The Nigerian currency, the Naira, rose to 1140 on the Parallel market on Thursday, November 16 even as inflation soars to its highest record in two decades.

On Wednesday, the country’s currency maintained relative stability as it traded at N1120 against the Dollar on, the same rate quoted on Tuesday.

The development comes as the National Bureau of Statistics’ latest Consumer Price Index data puts the October inflation rate at 27.33 per cent from 26.72 per cent in September.

Nigerian wigmaker, Helen Williams has broken the Guinness World Record for the Longest Hand-made Wig in the world. 

A statement released by GWR says she created the world’s longest handmade wig measuring 351.28 metres (1,152 ft 5 in).

Helen is said to have spent 11 days and over two million naira (£2,031; $2,493) making the wig.

After sewing the underlay with wig-cap netting and black fabric attached to a bicycle helmet, she completed the wig using 1,000 bundles of hair, 12 cans of hair spray, 35 tubes of hair glue, and 6,250 hair clips.

“Finding the materials to make the longest wig was not an easy task. My experience as a wigmaker helped a lot.”

Helen has been working as a professional wigmaker for eight years, producing about 50 to 300 wigs per week.

“I have trained hundreds of students and have made thousands of wigs,” she revealed.

For the Senior School Certificate Examination, the West African Examinations Council declared on Monday that it would no longer be using the paper-and-pencil test paradigm and would instead be using a computer-based exam style.

This is stated in a statement that was made public on Monday and was signed by Moyosola Adesina, the acting head of WAEC’s Public Affairs Unit.

The announcement stated that the innovation would begin in February 2024 with the administration of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for independent applicants.

 “In line with global best practices, the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council wishes to inform the general public, and all its stakeholders, that it has concluded plans to migrate its WASSCE for Private Candidates Examination Diets from Paper and Pencil Test to Computer Based Examination,” the statement from the body partly read.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has been temporarily shut following a runway incursion involving an aircraft.

The incident involving the Boeing 733 with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BYQ occurred around 10:47am (Local Time) on 12th November, 2023. 

The Lagos-Abuja flight operated by Aerocontractors landed at the Airport and it was taxiing on Runway A4 when its nose wheel got stuck to the ground. 

However, there was no fatality or injury as passengers were safely disembarked from the aircraft while efforts are currently being made to remove the aircraft from the runway.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigation into the incident after it was notified.

NSIB Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr. James Odaudu, who confirmed the incident said there was no injury or fatality.

Nigeria's female Major-General, Aderonke Kale (Rtd) has passed on at the age of 84.

“We have fixed income products and variable income products. Variable income products are products with indeterminate prices because the price is determined by supply and demand each time they enter the market. However, when you invest in stocks, the price you pay for those stocks will rise or fall based on market forces.

“Investment returns on variable income products are adjusted for inflation. Because PFAs invest in securities, alternative investment assets such as infrastructure funds and private equity funds such as real estate investment trusts, the portfolio includes some investments to cover inflation,” he explained. . Jason Pass, 47, is on the run after shooting and killing a father and his stepson in a Brooklyn apartment corridor following a fight over noise.

American law enforcement officers are presently conducting a manhunt for the man identified as Jason Pass after he fled from the crime scene.

The horrifying moment the irate neighbor pulled out a gun and shot and killed the victims, identified as Bladimy Mathurin, 47, and his stepson Chinwai Mode, 27, was caught on camera by a security camera in the hallway.

The security footage seems to show Mathurin holding a pair of scissors to Pass’s neck at one point while his wife tries to pull him away.

A hero rat trained to detect landmines in Cambodia has been rewarded for its dedicated service.

The giant African rat named Magawa was on Friday, September 25, morning awarded a gold medal for its bravery, devotion to lifesaving and diligence on duty.

According to Independent UK, Magawa was formally presented with the miniature PDSA Gold Medal, which is the animal equivalent of the George Cross.

Magawa went through extensive training to enable it detect landmines.

Magawa, who goes by Hero Rat as well, becomes the first-ever rat to receive a PDSA Medal since the charity began honouring animals 77 years ago.
