Saturday
Alex got up from bed that morning feeling refreshed and excited; ‘’the Saturday he has being looking forward to was finally here’’ he thought. He knelt down and prayed to God to let his wishes for that day come to pass and shortly after he entered the bathroom……………….

Adeola was in the bathroom vomiting. She felt weak; it was the fourth time she has being throwing up in two days. She wanted to crawl back to bed after had her bath; but she remembered the promise she made to alex to bake a cake today; she made a promise and she had to fulfil it she thought.
‘’God grant me to strength to do this and remind Dr oni to call me immediately he his back from his trip tomorrow’’ she said loudly.
Minutes later she was on her way to the kitchen; she saw alex afar putting on the apron and the cap; his looks made her smiled. As she entered the kitchen; she noticed he has set the table and was ready to commence work.
‘’Good morning dear’’ alex said smiling at her
‘’Morning; it seems all is set’’ asked adeola
‘’Sure; here is your apron’’ said alex and she collected it from him
‘’Can we start’’ asked alex
‘’Chill be patient; are you going somewhere’’ asked adeola

She felt special hearing him say those words to her.

She moved closer to him and touched his hands;
‘’Alright; let do it like this; why don’t I instruct you on what to do while you do the baking’’ said adeola

‘’Yes; just grab me a chair; I will seat and instructs while you carry out the instructions’’ she said sounding funny

Minutes later; the cake was in the oven and adeola was leacturing him on how to bake other types of cake
‘’Some other time; you will teach me how to ice a cake’’ he said
‘’No problem; provided I will be paid for the services’’ she said smiling

‘’Who taught all this’’ asked alex
‘’Remember I leaved with my grandma; we had a neighbour then; his wife was into catering work and she bakes virtually every week’’. ‘’Anytime I perceived the small of cake in the oven; I sneak out of the house and I will seat there till she finish baking’’.
‘’Sometime she iced the cakes in my presence; she was newly married with no kids; so she took more interest in teaching me; that was how I fell in love with it. ‘’In see during my 200l and 300l second semester bake; I enrol into a catering school six months and that is how I became a professional baker’’.

‘’Right from when I was a kid; I have wished for a normal life and upbringing just like yours. Mine was academics and education; I could remember pleading to dad to permit me to come to Nigeria several times of which he always declined’’. ‘’I always wished to spend my holidays here; interact with my environment, the people living in it; spend time with you and your dad but he always refused telling me to face my academics instead’’.
‘’When I entered the university and I met Tony; I was happy and I said to myself; atlas I have a brother and shortly after we became friends not because we have similar character; as you must have noticed our characters are extremely different’’ said alex smiling and she laughed

Thursday morning
On their way to adetutu house; alex was glad they have both mended things and have resolved their differences. He remembered praying to God yesterday to always make them happy and any misunderstanding they might have later in life; to be settled immediately. He turned and smiled at her

As she got to her room; she threw herself on the bed and continued crying;

She stood up, picked her box and started packing her things. Minutes later she was done and ready to leave; she went to her father’s room. She saw him still inhaling the oxygen; she hated herself at that moment for causing him pain.
‘’Dad am sorry for what have done; I will take my leave now’’ she said. Adetutu heard her but pretended he didn’t. she closed the door quietly and headed to her car
As she drove the car; she was crying and sobbing.
She missed her mum and grandma; they would have been helpful in times like this she thought
She felt bad with the way she has being treating alex; he has being so nice and supportive of every action she took and she always ends up hurting his feelings. She never knew he cared so much about her dad to the extent of checking on him on daily basis which she never did.
Minutes later; she entered the compound and sat inside the car contemplating on what to do when she enters the house.

Gosh she looks so beautiful; he felt the urge of kissing her, confessing his feelings for her and telling her everything will be alright he thought

‘’You welcome; have you eaten’’ asked alex

Alex dished her food; he couldn’t help but watched her as she ate. He was amazed at the way she was eating; the adeola he knew wouldn’t have finished half of the plate of meal he served her

There was silence between them
‘’Maybe because we were in another country’’ said alex smiling and adeola smiled back. He knew her smile was fake; he could see from her eyes that she wasn’t happy and she hasn’t been for so long. He stretched his right hand and held her left hand
‘’Adeola I know you have been through a lot and I understand what you are going through; I never wanted to cause you any pain or hurt your feelings and if I have in anyway; am sorry’’. ‘’I need you to hear me out and not assume things or conclude issues; it pains me whenever you do that’’ he said staring at her eyes

‘’Can we go and see my dad tomorrow morning; around seven or eight’’ asked adeola

Wednesday morning
Adeola woke up that morning tired and weak; she needed to see Dr oni she thought. After having her bath; she decided she wasn’t going to the store; she needed rest. She picked her phone and dialled kemi number

‘’Iyawo how you dey’’ asked kemi
‘’Am not that strong’’ replied adeola
‘’It shows from your voice; what happened’’ asked kemi
‘’I guess its stress coupled with malaria’’ replied adeola
‘’Have you gone to see the doctor’’ asked kemi
‘’Not yet; i will call Dr oni later in the day’’ replied adeola
‘’Please do and if you are still scared of injection; will follow you there’’ said kemi laughing

She headed to the kitchen; her hunger for foods has increased and she was getting scared of adding weight.
As she was having her breakfast; her thought went to her father. She was still surprised at her father’s understanding of her spending time with him; she suspected alex must have informed him about her coming and alex have being visiting them every day ever since she arrived. She wondered what he always discussed with her father; she concluded his day to day visit was because she was there.

‘’Not that sir; have never being treated by another doctor and my body is use to your treatment; I won’t mind waiting for four days’’ said adeola

‘As she was on her way to her father’s room, she heard alex laughing; she grew annoyed; that was the same laughter she heard on Saturday when he was with the girl she thougt. As she entered the room, her eyes and alex locked up

Adeola woke up Monday morning angry and sad.
‘’Is this how frustrating twenty two months of staying in alex house be; with him robbing that slut on her face’’ she thought.
She recollected how both of them spent the whole Saturday together, how they left few minutes to seven and alex not coming back until minutes after ten at night. She concluded he spent his Sunday with her because she never saw him throughout yesterday.
‘’I will rather go back home than suffer humiliation from both of them’’ she said loudly.
She stood up from the bed and brought down one of her boxes and started packing some of her wears. Thank God he must have gone to work; that have saved her from explaining herself to him; she would send him message later in the day and if her dad questioned her coming; she would tell him she missed him and wants to spend few days with him. She concluded her plans and headed to the bathroom.
Few minutes later; she was all dressed and ready to leave; she drew the curtains and off the light. As she descended on the steps; she heard the sound of the door being opened and she knew who it was; the last person she wanted to see
‘’Are you travelling’’ asked alex confused to see her with a box
‘’No; am going to spend few days with my dad’’ adeola replied turning to face him but refusing to meet his graze
‘’What happened; is he alright’’ asked alex
‘’Yes, he his fine; just want to spend time with him’’ said adeola sounding angry. She was starting to get pissed with his questions
‘’So for how long; a week two weeks or months’’ asked alex

Adeola felt hurt with the way he raised his voice at her; he was no longer the gentle and sweet alex she knew. She wanted to cry but held back………………….

‘’They want us to start the project in a six weeks’ time; so we were told to prepare a budget and they will want us to submit the budget in person’’ said okoh
‘’He wants us to meet with other board members; so therefore you and I will be going there two weeks’ time’’ said okoh
‘’That is great dad; have you informed uncle’’ asked alex
‘’He was the first I called; he wasn’t that surprised we got it; he told me right from time that the contract was ours’’ said okoh smiling
‘’I have schedule a meeting by twelve to break the news to other departmental heads and I want each and every one of us to discuss on the budget and how we will go about the two projects’’ said okoh
‘’Dad am so happy’’ said alex smiling
‘’Am more than happy son; it looks as if you marry adeola, have brought lots of good lucks and success into this company’’ said okoh smiling

Two weeks later; alex was on site. It was his final day of supervising the project; he was glad and satisfied with the building and proud of himself and the workers. He was happy they finished the project within the short time given to them. He now understood adetutu statement

‘’Alright; the electrician and painters will commence work tomorrow and by Tuesday; they should be done’’ said alex
‘’Okay sir; we will be on our way now; it was awesome working with you; I look forward to more of this sir’’ said akin

Alex walked around the building; it was like a dream to him and surprised by what he and the workers came up with. He was relieved it was finally over; and he now has time for his friends and visit adetutu. He planned on resting at home tomorrow and in the evening club with his friends whom he haven’t seen for a month. He also planned on seeing adetutu on Sunday and discuss in details with him all his experiences on site. He heard the sound of a car horn and he was sure it was his father’s car

Adeola woke up few minutes after twelve; she was shocked at the time; maybe she truly needs rest as suggested by kemi the last time she came to her shop. She easily get tired, lazy to leave bed in the morning and her hunger for food have increased; this are the signs she feels when she has malaria she thought. As she headed to the bathroom, she hungered for semolina and peppered vegetable soup garnished with pomo and stock fish; She smiled at that thought.
Minutes later; she was dressed in a red bum short with a cream fitted top and headed down the stairs. She heard alex voice and another voice which sounded like a female voice she wanted to check but the hunger she was feeling needed to be attended to first she thought

Part 32
Its two weeks since alex last saw adeola. He was worried and confused because when he calls her line she wouldn’t pick his calls ‘’could he have done something wrong’’ he thought. He recollected how the weeks went without them seeing each other. When he is ready to leave for work; she is still asleep and when he comes back, she is already asleep. The contract the company is currently handling has being taking lots of his time; He leaves home very early in the morning and comes back home late at night. He is always on site because he is the supervisor. He was the one that came up with the design and the owner of the contract wants the building to be ready within five weeks. It was the first project his father has given him to supervise in other for him to hasten the workers to finish the project within the short time given to them. He doesn’t even have lunch breaks that allows him to visit adetutu but he always brief him on the phone. Even tony and his other friends were angry with him because he hasn’t seen them since two weeks. He was gradually getting used to the workers on site and even knows some of their names. He recollected adetutu telling him how fun and exciting site work is; but he is yet to be convinced he thought.
He needed to see adeola; he needed to be with her he thought. Today being Friday, he would release the workers by four pm to allow the Muslims among them to pray to God and enjoy there Friday with their families and it will also allow him to see adeola since they would still be on site Saturday and Sunday……………….

Adeola and her sales girls were busy sorting the new wears that just arrived from U.S. she was checking and admiring some of the baby wears she ordered for. She loves babies and can’t wait for to have hers, when she finally finds the right man she thought. The thought of segun came to her mind and she immediately erased it; she was done with him and she will never go back; despite all his calls and messages, apologising for his action and blaming it on the devil. Adeola couldn’t help but smiled at that statement of his; she knew he wanted financial help from her that was the reason for his apology. ‘’She must have been a fool to fall for him’’ she thought but now, she is smarter, wiser and ready to face life with the help of God.
The thought of alex ran through her mind; she was grateful to God because ever since the incident that occurred between them; both of them have not seen each other. Surprisingly, he comes home late at night and leaves early in the morning even during the weekends. Most times she would still be awake when he is back but when he knocks her door, she pretends to be asleep. Her dad informed her about the project he was handling the last time she went to see him.
‘’That contract couldn’t have come at a better time’’ she said loudly smiling
Although a part of her wanted to see him, hold him and melt at his touch. She could remember how her body melted when he touched her, even though she was drunk but all the memory of that day were in her head.
‘’Ronke’’ said adeola trying to focus her mind on another thing apart from alex

An hour and few minutes later, adeola was home; she was surprised to see alex car in the compound
‘’What is he doing at home; the project is five weeks; it’s just two weeks; why couldn’t he wait for her to get home first’’ these were the questions going through her mind and her heart beat increased. She calmed her nerves down and said a little prayer before heading to the entrance door
‘’Hey dear welcome’’ said alex
‘’Thanks’’ replied adeola
‘’How was your day’’ asked alex
‘’Fine’’ replied adeola sounding nervous

‘’You know what, I am tired and I need to freshen up; can we do this later’’ said adeola

‘’I need to talk to you this night; i might not have the chance to do this till next week’’ alex said
‘’It’s just few minute after seven and am sure you are still awake; please open the door’’ alex said knocking on the door again

‘’Thank you; should I come in or should we go to the sitting room to talk’’ asked alex. The looks on adeola face made him to retrace his steps back to the sitting room

‘’You know what alex; don’t let go there; let just forget it’’ said adeola standing up

Alex woke up around 4:30 am with a slight headache, he concluded it must have being due to the drinks he took yesterday. He turned and saw adeola sleeping beside him peacefully; he remembered all that happened yesterday. The day could have been the worst day of his existence but later turned out to be the happiest day which he would forever cherish. He stood up and headed to the bathroom and as the water splashed on his face, an idea about the design came to his mind.
‘’Wow’’ he said aloud.
Minutes later, he was all dressed and was ready to go to the office; he picked a piece of paper and wrote “I would be back shortly”…………….

9:16 am, adeola woke up with a severe headache. She noticed she didn’t sleep in her room, she raised the duvet covering her body and she discovered she was stack naked.
‘what is happening, what did she do yesterday” she thought
she saw her clothes and under wears on the chair with alex wears. She was feeling pains all over her body and manage to get out of bed. She picked her cloth but she was too tired to wear them, all she wanted was to have her bath.
‘’What if Alex is at home’’ She taught.
She picked up the duvet and wrapped it around her body. On getting to her room she headed straight to the bathroom, as the water splashed on her body, memories of yesterday began to run through her mind as tears roll down her cheeks.

‘’What have I done, I just lost my pride as a woman; why are all the worst things of life befallen me’’ she said loudly!

The memory of yesterday of segun sleeping with the girl flashed through her mind and she started sobbing

She raised her head and allowed the water to splash on her face, washing away the tears. She remembered telling alex to take her to his room and him asking her if she was sure. She recollected him wanting to stop after they were both naked on the bed and how she begged him to continue. . ‘’How stupid of her to sleep with a guy who is in love with another girl’’.
All she wanted was to get over the anger and pains she was feeling yesterday but now she just compounded it. She has useless herself and given her virginity to man that doesn’t love her.
She wondered where he went to, today being Saturday. Maybe to moji she thought and tears flowed down her cheeks.
How is she going to face him with this shameful act and they would both being seeing each other everyday she thought.

Alex was on his way to adetutu’s house, he was so excited and happy with the design he produced. He wanted to show it to adetutu, because he was convinced if he approves it; his father would do the same.
‘’It seems God is so happy with me yesterday and today’’ he thought loudly and smiled.
He recollected what happened between him and adeola yesterday. How beautiful, soft and tender her body was while they were making love; he never knew she was a virgin. He was going to cherish last night memory for the rest of his life and he would love her like never before and make her happy.
If not for the design, he had planned on kissing those soft lips of her as she wakes up and serve her breakfast. Immediately he is done in discussing and explaining the new design to adetutu; he is heading home to meet is wife and spend time with her.
Minutes later he was in adetutu compound and one of the maids approached him.

As they drove back home; adeola was deep in thought and tears were rolling down her cheeks. She remembered the day she met segun and the happy times they have spent together. In the early stage of their relationship; he was very sweet, caring and loving and that made her love him more.
‘’Ade are you okay’’ asked kemi who was driving the car
‘’Yes I am’’ replied adeola cleaning wiping the tears away with the face towel
‘’Am so sorry dear’’ said kemi
‘’Sorry for what; am supposed to be telling you that; not you’’ replied adeola giving kemi a fake smile
‘’I didn’t listen to all your warnings; instead I turned a deaf ear; now I can see the reality’’ said adeola

Shortly after; they arrived home
Adeola headed straight to the wine cellar in the house; sat on one of the chairs and poured herself a glass of alcoholic wine

Alex was in the office lost in his thought; he knew why his dad summoned him to his office. It was the design he and his crew produce for the contract they are bidding for and he was not impressed with what they produced. He has not been himself ever since he came back from Vegas. ‘’He was going to iron things out between them today; he can’t keep ignoring her and angry with her because it is affecting him at work’’ he thought. He heard his phone ring
‘’Am done with my calls; you can be on your way’’ said okoh

Alex knew his dad was going to talk to him; but he never knew it would be to that extent.

‘’The boss just called me in and he was totally not happy with the design we came up with and we almost lost the contract but we have being given additional one week to come up with a new design’’.
‘’Therefore, tomorrow being Saturday by ten am, we all will be in the office and until will come up with a much better one; we won’t be leaving here’’ said alex
‘’I believe we can come up with a better one if we can just put our all in it’’ said alex looking at all of them and they all agreed with him.
‘’Is there any suggestion’’ asked alex. He noticed his phone has being ringing;

He carried her in his hands and they both headed to his room; as he was about opening the door; he looked into her eyes

Talking about love and trust; she remembered segun who have refused to call her and apologised for his behaviour on Monday and when she couldn’t take the silence anymore; she summoned courage to call him yesterday. When he picked he greeted her casually; she told him of her coming today; but his response was that ‘’he wasn’t in Lagos, he travelled for a project’’.
‘’He was travelling out of the state and he didn’t even bother to inform her’’ she thought. She wondered when the entire project he has being investing in with her money will start yielding him profit and he will stop asking her for money she thought.
