ollowing an extensive intelligence operation, the Rivers State Police Command in the early hours of Friday 26th July, 2013 aborted a planned Robbery attack targeted at one of the leading commercial Banks in the State when a cache of weapons were recovered from three vehicles hidden at a Mechanic village in Ihugbo, along East-West Road, Ahoada, Rivers State.

The weapons recovered include:
i. Two (2) General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG) with five hundred and ninety three (593) rounds of GPMG ammunition;
ii. Eight ( AK–47 rifles with one thousand, six hundred and thirty five (1635) rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 57 magazines;
iii. One (1) G3 rifle with magazine;
iv. Two (2) dynamites with detonators and other explosives canes;
v. Two Gas cylinders with welding accessories
vi. One sledge hammer, one axe and
vii. Three (3) vehicles in which the weapons were concealed.

The three vehicles involved; One Volvo S40 car, One Mercedes-Benz Saloon car and One Nissan Pathfinder Jeep (all vehicle registration numbers withheld) have been impounded by the Police. Efforts to track down the criminals behind the aborted plan are being intensified as other incriminating exhibits linking the perpetrators to the weapons were also recovered at the scene by Police operatives.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni has commended the officers and men of the Rivers State Police Command for the impressive recovery. He enjoined all Police Commands/Formations to up their game particularly in the area of intelligence gathering towards providing adequate security for the citizenry. The Adamawa state Police command has smashed a 9-man syndicate of suspected armed robbers, which specialises in vehicle theft, leading to the recovery of 22 stolen vehicles in the state.

 Commissioner of Police, Geoffrey Okeke, made the disclosure during a press conference at  the Force Command in Yola.

  He appealed to residents whose cars were stolen to come forward to claim them with proof of ownership.

Okeke promised to bring to book other syndicate members who are atlarge saying that the Police Force has deployed strategies to trackdown the remaining syndicate members even as he urged the general public to cooperate with the Police Force to serve them better.

He also disclosed that 20 cars, including a Toyota Hilux and Keke Napep were recovered and are in police’s custody. Okeke

Okeke advised the public to be security conscious  as regards  lives, property and the environment.  “Some of the cars were recovered in Kano, Gombe and other parts of the country but they were stolen from Adamawa state,” the CP stated.

He warned the public to stop buying stolen properties and urged them to volunteer reliable information to the command to help rid the state of criminals.

One of the notorious car snatchers, Chinedu Okafor, who also runs a beer parlour at the Ribadu square of the state, confessed that he was introduced to the business by a friend who is now at large.

When asked why he got involved in such odious business, Okafor attributed his involvement in the crime to the hardship he suffered following the imposition of dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state.

Another notorious car snatcher, Mohammed Barau also corroborated Chinedu’s statement, saying that they were partners in crime who shared whatever accrued to them after each criminal operation.

American president has two lovely daughters and they are happy.

A 48 years old man(name with held)has allegedly killed his wife for not being able to give birth to a male child.

The deceased, 46, simply identified as Mama Feyi, was heavily pregnant when she was allegedly stabbed to death by the husband during an early morning dispute.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the alleged murderer who hails from Abusoro area in Akure, Ondo State, has since been arrested and is presently being detained at the Ala divisional police station.

Eye witness accounts say the suspect has been having a running battle with his deceased wife for over two years shortly after the woman gave birth to their fourth daughter.

Sources say trouble began a month ago before the brutal murder when the husband complained aloud that his deceased wife is incapable of bearing him a male child and the incident led to a fierce altercation between the couple.

Shocked neighbours expressed disbelief at the death of mama Feyi when one of their next door neighbour, Mr. Isijola, said he was awakened by loud arguments coming from their room very early in the morning.

“I ignored them as it is a norm for them to always argue and have altercations. I decided to ignore them at first but when the noise was getting unbearable, I stepped into their room only to find the lifeless body of the woman on the floor, lying in the pool of her blood. I saw the man holding a knife and he threatened to stab me if I don’t leave.

Isijola continued, “It was when I discovered that he may abscond that I alerted the police who immediately came to arrest him.”

Naratting the incident, daughter of the deceased, Feyisara, said, “It all started on Sunday after my mummy. had cooked rice. She asked me to go and collect money from my father to prepare stew and on getting to him, he started shouting. But he later gave me N500 which my mum refused to collect. They both argued and had a fight. I had to make a distress call to neighbours to settle the dispute”.

Accor ding to the daughter of the deceased, “the quarrel started at about 6am when my mum asked him to give her some money for her ante-natal but he refused. As part of efforts at strengthening the capacity of the Nigeria Police personnel at tackling terrorism and other contemporary security challenges in Nigeria, the US Department of State, yesterday, 23rd July, 2013 at the FHQ Abuja donated Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) remote control robots to the Nigeria Police Force. The robots are capable of carrying out safe detonation of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and can demobilize explosives-laden vehicles among others.

While demonstrating the capacity of the robots during a formal. presentation of the equipment to the IGP, a Nigeria Police. EOD robot technician stated that the device can locate and defuse suspicious and hazardous explosive items from remote places and is als o capable of firing “disrupters” and delivering counter IED charges that can demobilize and render an IED safe.
The IGP expressed his immense gratitude to the donor and promised to put the robots to effective use across the country. He enjoined other wealthy countries/individuals as well as corporate organizations to take a cue from this United States’ gesture and join hands in supporting the Police and other security agencies in the fight against crime, as the task of securing our country is a collective responsibility and not that of the Government alone.

While restating his resolve towards making Nigeria a safe and peaceful country, the IGP charged officers and men of the Force particularly those in EOD unit to take advantage of these equipment just donated and others recently acquired by the Force in delivering on their mandate of making Nigeria a crime and explosives-free nation

Meanwhile, the US Department of State, through the US Anti Terrorism Assistance (ATA) Programme, has successfully trained a number of Nigeria Police personnel attached to the Anti Bomb Unit of the Force in modern Bomb disposal techniques and Explosives investigation courses.

There was an incidence, think in 2006 or 2007 when a lady opened another monicker to post a thread that the handler of the first monicker is dead and people started posting their condolence, later to resurface with the first handle that she faked death to know how much people like her on nairaland.
The lady seemed to be banned and
since then a rule came out that before any death of any member is announced on nairaland, the admi
n must first of all be notified.

Today bieng 4th of july 2013, a police copral was rewarded with a house by the Eboyin state governor 4 foiling bank robery killing four of robers in year 2009 in Eboying state. During d presentation of the keys to the hous,e the Eboying state governor and four other governors were present, those governors includ the Nasarawa state governor,Niger state governor,the Jigawa state governor,and the Kaduna State governor.Who were co incidently around to greet the Nasarawa state governor over the slain police officers.
The police officer was also presented with a cheque of 1 million naira. More over, the Eboyin state governor present the wives of the slain police officer's with a truck full with bags of rice.As nairalander and an officer on duty during the visit,I say thank you to the good people of Eboyin state.
