Once a party has submitted its membership register to INEC, any new entrant whose name is not on that list cannot lawfully participate in that party’s primary as a contestant. In practical terms, this shuts the door on the common practice of losing a primary in one party and then seeking refuge in another party’s nomination process at the last minute.

Falae/ Shinkafi ticket may no longer be possible because the window for defection is now closed until after the general elections. All membership registers have been submitted to INEC, before the deadline.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is bigger than Peter Obi politically and couldn’t have accepted to be his running mate. He is a contemporary of both Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, having served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in the third republic, two-term Governor of Kano State (1999–2003, 2011–2015), Minister of Defence, and Senator.
