According to a report by the Economic Intelligence Unit today, Lagos State has been ranked the second cheapest city in the world for expatriates. Lagos which fell 16 places to 132nd place on the world priciest cities index joins Kazakhstan’s Almaty at the bottom. The report says, “Although Nigeria has been attracting significant interest and investment in recent years, the fall in global oil prices has driven a collapse in the value of the Nigerian naira, which pushed down relative pricing, despite strong local inflation. The relative cost of living in Lagos has more than halved since 2008, which might signal renewed interest from foreign investors, with price levels so low by international standards“. The Worldwide Cost of Living 2017 report saw Asian cities take five of the top ten spots, thanks to a sustained recovery in the strength of the Japanese yen that propelled Tokyo and Osaka back into the top ten, alongside Singapore and Seoul. Singapore was ranked the most expensive city in the world for expatriates for the fourth consecutive year. Western Europe accounted for a further four cities, with stalwarts Zurich and Geneva in third and seventh position respectively. Paris, the only Eurozone city, came in eighth position and the Danish capital Copenhagen, which pegs its currency to the Euro, rounded off the top ten. New York was the lone North American representative, falling to ninth position owing to a slight weakening of the U.S. dollar, which also affected the position of other US cities. In spite of topping the ranking, “Singapore still offers relative value in some categories, especially compared with its regional peers,” the report said. source:http://www.pressnewsng.com.ng/2017/11/lagos-state-ranked-as-second-cheapest.html

really the devil is dealing with both the old and young marriages. mummy oniga of all actress has broken home too hmm. |
Veteran Nollywood actress, Rachael Oniga, recently had a chat with Olusola Ricketts of Punchng, about her failed marriage. On how she coped as a single mother of three, she said: “My first born, Olamide, was four years old when I left my marriage. . I had to put them all in boarding schools. That is one of the most painful things I have had to do. Whenever I talk about this, it always brings me close to tears. My children paid the price for something they knew nothing about. . The factor (her late husband married another woman) that led to the end of my marriage made me determined to prove to him (ex-husband) that I could stand without any man. . I was not ready to give any other man the chance to be a hindrance to my children and me. I also made up my mind that I would dedicate my life totally to my children. I toughened my heart and blocked every opportunity to go into any relationship. . I saw myself as equal to any man, regardless of how much money he might have. I didn’t want any man to treat my children badly. I was working for my money and I put my kids in good schools. So, what do I need a man for? . I felt all men just wanted was to see the beauty of a woman and walk away. With what my ex-husband did to me, you expect me to trust men again? Before we got separated, he was a good and ideal man. . But he married another woman and I moved on. But I miss the whole union thing, friendship and sharing things together. My advice to young ladies is to keep and fight for their marriages. . Perhaps, I was naïve; I never fought for what was mine, but I still thank God. He made many failed attempts at reconciliation. He knew the type of person I am; that when I say no, it is no. . Before death took him (ex-husband) away, he called many times. It was my mistake. I should have fought for my marriage. Any young lady must try her best and fight for her marriage. My decision at that time might not have been the best, but I still thank God. I have my regrets too as a human being.” source:http://www.pressnewsng.com.ng/2017/11/it-was-mistake-i-didnt-fight-for-my.html

That's bad of the dad! Every sinner has a future, now that he killed the poor boy he'll have to face the law, at the end he'll loose his freedom or even his life! That's so unfair, justice must be served! |
A 53-year-old dad Wendell Melton shot and killed his 14-year-old son Giovanni over his sexual orientation. "Giovanni was abused physically and mentally and spiritually for many, many years," said Sonja Jones, Giovanni's former foster mom. Over the phone, Jones spoke of the teen she loved as one of her own. . Jones says she was told by another family member that part of the argument that led to the deadly shooting was over Giovanni's sexual orientation. Jones says Wendell Melton had problems with it. . "He hated the fact that his son was gay," said Jones. "I'm sure that inside of his mind, he would rather have a dead son than a gay son." Court records show Wendell Melton worked for United Airlines. He once was a pilot. . Jones says Wendell threatened his son before. "I'm hearing his dad had caught him with his boyfriend before and pulled out a gun on him," said Jones. Giovanni was a student at Coronado High School. Jones says a beautiful life was taken away because of ignorance. "I hope they throw the book at him. I hope he never sees the light of day," said Jones. "I hope every day when he looks in the mirror, he sees his son's face." source:http://www.pressnewsng.com.ng/2017/11/dad-kills-his-14-yr-old-son-because-hes.html

thank God for arresting them. |
The Operatives of Rapid Response Squad of Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected human trafficker while trying to transport two teenage girls through Lagos to Abidjan in Ivory Coast for commercial sex work. . The suspect, Martha Edea, 30, a mother of two from Ogoja in Cross River State, was nabbed in Lagos after travelling with the young girls from Benin, Edo State. . Martha confessed to the police that she was trafficked to Ivory Coast by one Mariam who told her there were chances of securing a good job in the country but was later introduced to sex work where she slaved for months in paying back her custodian who brought her to Abidjan. . Martha said: “I worked for three months to pay Mariam N180,000 to balance her for my transportation into Ivory Coast and also for connecting me.” She added that Mariam after collecting the money travelled to Spain abandoning her as a sex worker. . The mother of two who left her children in the village with her mother couldn’t find a headway in the business after her connector had travelled to Spain. She further explained that she yielded to her friend’s advise to come back to Nigeria to recruit young girls for the business. . Martha however, came back to Nigeria and headed for Edo State where she was told that she will find young girls willing to travel out of the country to hustle as strumpets. . On her part, one of her victims, Francess Bamidele, a 19-year-old secondary school dropout, said she was elated to hear that prostitution is very lucrative in Abidjan so she opted in for it. . Deborah recruited Elo Etim, 18. Martha in her statement said, ‘I met with Elo’s mother and told her what her daughter was about to embark on in Abidjan and she agreed to it, she also prayed for her and wished her good luck.” . Elo confirmed that her mother was elated about the journey that she gave her some money and phone number to call when she got to Ivory coast. source:http://www.pressnewsng.com.ng/2017/11/trafficker-arrested-while-transporting.html

abolishment of bride price can't be possible in this continent we are in.bride price paying is equally part of our culture. |
A female lawyer in Zimbabwe, Priccilar Vengesai, has filed a lawsuit in their country's highest court, demanding the abolishment of bride price locally known as lobola. Priccilar in the court papers, described the payment of bride price as an outdated practice that reduces women to mere "properties". She believes that if the custom is maintained, the families of both the bride and groom should pay lobola in the interest of gender equality. Prisccilar, who is a divorcee and intends to marry once the court grants her wish, said I did not participate in the pegging of the lobola price. I was never given a chance to ask for the justification of the amounts which were paid. This whole scenario reduced me to a property whereby a price tag was put on me by my uncles and my husband paid. This demoralised me and automatically subjected me to my husband’s control since I would always feel that I was purchased. I belong to the Shona tribe and I intend to enter into marriage as soon as this matter is concluded. Under the Shona culture, lobola must be paid for a woman before the marriage is acceptable in the family and the society. In scenarios where lobola is not paid, parents and relatives of the bride would not allow the parties to legalise their marriage under the Marriage Act. The society for which lobola was envisaged no longer exists and the continued use of the practice in modern industrialised society exacerbates gender inequities without providing the social benefits traditionally associated with lobola. The pre-colonial community in which lobola originated cannot be reproduced in the current Zimbabwe. Greedy parents were now abusing the practice for unjustified enrichment. The original purpose and meaning of lobola has been fundamentally altered by the introduction of a cash economy in Zimbabwe, by urbanisation and by the breakthrough of agrarian communal ties. As a result, the original purposes of lobola have, in many cases, been subsumed by moths of greed and enrichment on the part of the brides’ families. In a nutshell, a woman is paid for simply because she is a woman and a husband pays for a wife because he is a man. This amounts to discrimination based on gender and sex,” she said. source:http://www.pressnewsng.com.ng/2017/11/divorced-female-lawyer-calls-for.html
