Ijaws are the smallest minority in the south
And not only the smallest but the least educated , no different difference between ijaw and amaljiri Keep ranting aimlessly as the Ijaw nation keeps moving forward an Ijaw man has been President Dr Goodluck Jonathan, while your peoples highest achievement is to contest for pdp chairman and lose. fred06: It is astonishing the ideology and mind set some persons profess in their commentary.. some persons have brought out various cases decided by the Law Courts that the Ijaws don't have those lands they all edge to have in Edo State....I believe that in civilize societies where they are dispute concerning lands the place to go is the law Courts which the Binis went and won... if the Ijaws have a superior historical facts of the land in questions ans different reference materials from different writers both foreign and indeginious that would aid their case in Court....for them to have won the land.... Mind you to get lands you do not need violence it is only lawless n animals that use the barrel of the gun to claim lands... Even while we were small n being educated we knew the persons the white man .et on ground and the Kings who resisted them in their lands n territory... king Jaja of Opobo, the Oba of Benin, Nana of Itsekiris and others... With all due respect to the Ijaws I did not hear of one Ijaw King or Pere meeting the white man or resisting their occupation... these are facts....even when I was in the University... Nigeria People's n Culture being taught I did not here of one Pere resisting the British... so the issue of who is a prostitute in a tribe or Ogogoro drinker or who stays ontop of water does not come in issue here..we should face facts.... There are no court case that has given Ijaw land to binis, does even make sense in your head, there was only a land dispute between two individuals for a parcel of land which isn't gelegele-ijaw or other Ijaw kingdoms in Edo state so know your facts mr man, secondly history mentioned many Ijaw kings, King Jaja the Amanyanabo of Opobo was what, the Amanyanabo of Nembe was what ? Those red assed basterrds are NOT and NEVER will be a part of SW, Afonja once helped them fight against fulani where they were defeated and about to be wheeled away as slaves, but what we get is twisting the History and claiming Superiority over the Afonjas, even claiming our prestigious EKO, so we pushed em to that fhucking geographical area called Edo state.
I hate them with passion, they can run mouths and beat chests than the Igbos, there's always friction btwn a typical Afonja and a Bini, we never get along well- I prefer Igbo babes and abokki friends than those ashawo basterrds anyday.

OsamaB: AdaFonju, Something amazing about your write-ups since you registered on Nairaland on the 5th of December 2017 is that they are both about Edo state. Hence, your reason for joining nairaland is to clamor for land and discredit Benin kingdom.
Before now, Ijaws have been quiet settlers or land owners in Edo state until the governor and the Oba came out to propose a seaport at Gelegele. One thing i would say is that even if history is re-written, it is certain that a significant amount of true records of events would forever be lost because of the subjectivity of writers. For example, if you conduct an interview to inquire about your family from your oldest living relative, the best you will get is the person's perception of reality. Family histories are lost talkless of community and regional archives. Sadly, Nigerians don't document and we haven't still learned the disadvantages of not having a scribe present at historical events. It is not just the Ijaw matter. There has also been the argument that Bini people come from Yoruba land but the subjectivity behind such statements is should be taken with caution as a true representation of reality. The only certain reality is that we would all live this earth and should be concerned about living something tangible for generations to come irrespective of their ethnic group or beliefs.
I wish you the best with your clamor to re-write the past, but I employ you to consider the present and future instead.
Preye Osama Egbata You have said nothing in this write up and answering Preye wont even make me take my foot slightly of the pedal , as I and other well meaning Izon otu continue to drive towards an Ijaw nation devoid of lies and marginalization by u and your likes Read carefully All this is written by non ijaws or will u still deny the most accepted bini historian cited E. Alademomi Kenyo, who in his book, titled ‘The Origin and Title of Yoruba Rulers’ (N.D) Page 3, stated: ‘Up till time, the Oba (in Benin) and his people were pure Yoruba and did not understand the language of the aborigines, who usually salute themselves and the new people (the Bini) Adoo, Dolo.’ It is an indisputable fact that it is only the Ijaws that greet Adoo and Dolo in Nigeria. “here is a bini mans Dr J .U. Egharevba’s book titled, “The Short History of Benin’ (1968) to back our claims, we equally referred to Prof. Alan Ryder, a British national and former professor of history at University of Ibadan in his book, ‘Benin and the Europeans 1485-1897,’ Page 27, which states inter alia, ‘Whichever of the slave rivers the Portuguese frequented, the people they first met and traded with, would have belonged to Ijo (Ijaw) tribe, which at that time dominated the coastal belt of the swamp forest, extending inland to a depth of 30-40miles in the region.IT IS CLEAR THAT UGHOTON WAS THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN IJAW AND BINI: "In the meantime he (Consul James Phillips) sent a message forward to the Oba, Benin's king, that his present mission was to discuss trade and peace and demanding admission to the territory in defiance of Benin law explicitly forbidding his entry. Unfortunately for Phillips, some Itsekiri trading chiefs sent a message to the Benin king that 'the white man is bringing war'. On receiving the news the Benin king quickly summoned the city's high-ranking nobles for an emergency meeting, and during the discussions the Iyase, the commander in chief of the Benin Army argued that the British were planning a surprise attack and must be defeated. The Benin king however argued that the British should be allowed to enter the city so that it can be ascertained whether or not the visit was a friendly one. The Iyase ignored the king's views, and ordered the formation of a strike force that was commanded by the Ologbosere, a senior army commander, which was sent to Ughoton to destroy the invaders. On 4 January 1897, the Benin strike force composed mainly of border guards and servants of some chiefs caught Phillips' column totally unprepared at Ugbine village near Ughoton. Since Phillips was not expecting any opposition and was unaware that his operation was being perceived with alarm in Benin, the contingent's only weapons, consisting of the officers' pistols, were locked up in the head packs of the African porters.[7] Only two British officers survived the annihilation of Phillips' expedition,[8] which became known as the 'Benin Massacre'." NB: Please note very carefully that the Iyase (the Commander In Chief of the Bini Army) did not send his soldiers to Gelegelegbene or any other Ijaw Community but to Ughoton which is precisely a Bini Community and Ughoton till this day is the boundary between Ijaw and Bini which tells you that they know their boundary. PEOPLE AND DEMOGRAPHY The main ethnic groups in Edo State are: Edos, Afemais, Esans, Owans and Akoko Edos. Virtually all the groups traced their origin to Benin City hence the dialects of the groups vary with their distance from Benin City. Abagworo: Many of the groups in Bayelsa that originally claimed not to be Ijaw share a common history of descending from Bini. Some parts of riverine communitues in Rivers State like Degema speak Edoid language. Nobody is sure of prehistoric events but a lot of mystery remains about the true origin of Bini itself and all the ethnic groups that lay claim to Bini ancestry but with different language and culture. bright007: [s]use your brain and learn what the judgement means.
It means you have the right to live in Gelegele as a Nigerian (according to our constitution, any Nigerian can live or own land anywhere in Nigeria without intimidation) . Any Nigerian can live in gelegele and nobody except the govt has the right to kick you out . But when it comes authority on what happens in Gelegele, the state govt and the Oba of Benin shares that power. It is the same reason, you can't install a traditional ruler in Gelegele without the approval of the Edo state traditional council headed by the Oba of Benin. The state govt has recently decided to build a seaport there , all revenue that accrues from that seaport goes to the state govt purse. The oba of Benin will also receive royalties while your Pere watches on like a watch dog. The state govt can decide tomorrow to use gelegele for anything it wishes to and decide to relocate you settlers from there to anywhere he wishes. This is what I call real power not threat threat issued by your hide and seek militants and Internet keyboard warriors like yourself.[/s] Hahahaha bini people can lie sha, there is no judgment handing over Ijaw land in edo state to bini, thats all lies that bini people tell, the state government will not do anything in izon kiri without the permission of the great Pere of olodiama, if you're in doubt go and protest in gelegele-ijaw |

bright007: [s]It seems these ijaws e-warriors will rather win arguments through insults and baseless history than through the law courts.
The ijaws are settlers in Edo state and nothing is gonna change that fact. The issue of Gelegele has been judged three times in the law court and these tenants that call themselves ijaws were defeated on each occasion. Below is the summary of the case.
The matter went through the High Court of Justice and Federal Court of Appeal in Benin and the Supreme Court -in Lagos.
The Benins secured victory all the way. The following suit numbers are material evidences to buttress our claim to the land at Gelegele and environs
1. High Court of Justice, Benin Judgment delivered on the 22nd December 1978 by .Justice. Ekeruche J in Suit No. B/I44/1970.
2. Federal Court of Appeal judgment delivered on the 16th December1981 by Abdul Ganiy Olatunji· Agbaja and 2 others in Suit No. FCA/B/82/80.
3. Supreme Court unanimous Judgment delivered on the 19th ‘August 1983 by Muhamedu Lawai Uwais, former Chief Justice of the Federation and 4 others in Suit No. SC.131/1982"
To all the ijaw tenants in Edo state , you can continue crying on the internet as well as issuing threats, we rule Edo state and our command is your wish.[/s] Stop spreading falsehood theur isnt any court case giving any part of Izon kiri in Edo state to the bini, if there was why are Ijaws still on the land of their ancestors while binis are protesting in benin city |
