Monica Osetobe Osagie, who was named earlier today by the Obafemi Awolowo University, as the the female voice in the viral Sex-For-Mark tape has denied being invited by the Committee set up by the Obafemi Awolowo University. In a telephone conversation with an online medium, Osetobe, said she was never contacted by the school officials. According to her, “The management didn’t contact me. If they did, i would have honour them”. Recall the Obafemi Awolowo University had on Thursday morning, released statement claiming, the female voice owner of the Sex-For-Mark conversation has been identified, as Monica Osetobe, who was contacted, but failed to show up. The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has received and considered the interim report of the Committee set up to investigate the allegation of sexual harassment revealed in a leaked audio recording. In the interim report submitted to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, Professor Richard I. Akindele, of the Department of Management and Accounting, is now established to be the lecturer in the controversial “marks for sex” audio recording. The female voice has also been identified as that of Miss Monica Osetobe OSAGIE, a Postgraduate Student on the Master of Business Administration Regular programme. Although the Investigative Committee had invited both Professor Richard I. Akindele and Miss Osagie, only Professor Akindele had appeared before the Committee, while Miss Osagie is yet to appear or make any representation. The report indicated that many other witnesses appeared before the Committee and gave useful evidence. The University is making efforts to ensure that Miss Osagie appears before the investigative committee so that it can hear her side of the case and promptly submit its final report. The Committee observed that a prima facie case of inappropriate relationship with the female student had been established against Professor Richard I. Akindele. The Vice- Chancellor, having carefully and dispassionately considered the report, also came to the conclusion that a prima facie case of serious misconduct had been established. Having regard to the gravity of the offence for which Professor Richard I. Akindele is found to be prima facie liable, the Vice- Chancellor, in line with the Code of Conduct for the University Community and acting under all the laws and regulations of the University enabling him in that regard, has directed that Professor Richard I. Akindele be suspended forthwith from the University, pending the final determination of the disciplinary case against him. While Reading The Nations , I Learnt that Under the provisions of the relevant Statute of the University, an academic staff can only be dismissed from service or have his or her appointment terminated only when the matter on which consideration is being given has been investigated by a Joint Council and Senate Committee, and the staff has appeared before the committee with his or her counsel, if so desired. This procedure is the minimum requirement of the law and regulations of the University. It should therefore be noted that the suspension of Professor Richard Akindele is on the basis of the findings of the Investigative Committee that he is prima facie liable, and this decision will abide, pending the final determination of the case by the Council of the University. We will like to reiterate that OAU will continue to do everything legally and morally acceptable in pursuance of its avowed commitment to zero tolerance for sexual harassment, intimidation and, or coercion.

The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Thursday said Monica Osagie was the student involved in a sex-for-marks scandal, that has sorely questioned the morality of university dons, in the training of young Nigerians. Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), said Monica Osetobe Osagie was studying for a Masters in Business Administration. He also announced the suspension of Prof. Richard Akindele, the don involved in the salacious scandal. Eyitope Ogunbodede Ogunbodede’s action followed the submission of the interim report of the committee set up to investigate the allegation of sexual harassment revealed in audio recording. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a recorded audio conversation of the don demanding for sex to increase the marks of a female undergraduate had gone viral. “The committee observed that a prima facie case of inappropriate relationship with the female student had been established against Professor Richard I. Akindele”. The Vice Chancellor said that though the investigative committee invited both Akindele and Osagie, only Akindele appeared before the committee. “The report indicated that many other witnesses appeared before the committee and gave useful evidence. “The university is making efforts to ensure that Miss Osagie appears before the investigative committee so that it can hear her side of the case and promptly submit its final report,’’ he said. Explaining why the lecturer was yet to be sacked, the Vice Chancellor said that the provisions of the relevant statute of the university must be followed. “Under the provisions of the relevant statute of the university, an academic staff can only be dismissed from service or have his or her appointment terminated only when the matter on which consideration is being given has been investigated by a Joint Council and Senate Committee; “Also the staff has appeared before the committee with his or her counsel, if so desired. “This procedure is the minimum requirement of the law and regulations of the university. “It should therefore be noted that the suspension of Professor Richard I. The investigative panel set up by the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on the "sex for mark" scandal involving one of the academic staff of the university, Professor Richard Akindele, has indicted him and recommended him for immediate suspension. Daily Trust learnt that Professor Akindele appeared before the panel but the female student involved in the matter failed to show up. Professor Akindele became the talk of the town when the recording of a conversation between him and a female student in which he was demanding for five sessions of sex in return for pushing up the student's grade emerged. Daily Trust learnt from a reliable source that the report of the panel was not in favour of the professor and that the committee has submitted it's reports to the management of the university. The source said "the committee set up by the management of OAU to investigate Professor Akindele sex scandal has submitted its report. The committee indicted him and recommended him for immediate suspension. That is the preliminary findings anyway. The committee still want to meet the student that was involved. Once the lady appears, the committee will recommend appropriate sanction."

He said, “For now, the Prof. has finished his sabbatical, but he has some accumulated leave. It is only his head of department that can say categorically if he has been coming to the office or not. “I don’t know if he has gone into hiding because he is not a criminal. We are still investigating the allegations levelled against him. He has not been convicted and he is not before any court of competent jurisdiction. “We have set machinery in motion to identify the characters in the audio tape. Obafemi Awolowo University is the best ICT university in Nigeria and we have the apparatus to determine the veracity or otherwise of the audio tape. “If any student comes out to tell the university that certain things happened to them, the university will investigate it. “As a university, we don’t rely on speculations, neither do we dwell on rumours. “But if we receive a formal complaint from anybody, either student or worker, that has to do with harassment–whether sexual, political, social or religious–we will take it up . But there must be a complaint
