If you're interested in a career as a financial analyst, read on to find out what you can do to groom yourself for the job.

What Is a Financial Analyst?
A financial analyst researches macroeconomic and microeconomic conditions along with company fundamentals to make business, sector and industry recommendations. They also often recommend a course of action, such as to buy or sell a company's stock based upon its overall current and predicted strength. An analyst must be aware of current developments in the field in which he or she specializes as well as in preparing financial models to predict future economic conditions for any number of variables.

Background of Financial Analysts
If you are still an undergraduate student who is considering a career as a financial analyst, it is best to take courses in business, economics, accounting and math. Other majors that are looked upon favorably include computer sciences, biology, physics and even engineering. Many of the junior analysts hired by firms have these backgrounds, while MBA graduates are often hired as senior analysts right out of business school.

If you are not an MBA graduate student or an economics major as an undergraduate, you may want to consider studying for the Series 7 and Series 63 exams or participating in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) Program. Keep in mind that participating in these exams will require sponsorship from a FINRA member firm or a self-regulatory organization.

While the CFA exam is highly technical, the Series 7 and 63 exams are other ways to demonstrate a basic familiarity with investment terms and accounting practices. If you look at a sample CFA exam and it seems overwhelming, start with practicing for the Series 7 and 63 exams and then work your way up to the CFA exam or begin to interview for junior analyst positions after passing those Series exams or one of the other exams that are highly regarded by the financial services industry. Many institutions also have training programs for those candidates who show promise in the field.

Types of Analyst Positions
Financial analysts tend to specialize based on the type of institution they work for. Analysts are hired by banks, buy- and sell-side investment firms, insurance companies and investment banks. Of these specialties, three major categories of analysts are those that work for 'sell-side' investment firms, those that work for 'buy-side' investment firms and those that work for investment banks.

Within the investment industry, most analysts tend to work either for buy-side investment firms, where they research stocks for an in-house fund, or sell-side firms that write research reports for buy-side firms. Buy-side firms are investment houses that manage their own funds. In these companies, analysts research companies as they look for stocks to add to an investment fund. They also track the stocks that are in a fund's portfolio in order to determine when or if the fund's position in that stock should be sold.

At a sell-side firm, analysts evaluate and compare the quality of securities in a given sector or industry. Based on this analysis, the analysts then make reports with certain recommendations such as: buy, sell, strong buy, strong sell or hold. These recommendations carry a great deal of weight in the investment industry including analysts working within buy-side firms.

Even within these specialties, there are subspecialties such as analysts who specialize in equities and those that specialize in analyzing fixed-income instruments. Many analysts also specialize even further within a specific sector or industry. An analyst may specialize in energy or technology, for example.

Analysts in investment banking firms, however, differ from analysts in buy- and sell-side firms as they often play a role in determining whether or not certain deals are feasible based on the fundamentals of the companies involved in a deal. This type of analysis can include IPOs or mergers and acquisitions. Analysts assess current financial conditions as well as rely heavily on modeling and forecasting to make recommendations to senior partners as to whether or not a certain merger is appropriate for that investment bank's client or whether another client of the investment bank should invest venture capital in a particular company.

What to Expect on the Job
Financial analysts need to remain vigilant about gathering information on the macroeconomy as well as information about specific companies and the fundamental microeconomics of their balance sheets. In order to stay on top of financial news, analysts will need to do a lot of reading on their own time. Analysts tend to read publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times and The Economist as well as financial websites.

Being an analyst also often tends to involve a significant amount of travel. Some analysts travel to companies to get a first-hand look at company operations on the ground level. Analysts also frequently attend conferences with colleagues who share the same specialty as they do.

When in the office, analysts learn to be proficient with spreadsheets, relational databases and statistical and graphics packages in order to develop recommendations for senior management and to develop detailed presentations and financial reports that include forecasting, cost benefit analysis, trending and results analysis. Analysts also interpret financial transactions and must verify documents for their compliance with government regulations.

Opportunities for Advancement
As interoffice protocol goes, analysts interact with each other as colleagues while they tend to report to a portfolio manager or other senior in management. A junior analyst may work his or her way up to a senior analyst in a period of three to five years. For senior analysts who continue to look for career advancement, there is the potential to become a portfolio manager, a partner in an investment bank or senior management in a retail bank or an insurance company. Some analysts go on to become investment advisors or financial consultants.

Tips for Success
The most successful junior analysts are ones that develop proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, databases, PowerPoint presentations and learn other software applications. Most successful senior analysts, however, are those who not only put in long hours, but also develop interpersonal relationships with superiors and mentor other junior analysts. Analysts that are promoted also learn to develop communication and people skills by crafting written and oral presentations that impress senior management.

The Bottom Line
While a career as a financial analyst requires preparation and hard work, it also has the potential to deliver not just financial rewards but the genuine satisfaction that comes from being an integral part of the business landscape.

BISHOP Dr David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church Worldwide Inc. on Saturday opened a 20,000-seater church in Nairobi, said to the biggest sanctuary in East and Central Africa.

The ceremony, which was also attended by the newly-elected deputy president of Kenya, Hon. William Ruto and his wife, Rachel, was graced by thousands of believers from different parts of the world.

Bishop Odeyepo dedicated the sanctuary, accompanied by many local and international church leaders, as he predicted that great things would happen in Africa and in Kenya in the coming days.

On his part, the Kenyan deputy president said the dedication was a great thing and was God's doing.

Living Faith Church Worldwide Inc. a.k.a Winners Chapel International has a network of vibrant full gospel charismatic churches worldwide.

This verse of scriptures is a most graphic illustration of the mystery of transference of spirit.

Again it is written : “And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;… Be not high minded, but fear:…” Romans 11:17-21

The above further clarifies what happens when transference of spirit takes place. The beneficiary is spiritually grafted into the spirit upon the carrier thereby generating same effect!

To this end, following your encounters with the double portion of the Spirit that is upon God’s prophet set over this commission, expect the supernatural manifestation of the same in your life with undeniable proves this year.

As it is written; ”for your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.” Isaiah 61:7

President Obama has been criticised by Turkish lawmakers over a White House photograph showing him speaking on the phone with the prime minister of Turkey while wielding a baseball bat.

The odd image shows the president seated at his desk holding a bat autographed by baseball great Hank Aaron while talking with Prime Minister Recip Tayyip Erdogan about the crisis in Syria. Political figures in Turkey have interpreted the picture as vaguely menacing and branded it 'insulting'. 'The photo reveals from whom our prime minister receives orders to rule the country,' Metin Lutfi Baydar, a lawmaker with Turkey's main opposition party, said.

Some newspapers took a more light-hearted approach to the diplomatic snafu, with columnist Ahmet Hakan of Hurriyet writing: ‘We need to do something - retaliation seems to be the most reasonable method.’‘Our prime minister needs to hold something in his hand as he's calling Obama,’ he added, suggesting as possible candidates a slipper, a belt or a rolling pin.

But Erdogan dismissed the spat, calling Obama 'a friend who never falls short of respect or politeness'. When asked about possible hidden meanings in the photo, White House secretary Jay Carney said that the president was an avid baseball fan and long-time supporter of the Chicago White Sox. White House spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said in a brief written statement on Friday that her department had seen the commentary and speculation about the photo in the Turkish media.

Usain Bolt has won the men's 100m final at London 2012 in an Olympic record time of 9.63 seconds.
The Jamaican world record holder, 25, powered to victory ahead of compatriot Yohan Blake and American bronze medallist Justin Gatlin.

Bolt did not start well but surged away from Blake and Gatlin from the halfway stage to run the second-fastest time in history.
American Tyson Gay finished fourth at the Olympic Stadium.
Jamaican Asafa Powell pulled up during the race, finishing in 11.99secs, but the other seven runners broke 10 seconds, with four of the first five running personal bests.

Serena Williams of the United States dominates the womens' final against Russia's Maria Sharapov a, winning in straight sets 6-0 6-1 in just 63 minutes to win the gold medal at London 2012.

Williams dropped just 17 games all tournament and has won all of her 17 matches since losing to Virginie Razzano at the French Open on 29 May. It was the most comprehensive women's singles final win in Olympic history.

A government inquiry is under way after an 11-year-old schoolboy, Liam Corcoran, flew from one of the country’s busiest airports to Europe on his own without a passport, ticket or boarding pass.

Liam slipped away from his mother at a shopping centre three miles from Manchester Airport, before successfully catching flight LS791 to Rome after a series of blunders by staff. The schoolboy, from Newall Green, Wythenshawe, Manchester, passed through several security checkpoints before boarding the Jet2.com flight. The captain was only alerted to his extra passenger when holidaymakers raised concerns shortly into the two hour journey.

Liam's 1,500 mile "adventure" ended on Tuesday night when he returned to Britain unharmed, and escorted by staff, and was reunited with his worried family. Speaking yesterday, Liam said: “Getting on the plane was easier than doing my homework. I didn’t have anything on me and no one asked me for anything. They smiled at me when I went through.” He said he had just been looking for a lavatory and kept searching until he ended up on the plane.

He told The Sun: “I went to the toilet and sat there but I couldn’t get out. Then 'whoosh’, we were going up in the sky.”
His mother Mary, 29, said she thought her son had been abducted when he slipped away from her in a shop near the airport.
Police phoned her more than four hours after he disappeared to tell her “we have found your son, he’s in Rome”, she said.

I’m disgusted and I want answers.” Last night, three separate investigations were under way to establish how he was able to evade three separate security checkpoints. At least two airport staff and three airline workers have been suspended over the security breach. Justine Greening, the Transport Secretary, said: "I take any breach of security, very, very seriously,".

"So we are now investigating with Manchester Airport and, indeed the airline, to find out exactly what happened. "This is an unusual and serious breach and we are keen to find out what has gone on." A Department for Transport spokesman added: "We are reviewing urgently with the airport and relevant airline how this occurred and identifying any actions needed to prevent a repetition.” The incident comes as more than two million people arrive in Britain ahead of the Olympic Games, which open in London on Friday.

Liam’s father, Aaron Fort, 34, who is separated from Liam's mother and lives in Blackpool, said his son had “been a bit petrified by the enormity of it all”. “If he had got off the plane as easy as he got on. Lord knows what would have happened to him wandering round Rome airport,” he said. He said his son had been swimming earlier in the day and got into difficulties, which had caused him to panic. He said: "The lifeguard had to throw Liam a rope to get him out. That sort of incident would have worried him. He must have got changed and given his mother the slip and then walked from the baths in Wythenshawe to the airport. "He has never had a passport and never been abroad. When we all lived in Blackpool we would go down to the front and ride on a tram – that's about it." Neighbours said that Liam was “quite tall for his age”.
One said: “He's a nice lad and never causes any trouble in the street although it looks like he's a bit of a handful.”

Liam was reported missing to Greater Manchester Police at lunchtime on Tuesday. He is thought to have run away from his mother while she was shopping at Wythenshawe Civic Centre, about a mile from their home on Europe’s largest council estate. It is unclear whether he walked to the airport or caught a bus but when he arrived he passed through security in Terminal 1 without any problems. It is understood that Liam had followed a family when he got to the packed terminal and that security staff scanned him but failed to realise he was on his own despite having no boarding card.

He then went to one of the gates where passengers were boarding their flight and managed to get past another security check without showing a passport or a ticket. An airport spokesman said: "He was with a large group of other children, he appeared to be in a family group – for whatever reason he wasn't checked."

It was believed that after he boarded and took a seat, crew failed to carry out an accurate headcount to make sure that the number of passengers and boarding cards matched up. About 30 minutes into the flight, passengers became suspicious and alerted cabin crew. The captain was then informed and radioed back to Manchester, where police told his mother that he was safe and well but on a plane heading to Italy. The boy remained on board after landing at Rome Fiumicino Airport, and returned to Manchester on the same plane, escorted by staff, where he was met by his mother.

A Manchester Airport spokesman described it as an "extremely serious matter". "It is clear that documentation has not been checked correctly at security and the boarding gate," he said. "The boy went through full security screening so the safety of passengers and the aircraft was never compromised. It was our responsibility – we absolutely have to answer for that. "This was a young lad on an adventure."

An airline spokesman said that because the aircraft was connected to an airbridge a head count was not required. She added: "However head counts have immediately been put in place across each of our flights from all airports, including those where air bridges are in use. "We are reviewing all of our procedures in light of this incident and three members of staff involved have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

"Passengers can rest assured that this is an isolated incident and at no time was there any safety risk."

Background:
The one-child policy is the one-child limitation in the population control policy of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The Chinese government refers to it under the official translation of family planning policy. It officially restricts married, urban couples to having only one child, while allowing exemptions for several cases, including rural couples, ethnic minorities, and parents without any siblings themselves.

The Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau are completely exempt from the policy. Also exempt from this law are foreigners living in China.

This policy was introduced in 1978 and initially applied to first-born children from 1979. It was created by the Chinese government to alleviate social, economic, and environmental problems in China, and authorities make the claim that the policy has prevented between 250 and 300 million births from its implementation until 2000, and 400 million births from 1979 to 2011.

The first way to get CFA Curriculum is to buy it directly from the Institute. But beginning from June 08, those who register for the exam will get among other packages the study Curriculum. Another way is to buy it from those who had previously written the exams and are willing to sell their materials, but always better to get currently materials becos of changes in the subsequent editions. Also, you can get it from other organisations that conduct trainings for prospective candidates such as Schweser [Study notes] and Allen Resources. You can even get to download some of the past study notes free online on some websites.

Are you just planning to register for the forth coming December 07 exam or you've registered already? Am presently not in Lagos otherwise I would have loved to join the study group.
