, if the president will contest, the president will lose all his security aides because we want a level playground. I am not a member of APGA but I know that injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere.”

Bwacha was backed by Senator Biodun Olujimi, who warned that Nigeria could become a “Banana nation” if the excesses of the police were not checked.

The Senate subsequently resolved to ask the police chief to restore the governor’s aides immediately.

PoliticsADC Endorses PDP Candidate, Oseloka Obaze by actiondrilling(op): 6:42am On Nov 13, 2017
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has endorsed candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Oseloka Obaze, mandating members and supporters to vote for the aspirant in Saturday’s election.

In a statement yesterday, ADC national chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu, said the party had agreed to back the Obaze/Chidi Onyemelukwe ticket and was “not going to field any candidate for the election”.

Nwosu said: “Politics aside, Anambra is my state and I want the best governor for my people. The decision was taken in the best interest of the people of Anambra.”

He expressed satisfaction with the PDP candidate’s four-pronged strategic compass of ethical governance and financial discipline; infrastructural development and boosting of entrepreneurship, commerce, agriculture, technology and innovation; education, employment, youth empowerment, gender mainstreaming and social safety nets; building of a modern and inspirational capital city and mosaic of theme parks, saying it was in consonance with the vision of the ADC.

“With 26 per cent of the state budget channeled into education, our youths will certainly be empowered to take the global stage by storm. This is a cardinal agenda of the ADC and we are happy to associate with leaders who are so driven,” said Nwosu.

He added: “The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has unfortunately derailed into a party for charlatans and little minded clansmen. A party founded since 2002 that has formed government for 12 years but has refused to expand should be put away. At this time, Anambra should have its focus on the national and global stage, and not on debilitating mercantile politics.”

CelebritiesBanky W Shares Recovery Story After 10-year Struggle With Cancer by actiondrilling(op): 6:26am On Nov 10, 2017
The artist revealed that he has undergone three successful surgeries to remove tumours from his shoulder, the last of which was carried out in October.

He put up a post on Instagram showing pictures of his surgery scars. He wrote:

“A wise man once said this: “Scars. A sign that you had been hurt. A sign that you had been healed.” Scroll through the pictures to see mine.I’m sharing these because they’re proof of what God has brought me through. And because somewhere out there, I know there’s someone who needs to hear this.

For those who’ve been wondering why I’ve been away so long..I had my 3rd surgery on a rare strain of skin cancer tumours in my shoulder last month. The first 2 times were over 10 yrs ago, then it recently resurfaced. But this isn’t a sad story as much as it is a reminder and a testimony.

A reminder that you should never take life for granted. You only get 1 shot. Some people went to sleep and never woke up. Many others have lost the battle to cancer and other illnesses. Many are still fighting. U never know when your time will be up so don’t waste another minute. It’s also a testimony about the goodness of God. I think I had to go through this again to remember how merciful God is to me; Lord knows I don’t deserve it but He saves me time and again anyway. I keep saying I need to write a book. I really, really do.

The past few weeks of recovery have been tough, but beautiful. I’m finally back on my feet, feeling stronger and ready to get back to life. I’m especially thankful to my Nurse Susu for loving me and being by my side every step of the way – I don’t deserve U , my parents & siblings, in-laws & close friends for the love, support and prayers, my Pastors – Pastor Tony Rapu & Pastor Del Balogun of TPH, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya and Pastor Bayo Adeyokunnu – for constantly praying with and for me. And of course to Dr Wodajo & Dr Miralli & their teams – who God used to operate on me successfully.

I’m thankful for life, provision and healing. Pls, don’t feel bad or msg me with any worries. God has done it, just thank Him for me.

The pain will eventually go away but the scar won’t – and I’m glad because it’s a reminder to me of what God has done, and evidence to you of what He CAN do. I’m not stronger or better than anyone. I’m just a living testimony that no matter what u face, U can survive & thrive, by God’s grace.

PoliticsNigeria’s Infrastructure Deficit Not A Problem, Says Osinbajo by actiondrilling(op): 6:08am On Nov 10, 2017
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit is not a problem but opportunity for the private sector to exploit and make significant contributions to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Osinbajo, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Infrastructure, Kolade Shofola, at the Nigerian Shippers Council’s (NSC) breakfast meeting for potential investors in the Truck Transit Park (TTP) projects in Lagos yesterday, said the idea of getting the private sector to develop the transport infrastructure is laudable and should be pursued to the benefit of the economy.

Besides, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who stated that the TTP in eight locations, and another six Inland Container Depots (ICD) were aimed at solving the current chaos in Nigerian ports, said he was optimistic that the N263.10 billion allocated to the ministry in the 2018 budget would sail through at the National Assembly without any reduction.

Also, Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, decried the attitude of truck drivers and the bad roads that usually caused road crashes and eventual killing of people.Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Oscar Onyeama, stressed the need to exploit the bond market in the quest to raising funds for infrastructure projects.
However, aviation stakeholders have decried poor state of infrastructure and investment at nation’s airports and airlines, describing it as unbefitting for the potential that abound in the air travel business.
The stakeholders, who spoke at the Aviation Round Table (ART) conference 2017 in Lagos yesterday, said most of the current physical infrastructure at airports were modelled after 1960 and have not really improved to accommodate sophisticated modern air travel business and benefit the economy.

President of the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI), organiser of the conference, Gbenga Olowo, observed that the problem of infrastructure is not exclusive to aviation, rather a challenge facing every sector of the economy “where critical facilities are either decaying or in deficit.”

But Chairman of the conference and former Secretary-General of African Airlines Association (AFRAA), Nick Fadugba, reiterated that aviation sector holds the key to economic development of the African continent, of which Nigeria is central.
Also, former Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren, observed that aviation sector could be divided into three: airlines, aerospace and onground infrastructure like the airport.

He said while a lot of investment is required for airlines and airports, “Nigeria is still zero in the aerospace section because we don’t manufacture anything (aircraft and spare-parts) locally.”

In a related vein, Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Captain Fola Akinkuotu, said that the current environment is such that it is so difficult for any airline to survive.Akinkuotu said even if government invests in all the visible infrastructure at the airports, the airlines must also upgrade their aircraft to be able to use the facilities and also be able to pay for services.

PoliticsConfusion In Ogun As Pdp Factions Battle Over Party Secretariat by actiondrilling(op): 6:04pm On Nov 06, 2017
The Sikirullai Ogundele led executive of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday dislodged the factional chairman, Engr. Bayo Dayo, and his team from the party’s state Secretariat on IBB Boulevard, Abeokuta and occupied the building.

Ogundele and other members of the newly elected executives stormed the Secretariat by noon and sacked junior workers employed by the factional executives and other people found at the facility, triggering confusion as the affected workers caught unaware scampered for safety.

Armed Policemen and others suspected to be Operatives of the Department of State Security Service(DSS) were also sighted at the area to ensure peace and orderliness.

And while taking over the party, Ogundele led executives were also joined by ex- Local Government chairmen and other prominent party leaders in the state.

This brings to a close, Bayo Dayo and his team loyal to Senator Buruji Kashamu, almost six years reign
at the state Secretariat of the PDP.The members of the new executives led by Hon Sikirullai Ogundele were elected into office last Saturday during the state Congress conducted by Electoral Committee led by Mr. Eddy Olafeso, who is the Chairman of Sout-West zone of the party.

Ogundele who spoke journalists lamented the looting and vandalising the party property, saying over five million naira equipment such as computers, fans among others have been vandalized and stolen.

“We have only come to take over the PDP property in accordance to the directive we got from Abuja that, every property of the party which is mainly the secretariat must be taken care of and we have just come to peacefully take over the secretariat.

“If you can remember vividly, I have once said it that at the appropriate time the security operatives will do their job and the take over and the secretariat will be taken care of.

“We the executives of the PDP in Ogun with the ex-Local Government chairmen and other prominent party members have only come here to take over the secretariat so that we can move the party forward.

“The disgruntled miscreant that has been kept here before now has just been sent out .

“No form of resistance, no problem infact we came in singing and dancing, we have decided to run a decent, united and peaceful party and for those who are aggrieved, we would extend the hand of fellowship to them.

” We would call them and we would do it together. We must just take over this state from the hands of the APC administration that is known for running a penny wise pounds foolish policy .

“We have just inspected the secretariat and we have noticed looting and vandalization of party equipment at least about N5 naira worth of equipment has been stolen and vandalized.

“We are going to take legal actions against them but we are going to await the instruction of our national secretariat and proper legal advice,” Ogundele said.

But reacting, the Publicity Secretary of Bayo Dayo – led factional executive, Bolaji Adeniji, described Ogundele and his executive members as dissident group.

Bolaji deplored the take over of the party Secretariat, saying it was an “invasion.”

He vowed that the Engr Bayo Dayo executive that has the statutory mandate between 2016 up to 2020 would return back to court to enforce its fundamental rights and retrieve the Secretariat from Ogundele and his camp.

“We learnt of the invasion of the secretariat by the dissident group in Ogun PDP. You will recall sometimes that there was an ongoing case at the state magistrate’s court where members of the erstwhile caretaker committee were there for contempt of court for parading themselves as the executives of the party.

“After that, there was an order of the magistrate court that prevented the conduct of any congress in Ogun State and that the police and the DSS should arrest, prosecute and investigate anybody found gathering anywhere that would call themselves the executives of the party.

“And I think in defiance of that order, which is now the modus operandi of this dissident group, they went and conducted congresses on Saturday. And this afternoon, we learnt that they invaded the party secretariat with truck load of touts and chased away the staff of the secretariat and pretending that they’ve taken over the secretariat. It is impunity of the most sordid manner.

“Definitely, the Engr Adebayo Dayo executive that has the statutory mandate between 2016 up to 2020 would return back to court to enforce its fundamental rights.

“We are going to challenge this; this cannot stand, it is illegality and it cannot stand. In the face of the constitution of our party, it cannot stand because there is a judgement of the Federal High Court that says that Engr Adebayo Dayo exco subsists until 2020. Also, a ruling of a magistrate court that says nobody should hold congress in Ogun State and nobody else should parade themselves as executives of the party in Ogun State. None of the judgement has been vitiated and therefore, none of these rulings have been appealed.

“Therefore, what right does this group have to have invaded the secretariat in such manner and claim to be executives of PDP in Ogun State. So, nothing has changed,” Bolaji said.

PoliticsSee What President Buhari Want To Be Remembered For by actiondrilling(op): 11:31am On Nov 01, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he wants Nigerians to remember him as a leader that met a vandalised Nigeria, and reset the buttons on almost all areas of national life — political, social, economic, local and international image.

According to Buhari, his government would not rest on its oars until the rots created in the nation’s political space by preceding government were cleared.

He made this points in an interview published in the current edition of African Economy.
Buhari said he met a vandalized Nigeria upon assumption of office in 2015 and has been ‎working hard to fix it before exit from office.
He said, “We are doing our best, and we will continue to do so. God is kind to us, giving us good rains and rich harvest for two consecutive years, and very soon, we would not have cause to import grains.
“We would be remembered as the government that put Nigeria on the path of food self-sufficiency. We would feed ourselves and export food, as well. The economy will be diversified and would be resilient to crash in oil prices in the international market.
“I will love this administration to be remembered as one that met a vandalised Nigeria, and reset the buttons on almost all areas of national life — political, social, economic, local and international image.
“I also want this government to be remembered as one that cleaned up the political space, especially in the area of elections.
“We would bequeath clean electioneering to the country, secure our land within and without, and give Nigerians a pride of place locally and internationally. We will do our best, offer honest leadership, and surely God will crown the efforts.”
