helinues:Especially if Tinubu considers picking a new running mate from Kano state, like Aliko Dangote or Barau Jibrin. It would neutralize any negative impact that could arise from Kwankwaso. |
jchioma:Someone that was born on the 29th March definitely still has another birthday in March next year before the Inauguration Day on the 29th May, 2027. This will certainly not be his last birthday in office, not even next year |

fergie001:But where a chieftaincy event would affect his fundamental human right to vote and be voted for in an election recognized by the constitution, a Federal High Court has jurisdiction. The customary law which prevents him from contesting INEC elections, is a local law and any law that is inconsistent with the constitution is null and void to the extent of its inconsistency. |
gare:If Sharafadeen Alli truly wants to be governor in 2027, he should approach a Federal High Court to obtain a perpetual injunction to defer the chieftaincy title for now, because it’s not done in good faith and if not delayed, it would affect his traditional hierarchical seniority. Trying to combine both will likely cost him both. |
atobs4real:The intervention by Bola Ahmed Tinubu in resolving the OPL 245 dispute was never about determining the ownership structure of Malabu Oil and Gas, as suggested by Atiku Abubakar. Rather, it focused on resolving the long-standing deadlock over the sharing formula, licensing rights, and commercial framework that had stalled the asset’s development for decades. What the federal government addressed was how to unlock OPL 245 for national benefit, ending costly disputes, restoring investor confidence, and enabling production. Framing this resolution as “political theatrics” misses the point: this was a strategic move to shift from prolonged litigation to economic value for Nigeria. |
lordm:Countries like Germany and Spain avoided blanket subsidies and used targeted support instead. Better approach for Nigeria is to subsidize public transport, not fuel. FG should also Invest in alternatives (CNG, rail, mass transit) and as well as support the poor directly (cash transfers, tax relief) The bottom line is to protect the people, not petrol prices. |
Nigeria hired Siemens to fix its power system carefully and sustainably. Progress has been slow due to local political and institutional problems, not lack of technical skill A Chinese-style approach (e.g., PowerChina) would likely: Build faster. But increase debt and ignore deeper sector reforms. The real bottleneck is Nigeria’s governance system, not the choice of foreign contractor |
Just like Julian the Apostate miscalculated the consequences of his religious-political strategy, Donald Trump may also have underestimated Iran’s military capacity. What may have initially appeared to be a quick and manageable confrontation has proven far more complex, with rising tensions in the region now prompting America’s urgent calls for support from major powers such as China,France, etc to bring warships and help secure the vital Strait of Hormuz. |
While the current hardships faced by Nigerians are real, it is important to note that many of these challenges did not begin under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu but are long-standing structural issues. Since taking office, the government has begun major reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, exchange-rate harmonization, tax reforms, social investment, etc aimed at fixing these deep-rooted problems. Though difficult in the short term, these measures are intended to stabilize the economy and, over time, allow the benefits to gradually reach ordinary Nigerians. |
In line with the amended Electoral Act, this exercise is not restricted to new members alone, all existing members of every political party must revalidate and update their membership. Specifically, Section 77(2) requires political parties to maintain a comprehensive digital register of members, containing each member’s name, sex, date of birth, address, state, local government, ward, polling unit, NIN, and photograph, in both hard and soft copies. Therefore, it’s like data recapturing for existing members, any membership update that does not fully comply with these requirements would be ineffective and ultimately futile. |
yarimo:Earlier today, I had an interesting conversation with a friend who had always been strongly critical of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. To my surprise, he initiated the discussion and began highlighting what he now sees as the President’s achievements. This is someone I had previously struggled to convince about the necessity of Tinubu’s reforms, so hearing him speak that way was quite striking. I remarked during our conversation that if it took about twenty-five years for Lee Kuan Yew to transform Singapore into the success story it is today, then meaningful reforms in Nigeria will naturally take time as well. While continuity can help consolidate such reforms, I also believe it should not become a precedent that weakens democratic norms. |
Owaincouncil:Governor Bala Muhammed is a political godson of Goodluck Jonathan and that is where his loyalty belongs. Except GEJ gives him the approval, he won’t defect. |
President Tinubu is already a Muslim minority from Southern Nigeria. Pairing him with a Northern Christian, who is also a minority in the North, would create a ticket where both candidates represent minority blocs in their regions. Therefore, in view of the recent statement by the First Lady, Pastor Oluremi Tinubu, that Muslims outnumber Christians in Nigeria, the Muslim–Muslim ticket was largely a strategic political calculation, not simply a religious choice. |
gracias124:I think there is more to it than meets the eye. By virtue of her position then, as the Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, she could sit inside the VIP box, without being specially influenced. Anyway, she is a widow. |
chopnaira:Under Nigeria’s current presidential system, there is no regional executive government to control a regional police. With different political parties governing states within the same geopolitical zones, it would be unclear who commands or supervises such a force. Therefore, regional policing would require major constitutional restructuring to create regional authorities. |
EmmyMaestro:The real impact will depend on enforcement at state and local levels, where agbero networks are often deeply embedded in transport unions and political structures. |
While President Bola Tinubu is right that removing fuel subsidies was necessary and inevitable for Nigeria’s long-term economic stability, it is important to stress that what has truly helped cushion the resulting hardship is the operational impact of the Dangote Refinery. In as much as subsidy removal is desirable for fiscal sustainability, the real mitigation of severe economic pressure on Nigerians comes from local refining capacity, which reduces import dependence, eases forex strain, and helps stabilize fuel supply and prices. |
AWONEYAN:This should be Atiku’s duty, to take care of the safety, feeding and accommodation needs of stranded and frustrated Nigerians in Dubai. |
Femeto:The most straightforward way to verify the authenticity of names listed under the ADC is to extract the NINs from its digital register, copy them into the verification portal of the NIMC, and request confirmation of their validity. This process would help to distinguish genuine entries from questionable ones. The same treatment should be extended to the digital membership registers of other political parties, to avoid claims of victimisation. |
huptin:Regardless, a statement like this coming from even a dog in Obasanjo’s household is very significant. However, it’s true that rising reserves, a steadier exchange rate, and lower inflation boost confidence in the naira and protect purchasing power. Strong capital inflows, improved trade balances, and sound, predictable policies further support a stable and balanced foreign exchange market. |
APC should not underestimate its opponents ahead of the 2027 elections. Apparent disorganisation, delayed preparations, or internal challenges within rival parties can sometimes be deceitful, strategic or temporary. Elections in Nigeria have shown that alliances shift quickly, resources emerge unexpectedly, and last-minute mobilisation can reshape the landscape. Complacency is often more dangerous than visible opposition. APC should remain vigilant, strengthen its structures, and prepare thoroughly rather than assume any rival will sit out the race. |
benardtotti:It’s because of the new requirement of provision of NIN and photographs of registered members of each party. While APC was busy registering new members since last year, Peter Obi was pricing groundnuts, Atiku was dragging Makinde to hold secret meetings with IBB and Aregbesola their General Secretary, who is saddled with coordinating membership registration, was busy dancing about. What they want is the removal of the NIN clause, to enable them use COPY AND PASTE from membership registers of some old parties. It would not happen. It’s the masterstroke. That explains why strange names like Mike Tyson, Donald Trump, Leo Messi, etc are found in membership registers of Nigerian political parties and even INEC. |
ryloy:The real crux of the ADC’s frustration is the additional requirement that they must also provide the NIN numbers of their members, which makes compliance almost impossible. Their problem is not how to get digital registers because of their initial intention to use COPY AND PASTE from old membership registers. The real problem is that they must provide the NIN of their members. |
blamingthedevil:A 4.07% GDP growth in Q4 2025 (as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics) is significantly higher than Nigeria’s 2.12% annual population growth rate. Since GDP is growing faster than population, GDP per capita increases, meaning average income and living standards can improve. More economic activity increases tax revenues, enabling greater spending on infrastructure, healthcare, and education. |
seanfer:The ADC is in disarray. Less than a year to a major general election, they are yet to know who their members are. I remember last year, when they started their membership registration, they claimed that their registration portal crashed due to heavy traffic of multitude of interested Nigerians trying to join their party. Now that the new amendment requires NIN for membership registration, where is the multitude? |
Love800:Let me briefly explain : Nigeria sells oil to make money. Sometimes the pipes that carry the oil get broken or oil gets stolen. So Nigeria, for the first time built a big ship near Bonny that stores oil safely on the sea and helps send it to other countries more easily. This is the first indigenous initiative by NNPC to address the above mentioned challenges. |
Validated:ADC is leading, with wide margins, in most of the polling booths on social media. |
SadiqBabaSani:I sincerely applaud this. That is the essence of healthy rivalry, it’ll be to the overall benefit of the nation. |
Melagros:Situation rooms help Nigerian political parties monitor Election Day activities in real time, especially processes managed by INEC. They allow parties to track results, respond quickly to irregularities, coordinate legal and media strategies, and conduct parallel vote tabulation. In short, they serve as command centers that help parties protect their electoral interests and manage post-election decisions. |
press9jatv:Exactly, by this time of the day, being an Election Day, the fog is already clear and the emerging trend is obviously indicative of where the pendulum swings. |
