The Teachers Speak: Impact of Inoyo Toro Foundation 12 Years On

NOAH CYRIL NOAH

Another beneficiary of the Inoyo Toro Foundation award is Mr. Noah Cyril Noah, a Biology teacher at the Community Secondary Primary School, Ikot Akpabio in Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state. He is a 2014 awardee and beneficiary of the 2016 grand mentor award.

Mr. Noah said that he received a text message inviting him to come for a screening test and he ended up winning the award.

Noting that he collected the cheque in utter disbelief that a foundation could appreciate teachers with such amount, until he cashed the money from the bank. Thus he reasoned that if a teacher can be remembered, then there is hope in the teaching profession and it encouraged him to put more effort, read more and impact on his students.

Mr. Noah who revealed that the award has impacted much on Akwa Ibom education sector, expressing surprise that a teacher could be remembered and given a place of pride in the country, said the money which was "very reasonable" was used to empower himself by buying text books to aid his teaching ability; assist some indigent students to get books and materials that aided their studies; and bought some teaching aids for the school.

He commended the Inoyo Toro Foundation for remembering teachers who have been long neglected and not only politicians, and also for the fairness in the selection process that exposed them to the world. Concluding, he said: "I can really say boldly, Inoyo Toro foundation thank you for remembering people like us, impacting my life, and helping me to be able to impact on the life of others".

"GAP, Inoyo and the Making of More Fisherman"

*...Akwa Ibomites Reacts*

By Ubong Akpan

Akwa Ibom people have reacted to an article that is trending on social media titled: "GAP, Inoyo and the Making of More Fisherman" written by one George Ukpongette, on the impact of the Graduate Assistant Program (GAP) an initiative of Mr. Udom Inoyo and sponsored by ExxonMobil on their lives.

In several comments across social media, they eulogies Mr. Inoyo for leading the initiative and thanked the company for such impactful programme which has seen many young Akwa Ibomites climbing to the ladder of success.

In separate comments on Facebook and WhatsApp groups, they thanked Mr. Inoyo for seeing through the programme and giving hope to graduates in the state. One of the social media users Mark Ekanem, who commented on the article wrote that: "Although I was in batch 7 phase 1, I never knew these details of the program. God bless all those instrumental to bringing this knowledge imparting program for us who didn't have connections nor knew people in power."

For Joe Ikang: "I am a full time beneficiary of this noble gesture, knowledge and financial-wise. Many gratitude to Pst. George Inyangete, not forgeting Mr Ubong Akpabio for their selfless services to humanity. I am ready to follow you Sir, any path you toe."

"I am so grateful and full of appreciation to the initiators of that program. I wonder what I would have become in life if I wasn't chosen for the program. The program prelate me for the challenges in life as a new graduate then and today, I am working in one of the most successful companies in Nigeria because of the forum that ExxonMobil created for us to excel, God bless Inoyo" says Maxwell Udoette.

While Aniekan Ukpong said: "I can attest to this laudable programme being a beneficiary myself. Kudo to those who made this a reality."

Osung Imo could not hold his emotions when he said: "if there is any program that has touched the foundation of youth empowerment in Akwa Ibom state, it is the GAP program which three of my relatives were beneficiaries. I never knew Inoyo had a hand in it. And hearing the lies people tell against him on social media today comforts the fact that only lazy youths detests hard work and integrity. Inoyo from what I saw on the video about his foundation has legacies that those who are bent on tarnishing his reputation, can never sweep away. I want to use this opportunity to thank Inoyo for the GAP initiative and urge him on to do whatever he necessary to salvage this state from those who have nothing to offer than throwing of money to jobless youths. We are solidly behind Inoyo."

GAP was a 3 months Instructor-Led Training and 3 month On-the-job development of graduate's skills through internship placement in reputable private and public sector organizations where over 450 graduates were trained and empowered.

Many of these graduates from both phases are now gainfully employed, while others were established in one business venture or the other sponsored by the Oil and Gas Industry Foundation.

UDOM INOYO - A GOLDFISH THAT HAS NO HIDING PLACE

By Emmanuel Paragon Mbong

Brandon Sanderson once said that the mark of a great man is one who knows when to set aside the important things in order to accomplish the vital ones and a good man does not spy around for the black spots in others, but presses unswervingly on towards his mark.

The name Udom Inoyo does not need any further introduction in the national and international map of the corporate world.

The Ikot Okoro born technocrat is indeed an active player in the oil and gas sector spanning over many decades and still counting.

He currently calls the shot as the Executive Vice Chairman of ExxonMobil, owners of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited.

Udom Inoyo is a good man who deeply feels the burden of the stones carried by others irrespective of being a victim of cheap blackmail.

One thing is certain and sure, the Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, has recorded several milestones in his chosen path of human endeavours. He has left some indelible footprints on the sands of time through his numerous achievements in human capacity building, community and manpower development.

He has paid his dues and is unarguably one of our very best from the Land of Promise to have passed through the mill by dint of hard work, commitment , sheer dedication to duties, to the top echelon of the society.

Despite some ballistic missiles being fired and hauled at this high profile political scientist and lawyer by some paid agents and enemies of progress, his towering image , instead of nosediving continues to loom larger over the horizon like a goldfish.

To some of the professional politicians whose mindset are set on continuously looting our resources , commonwealth and common patrimony, his sonorous name evokes fear and disdain because of his intimidating credentials and excellent track records of service to humanity. The fear of Udom Inoyo is certainly the beginning of wisdom.

Though he is yet to officially announce his triumphant entry into the murky waters of politics, his name has been a recurring decimal and also touted as one of the foremost contenders angling for his namesake's job in 2023 which he is also eminently qualified to take a shot at the plum job.

If a good man can't sleep after hurting people,
then he should learn much more to be a leader.

No man is good enough from whom we don’t learn anything negative and no man is bad enough from whom we don’t learn anything positive!

There is no hiding place for this man of excellence, integrity and distinction as well meaning Akwa Ibomites, both at home and in diaspora, are earnestly asking him to bring his wealth of experience to the political governance of the State in the nearest future.

The question now on the lips of people with good conscience is, Udom Inoyo, are ye he who is to come in 2023 or shall we continue the endless search for another of your ilk which is certainly rare to come by?

UDOM INOYO – A PROPHET HONOURED OUTSIDE HIS COMMUNITY (PART 2)

By Franklyn Isong

The Part One of this conversation has been very engaging and thought-provoking. I read all your comments and contributions therewith. I must commend you for all your contributions. You added to the discourse in no little way. Your comments have expanded the scope of the conversation. I have absolute respect for your fundamental rights to hold your individual opinion on any issue I bring to the front burner on any of my platforms for interaction. Education is about intellectual exchange, social interaction and information gathering and dissemination.

My responsibility as a commentator on contemporary issues include, to spot out issues of public interest, put them in the public domain and allow my readers to form opinions of theirs.

“And when they had come to the place called Calvary (the place of the skull) there they crucified him (referring to Jesus Christ), and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left,” Luke 23:33.

As a Bible scholar, I can assert that Jesus Christ, the son of God was arrested, tortured and crucified on the cross of Calvary, even when, the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate washed off his hands from his trial. The Jews crucified Jesus because of 'hate, jealousy and uninformed/erroneous perception' they (Jews) held of him (Jesus). Find time to read the full story of the crucifixion of Jesus in Matthew 27:1-54.

Moving forward, after my previous piece under reference, it is obvious that Mr. Inoyo is a victim of erroneous and uninformed perception which few Akwa Ibomites hold of him. For instance, most commentators on the said piece had referred me to Inoyo's activities and inter-personal relations with workers of the Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN). Inoyo works currently with MPN and got elevated to the position of the MPN Board Vice Chairman. It is truism that majority of the few who are shouting: “crucify Inoyo, crucify Inoyo” within the Akwa Ibom community are neither workers of MPN, never worked with the company, nor had any direct or indirect dealing(s) with Udom Inoyo or MPN! How did they form the negative perception of a man they never came in contact with or had any dealing(s) with, if not based on hearsay stories, which at best, could have been deliberately fabricated with malicious intention to mislead and misinform the gullible public?

Again, I run the risk of being accused of holding brief for Mr Inoyo, even when, I am not. But only doing my duty as a journalist and following through this conversation to its logical conclusion in order to establish just one fact, which is; “someone could just be hated, disliked and/or crucified based on hearsay stories, uninformed or erroneous perception of him/her.”

Nonetheless, in order to further deepen this conversation and to bring to the fore, the opinion and perception of workers of MPN on Udom Inoyo, I stumbled on a goodwill message sent to Udom Inoyo on his promotion to the position of vice chairman by the workers of MPN through its umbrella union, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) signed by its secretary, Comrade Kings Udoidua.

The message reads in part; “We congratulate you on the successful completion of your term as In-Country Human Resources Manager of Exxon Mobil Companies in Nigeria. We appreciate your contributions to national workforce development and industrial relations. Your gumption and grace to dexterously navigate the swiftly-mutating industry requirements while keeping an open mind even in the face of mountainous challenges and consistently delivering win-win outcomes set you apart. We will miss your legendary problem-solving skills and pragmatic engagements.

“We also applaud your determination to continue to serve the Company as Board Vice Chairman and External Relations Chief, providing the much-needed external collaboration crucial to the Upstream Synergy agenda. Your strides a

On Edidiong Udobia's Shameless, Malicious and Misdirected Spate of Brick attacks on Inoyo

By Idong Isong

There is no need to respond to Edidiong Udobia whose vision (in) 2020 is to misfire at the wrong direction each time he lacks money. His once refreshed journalistic pen is getting dry, perhaps starved of handouts and political patronage, hence he is bent on reoiling contacts to gain attention from people like Inoyo through dubious articles and statements on social media.

Seeing him from a distance, and reading some of his articles, he appears like a saint who wants nothing but genuine development for Akwa Ibom, his state of origin, but innocent Akwa Ibomites oblivious of his true character will never know that he is one of those guys that are actually looking at what will benefit them individually and not at the instance of the state, Mbom!

From his chat below, it is important that Akwa Ibom people know that Udobia is a journalist that works for his stomach and nothing but his stomach only.

Udobia should be bold enough to direct his attacks to Governor Udom Emmanuel who he has accused in his various communication with close friends and associates for being responsible for his plight (hunger) having worked for his reelection in the publicity committee in 2019, of which Inoyo has nothing to do with. Udobia just have to be bold, very bold and very very bold to fire directly, else, keep his balls between his legs and shut up forever.

"Me i dey even think say the guy get mind self".

Nonsense and "the reward I got for my work during the election"... Sorry I mean, nonsense and ingredient!

UDOM INOYO – A PROPHET HONOURED OUTSIDE HIS COMMUNITY (PART 1)

By Franklyn ISONG

"Jesus said unto them, 'A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house," Mark 6 vs 4.

In the past seven months, our missiles of destruction have been shifted to Barr. Udom Uko Inoyo. The current vice chairman of ExxonMobil, owners of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN) and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL) in Nigeria. He got appointed into the exalted seat on March 19, 2018. Until his elevation, Inoyo - an indigene of Ikot Okoro Ubium in Nsit Ubium local government area of Akwa Ibom State was the Executive Director and In-country Human Resources Manager for MPN and EEPNL. He joined MPN in 1989 (two years after Akwa Ibom state was created) and rose to the rank, after handling several human resources roles in Nigeria, United States of America (USA) and Belgium for the multinational oil giant.

It is only witches and wizards that I am told do eat their own sons/daughters. Akwa Ibom people are not witches and wizards. This practice of self-destruction is becoming more alarming by the day.

In other climes, national/international personalities are made, created or established by their people that is why we have the Aliko Dangotes, the Femi Otedolas, the Mike Adenugas, the Allen Onyemas, the Jim Ovias, the Tony Elumelus, and the Dantatas of this world amongst several others. Why are these people national/international figures? Are they not from States in Nigeria? Have there not been elections/politicking in their States? Why is Akwa Ibom different? I leave you to ponder on it - just like I do daily!

Some weeks ago, I was discussing with a longstanding friend in Abuja. We took time to assess our nation and the federating states. Like yours truly, my friend is apolitical. He is a diplomat who had served the United Nations for so many years travelling to so many countries in the course of his duties. I will not mention his name for the sake of his privacy. It was a private and friendly interaction not meant for the public consumption. But if I must bring up some of the issues to form the foundation of this piece, I must do it without mentioning the name of my diplomat friend.

It was a sad moment for me in Abuja, when an outsider, I mean, a non –Akwa Ibomite reminded me in very clear terms that “Akwa Ibom people do not have a leader. They do not groom leaders and do not honour the ones who have worked themselves to either international or national limelight.”
I tried unsuccessfully to puncture my friend’s statement as he further asked me to buttress my claims by mentioning the names of, at least, ten prominent personalities who are viewed or have the tall reputation of either international or national figures from Akwa Ibom State? Such a simple aptitude test for anyone to answer. But this mental exercise became so stressful for me to answer. Why? Because any name I struggled to mention, my diplomat friend had just one question for me, which is; “Is he/she respected and honoured by Akwa Ibom people?” I was dumbfounded. Ashamed to have come from Akwa Ibom because, I ran short of words! My friend, though hails from Ondo State, has the history of political evolution of Akwa Ibom and the 35 States of the federation including Abuja, at his fingertips. What a shame for Akwa Ibom people that we cannot boast of, at least, ten national figures not to talk of international?

I never knew, I would ever be confronted with such a conversation by an outsider, when I wrote an article titled; “ENGR. ITA AWAK AND AKWA IBOM SEVEN EVIL SPIRITS,” published by RadarPapers online via: http://radarpapers.ng/2017/03/09/engr-ita-awak-and-akwa-ibom-seven-evil-spirits/ on the March 9, 2017. Neither did I know a day like that would come when I wrote another article titled; “AKWA IBOMITES STOP DESTROYING YOUR NATIONAL HEROES,”

Politics / The Governor Akwa Ibom Needs In 2023 by actionnigga: 10:33am On Jan 08, 2020
By Ubong Etetor

Some may say it's too early in the day to write or talk about 2023. While those who think this way may not be wrong outright, it is however of great importance that we prepare the minds of our people towards what will certainly come.

A lot is being said about who should succeed Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2023. Many are saying that the governor should round off his eight years in office and leave the stage honourably without any attempt of producing his successor.

Others are of a different opinion altogether. According to those in this latter group, as governor, it is not out of place for Mr Emmanuel to have interest on who succeeds him in 2023. To these ones, a good leader deserves a good successor in order to keep the wheels of governance and development running on the right path.

Those who hold diverse opinions are in order given that they are all entitled to whatever stance they take. As free beings, they have the inalienable right to air out their views on issues of interest. No one should muzzle the voice of another in a democratic setting. One of the fine features of democracy is the freedom of choice, association and speech it affords citizens.

But as Governor Udom Emmanuel continues to deliver on his completion agenda, methinks it is important that he hands over the baton of leadership to someone who shares, if not all, but the fine qualities that have turned the state into a mini industry when he completes his two terms of eight years in 2023.

The state needs a good manager of resources; someone that thinks of the good of the generality of the people rather than one that will pursue sectional and primordial ends. Most importantly and without any attempt to mince words, Akwa Ibom deserves a God fearing governor that will, like Mr. Udom Emmanuel, place God at the centre of all his actions and engagements.

No state wishes to have a leader who places less emphasis on the things of God. Such a leader, of course, does not mean well for the people or the state considering that without God, no man, nation, can truly make any meaningful progress let alone a sustainable one.

In 2023, Akwa Ibom State must continue on the path that breeds development, prosperity anchored on the virtues of deep and sincere devotion to God. Handing the state over to a proven cultist will, of course, inevitably lead to retrogression that will plunge the state into a bottomless pit of stagnation.

It is of the essence, above everything else, that as we make projections and take positions on the 2023 sweepstakes, we must carefully and thoroughly screen those angling to succeed Governor Udom Emmanuel to be sure that they do not belong to deadly secret societies that will not have any positive impact on our state's march to greatness other than halt it.

Akwa Ibom deserves a leader who fears God, serves Him and clothes himself with no other god but the one and only God who made heaven and earth; the one that Governor Emmanuel has reverenced with unflinching devotion since coming onboard as governor of the state.

Having embarked on people-centred policies that have seen the youths rise to their faith of greatness and self-worth, it'll amount to several steps backward if the next man on whose shoulders the collective aspirations and hope for a better life of the people will rest is not in tune with godly virtues and values that Udom's administration has painstakingly wrought on the state.

Anybody known to flaunt antecedents that are at variance with the emerging new Akwa Ibom should not be allowed anywhere close to the Hilltop Mansion. The seat of power is a sacred stool that must not be desecrated by a man or men who are known cultists. A state that has since proscribed cultism cannot afford to hand the keys to government house to someone that will open the floodgates to cultists and cultism to make an unwanted comeback to our streets.

The state must continue on the path of peace and unity which Governor Udom Emmanuel has brought to bear. The era where kidnapping became a daily occurrence has since become history hence we cannot reawaken that dark era by making the costly mistake of allowing someone whose worldview is in conflict with these new ideals to assume the reins of power.

Akwa Ibom has become a destination of choice today. Industries have sprung up. Investors are streaming in. Steady power supply will soon be achieved. Healthcare has improved. The man on the driver's seat is focused, dedicated and committed to leaving behind enduring legacies that posterity will always cherish and be proud of.

The people must not allow those who wear deceptive robes to mislead and misguide them. We must strive to get it right come 2023. Let's shine our eyes and be ready to make an informed choice that will keep our state on the pathway to economic renaissance, ethnic tolerance and political maturity.

Let us rise and make the right decision that will bring about the right governor, the right policies, the right focus, the right objectives, the right energy and the right attitude to leading a people who have sworn to remain under the peaceful umbrella of the Most High God.
