Politics › Re: Things To Know About Local Government Election Conducted By Gboyega Oyetola by adekolaelect(m): 5:17pm On Feb 22, 2025 |
chiefolododo: The local government election conducted by former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola took place on October 15, 2022, about a month before he left office on November 27, 2022. The election was organized by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) under Oyetola's administration.
Key Highlights of the Election:
1. Election Format:
The election was conducted using a parliamentary system, meaning chairmen were elected by councilors rather than through a direct vote.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) was the only party that participated in the election, as other parties boycotted it.
2. Legal Controversy & Opposition:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties challenged the election's legality, arguing it did not follow due process.
The Osun PDP labeled the election a "sham" and took the case to court.
3. Court Ruling & Annulment:
On November 25, 2022, Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court in Osogbo declared the election null and void, ruling that it was conducted in violation of the Electoral Act 2022.
The court ordered all APC-elected local government officials to vacate office immediately.
This ruling came just two days before Oyetola handed over to Governor Ademola Adeleke (PDP).
4. Aftermath:
Governor Adeleke complied with the court order and sacked the newly elected APC local government officials.
The PDP government accused Oyetola of trying to impose APC loyalists at the local government level before leaving office.
This election remains a controversial issue in Osun State politics, as it was seen as an attempt by Oyetola to retain political influence despite losing the July 16, 2022 governorship election to Ademola Adeleke.
A yes or no election is null and void Who conducts election like this ? If other political parties boycotted the kangaroo election following court order, how can an appeal court uphold illegality?
This is a rape on our democracy. Why is Oyetola making the state ungovernable for Adeleke just because he is close to Tinubu? Did APC appeal the geudgement of that hight court or not? If appealed what does the appeal court said on the mater? |

Ore Mi, calm down Abeg Adeleke should have calmdown.his reelection may be sure if he handle things with care .there is court judgements that reinstate those APC local member which can never be the end of his government if he perform very well in this state like he is doing. But he also need to adjust his style of family's dominant government in osun in other not to create more enemies for his re-election BCS governance ,politics and his re-election doesn't end with his family . |

Bwanasaraw: Na wah o.
After Gboyega Oyetola lost Governorship election to Ademola Adeleke, he shouldn't have hurriedly conducted Local Government election like class room prefect election.
Oyetola just hurriedly plant his boys as Chairmen so he can destabilize the incoming Governor.
If I am Adeleke I won't accept it too. Adeleke would have managed those elected people in the first place instead of giving himself political down fall near the time to start his second time preparation. His advisers lack wisdom . Aregbe was the governor where all offices in Osun was occupied with PDP and he managed them till he had stable governance to appoint his men in to those offices but they made Adeleke to believed executive pronouncement can solve all problems interm of governance. |

Politics › Re: Rivers Supreme Court Crisis: Costly Mistake Of The Lawyers For The 27 Lawmakers by adekolaelect(m): 7:16am On Feb 19, 2025 |
SenatorCharles1: In a significant legal miscalculation, the lawyers representing the defected 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly inadvertently led their clients to forfeit a crucial opportunity to solidify their status as the authentic members and speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This unfortunate turn of events unfolded during a critical session at the Supreme Court, where the governor's legal team had sought to withdraw only a portion of the appeal concerning the re-presentation of the 2024 budget as it had become an academic exercise since the lifespan of the 2024 had expired.
The appeal at the Supreme Court contained several matters, but the legal counsel for the 27 lawmakers, in a misguided move, urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the entire appeal rather than selectively addressing the budget-related issue.
This strategy proved detrimental, as it effectively left the Supreme Court with no option but to dismiss the entire case without making any specific order(s) as touching the meat of the case.
Had the lawyers opted for a more strategic approach, the Supreme Court could have dismissed the appeal concerning the representation of the 2024 budget while allowing the other matters to be heard. This course of action would have opened the door for the court to affirm the legitimacy of the 27 lawmakers, potentially validating their positions and declaring them as the authentic members and speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The misstep of the legal counsel have not only cost the lawmakers a vital opportunity but have also ... Stories from the old time Polilical jobar child. |
