Atiku Abubakar in Southern Kaduna today. #AtikuOrganizingForQction "Our visit to southern Kaduna today was memorable. One highlight was the numerous admirers we met on our way, so much so that we were slightly delayed for our engagements. At our stakeholders' engagements which included religious leaders, professional groups, social-cultural groups, and students, we were presented with various issues, including the absence of any federal establishment in Southern Kaduna. I gave my word that if elected President, every concern raised will be addressed, and none will be left unattended. - Atiku

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, was on Wednesday allegedly rushed off the stage at the party’s presidential rally in Minna due to poor health. It was gathered that Tinubu could not arrive in the Niger State capital in the morning for the rally as he had to attend to his health with specialist doctors rushed to attend to him on Tuesday, soon after he had made an appearance at the North West zone rally held at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna. He was advised to rest that Tuesday evening after the rally, thus delaying his arrival in Minna until Wednesday. He arrived at the venue of the rally, which was well underway in the afternoon in Minna. A source who revealed the development from Minna via telephone call further said that Tinubu was advised to avoid the Minna rally to take “a deserved rest” but his team insisted he must put up an appearance in order to cover up the development. However, when he was ushered to the stage to speak in a live telecast monitored by our correspondent, the former Lagos State Governor could only shout the party’s name several times in a slow and incoherent manner. “APC, APC, Niger! Nigeria, Nigeria! Sai Bago, Sai Bago, APC, APC!” Tinubu said on stage. NEW RESP “Sai Lolo, Sai lolo,” he continued, after which he busted into laughter. He kept shouting, “Sai Bago, sai jagaban”, a nickname he is known for as his voice kept diminishing. He however continued shouting, “God bless you, God bless Niger State, may God bless you,” and was led away from the podium without presenting his manifesto and what he will do if he wins the 2023 presidential election. The rally was thereafter cut short in a live beam monitored by this paper on the candidate’s television Station, TVC. Tinubu is believed to be having a running battle with some undisclosed illnesses. There have been several reports of the APC candidate being afflicted with Parkinson’s disease but he has kept mum on the development.

COMMUNIQUE OF THE MEETING OF NORTHERN LEADERS CONSULTATIVE FORUM HELD AT YAR’ADUA CENTER, ABUJA. DATED 2ND DECEMBER, 2022 PREAMBLE The Northern Leaders Consultative Forum, a body comprised of Muslim and Christian leaders across the 19 Northern States and FCT was set up on the 8th October, 2022 with the mandate to consult among all strata of people in Northern Nigeria with a view to identifying the political party to support for the 2023 presidential elections. This was necessitated by the rejection of the same faith Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC. ACTIONS The Forum set up a Technical Criteria Committee with the mandate to develop a framework and criteria for the assessment of the leading political parties and their presidential candidates and recommend the ticket that represents our religious, ethnic and geographical diversities, capable of bringing about peace, unity, cohesion and inclusiveness. The Committee has completed its assignment and presented its report to the Forum. The Forum has accordingly adopted the report and hereby issues the following communique: That the four leading political parties that were considered by the Technical Committee for the purpose of this assignment are: i. the All Progressives Congress (APC) ii. the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) iii. the Labour Party (LP) and iv. the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). DECISIONS I. The NNPP and the Labour Party a. That the presidential tickets of the NNPP and LP are inclusive, representing our religious diversity as a country populated by a dominant population of Muslims and Christians. b. It is however noted that the NNPP and LP have not yet unveiled their Strategic Policy Plan for Nigerians to interrogate. This is less than 3 months to the general elections. And so, it is safe to say that no one except the two parties know the direction in which they intend to take the country. Nigerians cannot go into an election blind folded, especially in view of the myriad of problems bedeviling the nation. b. The NNPP and LP do not have all round grassroot structures required of a political party seeking the highest office in the country. They do not have reasonable presence of its members in positions of governance at national, state and local government levels. The few if any, have only recently decamped to the parties. There seems to be a dearth of experienced hands within their parties to pilot the affairs of state. c. Based on INEC’s final list of candidates for the 2023 elections, the NNPP could not field in all the seats for the office of Governor and House of Representatives while LP could not field in all the candidates at the levels of Governor, National Assembly (Senate and House of representatives) and State Houses of Assembly. The NNPP and LP do not have the required structures to win the presidential election and even if they win, they cannot be able to smoothly run the government as they will not have the required parliamentary majority to successfully pilot the affairs of government. II. The All progressives Congress (APC) The APC as we all know has fielded the same faith (Muslim-Muslim) ticket which excludes a large demography of Christians who do not feel represented by the ticket. The APC presidential ticket does not promote inclusiveness, unity, religious harmony and cohesion. A large population of Muslims have also expressed reservations to this ticket and have called for fairness and inclusivity. Consequently, this ticket is outrightly rejected by the Forum and the Forum hereby calls on all lovers of democracy, peaceful coexistence, unity and religious harmony to reject the ticket in its entirety. III. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) a. That the PDP presidential ticket is representative of our religious diversity as a people. b. The presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar is the only candidate among the candidates of the four leading political parties that has the knowledge and experience of managing the country at the presidential level. This gives him the advantage to set the ball rolling from day one. c. That the PDP presidential candidate has a track record of working harmoniously with all classes of people across religious and ethnic divides. d. That the PDP presidential candidate is a well-known talent hunter who has demonstrated capacity to hunt highly experienced talents across different sectors and bring them into government. This country needs highly talented people at this critical time to pull the country out of the doldrums and bring it back to the path of stability, security and prosperity. RESOLUSIONS The Forum therefore adopts the PDP and the Atiku/Okowa Presidential ticket as the right ticket to support in the 2023 presidential elections, as it addresses all the concerns of inclusiveness, fairness and national cohesion. The Forum recommends for support the Atiku Abubakar/Ifeanyi okowa presidential ticket to all well-meaning Nigerians across the ethnic, sectional and religious diversities, in order to foster unity, peace, development and progress. About Boko haram "We have deployed the Nigerian military which used to be one of the best in the world. They have fought, you know, a number of the international arena and they have excelled and here we have deployed them with their might and everything and we just could not eliminate Boko Haram. So I am puzzled. So maybe when I get there, I WILL UNDERSTAND, but honestly, I cannot understand the Boko Haram phenomenon" - Atiku Abubakar @AtikuOrganizingForAction

The former Vice President who spoke at the PDP’s presidential rally in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, also said the APC did not build the major infrastructure in the state. He added that only “a single family has ruled the state for 23 years.” He said, “The Federal Government built the third mainland bridge, Agege Motor Road, and other road infrastructures in the state, the APC government is lying to you about developing Lagos.

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says his development agenda for job creation will target underprivileged youths and almajiri children. While explaining how his five-point development agenda will support the north, he said the high levels of unemployment and under-employment in Nigeria pose serious development challenges. He added that the increasingly large pool of youths who are unemployed and underemployed in urban areas are at risk of being entangled in various forms of violence and misconduct. “Creating jobs and economic opportunities for these people will be vital both for reducing the ease of recruitment for violent groups and reducing underlying grievances that feed conflicts,” he said. “Our development agenda includes the implementation of a robust job creation and entrepreneurship development programmes that will target the youth. It is designed to target specific population groups, that is, economically marginalised demographics, which are not served by the typical market systems. “In the northern states this will include the almajirai and other under-privileged youth who have had no opportunity to acquire western-style education. “Our job creation programme shall feature unique approaches to skills training. It will be a dual system focusing on both the informal apprenticeship system and the formal training system through ‘one-stop-shop’ styled community skills development centres (COSDECs) with a work experience learning component.

Former Speaker Yakubu Dogara has endorsed Atiku Abubakar for president, marking the latest fallout from the Muslim-Muslim ticket of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima. Mr Dogara, a member of Mr Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress, has been among the top voices against the APC’s failure to balance its ticket in line with Nigeria’s evenly split Muslim and Christian demography. Mr Dogara joined other members of the Forum of Christian and Muslim Political Leaders from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to adopt Mr Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They described him as a consensus candidate for the 2023 election at a meeting of leaders and delegates from all over the northern region, which included religious leaders, women and youth organisations that took the decision in Abuja on Friday at the Atiku Abubakar Hall of Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre. The forum adopted the report of the IRS technical committee led by a former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Umara Kumalia, and Nunge Mele, a senior lawyer. The northern Christian and Muslim leaders had on October 8 set up the committee to recommend a pan-Nigerian platform to adopt in the 2023 presidential election.

Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has said that if elected, his administration will set aside $10bn to create employment and boost small and medium-scale enterprises to help employment drive for youths and women in the country. The former Nigerian vice president also carpeted the ruling APC over the insecurity in the country, saying President Muhammadu Buhari and his ruling party have failed Nigerians. Atiku, citing Kwara State as an example, also bemoaned the state of infrastructure decay in the country, saying the state connects both south and north but bad roads have hindered its growth and development. Atiku said this at the PDP’s presidential campaign rally in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. Earlier, in his speech, Atiku’s running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, said he was happy with what he had seen in Kwara.

The same faith muslim-muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress, the Boko Haram, the Indigenous People of Biafra, and other groups have been identified as threats to the peaceful conduct of Nigeria's 2023 elections. This was stated in a report released by the former Prime Minister of Britain, Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, explaining why the security risks to the country's 2023 general elections should not be neglected. In recent times, insecurity has dominated discourse across the country, as terrorism, banditry and kidnapping heightened in the north-east, north-west and north-central; separatist violence and crude oil theft in the south-east and south-south; as well as cultism, armed robbery and sundry crimes in the south-west. According to the report, Nigeria has never had a violence-free election before, and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC)'s choice of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, both Muslims, as the party's presidential flag bearers for the election could pose an additional threat.

Mr Emmanuel, whom Atiku also defeated at the PDP presidential primary, insisted that the former vice president would win the 2023 presidential race, despite the party’s internal crisis. “I’m not boasting, but among those contesting today, there is no candidate with the same capacity, knowledge and understanding of the problem and what to do for Nigeria like Atiku. There is none, not even one. I’m not being biased at all; I’m giving you a very objective opinion. “So, that is why you see me following, because I love my country. I love my people. I want this country to get better, and even in terms of the assemblage of good people with genuine intentions, give it to Atiku; he can put a square peg in a square hole and get the result.”

The Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is not a novice in economic matters. He served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007, during which he presided over the nation’s Economic Management Team, he is also a notable businessman with his fingers in many pies. His 5-Point Development Agenda, which he christened, My Covenant With Nigerians, speaks to his understanding of both the challenges impeding the growth of the nation’s economy and the strategies that could spring the economy out of the miry clay. Atiku Abubakar hinges his economic plan on three prongs. The first is re-affirming the criticality of private-sector leadership and greater sector participation in development; the second is repositioning the public sector to focus on its core responsibility of facilitation; and finally enabling the appropriate legal and regulatory framework for rapid economic and social development. https://tribuneonlineng.com/2023-a-look-at-atikus-economic-agenda/
