Yuletide : Governor Emmanuel Fetes Ibeno Youths ... As Etteh Calls for Stronger Synergy, Support for Akwa Ibom Governor Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, Friday celebrated the end of year 2021 get together with youths of Ibeno. The ceremony, a yearly activity took place at Upenekang, Ibeno witnessed a massive turn out of supporters of the Governor who all came to share in the joy of the season. The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, thanked the youths for the unprecedented support given his government and for standing by his government as well as making him proud through their peaceful conducts. He assured them of ensuring that the government under his leadership will continually accommodate them and their wants as the future leaders. Etteh who doubles as the Chapter coordinator of MPM in Ibeno urged the youths to adopt the peaceful approach of the State Chief Executive in all they do, stressing that society only prosper when there's peace, love and harmony. He further called on the people of Ibeno to reciprocate the Governor's benevolence with support for both his completion agenda and his Succession plan; this he said will help consolidate on the various gains attributed to the Udom Emmanuel's led administration. "Akwa Ibom is blessed with a man like Mr Udom Emmanuel in a period such as this with different signature projects across the State; this is only possible because of the man at the helm of affairs,"he noted. PDP Will Rescue Nigeria - Akwa Ibom Special Duties Commissioner ... Appeal for Support for Governor Udom Emmanuel's Completion Agenda Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Okpolupm Etteh has stated that the recently concluded National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party will in 2023 help usher in a government that will rescue the nation and Nigerians from the untold hardship witnessed across the country. Etteh Stated this shortly after casting his votes for his preferred candidates at the party's national convention in Abuja. He pointed out that the Government under the leadership of the PDP between 1999 - 2015 saw Nigeria grew economically, creating jobs and prosperity for the people and helped Nigeria out of its humongous debt while improving on its electoral processes and reforms, the gains he said has not been consolidated by the current Government. The former State House Member added that under the Peoples Democratic Party leadership, Nigeria rose exponentially and became the third fastest growing economy in the world, sadly according to him, today Nigeria is World's poverty headquarters, a situation he said calls for deep sober reflection. On Governor Udom Emmanuel's industrialization agenda and achievements for Akwa Ibom State, he urged the people of the State to support the visions and drive of the Governor in his avowed commitment to create prosperity for the people. "Governor Udom Emmanuel has in 6 years turned a once pedestrian State to an investment destination in the country and must be supported to completely transform the State and place the State in the world map," Etteh said. He also appreciated the Governor for building the State of the Art 21 Storey building in the State, saying that with the ongoing massive investment in infrastructural development, the State is set to witness greater opportunities for investors.

CHIEF NDUESE ESSIEN EMPOWERS 25 WOMEN WITH BUSINESS GRANTS By Assam Abia Former Minister of the Federal Republican of Nigeria, Chief Nduese Essien, yesterday Wednesday October 6, 2021, empowered 25 women with business grants of Two Hundred Thousand Naria (#200,000) each. In a brief ceremony conducted at Trinity Hall along Afaha Atai Road in Eket, Chief Essien, a two term House of Representatives member said the money was given to the beneficiaries for expansion and consolidation of their businesses and as a way of discouraging women from full time political scavenging. "There is nothing wrong in women involvement in politics but something is absolutely wrong if some women take to political scavenging as a means of livelihood. I want to discourage such attitude", Chief Essien said. He said that the financial assistance was not a political money as may be misconstrued by many but his own way of assisting government stimulate entrepreneurship and grow the economy for individual sustainability. "I'm not seeking for any political elective position. I made it known in 2014 at Eket Stadium during my presentation of Udom Emmanuel to the people of Eket, that I will never seek for any elective position again, so, do not think that this is political patronage, you should make good use of the grant by ensuring that it grows your business", he advised. Speaking further, he said that the beneficiaries were carefully selected across the 14 Wards of Eket Local Government Area through a diligent process that ensured that only those currently doing petty businesses and needed expansion were enlisted. The process, he said, did not consider political office holders, those who have just been empowered by government, those who are well established and those who have benefited recently from one form of empowerment program or another. An independent Committee will be put in place to monitor the business growth of beneficiaries. "After two months, the inspection team will assess how far you have gone with your business and if you are growing, in six months time, we will add more money for you to consolidate on your achievements", Chief Essien assured, while praying that they should succeed in their various line of businesses "This grant is not for your children's school fees or for cosmetics and other frivolous things but for investment in your petty businesses. Some people started with smaller amount but today they are millionaires, you have to prove that our women can also be millionaires through entrepreneurship", he said. Pastor Ita Umoh Udo, Chief Udo Isong, Chief Jack Udota, Obongawan Comfort Enodien and Group Capt. Eno (Rtd) all admonished the beneficiaries on how best to succeed with the financial grant while commending Chief Nduese Essien for such an innovative gesture. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, lady Christiana Tom thanked their benefactor for his magnanimity and assured him that they will "grow the seed that has been given them into a big tree"

Ex-Federal Minister calls for caution The breaking news of the FG's approval of 14 days paternity leave for male civil servants has attracted mixed reactions from Nigerian citizens yesterday. According to Mrs Folashade Esan, Head of Fed civil service, the gesture is to allow fathers time to bond with the new babies (adopted or natural). This "new normal" as the case may be,could be described as strategic for the social re-engineering strata of the society. However, in his own reaction,a former minister of Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, expressed reservation for the new FG gesture describing it as another way of excessive holidays for the working-class people. Chief Essien, a former House of Representative Member and a well-known labour friendly and civil society supporter,added that the country enjoys too much holidays at expense of hard work. For example, if a particular civil servant in question is married to 4 wives(minimum allowed by islam),and fortunately, his wives delivered same year,that means that ( Fed. civil servant) would be entitled to 8 weeks of holidays in the year. Said he:" There is no country in the world with this level of public work- free- days that can give adequate productivity ratio. Even the state of California,UK and Australia that enjoy paternity leave can't joke with the surplus work- free days and remain same at the economic turnover scale.

Esen Asuquo Akpanibiok, a former councilor and council secretary as the Political leader of the ward. Rising from a meeting held at the ward Chairman's house in Ikot Okwot Ubium and presided over by the ward Chairman, Hon Elder Imaikpo James, stakeholders and ward Exco members in the ward unanimously appended their signatures in approval of the adoption. Speaking at the event, the ward Chairman, Elder Imaikop James said that all the controversies that had earlier surrounded the ward leadership has been resolved. He said that the rotational policy of ward leadership saw Ikot Okwot Ubium held the position and at the expiration of its tenure, it was Ikot Esen turn to present itself for the leadership position of the ward. He further stated that with the emergence and adoption of Hon. EFCC official, Nwandu Ukoha verbally abused judge for granting my client's bail - Ewa Okpo The last may not have been heard about the illegal arrest and detention of a University of Calabar undergraduate, Mr. Noble Tamunoateli Dainge, arrested a week and some days ago by officials of the EFCC Zonal Office, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. According to a legal practitioner, Barr. Ewa Okpo, in a press conference on 3rd July, he said that his client, Mr. Noble Tamunoateli, a student of the University of Calabar, was arrested by the EFCC on allegations of committing fraud popularly referred to as 'Yahoo-yahoo', but that despite forcefully getting the suspect bank statements against court order and not finding any incriminating evidence against his client, the agency still keep and torture his client so as to coerce him into making statements under duress and in the absence of any legal representative. According to the legal luminary, Tamunoateli had on the 22nd June gone to his bank (UBA) to make enquiry about his inability to make withdrawals, an effort the bank couldn't solve on the fateful day. Tamunoateli was asked by the bank officials to come back the following day for rectification of the issues, Tamunoateli without any premonition or fear, went back the following day and was told that his account was freeze and on the order of the Economic financial crimes commission, an agency of the Federal Government mandated to fight financial crime related cases. The Nigerian Police Force as narrated were invited and Tamunoateli was arrested and handed over by the police force to the anti-graft agency and was quickly moved to its Uyo Zonal Office. According to reports, Tamunoateli without his solicitor was taken forcefully to his bank and made to obtained his bank statement under duress by the agency. But despite having gone through Tamuno's account without any incriminating evidence, the officials of the agency refused to either charge him to court nor release him. Okpo, himself, a human's right activist said that having been briefed about the suspect predicament had approached the agency for a first hand brief on the matter by anti-graft, an effort he said was frustrated by officials of the agency. According to the Uyo Popular human rights activist, the bailiff who was mandated to serve the EFFC with the court order was physically abused, tortured with his clothes torn apart by the EFCC's lawyer, one Nwandu Ukoha Kalu Esq despite the bailiff wearing a JUSUN inscripted dress. Okpo Stated that despite court order which mandated the EFCC to release Noble Tamunoateli Dainge, officials of the Uyo Zonal Office have refused to release his client, rather resorting to verbal abuse of the Justice Ntong Ntong led high court. Okpo said that he was worried about how officials of the anti-graft agencies will arrest and detain suspects without any recourse to law, saying that its frequent abused of power should be discouraged completely to avoid anarchy. He further appealed to Akwa Ibom State house of Assembly, civil right organization and other agencies of Government to call on EFCC to respect court orders and the fundamental human rights of Nigeria citizens. Attempt at reaching out to officials of EFCC proved abortive. TYRANNY: EFCC DISREGARDS COURT ORDER, ASSAULTS LAWYER * Ubon Marcus | July 2, 2021. The Uyo Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Friday July 2, 2021 allegedly assaulted a Legal Practitioner and Human Rights Advocate, Barr. Ewa Okpo aka street lawyer at their head office located along Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo. According to the street lawyer, a Bailiff from the State High Court, Itu division, Usen Ntem, was at the EFCC office to serve an Ex Parte Motion of the Court granting bail to his client on grounds of Fundamental Human Rights. At the EFCC office, the Court Bailiff was allegedly prevented from exercising his official duties therefore the legal practitioner as an interested party in the case had to go there personally to prevail upon them to honour the order of court and allow the rule of law prevail. “I have been to that EFCC office over 10 times on this matter and have shown them professional courtesy so far even when my client has been detained for about 10 days as against the statutory 48 hours that the law permits. Nwandu Kalu, Esq, of the EFCC Legal Department was the one who ordered that I be thrown out of the premises. Messers Taiwo and Gaius witnessed it,” Barr. Ewa said. “I had to approach the court as a last resort of ensuring that my client gets fair treatment under the law and thankfully Hon. Justice Ntong F. Ntong of the High Court of Akwa Ibom State, Itu Judicial Division granted our plea”, he further stated. “The bailiff who went to serve them the order of court was prevented from doing so; I had to intervene by going there to prevail on them to honour the court order; I was physically assaulted, harassed, pushed out of the office alongside the Bailiff and terribly embarrassed”, the lawyer lamented. The Uyo based legal practitioner cum human rights advocate expressed worry over the fate that befalls ordinary citizens in the hands of the EFCC nowadays if a legal practitioner of his standing could be so disdainfully treated by the anti-corruption firm stating that the presupposition of the law that an accused person is deemed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law still holds water in Nigeria and law enforcement agencies are under obligation to abide by it. He called on them to exhibit professional courtesy to legal practitioners and members of other professions in the discharge of their duties and explained that he had notified the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association of his ordeal and intends to seek redress in court. Two brief events which took place at the ward headquarters, were witnessed by royal fathers, party stakeholders, women, youths and elder statesmen drawn from across Odoro Ukwok and Usuk Ukwok (Wards 9 and 10. ) In her respective opening remarks, the Honourable Commissioner charged the attendees on the need to be steadfast in their support for Governor Udom Emmanuel and noted that the Governor has done well for the people of Ini in particular and Akwa Ibom State at large. She appreciated the Party Executive members, stakeholders and the entire people of the two wards for maintaining peace and promoting unity in the area. While briefing party faithfuls of the need for a befitting office in the 11 wards of Ini LGA, she said, "having a Ward office is as important as having an identity as a party. Governor Udom Emmanuel has done well . As a Commissioner on the platform of the PDP, it will be unfair to overlook the plight of Ward Chairmen and Party Executives in the area as it pertains to their working conditions. I have provided by God’s grace an office at the Chapter level for years now, Ikpe Ward 2, Itu Mbonuso Ward 3, and have also financially mobilized all the Ward Chairmen in Ini LGA to set up offices in their different Wards". On the need to embrace unity, the agric boss while redeeming her pledge to the women of Ukwok ward 10 on the occasion of a community development project fund raiser, encouraged them to be good examples to their children and advised them to shun violence and acts of disunity, noting that development cannot thrive where there is violence. Dr. Edet used the opportunity to advise stakeholders on the need to take agriculture as a business and make good use of the planting season that beckons. She distributed maize, okra, and onion seeds to farmers and stakeholders of the two wards. Graphic images and Videos : Governor's aide Raises Alarm over Herdsmen attack in Akwa Ibom An aide to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ime Uwah has raised an alarm over the invasion of his land measuring 5 hectares by fulani herdsmen, According to the Governor's aide who addressed the public through his Facebook official handle, he alleged that the herdsmen had earlier in July, 2020 invaded his Farmland along airport road, destroyed what he described as 'a large portion of its vegetable and crop plantation', attacked the farm manager and inflicted on him serious wounds resulting from matchete cut, a case he said was reported to the security agency but no action was taken. Again, according to him, they managed to stop the herdsmen from burning down the plantation, yesterday, February 12. "Just this Evening we just managed to stop a wild fire set by this same herdsmen from burning down the entire 5 hectares of our plantation. The video below shows the audacity these guys have, strolling with their cattles through an investment worth millions of Naira in a far down south-south region of the Country where its people depend highly on crop farming for food sufficiency, " he wrote. Recently, there has been spate of attacks on farmers and farmlands across states in the southern and Middle belt part of the country. A major testament to the wonders of the world was the first class State of the art intelligence isolation center constructed to handled Covid-19 cases in Akwa Ibom State. The building from start to finish was constructed under a record breaking 41 days, a feat major analyse have attributed to 'Miracle'. Akparawa Ephraim Inyangeyen brought to bear his expertise in execution of assigned duties. The Isolation Center, A 300 bed space medical center with a state of the art fully equipped with sophisticated and digital medical tools and approved by respective medical regulatory agencies has four(4) unique wards, with seventy-five (75) beds each. Samuel Udoh, from the party, with Immediate effect. Mr Udo was found to have indulged in anti-party activities, specifically contravening section 57(3) of the party’s constitution. In a communique issued on Thursday 21st of May 2020, it was disclosed that Mr Samuel Udo suspended three members of the Ikono Legislative Council on the floor of the house following, and acting on, the directives of Hon. Victor Udofia, the immediate past representative of Ikono State Constituency in the House of Assembly, who also happens to be his former boss. It noted that this action constituted an embarrassment to the ward and PDP, considering that Hon. Victor Udofia had defected to the APC towards the end of his tenure at the House of Assembly and has remained there till date. According to the letter, other actions leading up to his suspension included the fact that he conspired with the opposition party during the last election to cause the PDP some setbacks. And that after being cautioned for this ignoble conduct, Mr Udo still persisted with his unholy alliance with the opposition leading up to the inexplicable decision to illegitimately suspend bonafide and loyal members of the party without due process. Research institutions, experts, corporate organizations, etc. have been working day and night to ascertain which love song the virus would submit to, yet the World Health Organization (WHO) still keeps us in suspense, waiting eagerly, perhaps endlessly to know what our fate would be, and which vaccine should be adopted from the myriad available. In the midst of this, many great leaders have wept like babies as the pandemic has devastated almost what they had worked for over the years. Others act as a confused mother whose baby is convulsing for the first time: confused, fearful and tearful. And just a handful of them have stood their grounds to confront the enemy squarely. The last category of leaders have given hope to the people by stationing all the medical weaponry strategically to confront our common enemy. The results are monumental. What separates the last set from previous ones is their mindsets, and Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel falls into the last category. Even before the first case of coronavirus was recorded in the state, the governor went ahead of his peers to equip two isolation centers, in addition to the upgrade of medical facilities across the three senatorial districts of the state. His "proactiveness" in handling the pandemic in the state has made many to believe that he is a prophet: A man who sees tomorrow. How then will you explain to someone that a governor since assumption of office, almost 5 years ago prioritised in upgrading health Care facilities in the state, with state-of-the art medical equipment as if he saw the coming of coronavirus? How will you describe a man who on assumption of office also tilted our attention to the richness of Agro-economy by creating food banks for the future? This manifested in the establishment of Ibom Agricon Rice Mill at Ini LGA, Flour Mill at Onna, cassava processing Mills, cocoa, plaintain and tomato plantations across the state, to mention but a few. Today, his foresight has saved the state from hunger as almost everything we use are derived from the state. During the total lockdown in the state, palliative was provided by the state government to ease the effect of the decision on the citizens, and most of the items given were Akwa Ibom made. What a beautiful time to measure performance. Many are still asking, is Gov. Emmanuel also among the prophets? Your guess is as good as mine. Not quite long, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) commended Gov. Emmanuel on his expertise and activeness in contact tracing which has greatly helped to reduce the number of cases in the state. Recent reports have equally attested to the fact that Akwa Ibom is one of the few states that are front-runners in the recovery rates arising from COVID-19 pandemic. The latest is from The Emergency Digest report. The feat is not magical, it is a result of purposeful leadership, honesty in handling state affairs and accuracy in delivery of his campaign promises. Without mincing words, the management of covid-19 in Akwa Ibom is the best so far, as the governor meets with the covid-19 incident Management team on a daily basis to evaluate the situation and take informed decisions to safeguard the people. This, he does without playing to the gallery. He doesn't want his involvement to be blown beyond proportion like the tradition of many is. This is what one gets when the state's covid-19 response team is working in strict adherence to the NCDC procedures, as the body had been in the state for 2 weeks to give first-hand directive on how to conduct test for coronavirus and address other vital issues. It is not magic. The 300 bed isolation center at Ituk Mbang is near completion, and the State government has already taken delivery of 100 beds from an agency, while the state will provide the remaining 200. For record purpose, Gov. Emmanuel had seen the future before now, and at the mercy of exaggeration, coronavirus is surprised that Akwa Ibom had already prepared for its ill- triumphant entry into the state. The state can boast of well-equipped hospitals, isolation center with beds plus modern facilities, 19 ventilators, functional Intensive Care Unit, digitalised and functional situation room and call center manned by 50 medical experts, in addition to 407 medical doctors and 2000 nurses as foot-soldiers, readily available to defeat the enemy. No wonder the enemy is always defeated at sight in Akwa Ibom, to the amazement of sister states. As it stands now, the active covid-19 patients are all in good condition. This is not rocket science, but the product of excellent and transparent leadership. Nobody hides anything. Nobody plays politics with human life in Akwa Ibom. When it comes to naming patients at the isolation center, one must understand that there are ethics in every profession, and the confidentiality of the patients which is a serious ethical issue in the medical field, remains paramount. It must be respected by all means, except otherwise stated by the patients. However, this fight demands collaboration. No commander fights and wins alone. It is always the collaborative efforts of other soldiers that gives victory. Hence, everyone must join hands in this fight. Citizens' adherence to precautionary measures against coronavirus is paramount. As the state chief executive is at the Frontline, bombarding the enemy's camp from all angles, the citizens must obey his commands, for our collective safety and victory to be guaranteed.

Paul Umoh: Uyo Serial Blackmailer Nabbed A Blackmail kingpin operating in Uyo was this early morning of Monday rounded up alongside his gang members. Paul Umoh who uses his personal Facebook account for blackmail and extortion of money from victims had recently upgraded his game by acquiring a personal blog, 'Deaf Pen' which he has been using to perpetuate more of his nefarious activities with his gang members. One of the gang member, Mr Unwana Moses Ukpong, son of a former House Member from Ikot Ukpong in Eket Local Government Area was allegedly contracted by the said Paul alongside others to help expand their fast rising blackmailing business, until they were apprehended by members of the Nigeria Police Force following a petition by a Governors aide. Paul had few weeks ago used the said Facebook page to blackmail Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Sea port, Mr Akan Okon with an accusation of infidelity, an allegation set out to tarnish the image of the Commissioner. It should also be noted that the same Paul had severally used his Facebook page to blackmail the Governor of the State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and highly placed public officials. Nana Udom, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Multilateral and Donor Agencies recently became a victim of Paul's blackmailing brutality as he once again set out to completely destroy the image of the former banker. In a post that led him to the dungeon, he accused Mr Udom of having an affair with both married and unmarried women with promises of rewarding them with financial gains. In his post, he wrote, "Latest in the list of these perpetrators is another serial abominist who is a celebrated and decorated figure both in real life and on social media. His name is Ndianaabasi Nana. His heinous affairs are targeted at women both single (with the disguise of helping them out financially)and other married ladies. Verifiably from our eagle’s eye the list includes; Ifiok of House of Borah, Ndie Ekanem and Okaba Akwawo. Ndi Ekanem and Okaba Aquaowo are currently enemies because of the said Ndianaabasi Nana. While Okaba Aquaowo stealthily is feigning “Bestie” to Ndianabasi Nana’s innocent wife just to gain more access to him.
