GWR: I will be more motivated to See Governor Umo Eno at my record breaking attempt - Mighty George

Award winning broadcast Journalist and sports presenter, George Iniabasi Essien popularly known as Mighty George has stated that the appearance of Governor Umo Eno at his attempt at Guinness World Record will motivate him more.

Essien, popularly known for his "What A Rush" slogan stated this at a press briefing on Thursday at Ceedapeg Hotels, Uyo, while making his official announcement In an attempt for the Longest Radio Talk Show (100 hours) tagged "Radio Record Rush".

He said that he has obtained all the relevant approvals from the regulating authority, adding that everything has been put in place including the technical units.

On the motivation behind the attempt, he said that his desire to aspire to do just more than radio presentation with a step higher, to give back to a station as Comfort Fm as the oldest staff, and to place Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at the world map were some of the factors behind the vision.

He highlighted his achievements to include being the holder of Nigeria's Broadcaster of the Year ( Radio).

" It is no news that I am the current holder of Nigeria's Broadcaster of the Year (Radio), I am also the Nigeria's Sport Journalist of the Year; and after all of these, I said to myself, let's see how we can go global and give it a try with the Guinness World Record.

"Before the current record holder set the record in 2017 ( 88hrs), it was 57 hours, so I had no choice than to push to 100hrs. I originally applied for 90hrs.

"Surprisingly, when I was relocating to Akwa Ibom State, some people asked if I was coming to the state for retirement, but it was in Akwa Ibom that I won all these awards.

" It was in Akwa Ibom that I covered all parts of the world up to Qatar, Russia; and it was at Comfort Fm in Akwa Ibom that I won Best Sports Journalist in Nigeria ( 2019), Nigeria's Best Presenter (2023), so this station and the state has given a lot to me and i said to myself, let's give back.

" I am excited with the level of support I have gotten from Comfort Fm, the Chairman of Comfort Fm. I am happy that the chairman has seen it from a broader perspective that the attempt is not just for personal glory."

He appreciated the media for the support, appealing for more of such support to serve as a motivation and to help him succeed.

The longest marathon hosting a radio talk show is 88 hours, and was achieved by Taishi Masuoka (Japan) at the Osaka Matsubara Internet Broadcasting radio station in Matsubara, Osaka, Japan, from 24 to 27 August 2017.

The event starts Sunday 27th April and will run till Thursday 1st May, 2025.

Statistics have shown that Akwa Ibom State currently rivals Lagos as Nigeria's tech hub, positioning the state as Africa's key player in the tech industry.

This was made known on Friday, 26 July, Uyo by a tech expert, Mr Hanson Johnson at a media chat with journalists in Uyo, the state capital ahead of Akwa Ibom Tech Week billed for October 28 to November 1 with the theme: Building a Resilient Innovation Ecosystem.

Hanson, flanked on both sides by Idongesit Essien, the Publicity Secretary of Ibom Innovation Network and marketing communications expert, Edidiong Ekpe the CEO of Tedikom Wirelss, Amanda Etuk, chair persons Akwa Ibom tech week, Francis Onuk, virtual communicator stated that Akwa Ibom currently rivals Lagos, positioning it as a key player in Africa's tech scene.

In a statement signed by Essien, "Akwa Ibom State has emerged as a hub for tech enthusiasts and professionals, with a developer ecosystem growing at an impressive 29.7% month-on-month since March 2023. This growth rate rivals that of Lagos, positioning Akwa Ibom as a key player in Africa’s tech landscape, advancing her claims of becoming “Africa’s New Tech Destination”

The experts said that 500 learners in Akwa Ibom have received Google licenses to access Coursera courses while others have been provided with jobs.

"We’re proud to announce that 500 learners in Akwa Ibom, both young and old have received Google licences to access Coursera courses. Over 350 of the learners have completed certifications in project management, cybersecurity, user experience design, and e-commerce. These skills empower our youth to contribute to the digital economy.
Through our member hubs and with support from the UNDP, we are to provide job placement for 1,500 youths."

On the hosting of Akwa Ibom tech week, he stated the aim of the organizers is to engage with industry leaders, connect with entrepreneurs and leverage on the opportunities for a better Akwa Ibom tech industry.

GROUP FAULTS COMMISSIONING OF 11 YEAR OLD NDDC BRIDGE IN AKWA IBOM

An advocacy media group, Eket Federal Constituency Media Forum, says listing and inaugurating a bridge executed and completed 11 years is a sign that the Niger Delta Development Commission is still unwilling to execute another major project in Akwa Ibom State anytime soon.

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the commission, held an elaborate event to inaugurate the Phase one of the 6km Iko-Atabrikang-Akata-Opulom-Ikot Inwang-Okoroutip-Iwochang road and NDDC 600m Bridge, with President Bola Tinubu represented by Senate President Godwill Akpabio.

But the Eket federal Constituency media group wondered why a project initiated in 2003 with phase one completed in 2013, was repainted in 2024 and commissioned amidst fanfare as a new project when the people were actually expecting to hear the progress of work on the second phase of the project.

In a release by the chairman, Comrade Itoro Etti, the media advocacy group insisted that the Agency in 2013, gave a cogent excuse for the delay in the commissioning of the project, which according to the agency was to complete the Phase two stage of the project.

"In several instances, the commission explained that the cause of the delay in commissioning the project is due to its intention to complete Phase two.

“By this, it implied that the completed portion cannot be commissioned for use until phase two is completed. The Vanguard newspaper correctly reported one of these excuses in 2015, two years later.

"The back and forth kept dragging on with a glimmer of hope as the second phase was eventually flagged off and work commenced, though very sluggishly in 2015. This level of development was widely reported in the media at various levels.

It maintained that in other parts of the Niger Delta, massive projects like schools, serious roads and bridges, power projects and healthcare facilities are executed and churned out by the NDDC yearly, while old projects are repainted and inaugurated in Akwa Ibom.

“This is irrespective of the fact that the State contributes the highest allocation to the intervention agency.

“Apart from the 600m bridge and the Hostels in UNIUYO teaching Hospital which where embarked upon by the NDDC in 2006, we challenge NDDC to show any major project it has initiated in Akwa Ibom in the past 9 years.

“As indigenes, affected by the environmental impact of oil exploration and exploitation in our backyard, we find it rather offensive that the commission is playing politics with developmental projects for the ‘goose that lays the golden egg’.

“To avoid another scenario where NDDC embarrasses itself by going to inaugurate an already existing project, we challenge the commission to publish a list of ongoing projects under its watch.”

"We fear that if took 10 years to initiate the project and complete a small part of it and another 11 years to finally commission the completed portion, it might as well take another 20 to 30 years to fully complete the project.

"When leaders reduce the plights, hardship, and daily sufferings of the people to mere chess, then such insensitivity must be rebuked and prevented.”

Afraid of the hide and seek game, the group therefore urge NDDC to come clean with the true projected timeline of the remaining part of the project and give a commitment to follow true.

The group advised the Agency to be sincere in projects allotted to the Federal Constituency, which it claims sits on top of 40% of oil and gas reserves of the Country and therefore deserves special treatment from NDDC and other federal agencies.

former National Legal Adviser of the People's Democratic Party, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN) has stated that the performance of Governor Umo Eno is good enough to earn him a second term.

Enoidem stated this when he played host to COOPA, an online publishers forum at his Shelter Afrique residence, Friday 17 May.

Speaking on the state of development in Akwa Ibom State, the former law teacher said that he is satisfied with the performance of the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno in less than a year since his assumption of office. He lauded the governor over the implementation of the ARISE Agenda, noting that the Governor's performance under one year has exceeded expectations.

He said, "The Governor's revamping of infrastructures in the education sector, investment in rural development and agriculture, Primary healthcare, road constructions and erosion control, payment of gratuity, bursary and pension, youth development, shelter for the aged and further investment in entrepreneurship is a testament to the visionary leadership of the governor which has endeared him to the people".

While acknowledging the rapid development of rural communities by the governor, he stressed that no government can completely develop the entire rural communities in 4 or 8 years.

"Umo Eno's government is a government for the people living in rural communities and this is a major shift in governance. The government has now taken a bottom to top approach. He has taken the government back to the people.

"The governor cannot develop the entire rural areas in 4 years or 8 years, but with his performance so far, even if he doesn't do anything again, he will be re-elected by Akwa Ibom people

The chairman of Maintain Peace Movement lampooned the Minister of FCT and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike over the political instability in Rivers State.

He noted that former Governor Wike's overbearing influence while serving as an influential PDP Governor made the then Cross River State Governor, Mr Ben Ayade and his Ebonyi State counter, Mr Dave Umahi left the party for the ruling APC.

He observed that the attitude of the former governor made it difficult for him to accept contrary opinions which he said is against any known democratic tenet.

"Rivers state has been emancipated from Wike slavery and high handedness. It is a contradiction, nevertheless, what is happening isn't a surprise as Mr Wike is tolerant of contrary views and may wish to lord it over the Governor Fubara.

" Former Governor Wike does not allow a contrary opinion and that isn't allowed in democracy.
Ben Ayade and Dave Umahi both left the PDP because of Wike’s overbearing influence he even castigated both Governors Umahi Ayade for taking PDP's vote to APC.

"Fubara worked under him and studied how he was able to use power, I am sure that Governor Fubara learnt a thing or two from him on what to do with power, but above all, Rivers State has been emancipated from Wike's chokehold."

On whether the Minister is still a member of PDP, Enoidem opined that it will be politically and morally wrong for the former Governor to claim that he is a member of PDP.

"A member of PDP cannot for any reason publicly endorse and work for a candidate of another political party as Wike did in 2023. A member of PDP cannot openly promise to support the presidential candidate of another political party in 2027 as Wike and his group have done.
This sort of attitude is against all known tenets of democracy and party politics.

"This is a clear case of anti party activities which by the express provisions of the PDP constitution deserve its outright expulsion from the party.

“What lesson in party politics and democracy is this group of persons passing on to the younger generations. Is it morally and politically correct and acceptable for them to claim to be in PDP while supporting the candidate of another political party. This is far from the truth. It would be honorable for them to leave the party

The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, has assured that Nigerians will soon enjoy a minimal and affordable price for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), otherwise known as cooking gas.

The Minister, who gave the assurance in Abak on Friday during interaction with leading newspaper publishers and media personalities in Akwa Ibom State, highlighted steps taken by his Ministry to end the high cost of cooking gas, as well as the availability of gas for power generating companies.

According to him, part of the plan by the Federal Government to end the high cost of cooking gas “is to increase in-country circulation of LPG. This can be achieved through the establishment of gas plants at various parts of the country, which is what the Ministry is currently working on and advocating for.”

Explaining further, Obongemem Ekpo said “The reason for the current price hike is due to scarcity as a result of exportation. The high demand for it has also made the local dealers take advantage of the situation and sell at a higher rate. We are working seriously to arrest this situation through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), which is saddled with the responsibility of gas price fixing.”

“Nigeria’s blending of LPG is 40:60 (propane and butane). But some companies produce and blend their gas to their specific blend like 50:50 or 30:70, which is not the blend that is needed here. So, recently, we convened a meeting with some IOCs urging them to stop selling their gas (LPG) outside the country. We have moved a step further to look for a bending plant that would blend it to our specification,” he explained.

He stressed that the Ministry is working round the clock to make the price of cooking gas minimal and affordable, saying “We have discussed how we can stop the export of gas by independent producers. When we stop the export of gas the price would come down.”

A 9 year old Akwa Ibom pupil of Mobil Pegasus Schools, Miss Mmekudmfon Wilfred Effiong has won the best prize for the National Creative Writing Competition.

Miss Effiong ,A primary 4 pupil of Mobil Pegasus Schools, Eket scored a massive 32.7 to beat others, including her first and second runners up competitors to come top as announced by the award organizers via online , 5th August 2023.

The competition organized by Raising Young Authors with sponsorship from NNPC,Total Energy ,SPDC and Agip Ventures, had participants cut across different schools from all States of the Federation.

The competition, according to its organizers is to encourage young and talented writers fulfil their dreams of becoming future and celebrated authors.

Speaking to this reporter, Miss Effiong expressed deep gratitude to God and her teachers, lauded her teachers for what she described as the 'wonderful academic drilling' given her.

Etteh Moves to establish Petroleum Training Institute Ibeno

Efforts to have a petroleum training institute in Akwa Ibom State may become a reality soon as the Member representing Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency, Rep Okpolupm Etteh has had a bill for the establishment of a Petroleum Training Institute,Ibeno passed its first reading.

The bill titled : " Petroleum Training Institute Ibeno Akwa Ibom State (Establishment) Bill 2023 (HB 362)" had its first reading by the clerk of the House Of Representatives on the 27th July 2023 at the green chamber of the National Assembly.

The bill is the lawmaker's second since his inauguration and it seeks to establish an institution for the training of Nigerians in Petroleum related courses in the Federal constituency, reputed to be Nigeria's number one oil and gas hub.

According to the lawmaker: "The bill is timely as Nigeria is in urgent need of experts and skilled professionals to drive the privatisation of the Oil and Gas industry. This will also enable Nigeria to produce the workforce needed to produce its own petroleum products and also ensure the operability of the Refineries in Nigeria", he said.

It could be recall that the lawmaker in less than 2 months since inauguration have had two people oriented motions and two bills to his credit.

A bill seeking to establish a Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eket, Akwa Ibom State has passed its first reading in the House Of Representatives.

The bill sponsored by Rt Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, Member representing Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency and read by the clerk, House Of Representatives on Thursday, 27th July, 2023 with title: "Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery Eket Akwa Ibom State (Establishment) Bill 2023 (HB 363)".

The bill seeks to establish a Federal educational institution aimed at training nurses and midwives in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

In a chart with newsmen,the bill sponsor, Rep Etteh noted that the difficulty face by candidates wishing to study nursing and midwifery necessitated the sponsorship of the bill, adding that with the establishment of the institution, it will enable candidates achieve their career goals and contribute greatly to more research in the medical field while reducing brain drains.

“I’m believing God that the bill will pass through the second and third reading at the green chambers

"With the massive brain drain of health workers in the country, there is need for the Federal Government to breach the gap by establishing more health related institutions for training of potential nurses and midwives while also creating enabling environment with adequate infrastructures and incentives to ensure that Nigeria is not at the losing end at the end of the day," he said.

Flood Disaster: Etteh intervenes on Ikot Ebiere, Ikot Ndua Iman flood crisis

A member,House of Reps, Rt Hon. Okpolupm Etteh has called on the Federal Government to urgently attend to the flood currently ravaging Ikot Ebiere and Ikot Ndua Iman communities in ONNA LGA, Akwa Ibom State.

Rep Etteh who represents Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency made the call on thursday, 27th July while presenting a motion titled: "MOTION ON THE ONGOING FLOOD RAVAGING IN IKOT EBIERE AND IKOT NDUA IMAN COMMUNITIES IN ONNA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF AKWA IBOM STATE" at plenary.

He said :

"Further notes that no community in ONNA Local Government Area was mentioned in the flood warning as announced by the Federal Ministry of Environment;

"Alarmed that no fewer than 200 houses, numerous farm lands and livestock
in Ikot Ebiere and Ikot Ndua Iman Communities which are in ONNA LOcal
Government Area were submerged by flood on the 24 of July, 2023.

"Further alarmed that no fewer than three schools in the communities have been closed due to the occasion of floods in the community.

"Concerned that inhabitants of the flooded communities are presently
internally displaced, having been dislodged from their homes by the flood and
are seeking food and shelter in neighboring communities.

"Worried that if the flood is not controlled but persists, more and more
communities in the Local Government and the Federal Constituency will be
affected."

The Rep Member urged the FG to mandate the Federal Ministry Of Environment, Ministry Of Niger Delta, The Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC) to as a matter of urgency wade into the situation.

"Urge the Federal Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the NDDC and all other relevant agencies, to immediately wade into the situation in Ikot Ebiere and Ikot Ndua Iman Communities with a view to controlling the flood in the Communities and to map out preventive measures against any immediate future occurrence of flood
in the affected areas.

"Urge the National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant
agencies to immediately setup make shift shelters and provide
remedial aid to the affected inhabitants and occupants in the affected
communities.

"Mandate the Committee on Disaster preparedness (when constituted)
to ensure implementation."

The motion moved by Hon. Etteh was seconded by Hon. Mohammed Muktar and was voted for, adopted and sent to the relevant committee pending when constituted.

Recollect that on the 24th of July, houses, farmlands and livestocks were submerged by flood in Ikot Ebiere and Ikot Ndua Iman in ONNA ,while three schools in both communities have temporarily been shutdown as a result of the incident.

The joy of many nursing mothers at St. Luke's Hospital, Anua, Uyo on Saturday, July 22 2023, knew no limits when the Wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno paid an unscheduled visit to the health facility to share in the joy of mothers of new born babies.

Pastor Eno, who was received on arrival by the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Njoku Isaac and Matron Eno - Eno Effiong, was ushered to the post delivery wards of the healthcare facility where she reached out to nursing mothers and their babies with financial support and gifts.

The Governor’s wife who visited the hospital in company of top women government officials, congratulated the new mothers who were visibly elated to see her.

In her words at the hospital, Pastor Eno said, she decided to make her first visit to the hospital to see and appraise things for herself, saying, “she was quite impressed by the level of professionalism exhibited by the medical personnel to the well-being of mothers and infants.”

In her compassionate motherly disposition, the First Lady took out time to converse with various nursing mothers, offsetted the bills of some nursing mothers who were unable to be discharged due to accumulated bills and also offered cash and gift items to the Twenty-one (21) nursing mothers and three (3) expectant mothers who were at the ward at the time of the visit.

Pastor Patience Eno who said she was impressed with the clean and serene ambience of the facility, also applauded the doctors and other health- care workers to continue in their good work, However advising them not to keep patients longer than necessary in order not to increase their bills.

Responding on behalf of the Administrator of the Hospital and the entire staff, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Njoku Isaac, thanked the Governor's Wife for making out time from her very busy schedule to visit and donate to the nursing mothers.

He extended his appreciation to the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for his people-centric leadership and prayed God to bless and guide him throughout his stay in office.

For the visibly elated nursing mothers, Mrs. Ofonime Effiong Udo, a mother of twins from Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, who responded to the benevolence of Pastor Patience Eno on behalf of all nursing mothers, thanked the Governor's wife for her visit and described it as a rare show of love. She prayed for God's blessings on the First Lady and family.

Another mother Mrs Emem Emmanuel who was moved to tears, poured encomiums on the First Lady for offsetting her bill. Having stayed in the hospital for 3weeks, she said her situation was hopeless and prayed God to bless Pastor Patience Eno for her kind gestures.

A motion seeking for the restoration of street lights across Abuja Metropolis has been presented to the House of Representatives at plenary by Rep Okpolupm Etteh.

The Rep member presented the motion today, 13th July during the plenary at the green chamber of the national assembly, noting that the constant darkness on major roads and streets of the FCT creates room for criminally minded individuals to perpetuate crime, touting and the intimidation of innocent law abiding Nigerians.

The lawmaker who represents Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency at the National Assembly observed that most states do not have huge yearly budgetary allocations like the FCT do maintain constant power supply on various State capitals.

The lawmaker therefore urged the the Federal Capital Territory Administration to as a matter of urgency restore the street Lights in
Abuja Metropolis and ensure maintenance as the Federal Capital and Administrative Headquarters of Nigeria while Mandating the Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) when constituted to ensure implementation.

The motion moved by Rt Hon. Okpolupm Etteh was seconded by Hon. Boniface Merengue, while Hon. Blessing Onuh proposed an amendment to add a prayer three to the motion to make provisions for the replacement of the stolen manhole from highways in the Federal Capital Territory.
The motion was therefore voted for, adopted on and referred to the House Committee On Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Federal Character as well as that on Legislative compliance when constituted.

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State; the Temple Gate Polytechnic (formally known as School of Management and Technology) , Aba, Abia State and the Examination Certification Division of the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education have faulted claims by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the February 25th general elections, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, that the Member-Elect for Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), presented forged certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for screening prior to the elections.

The institutions’ representatives who faulted the forgery saga while testifying as witnesses before the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo, on Wednesday, said Rt. Hon. Etteh’s certificates are all genuine, as they were obtained from the institutions after compliance and fulfillment of all the necessary conditions for such to be issued.

Recall Hon. Eyiboh had approached the Tribunal to declare him winner of the February 25th election on the grounds that Hon. Etteh of the PDP was not qualified to have contested the said election, having presented what he termed forged certificates with inconsistency in his name as documents submitted to INEC.

The petitioner also asked the Tribunal to declare him winner considering that he scored the majority of lawful votes cast at the Polling Units and that majority of his votes obtained from the Units and the results as announced and pasted at the Units were unlawfully excluded at the Collation Centres to the advantage of Rt. Hon. Etteh.

At the resumed hearing of the case, Counsel to Rt. Hon. Etteh, Barrister Ekpenyong Ntekim, argued that his client obtained all his certificates from recognized institutions in Nigeria and therefore, there was no basis for the any forgery as was alleged by the petitioner.

Counsel further argued that there was no inconsistency in the name of Rt. Hon. Etteh, as all documents bearing his name have not shown any contradiction with his age declaration certificate, which he tendered to INEC during his screening.

Testifying as the first witness before the tribunal, the Registrar of Temple Gate Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State, the institution where the first respondent, Rt. Hon Etteh told the Tribunal that he obtained his National Diploma Certificate from, Mr. Goodluck Osemene, tendered evidence of Admission Letter, Attestation Letter, Results, Application Letter for the collection of result, Application for the forwarding of Transcript to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, as representing the true certifications of the defendant, arguing that the documents originated from the institution.

According to the witness, the institution which started as School of Management and Technology, Aba, Abia State, before it was changed to Temple Gate Polytechnic in 2009, is a recognized Tertiary Institution accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in October, 2010, and therefore, all documents bearing the name of the Institution that were presented before the Tribunal are valid.

Also testifying as second witness, the Deputy Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Mr. Alexander Anukam, who is in charge of Examination and Records, presented before the Tribunal, Letter of Admission for Higher National Diploma (HND) programme, which the Institution offered to Rt. Hon. Etteh on completion of his Pre-HND in the same school and other documents from the Polytechnic as evidence that the Member-Elect legally acquired his certificates.

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has expressed disappointment over Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s unbridled, unpatriotic and immature remarks when he referred to the State Governor as “a boy”.

Emmanuel made the reaction at Government House, Uyo on Monday evening, on the sideline of the inauguration of newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, Chairmen and Members of Boards and Commissions, as well as a Transition Committee to ensure the smooth transition of power to the next administration.

The Governor said it was unfortunate that Tinubu, who was granted State-owned facilities such as the airport, security, stadium, and a good atmosphere to sell his manifesto, ended up coming to insult the integrity of over 7.9 million Akwa Ibom people.

Governor Emmanuel said despite being insulted by the one-time Lagos State Governor, he would prefer to allow peace to reign by ignoring him and focusing on helping install good governance to rescue Nigerians from their present woes.

“What makes him think he will govern Nigeria? If I reply to him now, people will call me and say, Haba Oga you are not like that. But I will reply to him one day. There is nothing like ‘Emilokan’ (it is my turn) here, Nigeria is in God’s hands.”

The Governor who is the Chairman of the PDP presidential campaign stated, “I also go to other states, and if you watch our campaigns, my principal (Atiku Abubakar) has never spoken about any Governor, he has never spoken openly about Asiwaju before.”

The Akwa Ibom Governor however assured Nigerians that Tinubu has nothing to bring to the table for Nigerians, hence his decision to abuse people and rain insults during his presidential campaigns.

One of the most anticipated boat regatta in the south-south part of Nigeria, the Upenekang boat regatta festival came to a fruitful end amidst joy, pomp, excitement by avid followers, tourists and lovers of the festival.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has shut down operation in ExxonMobil deep water, cutting shut 70% of oil production in protest of unresolved lingering issues between employees and management of the company.

They alleged that the company under the current leadership is on a mission to decimate their workforce with the current management style, accusing Lead Country Manager, Mr. Richard Laing, for midwifing sustained anti-people regime in the history of ExxonMobil Nigeria.

The Union listed some of the unresolved lingering issues to include inhumane primary healthcare deliverables for workers and retirees, militarization of work environment, increased workload and unprecedented attrition, poor welfare packages, severed public, government and community relations, non implementation of Legacy Employee Savings Plans (LESP), among other issues.

Speaking with this reporter, the Chairman of PENGASSAN, ExxonMobil Branch, Comrade Kings Udoidua said, “The Company under the current leadership seems to be on a mission to decimate the workforce with their current management style. The entrenchment of this situation by the company has left Nigerian employees psychologically stupefied, emotionally overwhelmed and financially hemorrhaging and work-life imbalanced with its attendant burnout.

“Mediation efforts via the historic platform of Industrial and Employee Relations (IR) have yielded little or no results but have rather hardened the Company and its leadership against its own employees such that anything that could bring relief to workers is considered anathema.

Udoidua further stated that militarization of company facilities is very alarming as there are more military, police, civil defense and PGL personnel manning Qua Iboe Terminal (QIT) gates than there are Operators in the plant.

“Not one personnel have employee ID card and what they call access card still requires email approval for us to access company facilities outside our primary work locations. As employees of ExxonMobil, it is easier to access Chevron, Shell, Total, etc, than be allowed to access facilities of a Company you work for,” Udoidua added.

He said this oppressive and humiliating treatment has untold psychological effects on employees and has to stop, therefore demands for provision of Company Issued Identification Card and humane security processing into Company offices anywhere in Nigeria.

Investigation confirmed that headcount reduction in ExxonMobil has continued unabated as the level of attrition is unprecedented, saying that Contracts hires are given subliminal threats against Unionization while Labour Relations issues are treated with levity with unwarranted grandstanding by Company Leadership.

How 'Military Officer' Murdered My Husband - Wife

More facts have emerged into how a military officer, Corporal Stephen Iweh, a native of Egbu village in Owerri Local Government Area of Imo State, allegedly murdered an Akwa Ibom-born businessman, Enobong Jimmy who gave him a lift from Trailer Park in Onne, Rivers State to Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom, where his body was later found in a bush.

The revelation is from the wife of the deceased, Mrs Arit Christopher Enobong, a trader, while giving her evidence as the first prosecution witness in the matter, which is now before an Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo.

She told the Court that her 42 year-old husband, a native of Ikot Akpan Edia in Ikot Abasi, working with a clearing and forwarding company in Port Harcourt left home, Sunday, 23rd May, 2021, at about 8am informing her of going to his office.

Mrs Enobong said her husband also informed her that he would be thereafter go to his village to visit his sister.

"After church service, I missed his calls on my phone between 1pm and 2pm. I tried to reach him by calling his phone, it rang but no response. And later, the phone was switched off. The next day, Monday, 24th May, 2021, in a bid to know the whereabouts of my husband, I called his friends in the office. Their responses were, they did not hear from my husband. At this point, I pleaded with them to escort me to search for my husband which they complied. We kept asking for any checkpoint we came across but no response on the whereabouts of my husband." She said.

Continuing, Mrs Enobong told the Court that while they were searching for her husband on their way from Port Harcourt to Akwa Ibom, her sister in-law, one Aunty Mercy who was in the village in Ikot Abasi, was equally searching for him.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has denied rumor of using his office to prevent former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar from consulting Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Governor made this known through his information Commissioner, Mr Ini Ememobong in a press release dated 15th May 2022.

"The news item with the above heading surfaced on the media space, alleging that Governor Udom Emmanuel barred Alh. Atiku Abubakar from meeting with delegates. It also went on to make a lot of spurious allegations, laced with foul and profane language. Nothing can be farther from the truth as this. The said news is totally incompatible with the known accommodating disposition of the Governor", the release said.

In the last six months, the Residents of Use Ntuen, Okobo Ibiono and Ikot Ambang in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Itu and Ikot Ekpene local Government Area’s of Akwa Ibom State and part of Uyo have lived in palpable fear of a dreaded serial killer and armed robber, one Malachi Friday Uwem ‘m’, 24yrs old. The said Malachi and gang have killed over 15 persons and has left some of his victims permanently maimed, some presently in hospitals, while others are counting their losses from his barbaric robbery acts, which has led to the closing of many businesses, especially POS, in these places.

It would be recalled that on 20/2/22, the notorious armed Robber and serial killer robbed and shot one Miss Lovina Eze Chiwendu, a Youth Corper at Ikot Ambang and made away with her iphone, ATM card and the sum of Seven Thousand Naira, she died last week at Enugu Teaching Hospital.
Also, on 21/2/22, the suspect robbed and killed a lady teacher returning from school at Okobo Ibiono who had stopped over at a POS shop, this resulted to a protest by Youths of the area who blocked the Uyo/Ikot Ekpene Expressway.
Furthermore, on 5/3/22, one Mrs Idongesit Damson was shot and killed in her house at Okobo Ibiono by the suspect, he also shot one Wisdom, whice also led to a protest and blockage of the Uyo/Ikot Ekpene Expressway.
Several POS shops and filling stations have been robbed by the suspect and his gang at Okobo Ibiono, Itak axis and Uyo. Only recently, on Monday, 25th April, he shot and killed two young men on the grounds that the village couldn’t meet his demand of twenty (20m) Million Naira but were only able to raise five million (5m) Naira.
On assumption of duty as the 30th Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, CP Andrew Amiengheme, Psc+, fdc, vowed to spare no resources in ridding the state of criminal elements like Malachi and their gang members. The former Honorary Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties appreciated the visionary leadership of the State Governor which he said has helped stabilized the State politically and economically, adding that his support to the party over the years in the State and country has seen it grown in leap and bound.

The Council Chairman of Eket Local Government, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey has once again affirmed his stance on the ban on scrap metal scavengers in the Local Government.

He reiterated this during a meeting with the Leaders of the Hausa Community residing in Eket Local Government in his office recently.

Speaking, the Council Boss clearly stated that the Local Government will not go back on the directives from the State Government which placed a ban on the scrap metal business in the State as it has become a menace which has already claimed one life in the area and further added that the demolition of the scavengers' hideout some weeks ago will be extended to other places in Eket where such business is being carried out.

In another directive, the Council Chairman ordered the Hausa residents to evacuate their scrap metal shop situated at the entrance to the Local Government within seven days to avoid demolition noting that the decision was necessary to avert future crisis in the Local Government.

In their separate response, the Secretary of Arewa Community in Eket, Abraham Ajaga thanked the Council Chairman for making the meeting possible and equally gave a nod of approval for the ban on scrap metal business stating that the swift response made by the Chairman to address the situation makes him a good leader and also promised to abide by the directives given by the Council Boss, while the Chairman of Scrap Dealers in the State Comrade Ejimadu also commended the Chairman for meeting with the Hausa Community in the Local Government.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has condole with the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

The Governor took to his Facebook account to write, “I condole with our former president, His Excellency, Dr Goodluck Jonathan on the unfortunate accident that claimed the lives of two of his aides.

May God console Your Excellency and the families of the departed. And may our Good Lord keep you safe and hide you in the shadow of His wings.”

It could be recalled that yesterday, The former Bayelsa State Governor was involved in a fatal car crash which claimed the lives of two of his aides.

Uduak Frank Akpan opens defense, denies ever knowing Iniubong Umoren, University of Uyo graduate who he allegedly raped and murdered in his residence in Uruan while on a job hunt.

"My Lord, I do not know Miss Iniubong Umoren. I only came to know that name when I was served with the proceedings of this trial at the Prison. For the second charge of rape, my Lord, I do not know anything about rape. I have never raped anybody."

As the battle for the top job in the Hilltop Mansion gathers momentum, the Councillors and Supervisors in Uyo Local Government Area have reportedly abandoned Rt. Hon. Michael Enyong, popularly called BabaNtan to his fate in the governorship race come 2023.

Rt Hon. Enyong, who is in the governorship race, we understand hails from Ward 10 in Uyo LGA, and he is currently representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

BabaNtan had reportedly called for a meeting with the councillors and supervisors in Uyo at his Ewet Housing Estate residence but the invitees boycotted the meeting.

The reason, according to a reliable source close to the legislators, who spoke on condition of anonymity is that they do not want to be associated with his fetish and diabolical politics.

Recall that recently, the Executive and Legislative arms of Uyo LGA had vowed to support the aspiration of the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno for the Hilltop job.

NIGERIA'S HOPE OF RESTORATION LIES WITH PDP - UDOM EMMANUEL

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), holds the key to the what he described as "restoration of Nigeria" which he says will be a redemption of the country from backwardness in various sectors of the economy.

Emmanuel who spoke in Uyo, Wednesday February 2, 2022, while addressing the stakeholders of PDP during the New year Get-together of the Party, decried the level of deterioration of the country since 2015, holding that Nigerians are waiting for PDP to emerge in 2023 and restore the lost hope of citizens and revive ailing sectors of the country's economy.

"God has given us in PDP the responsibility to restore Nigeria back to its full glory. We have to restore the economy of the country, we have to restore security, peace and unity in Nigeria and bring prosperity to the people. PDP is ready and will restore Nigeria", he said.

The governor who reiterated his total commitment to developing Akwa Ibom State in line with completion Agenda, hinted that he will do everything possible to complete every ongoing project undertaken by his administration and ensure he leaves the state better than he met it.

In his words, "my manifestos came under the umbrella of the party and as a faithful party man, I assure the party today that all on going projects will be completed before I leave office. Let it be known that our party stands for excellence."

"Today if you talk about PDP in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State will be considered as one of the strongest", Governor Emmanuel said

On his part, the state Chairman of PDP, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, who conveyed the message of the party to the governor, thanked him for making the party proud in his leadership strides, adding that the party is relentless in supporting his vision to grow the state, while informing the governor of the gains the party has recorder with him as leader of the party.

"We have stabilised the party, sustained the team spirit and party unity through constructive engagements, reconciliation and regular exchange of ideas on a wide range of issue", Akpan pointed.

Others who spoke separately including the National Ex Officio of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, immediate past National Legal Adviser of the party, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem and the chairman of all chapter chairmen in the state, Hon Elder Eddy Etangnkanga, agreed that PDP has fared well with Governor Emmanuel at the helm of leadership in the state, declaring their support to Emmanuel's Completion and Succession Agenda.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo, Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, as well stakeholders across all levels of the party.
